Today's Verse : Philippians 2:5-6

VERSE:
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who,
being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God
something to be grasped...
-- Philippians 2:5-6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+2:5-6

THOUGHT:
What a glorious thought! What a lofty aspiration! What an
incredible challenge! I am to have the same attitude as Jesus had.
It's almost unthinkable. But just almost! You see, God calls us to
this glorious, lofty, and unthinkable height because he calls us
his children.

PRAYER:
Almighty and Eternal Father, thank you for your unfathomable
grace displayed in Jesus. Help his attitude of service, obedience,
and sacrifice to pervade my soul and to influence my daily life. In
the name of Jesus, Lord of lords I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Gehazi One

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Gehazi One
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
"What can be done for her?" Elisha asked. Gehazi said, "Well, she has no son and her husband is old." 2 Kings 4:14 NIV

The story of Naaman is a lesser-known Bible story. While some are familiar with the story of Naaman, there is another character in the story that I believe many of us can identify. His name is Gehazi. He was a servant of the great prophet Elisha.

When we first meet Gehazi, he is talking to Elisha about the woman who had housed Elisha in her home. Elisha called upon God on behalf of the woman, and God blessed her with a son, having not been able to conceive. This same son dies a few years later, and Elisha sends Gehazi to help the boy. When Gehazi cannot, Elisha goes to the dead boy and brings him back to life.

I wonder, as I read this introductory verse about Gehazi, what was going through his mind when he first answered Elisha. Elisha had asked how they could help the woman, and Gehazi tells Elisha that she has no son and her hu sband is old. Was he essentially saying, Well, I dont think there is anything you can do for her. Her greatest desire is a son, and she cant have one.? Is that what he was saying?

Is that what you might have said? Would you trust that God could bring a child through an old barren woman with an even older husband? Doesnt make much sense, does it? I have often wondered if God used this frequent Biblical miracle, giving birth to barren women, because we are already so fascinated with the miracle of newborn life! To witness the birth of my son was one of the greatest wonders in my life. Those tiny hands and tiny feet, perfectly formed, caused me to stop in awe of my Creator!

I know of several couples desperately trying to have children now, before their days of childbearing are over. We see the birth process as having its end after a woman has stopped menstruating, dont we? Several times in the Bible God said no to the laws of nature and brought forth a ch ild under abnormal conditions! And, we stand in awe!

May I ask you something? Are you looking for God to do something which seems impossible to the rational mind? Are you in need of a God-sized miracle? Is there a heart that only God could change? A financial burden only God could reverse? A health problem only God could cure? Do you see the God you serve as being able to meet that need? Do you believe that He can?

Im not sure Gehazi trusted God enough to see the woman pregnant. Elisha did! Will you and I trust God that much?

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Conviction, by Phil Ware

Today* was one of those incredibly busy and wild days. I spent much of
the afternoon trying to track down folks who were in and out of the
hospital and whose rooms and floors had been switched. I enjoy this
part of ministry. So much of what I do is Internet or big church stuff,
that getting personal, touch-time hospital ministry with people is
restorative. However, I hadn't allowed for enough time for all the
moving around and tracking folks down, so I was running nearly an hour
late on my tight schedule.

To save time, I ran by the post office to pick up the Heartlight snail
mail while I was in the area. When I opened the box, there were two
yellow claim forms for packages among the envelopes. I had no idea what
was in the packages, but there was no line at the window — a miracle of
sorts in the world of public post office boxes. So I turned in my two
claim forms, picked up my packages, and hopped in the ol' Tahoe.

Now sensibility nudged me to leave the packages unopened until I took
them to the office. But, I'm a curious type and I couldn't resist the
urge to discover what these two unexpected packages might bring!
Shortly after opening them, I immediately pulled into the car wash
across the street to gather my composure -- I hadn't planned to get my
car washed, but it would help kill time. I was in no shape to return
the office. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I looked at these two
packages.

The contents of the first envelope tugged at my heart as soon as I
opened it. Five Compassion sponsor packets for kids in Uganda. The
pictures were precious. I knew they had probably shared their clothes
and shoes with others getting their pictures made the same day. They
were dressed, pressed, and tidy hoping against hope that someone,
anyone, might be their sponsor. It didn't matter to them if the clothes
didn't quite fit or the shoes belonged to someone much older and
bigger. My eyes moistened as a I thought about the upcoming trip I
would take with 15 other bloggers with Compassion to Uganda. I was
cheered yesterday by the news that I would get to meet Doreen, the
little girl we sponsor. Now my heart ached with the hope that we could
find the 500 sponsors we have as a goal for our trip, and especially
find five sponsors for these children whose faces captured my heart.

Then I opened the second envelope. I read the first part of the
Mother's note attached to the book that was sent for me to preview for
Heartlight. Then I noticed the cheery, inviting face of a college
student on the cover. The title was simple: Melissa's Prayer Journal.
The second part of the title was incongruous and a bit jarring: "The
Power of Prayer in the Face of Cancer." As I thumbed through this book,
I discovered copies of Melissa's own handwriting and pictures of her
life as a young woman full of joy and life. This college student was
about the age as my own daughter. I was intrigued to follow a young
woman's faith as she struggled and overcame cancer at such a young age.
I was not prepared for the reality: Melissa died after facing her
battle with cancer after a little less than two years. I was stunned
and shaken.

Emotions engulfed me. I had to get a grip. Too much flowing through my
heart at once and not enough of whatever it is that carries emotions to
release them appropriately. I scoured and devoured the book. Melissa's
journal entries were suddenly electrified with a different intensity. I
was laughing, crying, and flipping pages at the same time. I gathered
in the images of Melissa's mom and sister and wondered how their hearts
could not have burst with grief.

Then the tidal wave hit. In my world that values pretty people and
heroic efforts, Melissa's story is a gripper. Powerful and moving and
faith-inspiring, Melissa's words of faith would challenge any of us of
any age facing such a hard battle. But underneath it all, I could hear
this tiny voice beckoning me to put the book down and look at again at
those little children from Uganda.

In my world, Melissa's story has a tragic power touched with grace. I
am thankful for it and I will recommend this book again and again. But
to most in my culture, the other pictures are just a bunch more sad and
unfortunate kids from Africa. You listen to the talk shows and you
realize that the general public is tired of what they see as the same
ol' story. Hungry for a new angle, the media-drenched perception about
the needs of Africa are quickly becoming old news. We are quickly
becoming desensitized and finding ways to rationalize away our
responsibility to be involved.

But what is the greater tragedy? To die young, fighting to be
courageous, sustained by faith, but lost to family and friends who
deeply love you? Or, to die a different kind of death -- denied the
basic necessities of life and denied the opportunity to know Jesus,
experience His grace, and never know the love of His people?

If I were Melissa's mom, I know what my answer to that question would
be: my daughter's death would be a near-inconsolable tragedy. But, I
also remember the powerful words of an old Phil Collins song about the
suffering in Africa. The song is entitled "Colours," and the line
refers to seeing the pictures of those who are suffering and realizing
that "Like a mirror, you see yourself, these people, each have a name."
So I look at those little faces and read their names: Tumukunde, Apio,
Daniel, Mukiibi, and Nakijoba. None of them have both mom and dad
living with them -- I'm not even sure they are still living at all. But
their aunt, grandmothers, and friends who are raising them, would tell
you what the greater tragedy is to them: losing another person they
love.

So today, as I read the awful yet glorious words ofLuke 23 again, and
re-live the trials, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus, I am
reminded why God came to our mortal mess. Without Jesus, without our
hope, and our family of faith, we would be in a place where tears would
have no reason to cease. Our trust, however, is that He remedied the
stalking power of death and brought hope to families like those of
Melissa, Tumukunde, Apio, Daniel, Mukiibi, and Nakijoba -- and to me
and my family. You see, when these people have a name and you know
them, they aren't statistics or issues to be debated. In that moment,
tragedy is more than a word, it is life -- lost.

The emotions of earlier today still bubble up in my heart.

//Inspiration:Luke 23:46
Jesus called out in a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my
spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last."

//Incarnation:

How can I not share the love of God demonstrated in Jesus? How can I
not want every one to know about this love — and not just know in
words, but experience it in deeds? They have to know the Father -- and
His love -- and know with confidence that they can commit their life,
their spirit, into His hands and breath their last, with great
assurance of tomorrow's greater grace.

//Invitation:

O Father, forgive me for being jaded and cold to the need, the real and
ultimate need, of all people to know and experience your love in Jesus,
in whose name I pray. Amen

This was originally an entry in my blog, but seemed very appropriate to
share with our wider Heartlight audience. I hope you are blessed by

Morning & Evening -- Hosea 3:1 and Joshua 20:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 4, 2008

MORNING:

"The love of the Lord."
-- Hosea 3:1

Believer, look back through all thine experience, and think of the way
whereby the Lord thy God has led thee in the wilderness, and how he
hath fed and clothed thee every day-how he hath borne with thine ill
manners-how he hath put up with all thy murmurings, and all thy
longings after the flesh-pots of Egypt-how he has opened the rock to
supply thee, and fed thee with manna that came down from heaven. Think
of how his grace has been sufficient for thee in all thy troubles-how
his blood has been a pardon to thee in all thy sins-how his rod and his
staff have comforted thee. When thou hast thus looked back upon the
love of the Lord, then let faith survey his love in the future, for
remember that Christ's covenant and blood have something more in them
than the past. He who has loved thee and pardoned thee, shall never
cease to love and pardon. He is Alpha, and he shall be Omega also: he
is first, and he shall be last. Therefore, bethink thee, when thou
shalt pass through the valley of the shadow of death, thou needest fear
no evil, for he is with thee. When thou shalt stand in the cold floods
of Jordan, thou needest not fear, for death cannot separate thee from
his love; and when thou shalt come into the mysteries of eternity thou
needest not tremble, "For I am persuaded, that neither death; nor life,
nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor
things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be
able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our
Lord." Now, soul, is not thy love refreshed? Does not this make thee
love Jesus? Doth not a flight through illimitable plains of the ether
of love inflame thy heart and compel thee to delight thyself in the
Lord thy God? Surely as we meditate on "the love of the Lord," our
hearts burn within us, and we long to love him more.

EVENING:

"Your refuge from the avenger of blood."
-- Joshua 20:3

It is said that in the land of Canaan, cities of refuge were so
arranged, that any man might reach one of them within half a day at the
utmost. Even so the word of our salvation is near to us; Jesus is a
present Saviour, and the way to him is short; it is but a simple
renunciation of our own merit, and a laying hold of Jesus, to be our
all in all. With regard to the roads to the city of refuge, we are told
that they were strictly preserved, every river was bridged, and every
obstruction removed, so that the man who fled might find an easy
passage to the city. Once a year the elders went along the roads and
saw to their order, so that nothing might impede the flight of any one,
and cause him, through delay, to be overtaken and slain. How graciously
do the promises of the gospel remove stumbling blocks from the way!
Wherever there were by-roads and turnings, there were fixed up
hand-posts, with the inscription upon them-"To the city of refuge!"
This is a picture of the road to Christ Jesus. It is no roundabout road
of the law; it is no obeying this, that, and the other; it is a
straight road: "Believe, and live." It is a road so hard, that no
self-righteous man can ever tread it, but so easy, that every sinner,
who knows himself to be a sinner may by it find his way to heaven. No
sooner did the man-slayer reach the outworks of the city than he was
safe; it was not necessary for him to pass far within the walls, but
the suburbs themselves were sufficient protection. Learn hence, that if
you do but touch the hem of Christ's garment, you shall be made whole;
if you do but lay hold upon him with "faith as a grain of mustard
seed," you are safe.

"A little genuine grace ensures
The death of all our sins."

Only waste no time, loiter not by the way, for the avenger of blood is
swift of foot; and it may be he is at your heels at this still hour of
eventide.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Overmastering Majesty Of Personal Power"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 4, 2008

THE OVERMASTERING MAJESTY OF PERSONAL POWER

For the love of Christ constraineth us.

2 Corinthians 5:14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+5:14&sr=1

Paul says he is overruled, overmastered, held as in a vice, by the
love of Christ. Very few of us know what it means to be held in a
grip by the love of God; we are held by the constraint of our
experience only. The one thing that held Paul, until there was
nothing else on his horizon, was the love of God. "The love of Christ
constraineth us" - when you hear that note in a man or woman, you can
never mistake it. You know that the Spirit of God is getting
unhindered way in that life.

When we are born again of the Spirit of God, the note of testimony is
on what God has done for us, and rightly so. But the baptism of the
Holy Ghost obliterates that for ever, and we begin to realize what
Jesus meant when He said - "Ye shall be witnesses unto Me." Not
witnesses to what Jesus can do - that is an elementary witness - but
"witnesses unto Me." We will take everything that happens as
happening to Him, whether it be praise or blame, persecution or
commendation. No one can stand like that for Jesus Christ who is not
constrained by the majesty of His personal power. It is the only
thing that matters, and the strange thing is that it is the last
thing realized by the Christian worker. Paul says he is gripped by
the love of God, that is why he acts as he does. Men may call him mad
or sober, but he does not care; there is only one thing he is living
for, and that is to persuade men of the judgment seat of God, and of
the love of Christ. This abandon to the love of Christ is the one
thing that bears fruit in the life, and it will always leave the
impression of the holiness and of the power of God, never of our
personal holiness.

Praying with Paul : "More than Conquerors"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

MORE THAN CONQUERORS

Romans 8:34-37

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+8:34-37

Dear Father, our ultimate security and joy,

Since Christ Jesus, who died, is at your right hand interceding
for us, who shall separate us from your love? Shall tribulation, or
distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or
sword? No, not even the sword, for it is written, "For your sake we
are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be
slaughtered."

Shall any of these terrible things change your love one bit? No,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through you, the
awesome God who loved us with an awesome love.

May I never forget your love or ignore your sacrifice. May I never
use trouble as an excuse for not doing good, for you have the power
and authority to use trouble to produce good, and so I submit
myself to your transforming power.

In the name of your holy Son, I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Leaving it Behind -- Mark 2:13-14

Leaving it Behind

Jesus went to the lake again. Many people followed him there.
So Jesus taught them. Jesus was walking beside the lake, and
he saw a man named Levi, son of Alphaeus. Levi was sitting at
his place for collecting taxes. Jesus said to him, "Follow
me." Then Levi stood up and followed Jesus.

-- Mark 2:13-14 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Two exciting things happen in these two short verses. First, Jesus
shows that the call to follow him should be offered to all kinds of
different people: many we may think wouldn't follow him are actually
open to his call. Second, the call to follow Jesus means we are willing
to leave all of our bases of security behind and follow him. Levi was
willing, are we?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, please increase my courage and open the hidden places in my
heart that I have not fully offered to the Lordship of your Son and my
Savior. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
