Reconciling with Those Offended (1)

Reconciling with Those Offended (1)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matthew 5:23 Therefore if you are offering your gift at the
altar and there you remember that your brother has something
against you, (24) Leave your gift there before the altar,
and first go and be reconciled to your brother, and then come
and offer your gift.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

[Part 1 of 2]
[These verses] specifically refer to disputes among God's
children and among the brothers. If you are offering a gift
at the altar, that is, if you are offering something to God,
and suddenly remember that your brother has something against
you, this remembering is God's leading. The Holy Spirit often
gives you a necessary thought and reminds you of necessary
things. When you remember something or are reminded of
something, do not put the thought aside and think that it is
merely a thought.

If you remember that your brother has something against you,
this means you have transgressed against him. Your
transgression may or may not be in material things. Perhaps
you have offended him by acting unrighteously towards him. A
new believer should realize that if he offends a person and
does not apologize and ask for forgiveness, he is finished as
soon as the offended party mentions his name and sighs before
God. Whatever he offers to God will not be accepted.

If you are offering a gift at the altar and remember that
your brother has anything against you or has any reason to
sigh because of you, do not offer up your gift. You must
first go and be reconciled to your brother. What does it mean
to be reconciled to one's brother? It means to remove the
brother's wrath. You may need to either apologize or
recompense. Reconciliation means satisfying the other's
demand.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Going Home, by Sarah Stirman

The phone call came on a Tuesday morning, just as my family was yawning
awake to face another busy day. Not at all unexpected, but unwilling to
verbalize what was reality, my dad simply said, "Well, you know why
I've called." And I did. My grandfather's victory was won: he was
finally free of a body imprisoned by pain.

I set about my day making plans for leaving my home -- getting my
children's school work squared away, church obligations taken care of,
and substitute plans in place for my absence. My husband performed the
same juggling act for his work. The next morning we packed up here, my
"grown-up home" where I have a family and a job and a mortgage and
friends and church family and church obligations -- and headed to my
childhood home. We left West Texas, with its scrubby mesquite trees and
arid climate and drove to my childhood home, the claustrophobic
embracing trees of North Louisiana with its oppressive humidity and
heat. We gathered to celebrate the life -- earthly and eternal -- of my
grandfather, a crucial part of my heritage of faith.

The morning we left Louisiana, I took a walk as the rest of the world
came awake. I watched the sun rise over the bayou and cherished this
place, my home -- the place that knows my people, my kin, the place
that knows from whence I came, the place that has known me and loved me
from the beginning. It is so comfortable here. Here I feel so much "at
home" ... but not quite.

My thoughts turned to my "grown-up home," where I would be going later
that day -- the place where my friends surround me and love me in spite
of my weaknesses, the place where I raise my family and serve the Lord
in His church. So much "at home" ... but not quite.

Then I thought of my grandfather. He was finally home. He was where I
long to be. The world says, "You can never go home again." Scripture
says, "I am going to prepare a place for you" (John 14:1-3). We haven't
even been home yet! The world says, "Home is where the heart is."
Scripture says, "Set your mind on things above" (Colossians 3:1-4).

Our heavenly home knows from whence we came:

For you created my inmost being;

Put on my heart a longing for my Home.

you knit me together in my mother's womb

(Psalm 139:13).

My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.

When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:15-16).

Our heavenly home also loves us in spite of our weaknesses. Better yet,
"My power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Paul reminded the Philippians of our citizenship in heaven (Philippians
3:20-21). Each time a precious saint of this earth passes into heaven,
I am reminded again that this earthly house and body that I am blessed
with are only meant to be temporary shelter, not a permanent dwelling (2
Corinthians 5:1-10).

Lord, don't let the attractions of this world block the beauty of
my eternal home. Remind me daily of the things of You that are
truly important and lead me to recognize the things of this world
that are simply burdensome distractions. Put on my heart a longing
for my Home.

Morning & Evening -- Zechariah 14:8 and Genesis 3:8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

MORNING:

"In summer and in winter shall it be."
-- Zechariah 14:8

The streams of living water which flow from Jerusalem are not dried up
by the parching heats of sultry midsummer any more than they were
frozen by the cold winds of blustering winter. Rejoice, O my soul, that
thou art spared to testify of the faithfulness of the Lord. The seasons
change and thou changest, but thy Lord abides evermore the same, and
the streams of his love are as deep, as broad and as full as ever. The
heats of business cares and scorching trials make me need the cooling
influences of the river of His grace; I may go at once and drink to the
full from the inexhaustible fountain, for in summer and in winter it
pours forth its flood. The upper springs are never scanty, and blessed
be the name of the Lord, the nether springs cannot fail either. Elijah
found Cherith dry up, but Jehovah was still the same God of providence.
Job said his brethren were like deceitful brooks, but he found his God
an overflowing river of consolation. The Nile is the great confidence
of Egypt, but its floods are variable; our Lord is evermore the same.
By turning the course of the Euphrates, Cyrus took the city of Babylon,
but no power, human or infernal, can divert the current of divine
grace. The tracks of ancient rivers have been found all dry and
desolate, but the streams which take their rise on the mountains of
divine sovereignty and infinite love shall ever be full to the brim.
Generations melt away, but the course of grace is unaltered. The river
of God may sing with greater truth than the brook in the poem--

"Men may come, and men may go,
But I go on for ever."

How happy art thou, my soul, to be led beside such still waters! never
wander to other streams, lest thou hear the Lord's rebuke, "What hast
thou to do in the way of Egypt to drink of the muddy river?"

EVENING:

"The voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool
of the day."
-- Genesis 3:8

My soul, now that the cool of the day has come, retire awhile and
hearken to the voice of thy God. He is always ready to speak with thee
when thou art prepared to hear. If there be any slowness to commune it
is not on his part, but altogether on thine own, for he stands at the
door and knocks, and if his people will but open he rejoices to enter.
But in what state is my heart, which is my Lord's garden? May I venture
to hope that it is well trimmed and watered, and is bringing forth
fruit fit for him? If not, he will have much to reprove, but still I
pray him to come unto me, for nothing can so certainly bring my heart
into a right condition as the presence of the Sun of Righteousness, who
brings healing in his wings. Come, therefore, O Lord, my God, my soul
invites thee earnestly, and waits for thee eagerly. Come to me, O
Jesus, my well-beloved, and plant fresh flowers in my garden, such as I
see blooming in such perfection in thy matchless character! Come, O my
Father, who art the Husbandman, and deal with me in thy tenderness and
prudence! Come, O Holy Spirit, and bedew my whole nature, as the herbs
are now moistened with the evening dews. O that God would speak to me.
Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth! O that he would walk with me; I
am ready to give up my whole heart and mind to him, and every other
thought is hushed. I am only asking what he delights to give. I am sure
that he will condescend to have fellowship with me, for he has given me
his Holy Spirit to abide with me for ever. Sweet is the cool twilight,
when every star seems like the eye of heaven, and the cool wind is as
the breath of celestial love. My Father, my elder Brother, my sweet
Comforter, speak now in lovingkindness, for thou hast opened mine ear
and I am not rebellious.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: To Whom

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
To Whom
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
"You shall have no other gods before me." Exodus 20:3 NIV

Is there anything in your life that has come between you and your relationship with God? Don't look at me that way. This is a fair question. No, I'm not asking if you use a Ouija board to predict and plan your life. I'm not wondering if you worship your car or bow down to your TV. It is not about whether or not you face the East each day at noon or place turnips under your pillow at night. (I don't know what that means, but it sounds weird enough to fit.)

I'm asking if there is anything, anyone you put in front of your personal, intimate relationship with the only one and true God of the Bible. Still looking at me with a puzzled look? Let me share a few examples for you doubting few:

Would you rather be late for work or late to church? Are you more likely to skip your favorite TV show or your morning devotion? Have you ever given up a meal to spend urgently needed time in prayer? (and they're h aving fried chicken) Who do you say "good morning" to first each day? What does your checkbook say about your devotion to God? Is the first thing you grab with your coffee a newspaper or a copy of the precious word of God? To whom would your children (or your spouse) say you are the most devoted? Are you insulted more by the use of the Lord's name in vain, or an insult of your Alma Mater?

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! I hope you have some steel toed shoes on today! Mine are going to need a good soaking tonight! Remember, Jesus took the ten commandments to a higher level. Anything between you and God, anything that keeps you from your fervent, passionate, constant devotion to Him, is breaking that first commandment.

You can rejoice with me that He offers forgiveness, but let's start today to obey His perfect word! Let's put Him first! Let's let Him be supreme in our life! Let us begin, right now, making sure there is NO god, BUT GOD!

And I'll pray for your toe s!

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Inevitable Penalty"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 1, 2008

THE INEVITABLE PENALTY

Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out
thence, till thou have paid the uttermost farthing.

Matthew 5:26

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+5:26&sr=1

There is no heaven with a little corner of hell in it. God is
determined to make you pure and holy and right; He will not allow you
to escape for one moment from the scrutiny of the Holy Spirit. He
urged you to come to judgment right away when He convicted you, but
you did not; the inevitable process began to work and now you are in
prison, and you will only get out when you have paid the uttermost
farthing. "Is this a God of mercy, and of love?" you say. Seen from
God's side, it is a glorious ministry of love. God is going to bring
you out pure and spotless and undefiled; but He wants you to
recognize the disposition you were showing - the disposition of your
right to yourself. The moment you are willing that God should alter
your disposition, His recreating forces will begin to work. The
moment you realize God's purpose, which is to get you rightly related
to Himself and then to your fellow men, He will tax the last limit of
the universe to help you take the right road. Decide it now - "Yes,
Lord, I will write that letter to-night"; "I will be reconciled to
that man now."

These messages of Jesus Christ are for the will and the conscience,
not for the head. If you dispute the Sermon on the Mount with your
head, you will blunt the appeal to your heart.

"I wonder why I don't go on with God?" Are you paying your debts from
God's standpoint? Do now what you will have to do some day. Every
moral call has an "ought" behind it.

Galatians 4:1-7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+4:1-7

Dear Father,

Thank you for delivering us from slavery and immaturity. Thank you
for sending Jesus Christ at just the right time, in just the right
way, that he might redeem those under the law, and that we might
all receive the adoption as sons.

Thank you for sending the Spirit of your Son into our hearts,
crying, "Abba! Father," so that we are no longer slaves but sons.

In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Teaching the Crowds

Then Jesus left that place. He went into the area of Judea
and across the Jordan River. Again, many people came to him.
And Jesus taught the people like he always did.

-- Mark 10:1 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Two characteristics marked Jesus' ministry at this stage of his life.
First, he was very popular and crowds accompanied him everywhere he
went. Second, he taught them God's will. Jesus' goal in attracting
people was not to gain an earthly following, but to teach and to train
a group of people who would change the world. He saw teaching as his
task -- not his only task, but his primary task.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father God, I thank you for those who have so wonderfully taught me. I
realize, dear Father, that these people gave me one of the most
wonderful gifts anyone could give. May I never forget their sacrifices.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

July 1, 2008

VERSE:
O LORD my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from
all who pursue me...
-- Psalm 7:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+7:1

THOUGHT:
Who or what is pursuing you? Is it a past mistake? Is it an old
enemy? Is it your conscience? Is it a nagging sense of guilt? Is it
someone who wants to do you physical harm? Is it a physical
illness? In the middle of all the storms and struggles of life,
where do you go to find peace and security? There is only One who
can be a true and lasting refuge. Just One!

PRAYER:
Father God, you are my refuge and source of strength when my
courage is gone and my soul is weary. Please, dear Father, destroy
all the forces and powers and enemies that pursue me and seek to
take me captive and draw me away from you. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
