Today's Verse : Genesis 1:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 26, 2008

VERSE:
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness,
and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the
air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the
creatures that move along the ground."
-- Genesis 1:26

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Genesis+1:26

THOUGHT:
While we are creatures made by a loving Creator, we are so much
more than animals. There is something distinctive and special about
a human being compared with the rest of creation. God made us to
rule over the animal world. But rule does not mean ruin! Since
creation is part of God's testimony to himself (Psalm 19 & Romans
1:20), then we certainly don't want to ruin that testimony. In
fact, being made in God's likeness, we want to rule with the grace,
benevolence, and care that God himself uses.

PRAYER:
Father, help me see all the beauty of your creation. Guard me
from wastefulness. Guide me into the proper use of the natural
resources with which you have so generously blessed me. Most of
all, direct my decisions in the way I impact your creation. May my
lifestyle and my personal life never damage the beauty of your
voice in my world. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: The Boat Story Five

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
The Boat Story Five
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!" Mark 4:41 NIV

Oh, to simply trust the Lord! What a marvelous way to go through life.

I know that intellectually. I know that experientially! I know that in my heart! Oh, but to live that truth everyday, there is the challenge!

The disciples were stunnedagain! They couldnt believe their eyes. One minute they were in a state of panic, thinking they were about to die. They had called upon Jesus, who was asleep in the back of the boat, perhaps to bail water, perhaps to hold their hands as they died, and Jesus woke up, said a couple of words, and calmed the storm. Wow! What a miracle! What a God!

Was this the last time they would ever doubt Jesus again? I dont think so! As I read the account of the disciples, they continued to need growth in their spiritual life. There would be new trials. There would be new storms. They would have more to learn about this Savior named Jesus.

Where are you? Are you through the storm yet, or are you in the middle? Where are you going to be on the other side? Stronger? Most likely. More faithful? Probably. But, does that mean you will never doubt again? Probably not. If you are like most Christians I know, the storms will make you a better Christian, but they will also only prepare you for the next storm in your life. Youll need to learn some things about Jesus then, too. And, youll need to rely on Him to get you through that one too!

Use the current, or the past storm, to remind you of the God who is able to get you through the next one! Praise God He is!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Missed Opportunities, by Alan Smith

The story is told of a young man who wished to marry the farmer's
beautiful daughter. He went to the farmer to ask his permission. The
farmer looked him over and responded, "Son, go stand out in that field
and I'm going to release three bulls, one at a time. If you can catch
the tail of any one of the three bulls, you can marry my daughter."

The young man stood in the pasture awaiting the first bull. The barn
door opened and out ran the biggest, meanest-looking bull he had ever
seen. He decided that one of the next bulls had to be a better choice
than this one, so he ran over to the side and let the bull pass through
the pasture out the back gate.

The barn door opened again. Unbelievable. He had never seen anything so
big and fierce in his life. It stood -- pawing the ground, grunting,
slinging slobber -- as it eyed him. Whatever the next bull was like, it
had to be a better choice than this one. He ran to the fence and let
the bull pass through the pasture out the back gate.

The door opened a third time. A smile came across his face. This was
the weakest, scrawniest little bull he had ever seen. This one was his
bull. As the bull came running by, he positioned himself just right and
jumped at just the exact moment. He grabbed ... but the bull had no
tail!

We may miss out altogether.

Life is full of opportunities. Some will be easy to take advantage of,
some will be difficult. But once we let them pass -- often in hopes of
something better -- those opportunities may never again be available.

The same thing is also true of opportunities to serve Christ. God often
opens doors -- opportunities to speak up for Him, opportunities to
minister to someone who is hurting or in need, opportunities to make an
influence on the world around us. If we allow them to pass by (perhaps
because we are waiting for something easier to come along), we may miss
out on them altogether.

Continue praying, keeping alert, and always thanking God. Also pray
for us that God will give us an opportunity to tell people his
message (Colossians 4:2-3 NCV).

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all,
especially to those who are of the household of faith (Galatians
6:10).

May you take advantage of the doors God opens for you this day!

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 63:7 and Romans 3:31

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 25, 2008

MORNING:

"I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord, and the
praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord hath
bestowed on us."
-- Isaiah 63:7

And canst thou not do this? Are there no mercies which thou hast
experienced? What though thou art gloomy now, canst thou forget that
blessed hour when Jesus met thee, and said, "Come unto me"? Canst thou
not remember that rapturous moment when he snapped thy fetters, dashed
thy chains to the earth, and said, "I came to break thy bonds and set
thee free"? Or if the love of thine espousals be forgotten, there must
surely be some precious milestone along the road of life not quite
grown over with moss, on which thou canst read a happy memorial of his
mercy towards thee? What, didst thou never have a sickness like that
which thou art suffering now, and did he not restore thee? Wert thou
never poor before, and did he not supply thy wants? Wast thou never in
straits before, and did he not deliver thee? Arise, go to the river of
thine experience, and pull up a few bulrushes, and plait them into an
ark, wherein thine infant- faith may float safely on the stream. Forget
not what thy God has done for thee; turn over the book of thy
remembrance, and consider the days of old. Canst thou not remember the
hill Mizar? Did the Lord never meet with thee at Hermon? Hast thou
never climbed the Delectable Mountains? Hast thou never been helped in
time of need? Nay, I know thou hast. Go back, then, a little way to the
choice mercies of yesterday, and though all may be dark now, light up
the lamps of the past, they shall glitter through the darkness, and
thou shalt trust in the Lord till the day break and the shadows flee
away. "Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses,
for they have been ever of old."

EVENING:

"Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea,
we establish the law."
-- Romans 3:31

When the believer is adopted into the Lord's family, his relationship
to old Adam and the law ceases at once; but then he is under a new
rule, and a new covenant. Believer, you are God's child; it is your
first duty to obey your heavenly Father. A servile spirit you have
nothing to do with: you are not a slave, but a child; and now, inasmuch
as you are a beloved child, you are bound to obey your Father's
faintest wish, the least intimation of his will. Does he bid you fulfil
a sacred ordinance? It is at your peril that you neglect it, for you
will be disobeying your Father. Does he command you to seek the image
of Jesus? Is it not your joy to do so? Does Jesus tell you, "Be ye
perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect"? Then not
because the law commands, but because your Saviour enjoins, you will
labour to be perfect in holiness. Does he bid his saints love one
another? Do it, not because the law says, "Love thy neighbour," but
because Jesus says, "If ye love me, keep my commandments;" and this is
the commandment that he has given unto you, "that ye love one another."
Are you told to distribute to the poor? Do it, not because charity is a
burden which you dare not shirk, but because Jesus teaches, "Give to
him that asketh of thee." Does the Word say, "Love God with all your
heart"? Look at the commandment and reply, "Ah! commandment, Christ
hath fulfilled thee already-I have no need, therefore, to fulfil thee
for my salvation, but I rejoice to yield obedience to thee because God
is my Father now and he has a claim upon me, which I would not
dispute." May the Holy Ghost make your heart obedient to the
constraining power of Christ's love, that your prayer may be, "Make me
to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight." Grace
is the mother and nurse of holiness, and not the apologist of sin.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Leave Room For God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 25, 2008

LEAVE ROOM FOR GOD

But when it pleased God...

Galatians 1:15

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ga+1:15&sr=1

As workers for God we have to learn to make room for God - to give
God "elbow room." We calculate and estimate, and say that this and
that will happen, and we forget to make room for God to come in as He
chooses. Would we be surprised if God came into our meeting or into
our preaching in a way we had never looked for Him to come? Do not
look for God to come in any particular way, but look for Him. That is
the way to make room for Him. Expect Him to come, but do not expect
Him only in a certain way. However much we may know God, the great
lesson to learn is that at any minute He may break in. We are apt to
over look this element of surprise, yet God never works in any other
way. All of a sudden God meets the life - "When it was the good
pleasure of God. . ."

Keep your life so constant in its contact with God that His
surprising power may break out on the right hand and on the left.
Always be in a state of expectancy, and see that you leave room for
God to come in as He likes.

Praying with Paul : "Free from Sin"

FREE FROM SIN

Romans 6:6-11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+6:6-11

Dear Father, in whom I am alive,

Thank you that my old self was crucified with Christ so that my
sinful body might be destroyed, and that I might no longer be a
slave to sin. Thank you for freeing me from sin through my dying
with Jesus.

Death can never touch Jesus again. He lives his life unto you.
Likewise help me to consider myself dead to sin and alive to you in
him!

Help me to believe, and live out the fact, that sin and death can
never touch me either, since I joined Jesus in his dying through my
baptism into him.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Place and the Plan of Ministry

So Jesus traveled everywhere in Galilee. He spoke in the
synagogues. And he forced demons to leave people.

-- Mark 1:39 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
In the previous verses, Jesus re-commits to his mission to preach in
the villages and cities. He goes all over Galilee sharing the message
of the Kingdom. He goes to the people in the synagogues and continues
his powerful mastery over demons. He has a plan to fulfill his
God-ordained purpose. He executes this plan, not just because he is
committed to a plan, but because he also has a heart for people and a
commitment to honor God's will. What is your plan for honoring God's
will in your life? What is he calling you to do to serve him and his
children?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and loving Father, I want to honor your will for my life. However,
dear Father, I need the guidance of your Spirit to help me recognize
your will for me and to help me develop a plan to begin doing your work
and fulfilling your purposes for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
