Christ as the Milk and the Stone (2)

Christ as the Milk and the Stone (2)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1Pet 2:2 As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the
word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation, 3 If
you have tasted that the Lord is good. 4 Coming to Him, a
living stone, rejected by men but with God chosen and
precious,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Part 2 of 2)
We need more experience of Christ as the milk and the stone.
In the morning we should drink Christ as milk from the Word.
Then during the day the process of transformation should take
place within us. In the evening we should come to the church
meetings and fellowship with the saints. This is building.
Here we see that in the morning Christ is milk, and in the
evening He becomes the stone. During the day the milk does a
transforming work within us to produce a stone.

Those who do not experience Christ as milk may like to be
scattered or independent. The elders may visit them and
encourage them to come to the meetings. However, these saints
do not want to attend the meetings. One such brother once
said, "As long as certain persons are in the meeting, I do not
want to attend. I don't want to see their faces. I don't like
to attend the meetings simply because they are present." But
after a time the Lord did something in this case. This brother
repented of his attitude toward the particular ones involved.
Then he began to have a desire to drink the milk of the word.
Because of his drinking the milk, he longed to come to the
church meetings. Eventually he was fully reconciled with the
saints for the sake of the building.

First the Lord is milk to nourish us. Through the nourishment
in the milk of the word, transformation takes place. Then we
have the building, where the Lord Himself is the stone. This
is the reason that in chapter two we first have the milk and
then the stone.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Independence Day, by Phil Ware

Les came back from World War II without one arm and missing several
fingers on the other hand. He has carried the price tag of freedom in
his own body ever since. He is like so many who are among us who
purchased and preserved our freedom at great cost. It is a cost they
can never forget because they bear on their bodies and their psyches
the horrors of war. But Les came back. Tens of thousands of others
never came back from World War II, or Korea, or Viet Nam or from the
deserts of ... The old Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song speaks
truth, even in protest of war:

Find the cost of freedom,
buried in the ground.
Mother earth will swallow you,
lay your body down.

As U.S. citizens celebrate this Independence Day, let's remember that
cost that has been paid to purchase freedom -- not just for a nation,
but for all people!

There was a war for all the human race in which freedom for all people
was purchased. This freedom was purchased at great cost as well. The
symbol of that cost is not a hillside of white crosses or the Tomb of
the Unknown or a black wall of names. As precious as these symbols are
to those who know them and the people they represent, they do not
compare to the symbol of the Empty Tomb. This symbol transcends ethnic
and national boundaries.

The Empty Tomb is the symbol of the cost of true freedom for all people
-- the cost of Jesus leaving the security and power of heaven and
becoming earthbound and mortal (Philippians 2:5-11). It is the symbol
of the degradation of crucifixion before a jeering and mocking mob. It
is the symbol of an agonizing death on a cross when he had the power to
prevent it. It is also the symbol of three days in the ground -- Jesus
literally lay his body down. But the words to this tune are different.
"Find the cost of freedom, no longer in the ground."

You see, the Empty Tomb is the sign of ultimate freedom. It is the
reminder that we no longer have to fear death. All of our mortal fears
are conquered. As the apostle Paul says:

Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?
(1 Corinthians 15:54-55 NLT).

For the Christian, Independence Day doesn't come once a year. No, for
Jesus' followers, Independence day comes every Sunday! The early
Christians met on the first day of the week, the Lord's Day (Revelation
1:10), Sunday, to take of the Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7). This is their
Independence Day. By the end of the first century, Sunday had become
the Lord's Day. On this day they remembered the Lord's death and
anticipated his return because freedom from death had been won.
Independence Day is the day of the Empty Tomb! So as each Sunday
approaches, let's remember the cost of our freedom and give thanks!

Since the children have flesh and blood, he (Jesus) too shared in
their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds
the power of death -- that is the devil -- and free those who all
their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death (Hebrews
2:14-15).

Independence Day is the day of the Empty Tomb!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

How has Jesus brought you independence?

How would Sunday, and Communion, be different if we celebrated it in
light of the resurrection and Jesus victory and not just remembering
the crucifixion?

Do you think there is something important about the early Christians
taking the Lord's Supper on the first day of the week, the day of
Jesus' resurrection, rather than taking it on the day of his
crucifixion?

I'd love to hear from you on my blog about this:

Morning & Evening -- John 17:22 and Jeremiah 32:17

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 30, 2008

MORNING:

"And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them."
-- John 17:22

Behold the superlative liberality of the Lord Jesus, for he hath given
us his all. Although a tithe of his possessions would have made a
universe of angels rich beyond all thought, yet was he not content
until he had given us all that he had. It would have been surprising
grace if he had allowed us to eat the crumbs of his bounty beneath the
table of his mercy; but he will do nothing by halves, he makes us sit
with him and share the feast. Had he given us some small pension from
his royal coffers, we should have had cause to love him eternally; but
no, he will have his bride as rich as himself, and he will not have a
glory or a grace in which she shall not share. He has not been content
with less than making us joint-heirs with himself, so that we might
have equal possessions. He has emptied all his estate into the coffers
of the Church, and hath all things common with his redeemed. There is
not one room in his house the key of which he will withhold from his
people. He gives them full liberty to take all that he hath to be their
own; he loves them to make free with his treasure, and appropriate as
much as they can possibly carry. The boundless fulness of his
all-sufficiency is as free to the believer as the air he breathes.
Christ hath put the flagon of his love and grace to the believer's lip,
and bidden him drink on for ever; for could he drain it, he is welcome
to do so, and as he cannot exhaust it, he is bidden to drink
abundantly, for it is all his own. What truer proof of fellowship can
heaven or earth afford?

"When I stand before the throne
Dressed in beauty not my own;
When I see thee as thou art,
Love thee with unsinning heart;
Then, Lord, shall I fully know-
Not till then-how much I owe."

EVENING:

"Ah Lord God, behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth
by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing
too hard for thee."
-- Jeremiah 32:17

At the very time when the Chaldeans surrounded Jerusalem, and when the
sword, famine and pestilence had desolated the land, Jeremiah was
commanded by God to purchase a field, and have the deed of transfer
legally sealed and witnessed. This was a strange purchase for a
rational man to make. Prudence could not justify it, for it was buying
with scarcely a probability that the person purchasing could ever enjoy
the possession. But it was enough for Jeremiah that his God had bidden
him, for well he knew that God will be justified of all his children.
He reasoned thus: "Ah, Lord God! thou canst make this plot of ground of
use to me; thou canst rid this land of these oppressors; thou canst
make me yet sit under my vine and my fig-tree in the heritage which I
have bought; for thou didst make the heavens and the earth, and there
is nothing too hard for thee." This gave a majesty to the early saints,
that they dared to do at God's command things which carnal reason would
condemn. Whether it be a Noah who is to build a ship on dry land, an
Abraham who is to offer up his only son, or a Moses who is to despise
the treasures of Egypt, or a Joshua who is to besiege Jericho seven
days, using no weapons but the blasts of rams' horns, they all act upon
God's command, contrary to the dictates of carnal reason; and the Lord
gives them a rich reward as the result of their obedient faith. Would
to God we had in the religion of these modern times a more potent
infusion of this heroic faith in God. If we would venture more upon the
naked promise of God, we should enter a world of wonders to which as
yet we are strangers. Let Jeremiah's place of confidence be
ours-nothing is too hard for the God that created the heavens and the
earth.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Do It Now"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 30, 2008

DO IT NOW

Agree with thine adversary quickly.

Matthew 5:25

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+5:25&sr=1

Jesus Christ is laying down this principle - Do what you know you
must do, now, and do it quickly; if you do not, the inevitable
process will begin to work and you will have to pay to the last
farthing in pain and agony and distress. God's laws are unalterable;
there is no escape from them. The teaching of Jesus goes straight to
the way we are made up.

To see that my adversary gives me my rights is natural; but Jesus
says that it is a matter of eternal and imperative importance to me
that I pay my adversary what I owe him. From our Lord's standpoint it
does not matter whether I am defrauded or not; what does matter is
that I do not defraud. Am I insisting on my rights, or am I paying
what I owe from Jesus Christ's standpoint?

Do the thing quickly, bring yourself to judgment now. In moral and
spiritual matters, you must do it at once; if you do not, the
inexorable process will begin to work. God is determined to have His
child as pure and clean and white as driven snow, and as long as
there is disobedience in any point of His teaching, He will prevent
none of the working of His spirit. Our insistence in proving that we
are right is nearly always an indication that there has been some
point of disobedience. No wonder the Spirit so strongly urges to keep
steadfastly in the light!

"Agree with thine adversary quickly." Have you suddenly turned a
corner in any relationship and found that you had anger in your
heart? Confess it quickly, quickly put it right before God, be
reconciled to that one - do it now.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: By Prayer

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
By Prayer
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer." Mark 9:29 NIV

The disciples had tried to drive out the demon. They had watched Jesus many times before. It didn't seem like something they couldn't do. Jesus had said, "If you have faith...."

Everyone was watching, too! What would they think if they weren't able to get rid of this evil spirit? People may think less of them. They may say, "You're not really His disciples." or "Look at you, you can't do anything by yourself." or "Where's your faith?".

So, humbly and privately they ask Jesus, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" (verse 28) Fair question, wouldn't you agree? Why couldn't they perform what seemed to be a simple task? Why couldn't they do what they had been trained to do?

"This kind", Jesus said, "can only come out by prayer."

What are you going through today that can only come out by prayer? Oh sure, you are very spiritual. You have great Biblical knowledge to back up yo ur claim. You know the Pastor! You are a committed follower of Christ! You have the "good attendance" pin! You have a testimony! You are an example for others to follow! You even give God the glory! You are surely capable of doing HIS work!

But, this kind, can only come out by prayer! Today, whatever it is, no matter what people might think or say, turn it over to the Lord. Let Him know you need Him. Thank Him for all He has done for you before, but tell Him you need Him once again! Tell Him you need Him ALWAYS! Tell Him you realize....apart from Him you can do NOTHING!

Turn to Jesus....today!

ONE WITH CHRIST

Galatians 3:15-29

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+3:15-29

Dear Father,

Thank you, Father, for giving your holy law to Moses and for the
role it played in bringing people to Christ.

Thank you even more that Christ has come as our real teacher and
that we have been delivered to him, that we might be justified by
faith.

Thank you for making us your sons through faith, for making it
possible to put on Christ by our baptism into Christ.

Thank you that in him there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor
free, male nor female, but that we are all one in Christ.

Thank you that by making us one with Christ you have made us to be
Abraham's offspring, heirs according to the promise you made him.

In the name of Jesus I offer my praise. Amen.

A Salty Peace

"Salt is good. But if the salt loses its salty taste, then
you can't make it salty again. So, be full of goodness. And
have peace with each other."

-- Mark 9:50 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus wants us to be people of character -- people who are holy,
righteous, pure and redemptive in a world that is none of those things.
Jesus wants us to live in peace with each other in our local
congregations as well as with other believers even if we do not
recognize them as being in "our group." Two clear commands -- to be at
peace and to have a godly influence on those around us -- are made
without equivocation. Obedience to these two important commands is
needed so very much in the divided and worldly state in which believers
in Jesus now find themselves.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy Father, please help me exemplify the desires Jesus has for me -- I
want to be holy and redemptive as I live before my neighbors and I want
to be at peace with those who share faith in Jesus as Lord. In Jesus'
name I ask for your help in being fully obedient to you in these
matters. Amen.

Today's Verse : Exodus 6:30

VERSE:
But Moses said to the LORD, "Since I speak with faltering lips,
why would Pharaoh listen to me?"
-- Exodus 6:30

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Exodus+6:30

THOUGHT:
Moses had to learn the same lesson most of us have to learn:
folks really don't care that much about what we say. If the truth
be known, most of us can't say it very well, anyway. But, when we
offer ourselves to the Lord, he truly works through us and uses us
in mighty ways. Ol' Stammerin' Mo' is the great testimony that God
can take a shepherd with faltering speech and turn him into the
greatest leader of his time. Don't you think we had better ask what
God wants to do with us, and get to doing it!

PRAYER:
Loving Father, please use me in your service. I recognize that
all the gifts, abilities, and experiences that I have came from
you. All my capabilities are given to me so I can bring you praise.
So please enable me to use my abilities for your glory. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.
