Today's Verse : Colossians 3:4

VERSE:
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will
appear with him in glory.
-- Colossians 3:4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+3:4

THOUGHT:
Today, my world is beautiful -- great weather, wonderful church,
loving spouse, great kids, and blessed with all I truly need. But
this will change. Life is bound up with mortality. Love is
connected with imperfect people. Separation by geographical
distance, disagreement, and death are bound to happen to a certain
extent. The incredible blessing I have in Christ, however, is that
my true and lasting life is hidden with Christ in God. So while
things may be good in my life now, they're always vulnerable to
being touched by mortality. When Christ comes, they will be
gloriously perfect and unstained by evil, death, or decay. Now
that's good news!

PRAYER:
Holy and Righteous God, thank you so much for your overwhelming
and generous grace that saved me from sin. Thank you for Jesus,
whose resurrection from the dead insures my resurrection to life
with you, and the resurrection reunion that I will have with all
those who belong to you. Until that day when I get to praise you
face to face, please receive my thanks and praise in Jesus' name.
Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: The Boss

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
The Boss
Jesus is Lord By: Ron Edmondson
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. 1 Peter 3:15a NIV

A lot of people claim to know Christ, but those who are truly His, are those who have chosen in their hearts to make Him Lord!

Lord indicates one of authority. In the truest sense Lord means boss. I think most of us have a pretty good understanding of that word!

Sometimes the word boss has a negative connotation. We think of someone telling us what to do all the time. In today's high pressure society, it is almost a word we choose to dislike.

If you are a child of God, you have chosen Jesus as your boss. You have placed yourself in the servant's position. His will is to be yours. His commands are to be your instructions. You are to wait on Him to plan your life.

Now, if your one of those who sees "boss" as the bad guy, then maybe that is a bit hard for you to accept today. But, dear friend, Jesus is not that kind of boss. Oh, He wants to lead you alright, but where H e leads, you will want to follow!

You see, His ways for you are best. What He has in store for you will be life's richest rewards. Where He sends you will be the paths to victory. His commands will bring you great success! As your boss, Jesus will give you a great benefit package, and a retirement package that is literally "out of this world"!

If you are a Christian, you have a new boss! And, believe me, that's good news today!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

The Journey, by Phil Ware

"She's on my side!" Billy shouts.

Susie says, "Daddy, how much longer till we get there?" She is trying
to not dignify her brother's words.

"She's touching me!" Billy shouts again.

"You're so immature!" Susie responds instinctively. She lets out a deep
sigh, and then says, "Mom, can we stop? I need to go to the bathroom.
You know daddy, he'll never stop until we need to stop for gas."

Seeing his opening, Billy fires the dig at his sister next to him in
the seat of their family minivan: "Smells like you're the one with gas
to me."

"Oh, why don't you just grow up?" Susie can't help but respond.

"Oooh, and you think you miss mature?" Billy knows he's under her skin
and is not about to let up.

"You two had better stop right now." Dad has finally had enough. "You
don't want to make me have to pull over and deal with this?"

At this point, mom has steadfastly tried to ignore the predictable
tacky banter, but has had enough. As she looks up from her book, she
asks, "Anybody want to play the license plate game?"

Spiritual maturity is the journey and not a destination.

This is the part of the family trip they don't show on all of those
mini-van commercials. You know, the commercials where the destinations
are fantastic, the children are happy and never bratty, dads are never
cranky, the moms have perfectly styled hair, and no one ever needs to
stop to go to the bathroom. At the end of the commercial, they are
looking at the stars out of the back of their minivan, smiling happily.
Of course, they don't have to deal with mosquitoes or sweat.

If we are honest, most of us get frustrated with the long trip before
we get to our destinations. This also makes it hard for us in our
Christian walk. We get impatient with our progress -- or lack of it --
as we seek to grow in Christ. We look for shortcuts and quick fixes.
We'll grab the latest list of things to do or pick up the newest
self-help best seller in an attempt to get there more quickly.

Spiritual maturity, however, is the journey and not a destination.
There are no shortcuts. We know it's not a list of things to achieve or
shortcuts to take, but a long trip to become like Jesus (Philippians
3:7-11; Philippians 2:5-11). Part of being spiritually mature is
admitting we haven't arrived yet, but a journey to continue (Philippians
3:12-16). To help us get on the journey, we have the example of those
who are alive with Christ-like character (Philippians 3:17-19). Our
trip to become like Jesus can get a little rough when folks get cranky
and we all get a little too impatient with ourselves and each other,
but the destination is surely worth effort (Philippians 3:20-21). So
let's remember our destination, and let's not give up on ourselves and
those traveling with us!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you stay encouraged to stick with the journey and keep trying to
become more and more like Jesus?

What do you read, where do you turn, what helps encourage you and help
you restore your spiritual passion and remain on the journey to be like
Jesus?

I'd love to hear from you on my blog:

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 48:10 and Matthew 3:16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 3, 2008

MORNING:

"I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction."
-- Isaiah 48:10

Comfort thyself, tried believer, with this thought: God saith, "I have
chosen thee in the furnace of affliction." Does not the word come like
a soft shower, assuaging the fury of the flame? Yea, is it not an
asbestos armour, against which the heat hath no power? Let affliction
come-God has chosen me. Poverty, thou mayst stride in at my door, but
God is in the house already, and he has chosen me. Sickness, thou mayst
intrude, but I have a balsam ready-God has chosen me. Whatever befalls
me in this vale of tears, I know that he has "chosen" me. If, believer,
thou requirest still greater comfort, remember that you have the Son of
Man with you in the furnace. In that silent chamber of yours, there
sitteth by your side One whom thou hast not seen, but whom thou lovest;
and ofttimes when thou knowest it not, he makes all thy bed in thy
affliction, and smooths thy pillow for thee. Thou art in poverty; but
in that lovely house of thine the Lord of life and glory is a frequent
visitor. He loves to come into these desolate places, that he may visit
thee. Thy friend sticks closely to thee. Thou canst not see him, but
thou mayst feel the pressure of his hands. Dost thou not hear his
voice? Even in the valley of the shadow of death he says, "Fear not, I
am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God." Remember that noble
speech of Caesar: "Fear not, thou carriest Caesar and all his fortune."
Fear not, Christian; Jesus is with thee. In all thy fiery trials, his
presence is both thy comfort and safety. He will never leave one whom
he has chosen for his own. "Fear not, for I am with thee," is his sure
word of promise to his chosen ones in the "furnace of affliction." Wilt
thou not, then, take fast hold of Christ, and say-

"Through floods and flames, if Jesus lead,
I'll follow where he goes."

EVENING:

"He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove."
-- Matthew 3:16

As the Spirit of God descended upon the Lord Jesus, the head, so he
also, in measure, descends upon the members of the mystical body. His
descent is to us after the same fashion as that in which it fell upon
our Lord. There is often a singular rapidity about it; or ever we are
aware, we are impelled onward and heavenward beyond all expectation.
Yet is there none of the hurry of earthly haste, for the wings of the
dove are as soft as they are swift. Quietness seems essential to many
spiritual operations; the Lord is in the still small voice, and like
the dew, his grace is distilled in silence. The dove has ever been the
chosen type of purity, and the Holy Spirit is holiness itself. Where he
cometh, everything that is pure and lovely, and of good report, is made
to abound, and sin and uncleanness depart. Peace reigns also where the
Holy Dove comes with power; he bears the olive branch which shows that
the waters of divine wrath are assuaged. Gentleness is a sure result of
the Sacred Dove's transforming power: hearts touched by his benign
influence are meek and lowly henceforth and for ever. Harmlessness
follows, as a matter of course; eagles and ravens may hunt their
prey-the turtledove can endure wrong, but cannot inflict it. We must be
harmless as doves. The dove is an apt picture of love, the voice of the
turtle is full of affection; and so, the soul visited by the blessed
Spirit, abounds in love to God, in love to the brethren, and in love to
sinners; and above all, in love to Jesus. The brooding of the Spirit of
God upon the face of the deep, first produced order and life, and in
our hearts, he causes and fosters new life and light. Blessed Spirit,
as thou didst rest upon our dear Redeemer, even so rest upon us from
this time forward and for ever.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Unrelieved Quest"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 3, 2008

THE UNRELIEVED QUEST

Feed My sheep.

John 21:17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+21:17&sr=1

This is love in the making. The love of God is tin-made, it is God's
nature. When we receive the Holy Spirit He unites us with God so that
His love is manifested in us. When the soul is united to God by the
indwelling Holy Spirit, that is not the end; the end is that we may
be one with the Father as Jesus was. What kind of oneness had Jesus
Christ with the Father? Such a oneness that the Father sent Him down
here to be spent for us, and He says - "As the Father hath sent Me,
even so send I you."

Peter realizes now with the revelation of the Lord's hurting question
that he does love Him; then comes the point - "Spend it out." Don't
testify how much you love Me, don't profess about the marvellous
revelation you have had, but - "Feed My sheep." And Jesus has some
extraordinarily funny sheep, some bedraggled, dirty sheep, some
awkward, butting sheep, some sheep that have gone astray! It is
impossible to weary God's love, and it is impossible to weary that
love in me if it springs from the one centre. The love of God pays no
attention to the distinctions made by natural individuality. If I
love my Lord I have no business to be guided by natural temperament;
I have to feed His sheep. There is no relief and no release from this
commission. Beware of counterfeiting the love of God by working along
the line of natural human sympathy, because that will end in
blaspheming the love of God.

Praying with Paul : "Abounding in Hope"

ABOUNDING IN HOPE

Romans 15:1-13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+15:1-13

Dear Father, who welcomes all into your family,

Help us to welcome one another, as Christ has welcomed us, for
your glory.

For you taught us that Christ became a servant to the circumcised
to show your truthfulness - in order to confirm the promises made
to the patriarchs, and in order that we who were not Jews might
glorify you for your mercy.

May you, our Father and God, fill us with all joy and peace in
believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit we may abound in
hope.

In the name of Jesus and according to his command. Amen.

WJD! -- Folding Under Fire -- Mark 4:16-17

Folding Under Fire

"Other people are like the seed planted on rocky ground. They
hear the teaching and quickly and gladly accept it. But those
people don't allow the teaching to go deep into their lives.
They keep that teaching only a short time. When trouble or
persecution comes because of the teaching they accepted, they
quickly quit."

-- Mark 4:16-17 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
So many of us can get excited about new things, especially new
spiritual undertakings. Unfortunately, when the going gets tough, we
tend to bog down and give up. Self-discipline has never been a
commodity found in abundance. Those who are first responding to Jesus
will find difficulty awaiting them. There is no way to avoid this. At
the very least, these new believers will find themselves in a culture
clash as the values of the Kingdom conflict with the values of the
world around them. Often times, the world around new Christians pushes
back. Sometimes it is overt persecution. Other times it is that
incessant ridicule or condescension that gets to them. If Jesus faced a
time of trial for 40 days after his baptism, we must know that new
followers of Jesus will too. Persecution isn't an option for most
believers! (See John 16:33!)

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Give me strength, O heavenly Father, to withstand the ridicule,
persecution, and opposition of others. Help me be an encouragement to
new believers so they do not succumb to the same kinds of problems in
their lives. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
