Today's Verse : Hosea 2:19-20

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 19, 2008

VERSE:
I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in
righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth
you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD.
-- Hosea 2:19-20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Hosea+2:19-20

THOUGHT:
God longed for Israel to be faithful to him. Despite the
unfaithfulness in the past, God offered his people forgiveness and
hope that they could be restored to relationship with him again.
If God was willing to pay such an incredibly high price to do this,
shouldn't we do the same with each other? But, let's go one step
further; let's be faithful to each other and to God in the first
place!

PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, God of compassion, please give me a more
forgiving and sensitive heart. In addition, dear Father, please
give me a faithful heart that will not stray from the pledges and
vows I have made to you and to others. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Gut Call One

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Gut Call One
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 1 Peter 3:15 NIV

As I read Gods Word, over and over again we are encouraged to be ready with answers. That is not just in defending our faith, but in living. Life often requires quick decisions. Speed in making the call is sometimes critical to success. If we are to have victory in our personal life, we must be able to operate at times from the gut level.

I have had so many times in my life where I was presented with an on opportunity to do the right thing or the wrong thing; and many times both of them appeared equal at first glance. It was only with time that one decision proved to be the best decision.

How do we make those quick, decisive decisions? Is there a secret to making wisdom work for us at all times? Lets talk about it this week.

Now that you've read Today's Mustard Seed Thought, have a little fun and go to the Web and try the Word Search Game. It's always based the current Mustard Seed Thought.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Majestic, by Phil Ware

O Lord, Our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. You
have set your glory above the heavens. (Psalm 8:1 NIV)

The beauty of Africa is astounding. The vastness of the Sahara is
indescribable. The length and importance of the Nile is inestimable.
The variety of plant and animal life is hard to imagine. The scenic
views of the Savannah, the forest land, and the marshes provides for
breathtaking views and heart-stopping beauty. All of these are
reminders of God's creativity and His desire for diversity and His
passion for beauty. For those of us who have seen this amazing
continent and seen God's handiwork elsewhere, we are left in wonder and
amazement at our Father's grace to make such a place and prepare it for
us as the place to know Him and His love for us.

O Lord, Our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. You
have set your glory above the heavens. (Psalm 8:1)

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon
and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you
are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made
him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with
glory and honor. (Psalm 8:3-5)

At the same time, Africa's greatest treasures are not the natural
wonders, the physical beauty of the landscape, or the varied terrain.
Africa's greatest resource is her people. The heart of this people, the
smile, the warmth, and the welcome are wonders to experience. Yet
often, much of this greatest resource of Africa wakes up in crisis —
children trapped in disease (malaria, diarrhea diseases from bad water,
coughs and weakness from poor hygiene, and HIV/AIDS), living in slums
or despair or poverty, growing up without knowing their high purpose
and without hope of God's dream for them.

Many on this continent are working hard, in the name of Jesus, to
change these things. I have spent the last week seeing their work,
rejoicing in their successes, and grieving at the enormity of their
task. I am also convinced we can, and must, do something to help. Our
efforts can be effective and focused. I can make a difference — you can
make a difference — in the life of one child that can change his or her
future, and just maybe the future of Africa. It is part of our high
exalted privilege as the crown of God's creation to do this, to help
some live up to their exalted privilege as God's child. It is the
natural outflowing of our praise to the majestic God to help join with
Africans of faith as they try to reawaken their people to Gods high and
holy purpose in them.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon
and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you
are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made
him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with
glory and honor. (Psalm 8:3-5)

Our praise of God, our joyous response of worship to His love, is a
symphony of two movements. The first is the praise of His majesty in
the beauty and wonder of Creation. Loving God with our heart, soul,
mind, and strength as Jesus described it, is our natural response to
God's created beauty.

The second movement of this symphony of praise — so often skipped,
missed, or discarded — is to work in harmony with God's Spirit on the
coming of His Kingdom into the lives of men and women now. Yes,
I do believe Heaven awaits us in the future, but if we don't work to
see the character and compassion of God's Kingdom come alive now, how
can we say we long for this new bright future of His grace in heaven?
Jesus called this loving our neighbor as ourselves. Both lines of Psalm
8 must be true and must be parts of our life of worship. And they can
be!

Our praise of God is a symphony of two movements.

Just as our Savior and Lord did, let's work to bring that Kingdom to
life, now. After all, it's part of our prayer: "Your Kingdom come, Your
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." And we will, because God is
majestic and He has called us to reflect that same majesty.

For more on our African trip, check the links below.

To sponsor a child, please see the Compassion website:
http://www.compassion.com/sponsor

To join this song of praise, look around and lift someone's eyes to the
heavens and help them know the love of God and His plan to make them
part of His glory.

And for those who have already committed to help sponsor a child while
I've been gone, I want to say from the bottom of my heart, "THANK YOU!"

Morning & Evening -- Job 10:2 and Luke 15:18

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 18, 2008

MORNING:

"Shew me wherefore thou contendest with me."
-- Job 10:2

Perhaps, O tried soul, the Lord is doing this to develop thy graces.
There are some of thy graces which would never be discovered if it were
not for thy trials. Dost thou not know that thy faith never looks so
grand in summer weather as it does in winter? Love is too often like a
glow-worm, showing but little light except it be in the midst of
surrounding darkness. Hope itself is like a star-not to be seen in the
sunshine of prosperity, and only to be discovered in the night of
adversity. Afflictions are often the black foils in which God doth set
the jewels of his children's graces, to make them shine the better. It
was but a little while ago that on thy knees thou wast saying, "Lord, I
fear I have no faith: let me know that I have faith." Was not this
really, though perhaps unconsciously, praying for trials?-for how canst
thou know that thou hast faith until thy faith is exercised? Depend
upon it, God often sends us trials that our graces may be discovered,
and that we may be certified of their existence. Besides, it is not
merely discovery, real growth in grace is the result of sanctified
trials. God often takes away our comforts and our privileges in order
to make us better Christians. He trains his soldiers, not in tents of
ease and luxury, but by turning them out and using them to forced
marches and hard service. He makes them ford through streams, and swim
through rivers, and climb mountains, and walk many a long mile with
heavy knapsacks of sorrow on their backs. Well, Christian, may not this
account for the troubles through which thou art passing? Is not the
Lord bringing out your graces, and making them grow? Is not this the
reason why he is contending with you?

"Trials make the promise sweet;
Trials give new life to prayer;
Trials bring me to his feet,
Lay me low, and keep me there."

EVENING:

"Father, I have sinned."
-- Luke 15:18

It is quite certain that those whom Christ has washed in his precious
blood need not make a confession of sin, as culprits or criminals,
before God the Judge, for Christ has for ever taken away all their sins
in a legal sense, so that they no longer stand where they can be
condemned, but are once for all accepted in the Beloved; but having
become children, and offending as children, ought they not every day to
go before their heavenly Father and confess their sin, and acknowledge
their iniquity in that character? Nature teaches that it is the duty of
erring children to make a confession to their earthly father, and the
grace of God in the heart teaches us that we, as Christians, owe the
same duty to our heavenly Father. We daily offend, and ought not to
rest without daily pardon. For, supposing that my trespasses against my
Father are not at once taken to him to be washed away by the cleansing
power of the Lord Jesus, what will be the consequence? If I have not
sought forgiveness and been washed from these offences against my
Father, I shall feel at a distance from him; I shall doubt his love to
me; I shall tremble at him; I shall be afraid to pray to him: I shall
grow like the prodigal, who, although still a child, was yet far off
from his father. But if, with a child's sorrow at offending so gracious
and loving a Parent, I go to him and tell him all, and rest not till I
realize that I am forgiven, then I shall feel a holy love to my Father,
and shall go through my Christian career, not only as saved, but as one
enjoying present peace in God through Jesus Christ my Lord. There is a
wide distinction between confessing sin as a culprit, and confessing
sin as a child. The Father's bosom is the place for penitent
confessions. We have been cleansed once for all, but our feet still
need to be washed from the defilement of our daily walk as children of
God.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Initiative Against Despair"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 18, 2008

THE INITIATIVE AGAINST DESPAIR

Rise, let us be going.

Matthew 26:46

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+26:46&sr=1

The disciples went to sleep when they should have kept awake, and
when they realized what they had done it produced despair. The sense
of the irreparable is apt to make us despair, and we say - "It is all
up now, it is no use trying any more." If we imagine that this kind
of despair is exceptional, we are mistaken, it is a very ordinary
human experience. Whenever we realize that we have not done that
which we had a magnificent opportunity of doing, then we are apt to
sink into despair; and Jesus Christ comes and says - "Sleep on now,
that opportunity is lost for ever, you cannot alter it, but arise and
go to the next thing." Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the
bosom of Christ, and go out into the irresistible future with Him.

There are experiences like this in each of our lives. We are in
despair, the despair that comes from actualities, and we cannot lift
ourselves out of it. The disciples in this instance had done a
downright unforgivable thing; they had gone to sleep instead of
watching with Jesus, but He came with a spiritual initiative against
their despair and said - "Arise and do the next thing." If we are
inspired of God, what is the next thing? To trust Him absolutely and
to pray on the ground of His Redemption.

Never let the sense of failure corrupt your new action.

Praying with Paul : "Need for Interdependence"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

NEED FOR INTERDEPENDENCE

Romans 12:3-8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+12:3-8

Dear Father, who wills our interdependence,

Help me not to think more highly of myself than I ought to think,
but to think with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith
which you have assigned me.

I know that I am but one member in the body of Christ, and while
important, no more important than any other.

For as in one body, we have many members, and all members do not
have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ,
and individually members of each other.

Help me to understand and practice the interdependence necessary
for the healthy functioning of the body of Christ. May each member
be in sympathetic union with all others.

In the name of Jesus, who shares all spiritual blessings with us,
we ask for a growing love among all your people. Amen.

WJD! -- No Accidental Band -- Mark 3:13

No Accidental Band

Then Jesus went up on a hill. Jesus told some men to come to
him. These were the men Jesus wanted. These men went up to
Jesus.

-- Mark 3:13 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
When we meet the 12 apostles of Jesus, we need to know that they are
not an accidental band of misfits. Jesus chose them prayerfully. They
answered his call and followed him. He chose them carefully because he
was about to invest his remaining time in training them. They would go
with him and learn by being at his side -- not just hearing his
message, but seeing his life. What are we to learn from this? It seems
to me that several lessons are important. First, Jesus chooses how he
will use those of us who follow him -- he is Lord and that is his right
and responsibility. Second, we have to answer his call to follow; he
will not force us. Third, the diversity and seeming insignificance of
those he chose is purposeful -- Jesus sees things in us and in others
that we cannot see and longs to use us in his cause in special ways.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Loving God, the giver of every good and lasting gift, please help me to
see those things you have created me to do. Even more, dear Father,
move me to do those things whether I think they are menial or glorious,
for I know that you will use everything I offer you to your glory and
for the blessing of others. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
