=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Prayer out of Compassion, by Ron Rose

In 1857, the US was deep in a spiritual depression, but God was about
to invade the impossible. Jeremiah Lamphier, a struggling, middle-aged
nobody, walked the streets of New York City with nothing but a
overwhelming compassion for people.

He wasn't a preacher or church-guy. He was a nobody who knew how to
pray into the presence of God. He used the 4th floor room of the old
Dutch Reformed Church and invited merchants, mechanics, clerks,
strangers and businessmen to join him each Wednesday for a prayer time
at noon.

It all began on the 21st of September, 1857, with 6 strangers. On the
following Wednesday, 20 showed up. By the 3rd week, there were 40. Soon
they changed to daily prayer times and expanded to three floors of the
old church.

It all began with 6 strangers.

God was showing up … invading the impossible everyday. By springtime,
prayer meetings were being held in buildings throughout the city. The
newspapers reported that over 6,000 were attending daily prayer
meetings in New York, and the "prayer meeting" craze had spread to
Pittsburgh, Washington DC, and Philadelphia.

By May, a prominent newspaper reported that New England had been
profoundly changed by these prayer meetings. And, within the next two
years, noonday prayer meetings were being held in 15,000 cities across
America.

These meetings were not based on powerful sermons, special celebrity
appearances, or popular musical groups; God was the power of these
meetings. It was God's presence and the stories of his fingerprints in
real lives that made it all happen.

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James
5:16 TNIV).

Morning & Evening -- Song of Solomon 5:13 and Song of Solomon 2:1

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, May 1, 2008

MORNING:

"His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers."
-- Song of Solomon 5:13

Lo, the flowery month is come! March winds and April showers have done
their work, and the earth is all bedecked with beauty. Come my soul,
put on thine holiday attire and go forth to gather garlands of heavenly
thoughts. Thou knowest whither to betake thyself, for to thee "the beds
of spices" are well known, and thou hast so often smelt the perfume of
"the sweet flowers," that thou wilt go at once to thy well-beloved and
find all loveliness, all joy in him. That cheek once so rudely smitten
with a rod, oft bedewed with tears of sympathy and then defiled with
spittle-that cheek as it smiles with mercy is as fragrant aromatic to
my heart. Thou didst not hide thy face from shame and spitting, O Lord
Jesus, and therefore I will find my dearest delight in praising thee.
Those cheeks were furrowed by the plough of grief, and crimsoned with
red lines of blood from thy thorn-crowned temples; such marks of love
unbounded cannot but charm my soul far more than "pillars of perfume."
If I may not see the whole of his face I would behold his cheeks, for
the least glimpse of him is exceedingly refreshing to my spiritual
sense and yields a variety of delights. In Jesus I find not only
fragrance, but a bed of spices; not one flower, but all manner of sweet
flowers. He is to me my rose and my lily, my heart's- ease and my
cluster of camphire. When he is with me it is May all the year round,
and my soul goes forth to wash her happy face in the morning-dew of his
grace, and to solace herself with the singing of the birds of his
promises. Precious Lord Jesus, let me in very deed know the blessedness
which dwells in abiding, unbroken fellowship with thee. I am a poor
worthless one, whose cheek thou hast deigned to kiss! O let me kiss
thee in return with the kisses of my lips.

EVENING:

"I am the rose of Sharon."
-- Song of Solomon 2:1

Whatever there may be of beauty in the material world, Jesus Christ
possesses all that in the spiritual world in a tenfold degree. Amongst
flowers the rose is deemed the sweetest, but Jesus is infinitely more
beautiful in the garden of the soul than the rose can be in the gardens
of earth. He takes the first place as the fairest among ten thousand.
He is the sun, and all others are the stars; the heavens and the day
are dark in comparison with him, for the King in his beauty transcends
all. "I am the rose of Sharon." This was the best and rarest of roses.
Jesus is not "the rose" alone, he is "the rose of Sharon," just as he
calls his righteousness "gold," and then adds, "the gold of Ophir"-the
best of the best. He is positively lovely, and superlatively the
loveliest. There is variety in his charms. The rose is delightful to
the eye, and its scent is pleasant and refreshing; so each of the
senses of the soul, whether it be the taste or feeling, the hearing,
the sight, or the spiritual smell, finds appropriate gratification in
Jesus. Even the recollection of his love is sweet. Take the rose of
Sharon, and pull it leaf from leaf, and lay by the leaves in the jar of
memory, and you shall find each leaf fragrant long afterwards, filling
the house with perfume. Christ satisfies the highest taste of the most
educated spirit to the very full. The greatest amateur in perfumes is
quite satisfied with the rose: and when the soul has arrived at her
highest pitch of true taste, she shall still be content with Christ,
nay, she shall be the better able to appreciate him. Heaven itself
possesses nothing which excels the rose of Sharon. What emblem can
fully set forth his beauty? Human speech and earth-born things fail to
tell of him. Earth's choicest charms commingled, feebly picture his
abounding preciousness. Blessed rose, bloom in my heart for ever!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Insight Not Emotion"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 1, 2008

INSIGHT NOT EMOTION

I have to lead my life in faith, without seeing Him.

2 Corinthians 5:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+5:7&sr=1

For a time we are conscious of God's attentions, then, when God
begins to use us in His enterprises, we take on a pathetic look and
talk of the trials and the difficulties, and all the time God is
trying to make us do our duty as obscure people. None of us would be
obscure spiritually if we could help it. Can we do our duty when God
has shut up heaven? Some of us always want to be illuminated saints
with golden babes and the flush of inspiration, and to have the
saints of God dealing with us all the time. A gilt-edged saint is no
good, he is abnormal, unfit for daily life, and altogether unlike
God. We are here as men and women, not as half-fledged angels, to do
the work of the world, and to do it with an infinitely greater power
to stand the turmoil because we have been born from above.

If we try to re-introduce the rare moments of inspiration, it is a
sign that it is not God we want. We are making a fetish of the
moments when God did come and speak, and insisting that He must do it
again; whereas what God wants us to do is to "walk by faith." How
many of us have laid ourselves by, as it were, and said - "I cannot
do any more until God appears to me." He never will, and without any
inspiration, without any sudden touch of God, we will have to get up.
Then comes the surprise - "Why, He was there all the time, and I
never knew it!" Never live for the rare moments, they are surprises.
God will give us touches of inspiration when He sees we are not in
danger of being led away by them. We must never make our moments of
inspiration our standard; our standard is our duty.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: God In Politics?

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
God In Politics?
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." Romans 9:17 NIV

Make no mistake about it, God is in control!

Being a political observer, I have closely been watching the presidential race in the United States. As we move closer to selecting a new president, the candidates are trying to make their positions known. Each one has his own solutions to our problems. I'm not criticizing any of them, but I can't help but remind myself, that ultimately, the fate of the nation (and any nation) is in the hand of God.

Pharaoh thought he was in control. From what I understand about the office there may have never been a more powerful position in history. The Pharaoh had all the world could offer at the time; the best of wealth, wine and women. His armies were as vast as his land and livestock. When he was threatened by an enemy, he quickly elimi nated them. There was no limit to his control....or at least he thought.

Isn't it neat how God has a way of putting people in their place? God makes it clear to Pharaoh that his only purpose in this world is to be used in such a way as to ultimately give God the glory. Wow! Can you say "humbling"?

Dear Christian friends, regardless of what the media or politicians may say, the one in charge is the Lord God Almighty; Creator; King Eternal! And aren't you glad?

THE GOOD NEWS

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:1-4

Dear Father, God of the living,

Thank you for the Good News that Jesus Christ, your Son, is risen
from the dead. Thank you that by it I am saved and in it I stand,
if I hold it fast - unless I believed in vain - which I did not.

Thank you for the important message we received - that Christ died
for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, - thank you, Lord!
- that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in
accordance to the Scriptures, - thank you, Lord! - and that he
appeared to many, many eyewitnesses - thank you, Lord! Praise your
name!

In the name of Jesus I thank you for your resurrection power and
ask that I may live so as to always have hope of sharing in it.
Amen.

WJD! -- Defiled! -- Mark 7:21-23

Defiled!

All these bad things begin inside a person, in the mind: bad
thoughts, sexual sins, stealing, murder, adultery, greed,
doing bad things to people, lying, doing things that are
morally wrong, jealousy, saying bad things about people,
proud boasting, and foolish living. All these evil things
come from inside a person. These things make a person wrong."

-- Mark 7:21-23 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Sometimes in our quest to emphasize Jesus' concern about our inner
being, we accidentally let go of any sense of holy standards. Jesus did
not. Jesus' followers were instructed not to do so. Morality was
stressed as a response to God's grace, was the product of a life led by
the Holy Spirit, and was the demonstration that they died to their old
life of sin when a person was baptized with Christ into his death.
Immorality was condemned in specific and strong terms. The observable
immorality and corruption, however, found it's origin in Satan's
influence on the inner being of a person. Externals were simply the way
a person's inner life became exposed.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father in heaven, please work on my heart. Purify my motives and my
desires. Make me your person, holy and pure. In Jesus' name. Amen.

VERSE:
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ...
-- Romans 5:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+5:1

THOUGHT:
The cost of peace is always high. Our peace was purchased by
Jesus' enormous sacrifice. God made sure the price for our
rebellion was paid, but he didn't make us pay it because we could
never have fulfilled our obligation. Instead, God paid it himself
in Jesus.

PRAYER:
Holy and loving Father, thank you for making peace and bringing
me back to you at great cost to yourself. Thank you, Lord Jesus,
for willingly surrendering yourself to the horrible cruelty of the
Cross. Thank you that I'm not treated as your enemy because of my
sin, but as a lost sheep that needs to be found. Thank you for
adopting me as your beloved child. In Jesus' name I offer my thanks
and praise. Amen.
