---------------------------------------------------------------

VERSE:
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may
become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a
crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in
the universe.
-- Philippians 2:14-15

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+2:14-15

THOUGHT:
We shouldn't be surprised that unbelievers around us have a
different set of values than we do. After all, a star isn't
surprised to find that it shines in the great expanse of darkness
surrounding it. You see, a star and a disciple of Jesus share one
basic purpose: shining our light in the darkness, no matter how
great that darkness!

PRAYER:
Holy and righteous LORD, I can only anticipate the day I see
your glory and stand in your presence. Please give me the courage
and integrity to be a light to those around me overwhelmed by the
darkness. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Trust Jesus

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Trust Jesus
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10 NIV

You can put your trust in Jesus!

In the midst of a sometimes scary world, isn't it good to know we have Jesus? I remember several years ago when I was at a weak point in my life. It seemed like everything around me was collapsing. I was suffering financially and in my relationships. It often seemed like I had no friends; no one who I could really trust. This was in spite of the fact that I am a member of a loving church. I just couldn't find what I was looking for and needed in this world.

But, I found Jesus! Jesus was my Rock! He was the strength to get me through the dark days. When no one seemed to care, I would remember that He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. When I would feel inadequate, I would recall that His strength is perfect when mine is gone. When I couldn't see past the day's problems, I would call upon the ligh t unto my path. Jesus was always there!

I don't know what you are going through today. Perhaps I can't even identify with your type of heartache. But Jesus can! Jesus has never forsaken those who seek Him; and He is not about to start now.

Trust in Jesus today! Trust in your Rock!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Down the Dusty, Bumpy Road, by Phil Ware

Our bus shook and rattled and shimmied and clattered down the old dirt
road as we made our way out of Kampala to the countryside. Old, dried
clay from the road collected in layers on the homemade brick houses
with their rusting tin roofs. Toddlers wandered around playing, tops on
and diaperless, in the clouds of dust left by the traffic. We didn't
choose a lane, we just dodged the oncoming trucks, skooters, and
bicyclers on the road. We laughed and joked and shook and tried to stay
in our seats on our journey to a place we had never been.

Not all hard journeys over pot-holed roads lead to glorious places.
Ours led to a window into heaven: a place where the Kingdom of God made
a brief visit in all it's fullness. As we pulled to a stop, the dust
hadn't settled before the toddlers came tottering in their waddled run
to greet us. Our hearts were full of anticipation as we jostled our way
off the bus to be welcomed by peole whose lives are far different than
our own, in a place far away. But, we share in our differences, a
common faith in Jesus and an abiding hope that grace will ultimately
right all wrongs and break down any walls that separate us and the life
God wants to share.

Earlier in the morning, Shaun Groves had given a short devo on
the true nature of God's Kingdom and humility. He shared how the poor
are blessed to know they are dependent upon God and the rich are
blessed to be able to help the poor find daily bread. Somewhere in the
middle of our sharing of grace, our prayer, "Your Kingdom come, your
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven," gets answered. Our day was
a sliver of Kingdom experience. Although filled with visits in homes
that were smaller than most of our closets to mothers who had AIDS, but
who were trying to raise their small children with love and care, it
was also a day of great joy, friendship, hugs, play, food, song, and
celebration.

For several hours, the barriers or color, culture, distance, language,
life-style, social convention all melted away. Our pace of life slowed
down. We drank in the beauty of this far away place, the smiles
of the children, the generosity of those who have far less than we who
treated us like kings and queens, yet also like fellow school children
on the playground. None of us wanted it to end. Trying to get us back
on the bus, each of us surrounded by circles of kids, was a glorious
chore. One more hug. One more high five. Two more waves. Once again, a
toddler running up to hug your leg, offer shy smile, and a reluctant
good bye. The moms, whose circle of weaving mats and potholders was
full of smiles and waves and thank you's. Poverty and AIDS could not
win in a place so full of grace, even though we all knew it would leave
its mark upon each of these people.

Yes, for a long precious moment, we experienced Kingdom come.

As we clattered our way back down the dusty, pock-marked road, our
hearts were full of love and heads were full of the sounds of song —
the songs of children to the beat of an African drum pure and sweet,
and at full crescendo ... the songs of a group of women in African
harmonies singing and swaying to the beat of joy ... and to the songs
lead by one of America's best known worship leaders who had come to
Africa to lead us in this moment of shared grace. Yes, for a
long precious moment, we experienced Kingdom come. O how much sweeter
will be its full realization. I know now, because I have had a taste,
caught a glimpse, and can't wait for such a glory. But until then, I
choose to help make such moments happen in my life, and the lives of
children and their families, because God has blessed me so that I can.

If you haven't chosen to sponsor a child and be part of such a
celebration, please know, it costs one cup of coffee a day — just a
little over a dollar a day — to sponsor a child. As children told me
the names of their sponsors from the Netherlands, England, and the
U.S., the spoke of love, letters, and of joy. Yes, I'm shamelessly
asking you to join the team, choose a child, change forever ... and
know that somewhere, down a dusty road, a taste of heaven is happening
because of your love and God's grace.

To sponsor, please go to the following page:
http://www.compassion.com/sponsor_a_child/default.htm

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that
no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language,
standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were
wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."

All the angels were standing around the throne and around the
elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces
before the throne and worshiped God, saying: "Amen! Praise and
glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to
our God for ever and ever. Amen!" (Revelation 7:9-12 TNIV).

Morning & Evening -- 2 Kings 25:30 and Luke 8:47

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, February 14, 2008

MORNING:

"And his allowance was a continual allowance given him of the
king, a daily rate for every day, all the days of his life."
-- 2 Kings 25:30

Jehoiachin was not sent away from the king's palace with a store to
last him for months, but his provision was given him as a daily
pension. Herein he well pictures the happy position of all the Lord's
people. A daily portion is all that a man really wants. We do not need
tomorrow's supplies; that day has not yet dawned, and its wants are as
yet unborn. The thirst which we may suffer in the month of June does
not need to be quenched in February, for we do not feel it yet; if we
have enough for each day as the days arrive we shall never know want.
Sufficient for the day is all that we can enjoy. We cannot eat or drink
or wear more than the day's supply of food and raiment; the surplus
gives us the care of storing it, and the anxiety of watching against a
thief. One staff aids a traveller, but a bundle of staves is a heavy
burden. Enough is not only as good as a feast, but is all that the
greatest glutton can truly enjoy. This is all that we should expect; a
craving for more than this is ungrateful. When our Father does not give
us more, we should be content with his daily allowance. Jehoiachin's
case is ours, we have a sure portion, a portion given us of the king, a
gracious portion, and a perpetual portion. Here is surely ground for
thankfulness.

Beloved Christian reader, in matters of grace you need a daily supply.
You have no store of strength. Day by day must you seek help from
above. It is a very sweet assurance that a daily portion is provided
for you. In the word, through the ministry, by meditation, in prayer,
and waiting upon God you shall receive renewed strength. In Jesus all
needful things are laid up for you. Then enjoy your continual
allowance. Never go hungry while the daily bread of grace is on the
table of mercy.

EVENING:

"She was healed immediately."
-- Luke 8:47

One of the most touching and teaching of the Saviour's miracles is
before us to-night. The woman was very ignorant. She imagined that
virtue came out of Christ by a law of necessity, without his knowledge
or direct will. Moreover, she was a stranger to the generosity of
Jesus' character, or she would not have gone behind to steal the cure
which he was so ready to bestow. Misery should always place itself
right in the face of mercy. Had she known the love of Jesus' heart, she
would have said, "I have but to put myself where he can see me-his
omniscience will teach him my case, and his love at once will work my
cure." We admire her faith, but we marvel at her ignorance. After she
had obtained the cure, she rejoiced with trembling: glad was she that
the divine virtue had wrought a marvel in her; but she feared lest
Christ should retract the blessing, and put a negative upon the grant
of his grace: little did she comprehend the fulness of his love! We
have not so clear a view of him as we could wish; we know not the
heights and depths of his love; but we know of a surety that he is too
good to withdraw from a trembling soul the gift which it has been able
to obtain. But here is the marvel of it: little as was her knowledge,
her faith, because it was real faith, saved her, and saved her at once.
There was no tedious delay-faith's miracle was instantaneous. If we
have faith as a grain of mustard seed, salvation is our present and
eternal possession. If in the list of the Lord's children we are
written as the feeblest of the family, yet, being heirs through faith,
no power, human or devilish, can eject us from salvation. If we dare
not lean our heads upon his bosom with John, yet if we can venture in
the press behind him, and touch the hem of his garment, we are made
whole. Courage, timid one! thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
"Being justified by faith, we have peace with God."

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Discipline Of Heeding"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 14, 2008

THE DISCIPLINE OF HEEDING

What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and
what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the
housetops.

Matthew 10:27

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+10:27&sr=1

At times God puts us through the discipline of darkness to teach us
to heed Him. Song birds are taught to sing in the dark, and we are
put into the shadow of God's hand until we learn to hear Him. "What I
tell you in darkness" - watch where God puts you into darkness, and
when you are there keep your mouth shut. Are you in the dark just now
in your circumstances, or in your life with God? Then remain quiet.
If you open your mouth in the dark, you will talk in the wrong mood:
darkness is the time to listen. Don't talk to other people about it;
don't read books to find out the reason of the darkness, but listen
and heed. If you talk to other people, you cannot hear what God is
saying. When you are in the dark, listen, and God will give you a
very precious message for someone else when you get into the light.

After every time of darkness there comes a mixture of delight and
humiliation (if there is delight only, I question whether we have
heard God at all), delight in hearing God speak, but chiefly
humiliation - What a long time I was in hearing that! How slow I have
been in understanding that! And yet God has been saying it all these
days and weeks. Now He gives you the gift of humiliation which brings
the softness of heart that will always listen to God now.

Praying with Paul : "An Invited Guest"

AN INVITED GUEST

Romans 11:17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+11:17

Dear Father, king of banquets,

May I enter your halls wearing the appropriate garment, the
righteousness of Jesus Christ, not that of my own making. The false
righteousness of adherence to man-made rules is a worthless
covering. Only the true righteousness of belief in your Son will
make my appearance acceptable to you.

Grant me true humility. If I boast, let it be about you. Let my
pride be in what you have done for me, not in what I make of
myself.

In the name of Jesus, the honoree of the banquet, I offer thanks
for inviting me to your feast of good things. Amen.

WJD! -- Angry Eyes -- Mark 3:3-5

Angry Eyes

Jesus said to the man with the crippled hand, "Stand up here
so that all the people can see you." Then Jesus asked the
people, "Which thing is right to do on the Sabbath day: to do
good, or to do evil? Is it right to save a life or to destroy
one?" The people said nothing to answer Jesus. Jesus looked
at the people. He was angry. But he felt very sad because
they were stubborn. Jesus said to the man, "Let me see your
hand." The man put his hand out for Jesus, and it was healed.

-- Mark 3:3-5 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus becomes angry with his critics because they had lost the whole
sense of the Sabbath. Instead of making the Sabbath a day to bless and
refresh God's human creations, they had made it a day full of rules to
the point of harming people. Jesus is angry and disturbed because of
their hard hearts and their inability to see how they had perverted
something God had intended for good. When religion goes astray, when
what is called faith becomes a tool for hurting those whom God intends
to bless, then it must be confronted. That is precisely what Jesus
does!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father in Heaven, please never let my heart become hardened because of
my religious zeal. I want to be passionate in my faith, but I never
want to become so blind that I distort your will and end up hurting
those you want to bless. Keep my heart soft -- open to you and to those
whom you want me to touch with your grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
