God’s Complete Salvation (1)

God's Complete Salvation (1)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eph 1: 7 In whom we have redemption through His blood, the
forgiveness of offenses, according to the riches of His grace,
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that every one who believes into Him would not
perish, but would have eternal life.
2Cor 3:18 But we all with unveiled face, beholding and
reflecting like a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being
transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as
from the Lord Spirit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The full salvation of the Triune God comprises many items in
three stages. The first stage, the initial stage, is the stage
of regeneration. This stage is composed of redemption [the death
of Christ for the forgiveness of our sins], sanctification
[positional--being set apart for God's purpose], justification
[being made acceptable to God] , reconciliation, and
regeneration. In this stage, God has justified us through the
redemption of Christ (Rom. 3:24-26) and regenerated us in our
spirit with 41 His life by His Spirit (John 3:3-6). Thus, we
have received God's eternal salvation and His eternal life, and
become His children (John 1:12-13), who shall not perish forever
(John 10:28-29). This initial salvation has saved us from God's
condemnation and from eternal perdition (John 3:18, 16).

The second stage of salvation, the progressing stage, is the
stage of transformation. This stage is composed of freedom from
sin, sanctification (mainly dispositional-Rom. 6:19, 22), growth
in life, transformation, building up, and maturing. In this
stage, God is freeing us from the dominion of indwelling sin--
the law of sin and death--by the law of the Spirit of life,
through the effectiveness of the death of Christ working
subjectively in us (Rom. 6:6-7; 7:16-20; 8:2). He is sanctifying
us by His Holy Spirit (Rom. 15:16), with His holy nature,
through His discipline (Heb. 12:10) and His judgment in His own
house (1 Pet. 4:17). He is causing us to grow in His life (1
Cor. 3:6-7) and transforming us by renewing the inward parts of
our soul by the life-giving Spirit (2 Cor. 3:17-18; Rom. 12:2)
through the working of all things (Rom. 8:28). He is building us
together into a spiritual house for His dwelling (1 Pet. 2:5;
Eph. 2:22) and maturing us in His life (Rev. 14:15) for the
completion of His full salvation.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Church?, by Phil Ware

It is easily forgotten that the community of Christians is a gift
of grace from the kingdom of God, a gift that can be taken from us
any day -- that the time still separating us from the most profound
loneliness may be brief indeed. Therefore, let those who until now
have had the privilege of living a Christian life together with
other Christians praise God's grace from the bottom of their
hearts. Let them thank God on their knees and realize: it is grace,
nothing but grace, that we are still permitted to live in the
community of Christians today. (Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together.)

These words were penned seventy years ago as the world stood on the
doorstep of the Holocaust and Nazi Germany's assault on Europe.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer had returned to his home in Germany from the US to
lead the Confessing Church, and underground movement that lived out the
life of Jesus in the face of Nazism. He was eventually hung in a
hideous and torturous way to try to silence his voice. Nazi Germany
fell, but the writings and words of Bonhoeffer live today, inspiring
believers -- especially those under oppression -- all over the world.

Occasionally, I will be asked if I really believe it is important to
"go to church." The question is not from unbelievers. In fact, this
question is often asked by those passionately seeking to live for
Jesus. Some have been deeply hurt by church politics. Others have been
bored by church services. Some just see church as a waste of time.
Others see "going to church" as an outdated form of community that is
no longer needed in the computer age of social networking.

When asked about the importance of church, some who email me are
seeking biblical insights to their frustration with the modern
"churchland" experience -- mall churches where unknown hordes gather in
anonymity or religious institutions more concerned about political
agendas than about doing the work of Jesus. Some folks just want
validation that their abandonment of not "going to church" ever again:
they are fed up with what they see as corruption, hypocrisy, and
irrelevancy.

This is not an easy question to address for several reasons. Seemingly,
the Western expression of church has lost its way on many levels. Far
from being a place of community that practices radical forgiveness and
accountability as Jesus envisioned (Matthew 18:1-35), many forms of
modern church are not much better than the caricatures so often
criticized. Far from being a mission-driven community sharing God's
grace with all nations and a community of different people brought
together by the power of God's Spirit (the book of Acts), we seem to
have sunk into rival marketers of easy religion pedaled to
consumer-driven attendees or into rival politically aligned preservers
of our version of national values.

On the other hand, many are genuinely blessed by their association
today with what is called "church." They find support, help,
encouragement, and friendship. They can't understand why some would be
so critical of something they love. In addition, oppressed and
persecuted believers in other cultures cannot fathom having the freedom
to gather with other believers and not taking advantage of it. Meeting
in clandestine house churches in China or meeting openly with believers
in Africa knowing that their persecutors are watching and taking note
of them, these believers truly understand the words of Bonhoeffer, "...
it is grace, nothing but grace, that we are still permitted to live in
the community of Christians today."

So I'd like to share a few biblical observations into the discussion
for all of us to ponder and discuss -- yes, I'd like to hear from you
on my blog at this address:http://www.thephilfiles.com/2008/04/06/church-2/.

First, Jesus and the writers of the New Testament did not envision a
Christianity that does not involve Christian community. Jesus sent out
his followers two by two. He called together a small group of twelve to
be his first community. His primary teachings centered on relationships
and life lived together in community. While much of his teaching and
lifestyle brought him into conflict with religious leaders in religious
situations, his regular practice was to participate in those gatherings
to redeem them and restore them to their intended purpose. He didn't
abolish or abandon them. He even talked about building a gathering of
people around the confession, "You are the Christ, the Son of the
Living God" (Matthew 16:13-16).

Second, the term used overwhelming throughout the New Testament for
this community is the word our modern Bibles translate "church."
Unfortunately our well-intentioned use the word and popular definitions
of it -- like the "called out" or using the word to refer to a "church
building" -- distort the original meaning and use of the word. The word
itself, ekklesia, is not even a religious word. (Acts 19:32, for
example, where the word is used for an assembly of those who definitely
were not followers of Jesus.) It simply means "assembly" or "gathering"
of people. What makes it "Christian" is that the gathering is done in
"the name of the Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 1:1-2). When
believers gather in Jesus name, there is a very sense in which the Lord
is present among them with power (Matthew 18:20; 1 Corinthians 5:4).

Third, followers of Jesus are identified with this term "gathering" (or
"church") repeatedly through the New Testament. Rather than identifying
a theoretical group of people, this is an identity formed by being
brought into community together and meeting together (Acts 2:41-47;
Acts 20:7). Reading the letters of the New Testament
(Romans-Revelation), the first few verses of them reveal this focus,
using a formula like, "To the gathering of God's people in ..." (Romans
1:7; 1 Corinthians 1:2).This gathering together in Jesus' name was so
important that they were urged not to forsake their times of meeting
together, but to use these opportunities to stir each other up to love
and good deeds (Hebrews 10:19-25).

Fourth, this was to be a community that lived the lifestyle of Jesus
and called each other to that lifestyle all over the world in different
cultures (Matthew 28:18-20). Jesus called his followers to live by
Kingdom of God ethic found in his own teaching (Matthew 5:1-7:29) and
in his call for his followers to live in a community of accountability
and forgiveness (Matthew 18:1-35). This is reflected in the rest of the
New Testament's emphasis on how Jesus' followers are to live with "one
another" and treat "each other" in community. (See a partial list of
these passages by following the link below.) In fact, all of the New
Testament books following the book of Acts are not understandable
outside followers of Jesus gathering together to try to help each other
live the life of Jesus. Most are letters written to specific gatherings
(or "churches") of believers in Jesus.

"But I'd rather spend my time doing good for others and helping them in
their life than be stuck in some outmoded church service!"

The truth is, this isn't an either or choice. In fact, gathering
several folks who share your commitment to help others only increases
the reach of your good deeds and offers these people a place of
community and friendship where they can belong. So many in our lonely
society today need just a place of friendship and acceptance.

"But I love my church where I am just fine! What's the big deal,
anyway?"

If you are blessed by the contemporary expression of church, great!
Help your gathering of believers live out the call of Jesus and make
sure others are welcomed and loved into your group. But please,
understand that a whole generation is coming of age and many are not
finding a connection with what they see as the institutional church --
several studies suggest less than 4% of those 18-25 in the US are
connected to a "church" experience of any kind. Give them the
permission to search the Scriptures and try to faithfully express the
community of Jesus in ways that connect with their culture. I'm not
talking about a cosmetic re-do of modern church to make it more
consumer friendly, but a genuine passion to restore the life, vibrancy,
accountability, and community we see in the book of Acts.

You gather with other believers in some form.

"Aren't you afraid that even suggesting this will hurt our churches and
give our young people and others permission to abandon church all
together?"

People don't have to have permission to do this; folks are abandoning
the current expression of church in droves, already. (For a glimpse at
the hard realities of where things actually are, read the book
Unchristian.) We must remember that our goal is not putting people in
church buildings, but helping others find real community in the Kingdom
of God and submit to the Lordship of Jesus. Many will continue to be
blessed by the church culture we have experienced for the last several
hundred years. Others, however, are looking for a more intimate
gathering of people who are held accountable to each other and to the
Lord in community. They see the power of the house church movement in
places like China and Cuba, and long to experience what they see as
authentic community as they serve others in the name of Jesus. Others
are blessed to enjoy both expressions of church in their home
congregations. The key, I believe, is for all of us to keep praying,
"Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

"So what are you saying?"

I'm saying that I believe followers of Jesus are going to regularly
gather with other followers to help them live the life of Christ and
remember the life, words, sacrifice, and resurrection of their Lord,
together. That doesn't necessarily mean that you do the big church deal
that is a part of our Western culture of church. It does mean, however,
that you gather with other believers in some form to call each other to
be community where Jesus' character and compassion are lived.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Your turn!

Are you part of a regular church service, a house church, or do you not
go to church at all -- and why or why not?

What's your take on all of this?

What do you believe Jesus is calling us to do as his people in our
current culture?

Are you part of a regular church service, a house church, or do you not
go to church at all -- and why or why not?

I'd love to hear your feedback and see your discussion on my blog:

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 4:2 and Psalms 51:14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 7, 2008

MORNING:

"O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame?"
-- Psalms 4:2

An instructive writer has made a mournful list of the honours which the
blinded people of Israel awarded to their long expected King.

1. They gave him a procession of honour, in which Roman legionaries,
Jewish priests, men and women, took a part, he himself bearing his
cross. This is the triumph which the world awards to him who comes to
overthrow man's direst foes. Derisive shouts are his only acclamations,
and cruel taunts his only paeans of praise.

2. They presented him with the wine of honour. Instead of a golden cup
of generous wine they offered him the criminal's stupefying
death-draught, which he refused because he would preserve an uninjured
taste wherewith to taste of death; and afterwards when he cried, "I
thirst," they gave him vinegar mixed with gall, thrust to his mouth
upon a sponge. Oh! wretched, detestable inhospitality to the King's
Son.

3. He was provided with a guard of honour, who showed their esteem of
him by gambling over his garments, which they had seized as their
booty. Such was the body-guard of the adored of heaven; a quaternion of
brutal gamblers.

4. A throne of honour was found for him upon the bloody tree; no easier
place of rest would rebel men yield to their liege Lord. The cross was,
in fact, the full expression of the world's feeling towards him;
"There," they seemed to say, "thou Son of God, this is the manner in
which God himself should be treated, could we reach him."

5. The title of honour was nominally "King of the Jews," but that the
blinded nation distinctly repudiated, and really called him "King of
thieves," by preferring Barabbas, and by placing Jesus in the place of
highest shame between two thieves. His glory was thus in all things
turned into shame by the sons of men, but it shall yet gladden the eyes
of saints and angels, world without end.

EVENING:

"Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my
salvation; and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy
righteousness."
-- Psalms 51:14

In this SOLEMN CONFESSION, it is pleasing to observe that David plainly
names his sin. He does not call it manslaughter, nor speak of it as an
imprudence by which an unfortunate accident occurred to a worthy man,
but he calls it by its true name, bloodguiltiness. He did not actually
kill the husband of Bathsheba; but still it was planned in David's
heart that Uriah should be slain, and he was before the Lord his
murderer. Learn in confession to be honest with God. Do not give fair
names to foul sins; call them what you will, they will smell no
sweeter. What God sees them to be, that do you labour to feel them to
be; and with all openness of heart acknowledge their real character.
Observe, that David was evidently oppressed with the heinousness of his
sin. It is easy to use words, but it is difficult to feel their
meaning. The fifty-first Psalm is the photograph of a contrite spirit.
Let us seek after the like brokenness of heart; for however excellent
our words may be, if our heart is not conscious of the
hell-deservingness of sin, we cannot expect to find forgiveness.

Our text has in it AN EARNEST PRAYER-it is addressed to the God of
salvation. It is his prerogative to forgive; it is his very name and
office to save those who seek his face. Better still, the text calls
him the God of my salvation. Yes, blessed be his name, while I am yet
going to him through Jesus' blood, I can rejoice in the God of my
salvation.

The psalmist ends with A COMMENDABLE VOW: if God will deliver him he
will sing-nay, more, he will "sing aloud." Who can sing in any other
style of such a mercy as this! But note the subject of the song-"THY
RIGHTEOUSNESS." We must sing of the finished work of a precious
Saviour; and he who knows most of forgiving love will sing the loudest.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Why Are We Not Told Plainly?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 7, 2008

WHY ARE WE NOT TOLD PLAINLY?

He charged them that they should tell no man what things
they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the
dead.

Mark 9:9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mr+9:9&sr=1

Say nothing until the Son of man is risen in you - until the life of
the risen Christ so dominates you that you understand what the
historic Christ taught. When you get to the right state on the
inside, the word which Jesus has spoken is so plain that you are
amazed you did not see it before. You could not understand it before,
you were not in the place in disposition where it could be borne.

Our Lord does not hide these things; they are unbearable until we get
into a fit condition of spiritual life. "I have yet many things to
say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now." There must be communion
with His risen life before a particular word can be borne by us. Do
we know anything about the impartation of the risen life of Jesus?
The evidence that we do is that His word is becoming interpretable to
us. God cannot reveal anything to us if we have not His Spirit. An
obstinate outlook will effectually hinder God from revealing anything
to us. If we have made up our minds about a doctrine, the light of
God will come no more to us on that line, we cannot get it. This
obtuse stage will end immediately [when] His resurrection life has
its way with us.

"Tell no man . . " - so many do tell what they saw on the mount of
transfiguration. They have had the vision and they testify to it, but
the life does not tally with it, the Son of man is not yet risen in
them. I wonder when He is going to be formed in you and in me?

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Stretching One

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Stretching One
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:1-2 NIV

Ive been thinking a lot lately about spirituality. Actually thats something I think about a lot all the time, but lately my thoughts have centered more about the lack of spirituality than the presence of spirituality. As a church planter who tries to stay in touch with the culture so I can reach people in it, I am finding that the culture is changing fast and Im not sure the church is keeping pace.

Before you throw stones my way, I realize that the Word of God never changes. Truth is not relative. The things of God are not true for one person and false for another. Gods truth is truth; whether or not its accepted as being so. What Im referring to is the way the church reaches an ever-changing culture. Im not sure we are keeping up with that change as fast as it is changing.

Growing up in a very conservative, church-going, Bible-believing family in the middle of the Bible belt, I am realizing (Im in my mid-forties; its about time!) that I may have lived a somewhat sheltered existence. Everything around me, usually by choice, has a Christian basis. Its a comforting environment. I love fellow believers, but Im finding it makes it hard to reach people I never encounter.

God is stretching me out of my comfort zone. I suspect there are some people He wants me to meet who dont have my Christian understanding. Cool point: Im finding I can actually like them also!

Praying with Paul : "Contentment"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

CONTENTMENT

1 Corinthians 7:25-35

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+7:25-35

Dear Father, head of our one enduring spiritual family,

Thank you that you have not left us uninformed in matters of
family relations. Thank you for the apostle Paul's instructions,
which tell us to be holy in body and spirit and to give ourselves
up to please you. Help me, Father, to do that.

May we be content in the situations in which you have placed us.
May those of us with spouses live, in a sense, as if we had none.
May those of us who mourn over lost loved ones, in a sense, not
mourn at all. May those of us who rejoice, in a sense, not be so
joyful. May those of us who buy and sell, in a sense, act as if we
have no goods. May those of us who deal with the world, in a sense,
act as if we have no dealings with the world at all.

What does it all mean? This world and the form of it are passing
away, so free me from all anxiety! There is no answer apart from
knowing that you are in control and will bring to pass your good
pleasure.

Grant us rest in you! In the name of Jesus I lift up this prayer
to you. Amen.

WJD! -- Refusing to Believe -- Mark 6:1-3

Refusing to Believe

Jesus left there and went back to his home town. His
followers went with him. On the Sabbath day Jesus taught in
the synagogue. Many people heard him teach and were amazed.
These people said, "Where did this man get this teaching? How
did he get this wisdom? Who gave it to him? And where did he
get the power to do miracles? {Surely, not from God!} He is
only the carpenter. And his mother is Mary. He is the brother
of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters are here
with us." The people did not accept Jesus.

-- Mark 6:1-3 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
"He's just ..." There wasn't anything about Jesus' early life that
attracted the attention and fascination of his fellow townspeople. They
expected nothing great of him. He was just another kid from their town.
They knew his family and they expected no great thing out of him. So
they were offended by actions that captured the hearts of other people
and they refused to believe what so many called compelling evidence of
his divinity. Despite thousands of years of witnesses, the faith of
many in the scientific community, and the testimony of close friends,
many today refuse to believe. For some, the problem is pride. For
others, it is a lifestyle they don't want to change. For others, it is
a lack of interest. For others, there are some intellectual hangups.
But underneath it all, there is a refusal to believe ... a refusal to
seek after something that they can't identify or analyze with empirical
investigation. So which are you, one who refuses to believe and denies
faith or one who seeks after truth and finds faith?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Holy and compassionate Father, stir my heart to seek after you. I
want to know truth ... physical truth and spiritual truth. Correct me
in my wrong-headedness and beckon me in my truth-seeking. I ask this in
Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 7, 2008

VERSE:
For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but
God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
-- 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Thessalonians+4:7-8

THOUGHT:
The call to holiness is easy to ignore in a world which lives by
much different standards. Satan gets us to compare our lifestyle
with those around us, deluding us into devaluing our sins in
comparison to others. But the issue is not comparison shopping our
sin; the issue is a thankful heart that has been cleansed by the
Holy Spirit and saved by grace. Ignoring, or toning down, the
Spirit's call for holiness is rejecting God. Let's be passionate
about holiness in our lives, both because it is what God wants and
also because it is what we should seek.

PRAYER:
Father, forgive me for trying to water down the significance of
my sin. Use your Spirit to kindle in me a passion for holiness and
please empower me to live in a way which honors you for all that
you have done to save me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
