December 27, 2007

VERSE:
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will
also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the
harvest of your righteousness.
-- 2 Corinthians 9:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+9:10

THOUGHT:
God has blessed us so much in Jesus. Yet God longs to bless us
even more. Why? God longs to bless us because ... he is a generous
God ... because he is our loving Father ... because that is his
nature ... because he wants us to be like him! God blesses us to be
a blessing to others!

PRAYER:
You have so richly blessed me, LORD, so please help me see the
opportunities you build into each day for me to bless others. Make
me a conduit of your blessings. I pray this in the name of Jesus
Christ my Lord. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Nativity 8

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her. Luke 1:38 NIV

Mary was a great mother!

We saw yesterday that Joseph was first a foremost called to be a great dad. When we consider Mary we must recognize a similar fact. When God considered who would mother His son, He chose Mary. Obviously, the Creator of "motherhood" saw something in Mary He could use.

Mothers are great, aren't they? I am blessed with a mother who loves unconditionally, always supports me, and is available to help me at a moments notice. God did a great job for me in picking my mother.

Think of the thought He must have placed into choosing Mary. Mary would nurture Jesus. Perhaps some of Christ's compassion came from His mother. When Jesus wept because the sisters were mourning after the death of Lazarus, perhaps it was His mother Mary who inspired Him to care for His friends so much.

Mary had a simple faith. She obeyed rather than doubting. When the angel said she would have a child, she wanted to know how because she was a virgin. She never questioned whether it would take place. This humble servant was more than willing to put aside her wedding plans, face public humiliation, possibly death, and allow God's will to be done.

God is still looking for mothers like Mary today. Each time you see Mary in the nativity scene, remember the mother she was, the mother you are, and/or the mother God gave you.

When you consider the role of Mary in the Christmas story, Christmas becomes a great time to think of mothers!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Away in a Manger, by Tim Archer

Away in a manger

For many of us, that's where Jesus is. A cute little baby lying in a
manger. He's smiling and cooing and generally looking harmless. He
fills us with good feelings, as healthy, beautiful babies do. We never
hear a whimper, never a cry. He's the perfect baby.

Away in a manger

It's convenient to leave Jesus there. A harmless baby, making no
demands on us. We don't even have to change His diaper. We can go about
our lives without thinking of Him, then return to the stable to find
that happy, smiling baby.

Away in a manger

Part of a nativity scene to be pulled out once a year. Almost lost
among the sheep and cattle and shepherds and wise men and angels. A
tiny piece in a larger set, all wrapped up in tissue paper and stored
away at season's end. Placed in a box next to Santa and his elves,
right under the Christmas lights and tree decorations.

Away in a manger

Away from me. Away from the real world. Tucked away, stored away. That
tiny baby is part of another time, another reality. A figure from
history, maybe, or maybe just a part of a legend that men have passed
on for hundreds of years. Either way, that tiny baby just doesn't seem
to fit in the harsh realities of the twenty-first century.

Away in a manger

If that's your view of Jesus, I want to encourage you to take a look at
what the Bible says about Him. His birth is a tiny part of the story of
Jesus, so small in fact that it goes unmentioned in two of the four
gospels. That manger is overshadowed in the Bible by a cross, dwarfed
by the reality of an empty tomb. Jesus didn't come to earth to be a
cute baby. He came to give His life on a cross. His whole life centered
around that. Having given His life, He was placed in a tomb, laid on a
stone slab not unlike the stone manger where He was first placed. But,
just as He left that manger years before, He left the tomb behind as
well, coming forth as the conquering Lord of Lords, defeating death in
one mighty act of triumph.

Away in a manger? Is that where Jesus is for you?

Away in a manger? Hardly. The risen Lord sits at the right hand of God,
offering life and victory to all who would follow Him. Now that
December 25 has passed, go ahead and pack away that little baby boy.
But don't think that you've left the Lord Jesus lying in a manger. He's
left it far behind.

The risen Lord offers life and peace and hope to all who would come to
Him. Contact me at tim@hopeforlife.org to know more. Or visit our blog

Morning & Evening -- 1 Corinthians 15:45 and Matthew 28:20

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 26, 2007

MORNING:

"The last Adam."
-- 1 Corinthians 15:45

Jesus is the federal head of his elect. As in Adam, every heir of flesh
and blood has a personal interest, because he is the covenant head and
representative of the race as considered under the law of works; so
under the law of grace, every redeemed soul is one with the Lord from
heaven, since he is the Second Adam, the Sponsor and Substitute of the
elect in the new covenant of love. The apostle Paul declares that Levi
was in the loins of Abraham when Melchizedek met him: it is a certain
truth that the believer was in the loins of Jesus Christ, the Mediator,
when in old eternity the covenant settlements of grace were decreed,
ratified, and made sure for ever. Thus, whatever Christ hath done, he
hath wrought for the whole body of his Church. We were crucified in him
and buried with him (read Col. 2:10-13), and to make it still more
wonderful, we are risen with him and even ascended with him to the
seats on high (Eph. 2:6). It is thus that the Church has fulfilled the
law, and is "accepted in the beloved." It is thus that she is regarded
with complacency by the just Jehovah, for he views her in Jesus, and
does not look upon her as separate from her covenant head. As the
Anointed Redeemer of Israel, Christ Jesus has nothing distinct from his
Church, but all that he has he holds for her. Adam's righteousness was
ours so long as he maintained it, and his sin was ours the moment that
he committed it; and in the same manner, all that the Second Adam is or
does, is ours as well as his, seeing that he is our representative.
Here is the foundation of the covenant of grace. This gracious system
of representation and substitution, which moved Justin Martyr to cry
out, "O blessed change, O sweet permutation!" this is the very
groundwork of the gospel of our salvation, and is to be received with
strong faith and rapturous joy.

EVENING:

"Lo, I am with you alway."
-- Matthew 28:20

The Lord Jesus is in the midst of his church; he walketh among the
golden candlesticks; his promise is, "Lo, I am with you alway." He is
as surely with us now as he was with the disciples at the lake, when
they saw coals of fire, and fish laid thereon and bread. Not carnally,
but still in real truth, Jesus is with us. And a blessed truth it is,
for where Jesus is, love becomes inflamed. Of all the things in the
world that can set the heart burning, there is nothing like the
presence of Jesus! A glimpse of him so overcomes us, that we are ready
to say, "Turn away thine eyes from me, for they have overcome me." Even
the smell of the aloes, and the myrrh, and the cassia, which drop from
his perfumed garments, causes the sick and the faint to grow strong.
Let there be but a moment's leaning of the head upon that gracious
bosom, and a reception of his divine love into our poor cold hearts,
and we are cold no longer, but glow like seraphs, equal to every
labour, and capable of every suffering. If we know that Jesus is with
us, every power will be developed, and every grace will be
strengthened, and we shall cast ourselves into the Lord's service with
heart, and soul, and strength; therefore is the presence of Christ to
be desired above all things. His presence will be most realized by
those who are most like him. If you desire to see Christ, you must grow
in conformity to him. Bring yourself, by the power of the Spirit, into
union with Christ's desires, and motives, and plans of action, and you
are likely to be favoured with his company. Remember his presence may
be had. His promise is as true as ever. He delights to be with us. If
he doth not come, it is because we hinder him by our indifference. He
will reveal himself to our earnest prayers, and graciously suffer
himself to be detained by our entreaties, and by our tears, for these
are the golden chains which bind Jesus to his people.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Placed In The Light"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 26, 2007

PLACED IN THE LIGHT

If we walk in the light, as He is in the light the blood
of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1 John 1:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1jo+1:7&sr=1

To mistake conscious freedom from sin for deliverance from sin by the
Atonement is a great error. No man knows what sin is until he is born
again. Sin is what Jesus Christ faced on Calvary. The evidence that I
am delivered from sin is that I know the real nature of sin in me. It
takes the last reach of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, that is, the
impartation of His absolute perfection, to make a man know what sin
is.

The Holy Spirit applies the Atonement to us in the unconscious realm
as well as in the realm of which we are conscious, and it is only
when we get a grasp of the unrivalled power of the Spirit in us that
we understand the meaning of 1 John 1:7, "the blood of Jesus Christ
cleanseth us from all sin." This does not refer to conscious sin
only, but to the tremendously profound understanding of sin which
only the Holy Ghost in me realizes.

If I walk in the light as God is in the light, not in the light of my
conscience, but in the light of God - if I walk there, with nothing
folded up, then there comes the amazing revelation, the blood of
Jesus Christ cleanses me from all sin so that God Almighty can see
nothing to censure in me. In my consciousness it works with a keen
poignant knowledge of what sin is. The love of God at work in me
makes me hate with the hatred of the Holy Ghost all that is not in
keeping with God's holiness. To walk in the light means that
everything that is of the darkness drives me closer into the centre
of the light.

RELATIONSHIPS

Colossians 3:18-4:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+3:18-4:1

Dear Father,

May Christian wives and husbands relate to each other as is
fitting in the Lord, with subjection and kindness.

May children obey their parents and may parents not provoke the
children.

May we work at our jobs in ways which will put honoring you above
trying to please someone.

Whatever our tasks, help us to work heartily, serving you.

Help us all to treat each other fairly in all our relationships.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

Then They Remembered!

Very early Sunday morning, the women came to the tomb (grave)
where Jesus' body was laid. They brought the sweet-smelling
spices they had prepared. {A heavy stone had been put in the
doorway to close the tomb.} But the women found that the
stone was rolled away. They went in, but they did not find
the Lord Jesus' body. The women did not understand this.
While they were wondering about it, two men (angels) in
shining clothes stood beside them. The women were very
afraid; they bowed their heads down. The two men said to the
women, "Why are you looking for a living person here? This is
a place for dead people! Jesus is not here. He has risen from
death! Do you remember what he said in Galilee? Jesus said
that the Son of Man must be given to evil men, be killed on a
cross, and rise from death on the third day." Then the women
remembered the things that Jesus said.

-- Luke 24:1-8 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Don't you just love "the women" and their example of faithfulness?
Their faithful commitment to the Lord enables them to discover God's
incredible miracle with Jesus -- they are the first to learn of his
resurrection! However, the most powerful insight in this passage to me
is the simple sentence at the end: "Then they remembered that he had
said this." Jesus' resurrection changes everything. One of the most
important areas of change, however, was in the memory of his most
faithful disciples. After the resurrection, things Jesus had said in
his ministry come flooding back into their minds with understanding,
excitement, and conviction. Promises that seemed obscure are suddenly
made clear. Prophetic words that seemed undiscoverable are uncovered
and seen in their full glory. Their insight is to be our insight as
well. All of Jesus' ministry, his healing and his teaching, can now be
more fully understood on this side of the resurrection. As we conclude
this year's journey through the Gospel of Luke, let's be reminded that
Jesus' actions and words are validated and empowered by the
resurrection.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, as I study your Son's life on earth, please never let me forget
that he died for my sins and was raised back to life with power. Help
me feel the conviction that his promises are true, his teaching is
proven, and his service is worth my emulation because it is
demonstrated to be the way of life. In Jesus' name I ask this. Amen.
