Whom Having not Seen, We Love

Whom Having not Seen, We Love

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1Pet 1:7 So that the proving of your faith, much more precious
than of gold which perishes though it is proved by fire, may be
found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus
Christ; 8 Whom having not seen, you love; into whom though not
seeing Him at present, yet believing, you exult with joy that is
unspeakable and full of glory,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Referring to the Lord Jesus, Peter goes on to say in verse 8,
"Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, not seeing at present
yet believing, you exult with unspeakable and glorified joy." It
is a wonder and a mystery that the believers love One whom they
have not seen. The phrase "in whom" modifies believing. We love
Him whom we have not seen because of believing, because of the
very faith which has been infused into us through hearing the
living word (Gal. 3:2). Hence, this faith is under the testing,
the proving, in verse 7.

According to verse 8, the believers "exult with unspeakable and
glorified joy." Glorified joy is joy immersed in glory; hence,
it is full of glory, that is, full of the Lord expressed.

The King James Version adopts the rendering "joy unspeakable and
full of glory." We also have a song in our hymnal that says, "It
is joy unspeakable and full of glory" (Hymns, #1153). Actually,
Peter does not mean that we are full of glory. On the contrary,
he speaks of a glorified joy. We exult with a joy that is
immersed in glory. This joy is immersed in the Lord as glory;
thus, it is full of the expression of the Lord.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Irreconcilable Differences, by Warren Baldwin

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21
NIV).

Couples seeking a divorce often list "irreconcilable differences" as
their reason for dissolving their marriage. They have issues between
them that they feel cannot be resolved; therefore, they seek a
permanent separation.

What are some of these "irreconcilable differences"?

Sometimes the issues are trivial. It is not uncommon for some people to
fight and split over issues of not getting to buy all the personal
items they want, such as clothing or cars. I actually read about a
couple divorcing because they cheered for different football teams.

Usually the issues are more serious. One of the partners might have an
addiction that is disrupting the marriage and family. One might be a
big spender and drives the family into debt. One partner might be very
aggressive, intimidating the more subdued partner. Sometimes one of the
spouses is very critical of the other spouse, making him or her feel
devalued and unappreciated. These problems that seem irreconcilable are
pretty serious, and frequently hurt the feelings or self esteem of the
other partner.

What does it mean that the problems are irreconcilable? It means that
the couple has, presumably, worked on the problems, but has not been
able to achieve any kind of resolution. Talking to each other, visiting
with church leaders, prayer, and even counseling have not stopped the
offending behavior. One party in the marriage continues to practice
their addiction, spend carelessly, be overly aggressive, criticize too
much or whatever the "differences" are. What is a couple to do?

Seek to place God first and respect each other.

At this point, some couples divorce. In fairness to people who profess
irreconcilable differences, some of these people have suffered greatly.
They have genuinely tried to work on their problems. They have taken
inventory of their own lives and contributions to their marital
problems, talked to their spouses, read books and sought help from
professionals. Still the problems persist. What else can they do?
Divorce seems to be a reasonable option.

But consider two things. One, every marriage has irreconcilable
differences. Every couple I have ever spoken to admits to having some
issues that they just can't resolve to the satisfaction of both
parties. They learn to accept the other person, they live with the
inconvenience of their differences, they even learn to change their
expectations so the intensity of the differences lessens. Think about
it: don't you have differences with nearly every significant person in
your life? Why should marriage be any different?

Secondly, no matter how stressful the differences are, God wants us to
hold our marriages together. About marriage Jesus said, "... The two
will become one flesh. So, they are no longer two, but one. Therefore,
what God has joined together, let man not separate" (Matthew 19:6). In
many marriages, a man and woman find a way to overcome, overlook, or
even rise above their irreconcilable differences. They create a union
that becomes bigger than their personal choices and desires. They live
for their partner. They stay together.*

I've seen too many husbands and wives walk away from each other because
of differences they did not believe they could survive. Yet, millions
of other couples survive those same difficulties and end up building
strong homes. When couples divorce, then remarry, they often find that
the same problems they fled in their previous marriage existing in
their next one. Differences are impossible to avoid because they are
the stuff of life! The best suggestion for a couple struggling with
irreconcilable differences, the biblical call, is to stay in your
marriage and continue to work on it. I'm simply asking that we
encourage folks to seek God and stay together if at all possible. It
won't be easy, but if you BOTH seek to place God first and respect each
other, the Lord will somehow see you through and will bless your
commitment and covenant.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

* Let me point out that physical or emotional abuse is in another
category than differences. There are laws to protect people from abuse,
even husbands and wives from each other. Even in cases of abuse,
though, I've known of couples getting counseling and working their
marriages out. [Editor's Note: We encourage couples that are impacted
by one of the three A's -- Abuse, Addiction, and Adultery -- to seek
help of an experienced Christian counselor to help them deal safely and
redemptively with the serious situations they face.]

Morning & Evening -- Song of Solomon 1:13 and Leviticus 1:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, April 13, 2008

MORNING:

"A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me."
-- Song of Solomon 1:13

Myrrh may well be chosen as the type of Jesus on account of its
preciousness, its perfume, its pleasantness, its healing, preserving,
disinfecting qualities, and its connection with sacrifice. But why is
he compared to "a bundle of myrrh"? First, for plenty. He is not a drop
of it, he is a casket full. He is not a sprig or flower of it, but a
whole bundle. There is enough in Christ for all my necessities; let me
not be slow to avail myself of him. Our well-beloved is compared to a
"bundle" again, for variety: for there is in Christ not only the one
thing needful, but in "him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead
bodily," everything needful is in him. Take Jesus in his different
characters, and you will see a marvellous variety-Prophet, Priest,
King, Husband, Friend, Shepherd. Consider him in his life, death,
resurrection, ascension, second advent; view him in his virtue,
gentleness, courage, self-denial, love, faithfulness, truth,
righteousness-everywhere he is a bundle of preciousness. He is a
"bundle of myrrh" for preservation-not loose myrrh to be dropped on the
floor or trodden on, but myrrh tied up, myrrh to be stored in a casket.
We must value him as our best treasure; we must prize his words and his
ordinances; and we must keep our thoughts of him and knowledge of him
as under lock and key, lest the devil should steal anything from us.
Moreover, Jesus is a "bundle of myrrh" for speciality. The emblem
suggests the idea of distinguishing, discriminating grace. From before
the foundation of the world, he was set apart for his people; and he
gives forth his perfume only to those who understand how to enter into
communion with him, to have close dealings with him. Oh! blessed people
whom the Lord hath admitted into his secrets, and for whom he sets
himself apart. Oh! choice and happy who are thus made to say, "A bundle
of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me."

EVENING:

"And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt-
offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement
for him."
-- Leviticus 1:4

Our Lord's being made "sin for us" is set forth here by the very
significant transfer of sin to the bullock, which was made by the
elders of the people. The laying of the hand was not a mere touch of
contact, for in some other places of Scripture the original word has
the meaning of leaning heavily, as in the expression, "thy wrath lieth
hard upon me" (Psalm 88:7). Surely this is the very essence and nature
of faith, which doth not only bring us into contact with the great
Substitute, but teaches us to lean upon him with all the burden of our
guilt. Jehovah made to meet upon the head of the Substitute all the
offences of his covenant people, but each one of the chosen is brought
personally to ratify this solemn covenant act, when by grace he is
enabled by faith to lay his hand upon the head of the "Lamb slain from
before the foundation of the world." Believer, do you remember that
rapturous day when you first realized pardon through Jesus the
sin-bearer? Can you not make glad confession, and join with the writer
in saying, "My soul recalls her day of deliverance with delight. Laden
with guilt and full of fears, I saw my Saviour as my Substitute, and I
laid my hand upon him; oh! how timidly at first, but courage grew and
confidence was confirmed until I leaned my soul entirely upon him; and
now it is my unceasing joy to know that my sins are no longer imputed
to me, but laid on him, and like the debts of the wounded traveller,
Jesus, like the good Samaritan, has said of all my future sinfulness,
'Set that to my account.'" Blessed discovery! Eternal solace of a
grateful heart!

"My numerous sins transferr'd to him,
Shall never more be found,
Lost in his blood's atoning stream,
Where every crime is drown'd!"

My Utmost For His Highest : "What To Do Under The Conditions"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 13, 2008

WHAT TO DO UNDER THE CONDITIONS

Cast thy burden upon the Lord.

Psalms 55:22

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ps+55:22&sr=1

We must distinguish between the burden-bearing that is right and the
burden-bearing that is wrong. We ought never to bear the burden of
sin or of doubt, but there are burdens placed on us by God which He
does not intend to lift off, He wants us to roll them back on Him.
"Cast that He hath given thee upon the Lord." (R.V. marg.) If we
undertake work for God and get out of touch with Him, the sense of
responsibility will be overwhelmingly crushing; but if we roll back
on God that which He has put upon us, He takes away the sense of
responsibility by bringing in the realization of Himself.

Many workers have gone out with high courage and fine impulses, but
with no intimate fellowship with Jesus Christ, and before long they
are crushed. They do not know what to do with the burden, it produces
weariness, and people say - "What an embittered end to such a
beginning!"

"Roll thy burden upon the Lord" - you have been bearing it all;
deliberately put one end on the shoulders of God. "The government
shall be upon His shoulder." Commit to God "that He hath given thee";
not fling it off, but put it over on to Him and yourself with it, and
the burden is lightened by the sense of companionship. Never
disassociate yourself from the burden.

EXERCISING SELF-CONTROL

1 Corinthians 9:24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+9:24

Dear Father,

Help me to compete like a runner aspiring for an Olympic gold
medal. Help me to exercise discipline and self-control in all
things that I may receive the imperishable victory wreath.

Help me not to run aimlessly or to box as one sparring against the
air. Give me the grit to pommel my body, to bring it under
subjection, lest after having shared the Good News with others I
myself should be disqualified.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Shameful

Then the right time came for Herodias to cause John's death.
It happened on Herod's birthday. Herod gave a dinner party
for the most important government leaders, the commanders of
his army, and the most important people in Galilee. The
daughter of Herodias came to the party and danced. When she
danced, Herod and the people eating with him were very
pleased. So King Herod said to the girl, "I will give you
anything you want." Herod promised her, "Anything you ask for
I will give to you. I will even give you half of my kingdom."
The girl went to her mother and asked, "What should I ask
King Herod to give me?" Her mother answered, "Ask for the
head of John the Baptizer." Quickly the girl went back in to
the king. The girl said to the king, "Please give me the head
of John the Baptizer. Bring it to me now on a plate." King
Herod was very sad. But he had promised to give the girl
anything she wanted. And the people eating there with Herod
heard his promise. So Herod did not want to refuse the thing
she asked for.

-- Mark 6:21-26 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
This horrible story is a reminder that God's people have often faced
direct opposition from those in power. Proclaiming truth does not
always lead to pleasant short-term results for God's truth-telling
people. John loses his life because of the unscrupulous desires of an
immoral Herodias and the political cowardice of Herod -- who added
incest to his adultery by taking Herodias (his half-brother's wife and
the daughter of another half-brother) as his own wife. Shamefulness and
blatant sin hates truth-telling and will do whatever is necessary to
hide the truth, including killing the truth-teller. So we shouldn't be
surprised in our day when the truth is not desired and is often opposed
by those who choose the way of immorality. Let's pray for
truth-tellers! Let's ask God to make their influence felt and their
lives not to be lived in vain!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O God, please protect and empower your truth-tellers. Make their voices
effective. Keep their political enemies from silencing them. When their
ministry is complete, please bring them home to you with great joy. In
Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Philippians 4:13

\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 13, 2008

VERSE:
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
-- Philippians 4:13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+4:13

THOUGHT:
I don't know about you, but I know I've grown soft and spoiled
because of all the conveniences that I have allowed into my life.
Could I honor God with my praises and thanksgivings if these
conveniences were to suddenly vanish? I hope so. I want to be like
Paul and live with the assurance that I can withstand any situation
with the help of Christ.

PRAYER:
O God, without you my strength would fade and my confidence
would fail. Thankfully I will never have to worry about this
because your grace, your Spirit, and your Son will strengthen me
and help me weather any storm. Thank you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
