For the power Thou hast given me to lay hold of things unseen:
For the strong sense I have that this is not my home:
For my restless heart which nothing finite can satisfy: I give
Thee thanks, O God. For the invasion of my soul by Thy Holy
Spirit: For all human love and goodness that speak to me of
Thee: For the fullness of Thy glory outpoured in Jesus Christ: I
give Thee thanks, O God.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Navigating by GPS, by Lisa Mikitarian

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own
understanding (Proverbs 3:5 NIV).

Recently my son, Spencer, asked me to help him prepare for a psychology
mid-term. Of course I said, "Yes." I have learned that a little
psychology in the hands of a minor is a dangerous thing. He would be
tested on several important studies in psychology including one called,
"Are You the Master of Your Fate?" This study contrasted external
verses internal driving forces of behavior.

According to the study, when people believed their lives were
controlled by luck, fate, or "powerful others," they acted from
external controls and tended to live reckless lives because they didn't
believe their own actions mattered. On the other hand, when people
believed their own behavior and decisions were directly responsible for
consequences, they operated from internal controls.

People who operated from internal controls exhibited less risky
behavior, less self-pity, and were generally regarded as healthier and
more stable. According to this study, it is better to be the master of
your own fate.

When Spencer and I reached this point in the review, I asked, "What
about God? Is He lumped in with fate, luck, and 'powerful others' (aka:
tyrants)?"

As a mother of a teenager, I want my son to develop internal controls
and exhibit sound decision-making skills. I want him to know that the
choices he makes will impact him directly.

The question was on whom he would rely

As a follower of Christ, the way this study was framed presented a
problem. My husband and I are teaching our son to rely on God's word
and will in directing his life. This study seemed to say either you
believed you were in control (good), or someone else was in control
(bad), because when someone else was in control you didn't believe in
your ability to influence cause and effect.

Spencer said, "So we're a bunch of unhealthy risk-takers." "Ha, ha --
good one," I answered, scanning the entire chapter -- including the
parts not being tested and therefore unread by my practical son. There
I found it. At the very end of the chapter, I found another example of
science supporting the reality of God.

It seemed that I was not the only person to question this study. Many
participants asked, "What about God?" So another study was conducted --
this time concentrating on people who specified God as their "powerful
other." The results of this study showed people of faith were just as
stable and psychologically healthy as those with an internal locus of
control.

This is when I had the bigger "ah ha" moment. Something was still
missing in the premise of the second study, namely: the specific nature
of Jesus Christ, who once accepted, resides within us. So in addition
to being around us and over us, He resides within us -- making Him both
the internal and external locus of control for our behavior. I wonder
what a properly framed study would show.

This was a classic example of how faulty or incomplete logic in the
academic arena could erode a young person's faith. I told my son he was
the "car's" driver; he had the God-given power to make decisions in
getting to where he was supposed to go. The question was on whom he
would rely when making navigational decisions. He could rely on
himself, faulty maps, and his friends' misconceptions (bad), or he
could rely on his Godly Positioning System (GPS), which was a
completely accurate and objective truth (good). I received the eye roll
my analogy deserved.

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the
majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is
yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over
all (1 Chronicles 29:11).

Morning & Evening -- Song of Solomon 5:16 and John 15:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, March 9, 2008

MORNING:

"Yea, he is altogether lovely."
-- Song of Solomon 5:16

The superlative beauty of Jesus is all-attracting; it is not so much to
be admired as to be loved. He is more than pleasant and fair, he is
lovely. Surely the people of God can fully justify the use of this
golden word, for he is the object of their warmest love, a love founded
on the intrinsic excellence of his person, the complete perfection of
his charms. Look, O disciples of Jesus, to your Master's lips, and say,
"Are they not most sweet?" Do not his words cause your hearts to burn
within you as he talks with you by the way? Ye worshippers of Immanuel,
look up to his head of much fine gold, and tell me, are not his
thoughts precious unto you? Is not your adoration sweetened with
affection as ye humbly bow before that countenance which is as Lebanon,
excellent as the cedars? Is there not a charm in his every feature, and
is not his whole person fragrant with such a savour of his good
ointments, that therefore the virgins love him? Is there one member of
his glorious body which is not attractive?-one portion of his person
which is not a fresh lodestone to our souls?-one office which is not a
strong cord to bind your heart? Our love is not as a seal set upon his
heart of love alone; it is fastened upon his arm of power also; nor is
there a single part of him upon which it does not fix itself. We anoint
his whole person with the sweet spikenard of our fervent love. His
whole life we would imitate; his whole character we would transcribe.
In all other beings we see some lack, in him there is all perfection.
The best even of his favoured saints have had blots upon their garments
and wrinkles upon their brows; he is nothing but loveliness. All
earthly suns have their spots: the fair world itself hath its
wilderness; we cannot love the whole of the most lovely thing; but
Christ Jesus is gold without alloy-light without darkness-glory without
cloud-"Yea, he is altogether lovely."

EVENING:

"Abide in me."
-- John 15:4

Communion with Christ is a certain cure for every ill. Whether it be
the wormwood of woe, or the cloying surfeit of earthly delight, close
fellowship with the Lord Jesus will take bitterness from the one, and
satiety from the other. Live near to Jesus, Christian, and it is a
matter of secondary importance whether thou livest on the mountain of
honour or in the valley of humiliation. Living near to Jesus, thou art
covered with the wings of God, and underneath thee are the everlasting
arms. Let nothing keep thee from that hallowed intercourse, which is
the choice privilege of a soul wedded to THE WELL-BELOVED. Be not
content with an interview now and then, but seek always to retain his
company, for only in his presence hast thou either comfort or safety.
Jesus should not be unto us a friend who calls upon us now and then,
but one with whom we walk evermore. Thou hast a difficult road before
thee: see, O traveller to heaven, that thou go not without thy guide.
Thou hast to pass through the fiery furnace; enter it not unless, like
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, thou hast the Son of God to be thy
companion. Thou hast to storm the Jericho of thine own corruptions:
attempt not the warfare until, like Joshua, thou hast seen the Captain
of the Lord's host, with his sword drawn in his hand. Thou art to meet
the Esau of thy many temptations: meet him not until at Jabbok's brook
thou hast laid hold upon the angel, and prevailed. In every case, in
every condition, thou wilt need Jesus; but most of all, when the iron
gates of death shall open to thee. Keep thou close to thy soul's
Husband, lean thy head upon his bosom, ask to be refreshed with the
spiced wine of his pomegranate, and thou shalt be found of him at the
last, without spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing. Seeing thou hast
lived with him, and lived in him here, thou shalt abide with him for
ever.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Time Of Relapse"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 9, 2008

THE TIME OF RELAPSE

Will ye also go away?

John 6:67

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+6:67&sr=1

A penetrating question. Our Lord's words come home most when He talks
in the most simple way. We know Who Jesus is, but in spite of that He
says - "Will ye also go away?" We have to maintain a venturing
attitude toward Him all the time.

"From that time many of His disciples went back, and walked no more
with Him." They went back from walking with Jesus, not into sin, but
they relapsed. Many to-day are spending and being spent in work for
Jesus Christ, but they do not walk with Him. The one thing God keeps
us to steadily is that we may be one with Jesus Christ. After
sanctification the discipline of our spiritual life is along this
line. If God gives a clear and emphatic realization to your soul of
what He wants, do not try to keep yourself in that relationship by
any particular method, but live a natural life of absolute dependence
on Jesus Christ. Never try to live the life with God on any other
line than God's line, and that line is absolute devotion to Him. The
certainty that I do not know - that is the secret of going with
Jesus.

Peter only saw in Jesus Someone to minister salvation to him and to
the world. Our Lord wants us to be yoke-fellows with Him.

v. 70. Jesus answers the great lack in Peter. We cannot answer for
others.

Praying with Paul : "United in Christ"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

UNITED IN CHRIST

1 Corinthians 1:10-13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+1:10-13

Dear Father, the one and only God of your one holy people,

Help me never to be part of any division within the body of
Christ. Let me be perfectly united in mind and heart with all who
follow you. Help me not be some kind of -ite, -ist, or -anian. Keep
me from misplacing my loyalties with this man or that!

Christ, of whom I am part, is not divided. He is of one mind. So
let me and all his people be together and in agreement. Let us be
like-minded, having the same love, one in spirit and purpose.

Help us do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in
humility help us count each other better than ourselves. Let us
look out for the interests of each other, not just our own.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the Source of our unity and
salvation, I ask these things. Amen.

WJD! -- The Mystery of Seeds -- Mark 4:26-29

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, March 9, 2008

The Mystery of Seeds

Then Jesus said, "The kingdom of God is like a man that
plants seed in the ground. The seed begins to grow. It grows
night and day. It is not important if the man is sleeping or
awake; the seed still grows. The man does not know how the
seed grows. Without any help, the ground grows grain. First
the plant grows, then the head, and then all the grain in the
head. When the grain is ready, the man cuts it. This is the
harvest time."

-- Mark 4:26-29 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
The Kingdom of God is progressing toward an end. While we may not fully
understand all that goes on, we can be sure that it is growing, and
when it comes to full maturity, the harvest will come. There is
movement and mystery, but ultimately, there is harvest. We also need to
understand this about the Kingdom: the power of the Kingdom moves
despite our lack of complete understanding about all that is going on
in this work of God. One thing is certain, however; when all things are
ready, the harvest will come. The one question for us is whether or not
we will be a part of this movement and mystery?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
LORD God Almighty, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God of Deborah,
Esther, and Mary, I want you to be Sovereign Lord in my life. Just as
clearly as you have worked in the history of Israel's past, I pray that
you will work in your Kingdom to your glory at your time ... and may I
be part of this movement and mystery of your grace. In Jesus' name.
Amen.

VERSE:
What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We
have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all
under sin. As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even
one ..."
-- Romans 3:9-10

THOUGHT:
Paul is driving home the point in Romans 3 that none of us can
even approximate the perfection and holiness of God. So how do we
get there? How do we escape the stranglehold of sin? God's answer
is Jesus! I believe that must be our answer, too!

PRAYER:
Holy and Righteous God, I acknowledge before you the sinfulness
in my life. Please bless and empower me to live as your victorious
child. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

even approximate the perfection and holiness of God.

Amen.
