Today's Verse : Proverbs 3:5-6

VERSE:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own
understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make
your paths straight.
-- Proverbs 3:5-6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Proverbs+3:5-6

THOUGHT:
What do you use for your life's compass? No matter how
insightful, wise, experienced, or knowledgeable we may be, only God
can guide our steps properly. God asks us to trust him and his
wisdom even when we can't immediately see the rationale behind it.
He wants us to recognize his presence, guidance, and grace in all
we do. As we trust and as we acknowledge his presence, we suddenly
realize that our paths are a lot straighter and our destinations
are a lot a closer.

PRAYER:
Abba Father, please give me courage to not lean on my own
understanding. I know my thinking can be flawed and what I intend
for good can blow up in my face. Please bless me with wisdom and
insight as I seek to live for you in today's confusing and immoral
world. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Say Yes

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Say Yes
Volunteer to Serve By: Ron Edmondson
"announce now to the people, 'Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead."" so twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained. Judges 7:3 NIV

I can almost hear Gideon now, approaching the people with this one:

" Okay now, listen up men, if any of you are just too afraid to do this, let it be known now or forever hold your peace. If your scared, now's your chance to opt out of this deal."

Over two-thirds of the men volunteer to let someone else do it! Isn't that the way it is today! Actually, I think now the statistic is much worse. (Don't "they" say that 10% of the people do 90% of the work?)

I know, serving God isn't always easy. There are time constraints to consider. The general public might think you are a religious nut if you spend too much time on "church" things. People might disagree with you; you might feel rejection; and it could definately affect your social life!

Thankfully, there we re 10,000 who said yes! (God would later reduce that number, but 10,000 were willing to go.) These were the faithful. These were the ones willing to put God's agenda ahead of their own. These were the ones whom God can reward!

Thankfully there are those men and women today, who though they may still have fear, or think they don't have what it takes to get the job done, are still willing to commit to work for Christ; regardless of the cost.

They realize the reward is worth it in the end!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

A John Grisham Secret, by Rubel Shelly

Because my teaching career involves so much mandatory reading, I don't
get to do a lot of pleasure reading. There is just too little time for
short stories or poetry. I typically only get to the things friends
have already read and are now recommending. They are my book reviewers.
They keep me from wasting time.

The exception for me is John Grisham. A few of his books have probably
slipped past, but not many. He has a new one climbing the bestseller
lists right now, and it stands to be the one pleasure read I will
schedule for spring break. He knows how to tell a good story.

Although his books have sold a phenomenal 235 million copies, people
sometimes pan him. "He's no Hemmingway or Faulkner!" says one reviewer.
"He is not a particularly good writer," pontificates another, "and it
is unlikely that anyone will be reading his 'potboilers' in another
generation."

Sour grapes! Some of the people writing that tripe would kill to have
just one book that sold half as many as his slowest title. But that's
another story.

I like the fact that Grisham doesn't take himself too seriously. In a
recent interview with the Associated Press, the 53-year-old writer
disclaimed any visions of great literary fiction. "It's pure
entertainment," he said. Sounds downright humble, doesn't it? And it is
most refreshing these days.

Self-discipline toward a goal is critical.

In the course of that interview, he mentioned a fact from his earliest
days of attempting to write that grabbed my attention. "The alarm clock
would go off at 5, and I'd jump in the shower," he said. "My office was
five minutes away. And I had to be at my desk, at my office, with the
first cup of coffee, a legal pad -- and write the first word at 5:30,
five days a week." His goal was to write one page every day. If it took
ten minutes, so be it. Sometimes he would write for two hours before
starting his job as a lawyer.

Grisham said that such a rigorous discipline was one of several "little
rituals that were silly and brutal, but very important."

Self-discipline toward a goal is critical. And it is hardly a secret.
But it is the difference in making it and living with regret. What if I
had gotten up? What if I had written a page a day? What if I had gone
back to school? What if I had asked for the position? Or proposed? Life
has far too many "what ifs" for most of us!

The courage to take risks and to reach for a dream is there for all of
us. God doesn't offer life without challenge; he offers grace to those
with courage.

Morning & Evening -- 2 Corinthians 12:9 and Psalms 36:8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

MORNING:

"My grace is sufficient for thee."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9

If none of God's saints were poor and tried, we should not know half so
well the consolations of divine grace. When we find the wanderer who
has not where to lay his head, who yet can say, "Still will I trust in
the Lord;" when we see the pauper starving on bread and water, who
still glories in Jesus; when we see the bereaved widow overwhelmed in
affliction, and yet having faith in Christ, oh! what honour it reflects
on the gospel. God's grace is illustrated and magnified in the poverty
and trials of believers. Saints bear up under every discouragement,
believing that all things work together for their good, and that out of
apparent evils a real blessing shall ultimately spring-that their God
will either work a deliverance for them speedily, or most assuredly
support them in the trouble, as long as he is pleased to keep them in
it. This patience of the saints proves the power of divine grace. There
is a lighthouse out at sea: it is a calm night-I cannot tell whether
the edifice is firm; the tempest must rage about it, and then I shall
know whether it will stand. So with the Spirit's work: if it were not
on many occasions surrounded with tempestuous waters, we should not
know that it was true and strong; if the winds did not blow upon it, we
should not know how firm and secure it was. The master-works of God are
those men who stand in the midst of difficulties, stedfast,
unmoveable,-

"Calm mid the bewildering cry,
Confident of victory."

He who would glorify his God must set his account upon meeting with
many trials. No man can be illustrious before the Lord unless his
conflicts be many. If then, yours be a much-tried path, rejoice in it,
because you will the better show forth the all-sufficient grace of God.
As for his failing you, never dream of it-hate the thought. The God who
has been sufficient until now, should be trusted to the end.

EVENING:

"They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy
house."
-- Psalms 36:8

Sheba's queen was amazed at the sumptuousness of Solomon's table. She
lost all heart when she saw the provision of a single day; and she
marvelled equally at the company of servants who were feasted at the
royal board. But what is this to the hospitalities of the God of grace?
Ten thousand thousand of his people are daily fed; hungry and thirsty,
they bring large appetites with them to the banquet, but not one of
them returns unsatisfied; there is enough for each, enough for all,
enough for evermore. Though the host that feed at Jehovah's table is
countless as the stars of heaven, yet each one has his portion of meat.
Think how much grace one saint requires, so much that nothing but the
Infinite could supply him for one day; and yet the Lord spreads his
table, not for one, but many saints, not for one day, but for many
years; not for many years only, but for generation after generation.
Observe the full feasting spoken of in the text, the guests at mercy's
banquet are satisfied, nay, more "abundantly satisfied;" and that not
with ordinary fare, but with fatness, the peculiar fatness of God's own
house; and such feasting is guaranteed by a faithful promise to all
those children of men who put their trust under the shadow of Jehovah's
wings. I once thought if I might but get the broken meat at God's back
door of grace I should be satisfied; like the woman who said, "The dogs
eat of the crumbs that fall from the master's table;" but no child of
God is ever served with scraps and leavings; like Mephibosheth, they
all eat from the king's own table. In matters of grace, we all have
Benjamin's mess-we all have ten times more than we could have expected,
and though our necessities are great, yet are we often amazed at the
marvellous plenty of grace which God gives us experimentally to enjoy.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Could This Be True Of Me?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 4, 2008

COULD THIS BE TRUE OF ME?

But none of these things move me, neither count I my
life dear unto myself.

Acts 20:24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ac+20:24&sr=1

It is easier to serve God without a vision, easier to work for God
without a call, because then you are not bothered by what God
requires; common sense is your guide, veneered over with Christian
sentiment. You will be more prosperous and successful, more
leisure-hearted, if you never realize the call of God. But if once
you receive a commission from Jesus Christ, the memory of what God
wants will always come like a goad; you will no longer be able to
work for Him on the common-sense basis.

What do I really count dear? If I have not been gripped by Jesus
Christ, I will count service dear, time given to God dear, my life
dear unto myself. Paul says he counted his life dear only in order
that he might fulfil the ministry he had received; he refused to use
his energy for any other thing. Acts 20:24 states Paul's almost
sublime annoyance at being asked to consider himself; he was
absolutely indifferent to any consideration other than that of
fulfilling the ministry he had received. Practical work may be a
competitor against abandonment to God, because practical work is
based on this argument - Remember how 'useful you are here, or -
Think how much value you would be in that particular type of work."
That attitude does not put Jesus Christ as the Guide as to where we
should go, but our judgment as to where we are of most use. Never
consider whether you are of use; but ever consider that you are not
your own but His.

Praying with Paul : "A Channel for Your Word"

A CHANNEL FOR YOUR WORD

Romans 15:14-21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+15:14-21

Dear Father,

I pray that I may be full of goodness, filled with all knowledge,
and able to instruct others who want to know about your salvation.

Give me a share in the priestly service of your Good News to the
world. May I as a believer make (and be!) an acceptable offering,
sanctified by your Holy Spirit.

Help me to make it my ambition to speak of Jesus Christ everywhere
to everyone. Let me love your word so much that I will either go or
help others go to places where it has not yet been proclaimed.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

WJD! -- The Cares of the Crowded Heart -- Mark 4:18-19

The Cares of the Crowded Heart

"Other people are like the seed planted among the thorny
weeds. These people hear the teaching. But then these things
come into their lives: the worries of this life, the love of
money, and wanting all kinds of other things. These things
stop the teaching from growing. So that teaching does not
make fruit {in the lives of those people}."

-- Mark 4:18-19 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
I hate thorns. Spending part of my time growing up in West Texas, we
had to deal with all sorts of spiny kinds of cactus-like plants. Then
in East Texas, where I spent the other part of my childhood, there were
briars. I hate thorns. They seem to grow better in droughts than most
other plants ... but then they grow better than most other plants in
wet times, too! This is just a reminder that our hearts can easily be
distracted from what is important by what is pervasive! For many of us,
the stuff we own soon begins to own us and choke out our heart's
openness to God.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, please help me keep my priorities correct as I battle with the
cares of this life, the lure of money, and the desire to have nice
things. Bless me as I seek you and your Kingdom first and as I trust
that you will supply what is most needed in my life. In Jesus' name.
Amen.
