Christ’s Death Exposed both Religion and Politics (2)

Christ's Death Exposed both Religion and Politics (2)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 23:13 And Pilate, calling together the chief priests and
the rulers and the people, (14) Said to them, You have brought
this man to me as one who turns the people away, and behold, I
have examined Him before you and found no fault in this man
regarding the accusations you bring against Him. (15) No,
neither has Herod, for he sent Him back to us, and behold,
nothing worthy of death has been done by Him. (16) I will
therefore discipline Him and release Him. (17) Now he was
obliged to release to them one prisoner at the feast. (18) But
they cried out all together, saying, Take this man away and
release to us Barabbas. (19) He was one who, for a certain
insurrection that occurred in the city and for murder, had been
thrown into the prison. (20) But Pilate, wanting to release
Jesus, addressed them again; (21) But they continued to shout,
saying, Crucify, crucify Him! (22) But he said to them a third
time, Why, what evil has this man done? I have found no cause of
death in Him; I will therefore discipline Him and release Him.
(23) But they pressed him with loud voices, asking that He be
crucified, and their voices prevailed. (24) And Pilate gave
sentence that their request be carried out, (25) And he released
him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder,
whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Part 2 of 2)
The Jewish death penalty was by stoning (Lev. 20:2, 27).
Crucifixion was a heathen practice (Ezra 6:11), adopted by the
Romans for the execution of slaves and heinous criminals only.
To crucify the Lord Jesus was not only a fulfillment of the Old
Testament (Deut. 21:23); it was also a fulfillment of the Lord's
own word concerning the mode of His death (John 3:14), which
could not be fulfilled by stoning.

Luke 23:24 and 25 say, "And Pilate gave sentence that their
demand be carried out. And he released him who, because of
insurrection and murder, had been thrown into prison, whom they
were asking for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will." The
sentence given by Pilate exposed to the uttermost the darkness
and injustice of man's politics. This was a fulfillment of the
prophecy in Isaiah 53:5, 8 concerning the Man-Savior's
suffering. The accusations of the Jewish religious leaders
exposed their falsehood and deceitfulness in their religion, and
the judgment of the Roman rulers exposed their darkness and
corruption in their politics. At the same time, they both
vindicated the Man-Savior in His highest standard of human
perfection with His all-surpassing divine splendor. This was the
strongest sign that He was fully qualified to be the Substitute
for the sinners for whom He intended to die.

The judgments by the Jewish leaders and the Roman rulers were
the last step of the examination of the Man-Savior. The first
part of this examination was accomplished in the temple, and the
last part was accomplished before the Jewish Sanhedrin and
before the Roman government. After all the steps of this
examination, the Man-Savior was found to be without fault.
Therefore, He was vindicated. He was proved to be the One
qualified to die as the unique Substitute for sinners.

VERSE:
We wait for the blessed hope of the glorious appearing of our
great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
-- Titus 2:13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Titus+2:13

THOUGHT:
One way to view our lives is to see them as a wait. Long or
short, we live in anticipation, waiting for our "blessed hope."
This hope is rooted in Jesus' promise to return. But more than just
his return, our hope is rooted in his glorious appearance as our
Savior. On that day, our trust in Jesus as Lord will be validated
and our highest dreams realized.

PRAYER:
Glorious and faithful God, thank you for sending Jesus the first
time to save me from my sins. Please strengthen me as I wait for
his glorious return, so that I can live as victoriously now as I
will with you in the future. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: 100 Part 2

Worship the LORD with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Psalm 100:2 NIV

Worship is ascribing worth to God. Worship is recognizing who God is and what God can and has done. Worship is giving God the glory of which He is worthy. True worship involves very little of me, and very much of God.

I may not always feel like singing...if I look at my own life. I may not always feel like praising...if I look at my own life. I may not always desire to participate in a worship service...if I look at my own life. All the problems of the world, and of my life, often get in the way of me experiencing true worship...if I look at my own life.

But, you see, worship is not about me. It's not about how I feel or what I feel like doing. Worship is about God. When I take my eyes off myself and my problems, and place them on God, I see His majesty, His glory, and His goodness and worship then becomes a natural response to what I see in Him.

I can worship God with gladness and with joyful songs, because when I concentrate on God, I find Him fully worthy of worship. After all, God is God!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

The Flow, by Rubel Shelly

Happiness is an elusive state of mind. Everybody wants it. Some people
make themselves miserable in pursuit of it. Still others try to be
happy while hurting the people around them. Lots of people complain
about the lack of it -- and blame work, family, fate, or God for their
sadness.

I don't have a simplistic formula to offer you. And I would warn you to
keep a safe distance from anyone who does! But I ran across some
research a while back that makes a lot of sense.

Most people appear to have one or both of the following expectations
about happiness: It is directly related to (1) my circumstances or (2)
finding the right person to make me happy. Both beliefs are dangerously
false!

First, money, awards, fame, and the typical trappings we link to
success don't always make a positive difference in someone's life.
Sometimes they only raise the level of stress.

One of the happiest people I ever knew didn't finish high school, was a
double amputee due to severe diabetes, and had a mentally challenged
daughter. He took pride in his work. He smiled easily and often. He was
more interested in other people than he was worried about himself. In
fact, I never got the impression that he begrudged any of the things
about his life that worried others for his sake.

It's your life's inner purpose that brings real peace.

Second, nobody should have the too-heavy-burden of trying to make
another human being happy. It can't be done! The term "co-dependency"
has been coined for people who are expecting others to fill up their
empty buckets. Don't expect the impossible of anyone in your world. If
somebody is looking to you for his or her happiness, resign that
miserable task today before it kills you.

A psychologist at Claremont University says the happiest people are
those who engage in absorbing activities that cause them to forget
themselves, lose track of time, and consider many of the things they do
both work and play. The term he uses for this phenomenon is "flow."

People who -- to use Jesus' language -- "lose their lives" (Luke
9:23-25) bringing sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from
creeping into their own! It is your life's inner purpose rather than
its externals that will provide real peace.

How about it? Do you know how to go with the flow?

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 44:3 and Hebrews 9:20

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 6, 2007

MORNING:

"I will pour water upon him that is thirsty."
-- Isaiah 44:3

When a believer has fallen into a low, sad state of feeling, he often
tries to lift himself out of it by chastening himself with dark and
doleful fears. Such is not the way to rise from the dust, but to
continue in it. As well chain the eagle's wing to make it mount, as
doubt in order to increase our grace. It is not the law, but the gospel
which saves the seeking soul at first; and it is not a legal bondage,
but gospel liberty which can restore the fainting believer afterwards.
Slavish fear brings not back the backslider to God, but the sweet
wooings of love allure him to Jesus' bosom. Are you this morning
thirsting for the living God, and unhappy because you cannot find him
to the delight of your heart? Have you lost the joy of religion, and is
this your prayer, "Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation"? Are you
conscious also that you are barren, like the dry ground; that you are
not bringing forth the fruit unto God which he has a right to expect of
you; that you are not so useful in the Church, or in the world, as your
heart desires to be? Then here is exactly the promise which you need,
"I will pour water upon him that is thirsty." You shall receive the
grace you so much require, and you shall have it to the utmost reach of
your needs. Water refreshes the thirsty: you shall be refreshed; your
desires shall be gratified. Water quickens sleeping vegetable life:
your life shall be quickened by fresh grace. Water swells the buds and
makes the fruits ripen; you shall have fructifying grace: you shall be
made fruitful in the ways of God. Whatever good quality there is in
divine grace, you shall enjoy it to the full. All the riches of divine
grace you shall receive in plenty; you shall be as it were drenched
with it: and as sometimes the meadows become flooded by the bursting
rivers, and the fields are turned into pools, so shall you be-the
thirsty land shall be springs of water.

EVENING:

"Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath
enjoined unto you."
-- Hebrews 9:20

There is a strange power about the very name of blood, and the sight of
it is always affecting. A kind heart cannot bear to see a sparrow
bleed, and unless familiarized by use, turns away with horror at the
slaughter of a beast. As to the blood of men, it is a consecrated
thing: it is murder to shed it in wrath, it is a dreadful crime to
squander it in war. Is this solemnity occasioned by the fact that the
blood is the life, and the pouring of it forth the token of death? We
think so. When we rise to contemplate the blood of the Son of God, our
awe is yet more increased, and we shudder as we think of the guilt of
sin, and the terrible penalty which the Sin-bearer endured. Blood,
always precious, is priceless when it streams from Immanuel's side. The
blood of Jesus seals the covenant of grace, and makes it for ever sure.
Covenants of old were made by sacrifice, and the everlasting covenant
was ratified in the same manner. Oh, the delight of being saved upon
the sure foundation of divine engagements which cannot be dishonoured!
Salvation by the works of the law is a frail and broken vessel whose
shipwreck is sure; but the covenant vessel fears no storms, for the
blood ensures the whole. The blood of Jesus made his testament valid.
Wills are of no power unless the testators die. In this light the
soldier's spear is a blessed aid to faith, since it proved our Lord to
be really dead. Doubts upon that matter there can be none, and we may
boldly appropriate the legacies which he has left for his people. Happy
they who see their title to heavenly blessings assured to them by a
dying Saviour. But has this blood no voice to us? Does it not bid us
sanctify ourselves unto him by whom we have been redeemed? Does it not
call us to newness of life, and incite us to entire consecration to the
Lord? O that the power of the blood might be known, and felt in us this
night!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Programme Of Belief"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 6, 2007

PROGRAMME OF BELIEF

Believest thou this?

John 11:26

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+11:26&sr=1

Martha believed in the power at the disposal of Jesus Christ, she
believed that if He had been present He could have healed her
brother; she also believed that Jesus had a peculiar intimacy with
God and that whatever He asked of God, God would do; but she needed a
closer personal intimacy with Jesus. Martha's programme of belief had
its fulfilment in the future; Jesus led her on until her belief
became a personal possession, and then slowly emerged into a
particular inheritance - "Yea, Lord, I believe that Thou art the
Christ. . . "

Is there something like that in the Lord's dealings with you? Is
Jesus educating you into a personal intimacy with Himself? Let Him
press home His question to you - "Believest thou this?" What is your
ordeal of doubt? Have you come, like Martha, to some overwhelming
passage in your circumstances where your programme of belief is about
to emerge into a personal belief? This can never be until a personal
need arises out of a personal problem.

To believe is to commit. In the programme of mental belief I commit
myself, and abandon all that is not related to that commitment. In
personal belief I commit myself morally to this way of confidence and
refuse to compromise with any other; and in particular belief I
commit myself spiritually to Jesus Christ, and determine in that
thing to be dominated by the Lord alone.

When I stand face to face with Jesus Christ and He says to me -
"Believest thou this?" I find that faith is as natural as breathing,
and I am staggered that I was so stupid as not to trust Him before.

SPEAKING IN THE SPIRIT

Ephesians 5:15-20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+5:15-20

Dear Father,

Help me speak to my spouse, my family, your church, and the world
about you and your grace.

Let my heart and my mouth overflow with the music of praise -
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs - as I sing and make melody in
my heart to the Lord.

Fill me with constant thanksgiving to you for everything. In the
name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

WJD! -- Jesus Came to Save the Lost! -- Luke 19:10

Jesus Came to Save the Lost!

"The Son of Man came to find lost people and save them."

-- Luke 19:10 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus didn't come to please the religious crowd. Jesus didn't come to
pander to the social crowd. Jesus didn't come to hang out with the wild
bunch. Instead, Jesus entered the world to save sinners. When we look
back over the Gospel of Luke, we see Jesus reach out to men and women,
young and old, powerful and forgotten, demon possessed, and the
politically connected. He came to save sinners of all shapes, sizes,
and stripes. He came to save you and me.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and righteous God, thank you for your great desire to bring
salvation to all people -- including me. Open my heart and move me to
reach out to others who need to know your grace. Even more, dear
Father, stir me to seek the lost as passionately as your Son did ...
and still does. In Jesus' name. Amen.
