=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Eggstravaganza, by Phil Ware

Our church parking lot and the nearby park were full of happy children.
They came for the air castles, games, train rides, egg hunts, and lots
of good ol' family fun -- it is called Eggstravaganza. In a large,
roped-off area, eggs are basically spread all over the ground and
children, in age-appropriate groups, are given the opportunity to pick
up as many as they can. Some of the eggs are specially labeled. These
prize eggs entitle the finder to a neat prize.

The children come and claim these special prize egg gifts with great
delight. The gifts are cool! However, they never would have found the
special prize eggs if they had not searched among all the eggs. It is
only when they picked up all their eggs, and then looked at them
closely, that they could see they had found one of the special prize
eggs.

Over the last several days, I've been doing my daily Bible reading in 2
Timothy. Now I don't know about you, but I haven't had anyone, ever,
volunteer that 2 Timothy was his or her favorite book of the Bible. In
some "scholarly" circles, 2 Timothy is part of what is called "The
Pastoral Epistles" -- an often overlooked and sometimes belittled part
of the New Testament. Even among the most devoted believers, 2 Timothy
doesn't compare in popularity to Philippians or the Gospel of John.

The Scriptures are full of surprises

Using a different translation than I normally use, several passages
jumped off the page at me. Not only were they powerful messages for me,
they were also especially appropriate for this weekend. As I read them,
I remembered the excitement and joy of the children who realized they
had found the special prize eggs. I hope that you will claim your gift
found inside them and find great delight in God's good news!

He [Christ Jesus] destroyed death and showed us the way to have
life. Yes, through the good News Jesus showed us the way to have
life that cannot be destroyed (2 Timothy 1:10 b ERV). Remember
Jesus Christ. He is from the family of David. After Jesus died, he
was raised from death. This is the Good news that I tell people (2
Timothy 2:8). My life is being given as an offering for God. The
time has come for me to leave this life here. I have fought the
good fight. I have finished the race. I have served the Lord
faithfully. Now, a prize is waiting for me -- the crown that will
show I am right with God. The Lord, the judge who judges rightly,
will give it to me on that Day. Yes, he will give it to me and to
everyone else who is eagerly looking forward to his coming (2
Timothy 4:6-8).

The Scriptures are full of surprises if we are willing to look. Some of
these surprises are small. Some of them are perfectly timed for us.
Some of them are prizes of grace, just waiting to be claimed by those
who are willing to spend a little time looking!

So why not pick up the Scriptures, ask God to speak to you, and do a
little looking and listening. You might be surprised at prizes that you
can find!

Morning & Evening -- Hebrews 5:7 and Luke 10:21

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 24, 2008

MORNING:

"He was heard in that he feared."
-- Hebrews 5:7

Did this fear arise from the infernal suggestion that he was utterly
forsaken. There may be sterner trials than this, but surely it is one
of the worst to be utterly forsaken? "See," said Satan, "thou hast a
friend nowhere! Thy Father hath shut up the bowels of his compassion
against thee. Not an angel in his courts will stretch out his hand to
help thee. All heaven is alienated from thee; thou art left alone. See
the companions with whom thou hast taken sweet counsel, what are they
worth? Son of Mary, see there thy brother James, see there thy loved
disciple John, and thy bold apostle Peter, how the cowards sleep when
thou art in thy sufferings! Lo! Thou hast no friend left in heaven or
earth. All hell is against thee. I have stirred up mine infernal den. I
have sent my missives throughout all regions summoning every prince of
darkness to set upon thee this night, and we will spare no arrows, we
will use all our infernal might to overwhelm thee: and what wilt thou
do, thou solitary one?" It may be, this was the temptation; we think it
was, because the appearance of an angel unto him strengthening him
removed that fear. He was heard in that he feared; he was no more
alone, but heaven was with him. It may be that this is the reason of
his coming three times to his disciples-as Hart puts it-

"Backwards and forwards thrice he ran,
As if he sought some help from man."

He would see for himself whether it were really true that all men had
forsaken him; he found them all asleep; but perhaps he gained some
faint comfort from the thought that they were sleeping, not from
treachery, but from sorrow, the spirit indeed was willing, but the
flesh was weak. At any rate, he was heard in that he feared. Jesus was
heard in his deepest woe; my soul, thou shalt be heard also.

EVENING:

"In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit."
-- Luke 10:21

The Saviour was "a man of sorrows," but every thoughtful mind has
discovered the fact that down deep in his innermost soul he carried an
inexhaustible treasury of refined and heavenly joy. Of all the human
race, there was never a man who had a deeper, purer, or more abiding
peace than our Lord Jesus Christ. "He was anointed with the oil of
gladness above his fellows." His vast benevolence must, from the very
nature of things, have afforded him the deepest possible delight, for
benevolence is joy. There were a few remarkable seasons when this joy
manifested itself. "At that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I
thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth." Christ had his songs,
though it was night with him; though his face was marred, and his
countenance had lost the lustre of earthly happiness, yet sometimes it
was lit up with a matchless splendour of unparalleled satisfaction, as
he thought upon the recompense of the reward, and in the midst of the
congregation sang his praise unto God. In this, the Lord Jesus is a
blessed picture of his church on earth. At this hour the church expects
to walk in sympathy with her Lord along a thorny road; through much
tribulation she is forcing her way to the crown. To bear the cross is
her office, and to be scorned and counted an alien by her mother's
children is her lot; and yet the church has a deep well of joy, of
which none can drink but her own children. There are stores of wine,
and oil, and corn, hidden in the midst of our Jerusalem, upon which the
saints of God are evermore sustained and nurtured; and sometimes, as in
our Saviour's case, we have our seasons of intense delight, for "There
is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of our God."
Exiles though we be, we rejoice in our King; yea, in him we exceedingly
rejoice, while in his name we set up our banners.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Decreasing Into His Purpose"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 24, 2008

DECREASING INTO HIS PURPOSE

He must increase, but I must decrease.

John 3:30

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+3:30&sr=1

If you become a necessity to a soul, you are out of God's order. As a
worker, your great responsibility is to be a friend of the
Bridegroom. When once you see a soul in sight of the claims of Jesus
Christ, you know that your influence has been in the right direction,
and instead of putting out a hand to prevent the throes, pray that
they grow ten times stronger until there is no power on earth or in
bell that can hold that soul away from Jesus Christ. Over and over
again, we become amateur providences, we come in and prevent God; and
say - "This and that must not be." Instead of proving friends of the
Bridegroom, we put our sympathy in the way, and the soul will one day
say - "That one was a thief, he stole my affections from Jesus, and I
lost my vision of Him."

Beware of rejoicing with a soul in the wrong thing, but see that you
do rejoice in the right thing. "The friend of the
Bridegroom...rejoiceth greatly because of the Bridegroom's voice:
this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must
decrease." This is spoken with joy and not with sadness - at last
they are to see the Bride groom! And John says this is his joy. It is
the absolute effacement of the worker, he is never thought of again.

Watch for all you are worth until you hear the Bridegroom's voice in
the life of another. Never mind what havoc it brings, what upsets,
what crumblings of health, rejoice with divine hilarity when once His
voice is heard. You may often see Jesus Christ wreck a life before He
saves it. (Cf. Matt. 10:34.)

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Haggai One

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Haggai One
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it." Haggai 1:5-6 NIV

God knows us pretty well, doesn't He? You ever feel like it just is never enough?

Today we will begin a several day look at the short book of Haggai. In this first look we see a response from God to a people who never seem satisfied. The people were constantly wanting more than they currently had; never content. Even though this was actually written a couple of thousand years ago, it is as much a truth today as it was then.

I thought that if I could just become self-employed I would be on easy street. I had seen others with their own business. They drove fancy cars, lived in big houses and spent weekends at their weekend home. I was wrong. Ever been responsible for meeting someone else's payroll each week?

I soon learned that money runs out just as fast on this side of the employment spectrum. The more expensive clothes wear out just as fast as the cheaper ones. The more I tend to make, the more the government seems to want. In fact, after 10 years of self-employment I was no better off financially than my career working for someone else would probably have taken me if I had continued the employee path.

You know what I concluded, and I think it is what God meant by this verse, we labor and labor only to discover in the end that the only real reward in life is Jesus. Big bank accounts, nice cars, houses, boats and investments are great, but they can't satisfy the heart of a lonely man. Only Jesus gives us what will purify our hearts and cleanse our soul. Only He can meet our real needs; the ones that are around whether the checkbook is empty or full. Only Jesus can give us a hope and a future that will never spoil or fade.

The greatest treasure in life is a personal relationship with Christ. I hope I have learned that lesson by now.

Praying with Paul : "All Things Are Ours"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

ALL THINGS ARE OURS

1 Corinthians 3:16-20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+3:16-20

Dear Father, who loves to dwell with man,

Thank you for dwelling within our spirits, for making us your holy
temple!

Help us not to be deceived or to deceive ourselves. Let us be seen
as foolish to the world, let us be fools for you, that we may be
truly wise. For the wisdom of the world is pure folly in your eyes.

For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness," and
"The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." So
don't ever let us boast of men, or of ourselves. Don't let us be
impressed with Ph.D.'s, or millions of dollars, or glamor or fame,
or titles a mile long, or recognition banquets.

Give us humility, in the blessed name of Jesus. Amen.

WJD! -- Frightened? -- Mark 5:14-15

Frightened?

The men that had the work of caring for the pigs ran away.
The men ran to the town and to the farms. They told all the
people what happened. The people went out to see what
happened. The people came to Jesus. They saw the man that had
the many evil spirits. The man was sitting and was wearing
clothes. He was in his right mind again. The people were
afraid.

-- Mark 5:14-15 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Let's be honest. Most people don't believe that an old dog can learn
new tricks, that a leopard can change his spots, or that people can
really change. When they find someone that has been truly and
dramatically changed, they are at first curious and then they are
frightened. It's as if each person thought to himself or to herself,
"If he has the power to change someone so radically bad or under the
control of evil, what kind of changes might he bring in someone like
me?" Jesus does bring change ... real change ... transformational
change ... good change. So we must ask ourselves, "Do I want to change?
Do I want Jesus to have his way with me?" You see, change is scary! So,
dear friend, be assured that if you invite Jesus into your world and
offer him control of your life, change awaits! But don't be afraid!
This change is for your good ... forever.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father in heaven, please unleash Jesus' power in my life to change me
in ways that drive out the evil, the bad, and the influence of Satan
while unleashing the power of your Holy Spirit that brings about the
fruit of your righteousness. In the name of the Lord Jesus I pray.
Amen.

Today's Verse : Galatians 3:24

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 24, 2008

VERSE:
So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might
be justified by faith.
-- Galatians 3:24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+3:24

THOUGHT:
Galatians reminds us again and again that law cannot make us
righteous or save us, not even the Old Testament Law. However, the
Law does one very important thing. It leads us to Christ. We
recognize right and wrong because of the Law. We recognize our
failures, imperfections, sins, transgressions, and weaknesses
because of the Law. Most of all, we recognize our need for a Savior
because of the Law. Praise God for the Law. Praise God a hundred
times more for Jesus!

PRAYER:
Thank you, dear Heavenly Father, that the goal of your Law was
to bring me to Jesus. It helps me appreciate his perfection. It
helps me know my sinfulness. Most of all, it helps me realize that
his sacrifice gives me what the Law cannot -- your righteousness.
Father, I do truly believe with all my heart that Jesus came to die
for me and give me life. In Jesus' name, and because of Jesus'
righteousness, I thank you! Amen.
