Morning & Evening -- Matthew 27:51 and Revelation 3:14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, April 19, 2009

MORNING:

"Behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top
to the bottom."
-- Matthew 27:51

No mean miracle was wrought in the rending of so strong and thick a
veil; but it was not intended merely as a display of power-many lessons
were herein taught us. The old law of ordinances was put away, and like
a worn-out vesture, rent and laid aside. When Jesus died, the
sacrifices were all finished, because all fulfilled in him, and
therefore the place of their presentation was marked with an evident
token of decay. That rent also revealed all the hidden things of the
old dispensation: the mercy-seat could now be seen, and the glory of
God gleamed forth above it. By the death of our Lord Jesus we have a
clear revelation of God, for he was "not as Moses, who put a veil over
his face." Life and immortality are now brought to light, and things
which have been hidden since the foundation of the world are manifest
in him. The annual ceremony of atonement was thus abolished. The
atoning blood which was once every year sprinkled within the veil, was
now offered once for all by the great High Priest, and therefore the
place of the symbolical rite was broken up. No blood of bullocks or of
lambs is needed now, for Jesus has entered within the veil with his own
blood. Hence access to God is now permitted, and is the privilege of
every believer in Christ Jesus. There is no small space laid open
through which we may peer at the mercy-seat, but the rent reaches from
the top to the bottom. We may come with boldness to the throne of the
heavenly grace. Shall we err if we say that the opening of the Holy of
Holies in this marvellous manner by our Lord's expiring cry was the
type of the opening of the gates of paradise to all the saints by
virtue of the Passion? Our bleeding Lord hath the key of heaven; he
openeth and no man shutteth; let us enter in with him into the heavenly
places, and sit with him there till our common enemies shall be made
his footstool.

EVENING:

"The Amen."
-- Revelation 3:14

The word AMEN solemnly confirms that which went before; and Jesus is
the great Confirmer; immutable, for ever is "the Amen" in all his
promises. Sinner, I would comfort thee with this reflection. Jesus
Christ said, "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and
I will give you rest." If you come to him, he will say "Amen" in your
soul; his promise shall be true to you. He said in the days of his
flesh, "The bruised reed I will not break." O thou poor, broken,
bruised heart, if thou comest to him, he will say "Amen" to thee, and
that shall be true in thy soul as in hundreds of cases in bygone years.
Christian, is not this very comforting to thee also, that there is not
a word which has gone out of the Saviour's lips which he has ever
retracted? The words of Jesus shall stand when heaven and earth shall
pass away. If thou gettest a hold of but half a promise, thou shalt
find it true. Beware of him who is called "Clip-promise," who will
destroy much of the comfort of God's word.

Jesus is Yea and Amen in all his offices. He was a Priest to pardon and
cleanse once, he is Amen as Priest still. He was a King to rule and
reign for his people, and to defend them with his mighty arm, he is an
Amen King, the same still. He was a Prophet of old, to foretell good
things to come, his lips are most sweet, and drop with honey still-he
is an Amen Prophet. He is Amen as to the merit of his blood; he is Amen
as to his righteousness. That sacred robe shall remain most fair and
glorious when nature shall decay. He is Amen in every single title
which he bears; your Husband, never seeking a divorce; your Friend,
sticking closer than a brother; your Shepherd, with you in death's dark
vale; your Help and your Deliverer; your Castle and your High Tower;
the Horn of your strength, your confidence, your joy, your all in all,
and your Yea and Amen in all.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Is It Not In The Least Likely?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 19, 2009

IS IT NOT IN THE LEAST LIKELY?

For Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not
after Absalom.

1 Kings 2:28
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1ki+2:28&sr=1

Joab stood the big test, he remained absolutely loyal and true to
David and did not turn after the fascinating and ambitious Absalom,
but yet to wards the end of his life he turned after the craven
Adonijah. Always remain alert to the fact that where one man has gone
back is exactly where any one may go back (see 1 Cor. 10:13). You
have gone through the big crisis, now be alert over the least things;
take into calculation the "retired sphere of the leasts."

We are apt to say - "It is not in the least likely that having been
through the supreme crisis, I shall turn now to the things of the
world." Do not forecast where the temptation will come, it is the
least likely thing that is the peril. In the aftermath of a great
spiritual transaction the "retired sphere of the leasts" begins to
tell; it is not dominant, but remember it is there, and if you are
not warned, it will trip you up. You have remained true to God under
great and intense trials, now beware of the undercurrent. Do not be
morbidly introspective, looking forward with dread, but keep alert;
keep your memory bright before God. Unguarded strength is double
weakness because that is where the "retired sphere of the leasts"
saps. The Bible characters fell on their strong points, never on
their weak ones.

"Kept by the power of God" - that is the only safety.

Praying with Paul : "Balance"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

BALANCE

1 Corinthians 11:2-16
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+11:2-16

Dear Father, God of the present and the future, but also of the
past,

Make me willing to consider and accept new things. But also help
me to respect and maintain the traditions from the past. May I
acknowledge that Christ is my head and submit myself to him, even
as he acknowledges you as his head.

May Christian wives acknowledge the headship of their own
husbands, and may their husbands honor Christ as their head. Help
husbands and wives live inter-dependently, realizing that they need
each other for mutual support and procreation. May all the women in
your holy church conduct themselves in a way that shows their
devotion to your Word and to their own husbands, and may all
husbands give their wives due honor and genuine love.

Help each of us who follows Christ not to be contentious or
self-willed. Let us adapt ourselves to the traditions of the past
that promote good order.

In the name of Jesus I submit to your authority, asking these
things according to his will. Amen.

WJD! -- Fasting? -- Matthew 9:14-15

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/

Fasting?

Then the followers of John came to Jesus. They said to Jesus,
"We and the Pharisees fast often. But your followers don't
fast. Why?" Jesus answered, "{When there is a wedding,} the
friends of the bridegroom are not sad while he is with them.
But the time will come when the bridegroom will leave them.
The friends are sad when the bridegroom leaves. Then they
will fast."

-- Matthew 9:14-15 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus wanted John's disciples, along with his own disciples, to realize
that while he was with them, it was a time of joy. This was not a time
of mourning or fasting or weeping. It's simply inappropriate to fast at
a wedding feast. No, a wedding feast is a time of celebration. But as
bold as this statement is about Jesus' presence altering everything, we
also find a hint that his death will alter everything again, and this
time in a much more painful way. The point: Jesus' presence conditions
the time; it changes everything; it determines our joy.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Almighty and tender Shepherd, I thank you for loving me so much that
you hear my prayers. I believe that Jesus' presence means joy for my
life. But I also recognize that I live between his two appearances on
earth, and thus the joy is not as great as it was when he was here and
far less than it will be when he returns. Give me strength, courage,
and joy so that I can face the challenges of this waiting time with
faithfulness. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Corinthians 15:54

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 19, 2009

VERSE:
When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and
the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will
come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."
-- 1 Corinthians 15:54
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:54

THOUGHT:
As Christians, even if our bodies die, we don't! Our physical
death just means that we will be given immortal bodies. Christ will
raise us up and clothe us with immortality. Death will not have a
hold on us because we are God's children. Victory is ours. Death
does not have the final word; Jesus does, and he says, "Rise!"

PRAYER:
Father, I know that my physical earthly body is fragile. Dear
Father, I know that no matter how good a shape I stay in or how
careful I am about my health, I cannot stop the process of physical
death in my body. But I am excited to know that even though my
physical body will fail, you won't fail. Even though my human body
is fragile, I know you are powerful and triumphant. Father, I do
look forward to the day of victory when death is swallowed up by
the glory and power of Jesus' return for me and his transformation
of me. Until that day, dear God, I serve you with joy as I look
forward to seeing you face to face. In Jesus' mighty name I pray.
Amen.

Today's KJV Verse : 1 Corinthians 15:54

April 19, 2009

VERSE:
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and
this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to
pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
-- 1 Corinthians 15:54
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:54&translation=kjv

Amen.

PAGAN CHRISTIANITY! EXPOSING THE ROOTS OF OUR CHURCH PRACTICES, by Frank Viola, George Barna
Frank Viola and George Barna come to the startling conclusion that most
of what Christians do in church is rooted more in pagan culture than in
