VERSE:
O LORD, ... be not silent. Do not be far from me, O Lord. Awake,
and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my God and Lord.
-- Psalm 35:22-23

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+35:22-23

THOUGHT:
God sometimes seems to be distant and not to be listening to us.
Think of the hundreds of years Israel was in bondage praying for
God's promised Deliverer. "Isn't God listening?" they must have
repeatedly wondered. Yet at the right time, God sent his Son and
brought deliverance. Thankfully, God doesn't ask us to pretend that
everything is okay when it isn't. He filled the Psalms with cries
for deliverance and help. You may find yourself in a position where
these words are yours. If you are, realize that thousands of
Today's Verse participants are praying today for God's immediate
and powerful deliverance of you.

PRAYER:
Almighty God, may your name be revered in all the earth just as
it is among the angels of heaven. Show the power and might of your
Kingdom in our day. Deliver your Church and your children from the
hands of the evil one. Bring deliverance to your children who are
crying for your help with spiritual, family, health, or financial
problems they are having. May our lives be lived to your glory, now
and forevermore. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

"The Word became flesh," John said ... He was touchable,

he were here today you probably wouldn't notice him as he walked
through a shopping mall. He wouldn't turn heads by the clothes
he wore or the jewelry he flashed. "Just call me Jesus," you can
almost hear him say.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

They're Expecting You, by Rubel Shelly

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God,
you will receive what he has promised (Hebrews 10:36 TNIV)

It was a Sunday morning. A bright and perky mom went in to wake her son
and tell him it was time to get up, eat a bite of breakfast, and get
dressed for church. "I'm not going!" he announced. There was a sullen
tone in his voice. "Hold on, young man!" she replied. "You know the
Sunday routine in this house. Why don't you want to go to church
today?" "I'll give you two perfectly good reasons," he said. "First,
nobody likes me down at that church. And, second, I don't like them
either."

Rather than get exasperated with her boy, the wise mother sat down on
the side of his bed. Rubbing his back very gently, she spoke in her
most tender and comforting voice. "Now, sweetheart, you know you
shouldn't feel that way," she began. "But let me give you two good
reasons why you just must get out of bed and go with us. First, you're
47 years old. And, second, you are the pastor."

Okay. It's an old story you've heard before. But it is marvelously
adaptable. It can be Monday morning, the people in that office, and
their boss. Or Wednesday morning, the nurses at the clinic, and the
doctor. It even works for Friday morning, traffic court, and the judge.
The reason it is such a flexible story that fits practically every work
situation is that we all have those days or seasons.

When things are going well and everybody's happy with you, there is no
problem getting up, going to work, and doing your job. But things don't
always go well. And people aren't always happy with you. What then?

Others are depending on us

Have you noticed how many things are cyclical? A few good months of
sales may be followed by a lean time for the company. Or maybe it's the
mortgage business when interest rates are at historic lows; then the
Federal Reserve starts inching rates up again. It even happens in
family life. There are seasons of health and joy and laughter that seem
to vanish overnight in the wake of a heart attack or auto accident or
angry exchange. Does that mean the good times are gone forever? That it
is right just to throw in the towel?

The Bible speaks of a virtue called perseverance. This noble trait is
also known as holding on, staying steady at the task, and persistence.
It deserves more credit than it gets. And it needs to be cultivated in
everyone's character.

Somebody occasionally needs to remind us that tasks need doing because
they are ours. We've made commitments with consequences. Others are
depending on us. Once we carry through, the outcome can be trusted to
the faithfulness and mercy of God.

So what's on your agenda for today?

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 74:17 and Psalms 107:8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, December 1, 2007

MORNING:

"Thou hast made summer and winter."
-- Psalms 74:17

My soul begin this wintry month with thy God. The cold snows and the
piercing winds all remind thee that he keeps his covenant with day and
night, and tend to assure thee that he will also keep that glorious
covenant which he has made with thee in the person of Christ Jesus. He
who is true to his Word in the revolutions of the seasons of this poor
sin-polluted world, will not prove unfaithful in his dealings with his
own well-beloved Son.

Winter in the soul is by no means a comfortable season, and if it be
upon thee just now it will be very painful to thee: but there is this
comfort, namely, that the Lord makes it. He sends the sharp blasts of
adversity to nip the buds of expectation: he scattereth the hoarfrost
like ashes over the once verdant meadows of our joy: he casteth forth
his ice like morsels freezing the streams of our delight. He does it
all, he is the great Winter King, and rules in the realms of frost, and
therefore thou canst not murmur. Losses, crosses, heaviness, sickness,
poverty, and a thousand other ills, are of the Lord's sending, and come
to us with wise design. Frosts kill noxious insects, and put a bound to
raging diseases; they break up the clods, and sweeten the soul. O that
such good results would always follow our winters of affliction!

How we prize the fire just now! how pleasant is its cheerful glow! Let
us in the same manner prize our Lord, who is the constant source of
warmth and comfort in every time of trouble. Let us draw nigh to him,
and in him find joy and peace in believing. Let us wrap ourselves in
the warm garments of his promises, and go forth to labours which befit
the season, for it were ill to be as the sluggard who will not plough
by reason of the cold; for he shall beg in summer and have nothing.

EVENING:

"O that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for
his wonderful works to the children of men."
-- Psalms 107:8

If we complained less, and praised more, we should be happier, and God
would be more glorified. Let us daily praise God for common
mercies-common as we frequently call them, and yet so priceless, that
when deprived of them we are ready to perish. Let us bless God for the
eyes with which we behold the sun, for the health and strength to walk
abroad, for the bread we eat, for the raiment we wear. Let us praise
him that we are not cast out among the hopeless, or confined amongst
the guilty; let us thank him for liberty, for friends, for family
associations and comforts; let us praise him, in fact, for everything
which we receive from his bounteous hand, for we deserve little, and
yet are most plenteously endowed. But, beloved, the sweetest and the
loudest note in our songs of praise should be of redeeming love. God's
redeeming acts towards his chosen are for ever the favourite themes of
their praise. If we know what redemption means, let us not withhold our
sonnets of thanksgiving. We have been redeemed from the power of our
corruptions, uplifted from the depth of sin in which we were naturally
plunged. We have been led to the cross of Christ-our shackles of guilt
have been broken off; we are no longer slaves, but children of the
living God, and can antedate the period when we shall be presented
before the throne without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. Even now
by faith we wave the palm-branch and wrap ourselves about with the fair
linen which is to be our everlasting array, and shall we not
unceasingly give thanks to the Lord our Redeemer? Child of God, canst
thou be silent? Awake, awake, ye inheritors of glory, and lead your
captivity captive, as ye cry with David, "Bless the Lord, O my soul:
and all that is within me, bless his holy name." Let the new month
begin with new songs.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Law And The Gospel"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 1, 2007

THE LAW AND THE GOSPEL

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend
in one point, he is guilty of all

James 2:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=jas+2:10&sr=1

The moral law does not consider us as weak human beings at all, it
takes no account of our heredity and infirmities, it demands that we
be absolutely moral. The moral law never alters, either for the
noblest or for the weakest, it is eternally and abidingly the same.
The moral law ordained by God does not make itself weak to the weak,
it does not palliate our shortcomings, it remains absolute for all
time and eternity. If we do not realize this, it is because we are
less than alive; immediately we are alive, life becomes a tragedy. "I
was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin
revived, and I died." When we realize this, then the Spirit of God
convicts us of sin. Until a man gets there and sees that there is no
hope, the Cross of Jesus Christ is a farce to him. Conviction of sin
always brings a fearful binding sense of the law, it makes a man
hopeless - "sold under sin." I, a guilty sinner, can never get right
with God, it is impossible. There is only one way in which I can get
right with God, and that is by the Death of Jesus Christ. I must get
rid of the lurking idea that I can ever be right with God because of
my obedience - which of us could ever obey God to absolute
perfection!

We only realize the power of the moral law when it comes with an
"if." God never coerces us. In one mood we wish He would make us do
the thing, and in another mood we wish He would leave us alone.
Whenever God's will is in the ascendant, all compulsion is gone. When
we choose deliberately to obey Him, then He will tax the remotest
star and the last grain of sand to assist us with all His almighty
power.

Praying with Paul : "The End Is Near"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE END IS NEAR

Philippians 4:5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+4:5

Dear Father, victorious deliverer,

Everything points to the fact that we live in the last days, so
let me not waste time sleeping.

Salvation is nearer now than when I first believed. The night is
far gone. The day is at hand.

Help me cast off all the works of darkness and put on the armor of
light.

Let me conduct myself as becomes one of your people, not in
reveling or drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not
in quarreling or jealousy.

Rather let me put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provisions
for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Devil's Henchmen

It was almost time for the Jewish Festival of Unleavened
Bread, called the Passover. The leading priests and teachers
of the law were trying to find a quiet way to kill Jesus.
They were afraid of what the people would do to them. One of
Jesus' twelve apostles was named Judas Iscariot. Satan (the
devil) went into Judas and made him do a bad thing. Judas
went and talked with the leading priests and some of the
soldiers who guarded the temple. Judas talked to them about a
way to give Jesus to them. The priests were very happy about
this. They promised to give Judas money {if he would give
Jesus to them}. Judas agreed. Then Judas waited for the best
time to give Jesus to them. Judas wanted to do it when there
were no people around to see him do it.

-- Luke 22:1-6 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
I cannot help feeling unbelievably sad when I read this passage. Men
who are called by God to intercede for his people and to expertly
interpret the Scriptures for his people are plotting the worst of all
things -- the murder of the Son of God. Judas, one of Jesus' 12
apostles, comes up with a plot to betray the Lord to the religious
leaders. The Temple guard is in on the murderous scheming. Satan, of
course, is behind it all. I wish that we could say these things don't
happen today. Unfortunately, when God's leaders get caught up in
self-interest and religious politics, Satan steps in and leads them
astray and horrible things happen. Pray that God will protect his
leaders from the devious ways of the evil one who seeks to rip apart
godly leaders and destroy the work of the Kingdom.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, please intervene directly in the lives of our church leaders
and cast out any influence of Satan, all self-seeking and party spirit,
and every hint of life-destroying political scheming. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.
