Today's Verse : Philippians 3:7-8

VERSE:
But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake
of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to
the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, ....
-- Philippians 3:7-8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+3:7-8

THOUGHT:
Paul had accomplished great things in his spiritual life before
he became a Christian. His devotion to God and to the Word of God
was legendary. But he counted his past accomplishments as garbage,
compared to knowing Christ and the grace he had received. What he
found in Jesus was salvation, not just salvation from sin and
death, but salvation to a life of grace and power.

PRAYER:
Almighty and Faithful Father, thank you for your grace that
rescued me from legalism, pride, arrogance, sin, and despair. Thank
you for the perfection you have given me in Jesus. Please use me to
help others come to know your grace more fully. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: No punishment!

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
No punishment!
Bring the robe! By: Ron Edmondson
Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. Luke 15:22 NIV

I just knew I was in for the discipline of my life. I had really disappointed my mother this time. How could I have been so foolish? Just the shame of it was enough to teach me a valuable lesson. I braced myself for the worst......and got nothing. No punishment! Just elation that I was physically okay.

I won't go in to much more detail about that teenage mistake, but I will tell you that I'm grateful for my mother's forgiveness! And, I'm grateful even more for God's.

The prodigal son had turned his back on all his father had to offer, except his share of the inheritance. He had said no to his love, the family setting, and the opportunity to continue to learn and grow under his father's wisdom. When he wasted all his money, and had no where else to turn, he headed home again. Expecting the worst, he received the best!

Aren't you gla d that's the way Jesus told the parable? Aren't you glad Jesus came to offer forgiveness to us prodigals? Aren't you glad He took our punishment on the cross? You and I, the children of God, have been given an awesome gift. We have received the salvation of our souls, by the forgiveness of our sins!

And the gift keeps giving! Jesus died once, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God. Your sins and mine were paid for at Calvary! Accept His forgiveness today!

Oh Prodigal come home......the best robe is waiting!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Is It Really Enough?, by Tom Norvell

When they asked Jesus, "Which is the most important of all the
commands?" Jesus said, "Love God with all your heart and soul and mind
and strength. Then, love your neighbor as yourself. All the others hang
on these two" (Matthew 22:34-40).

My question: Is this enough?

Jesus said these are the most important things: Love God and love
people.

My question: Is this enough?

For those asking the original question, it seems the answer did not
satisfy. Jesus follows His answer with a question for them, "What do
you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" (v. 42) After they
wrestled with the question Matthew says, "No one could say a word in
reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions"
(Matthew 22:46 MSG).

In chapter 23, Jesus speaks to the crowds and to his disciples: "The
teachers of the Law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must
obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do,
for they do not practice what they preach" (23:2-3).

The rest of chapter 23 contains some of the most harsh statements ever
uttered by Jesus.

Again, my question: Is love for God and love for people enough?

What if it was? What if we took Jesus seriously? What if we said that
loving God and loving people is our goal -- that these two would be
priority #1 and #2 in our lives?

It's worth a try, don't you think?

If we would let loving God and loving people be enough, there would be
few arguments about following His teaching and doing whatever He called
upon us to do. He addresses this very clearly in some of His last words
with His disciples (John 13:1-17:26). Most of the issues we debate
about would possibly be resolved. He clears up many of these questions
-- hard questions we wrestle with -- in His sermon on the Mount (Matthew
5-7), but again, these all focus down to these two basic priorities.

If we would let loving God and loving people be enough, many of the
issues of "Who is lovable and who is not?", "Who is acceptable in the
Kingdom and who is not?", "What is right and what is wrong for God's
people to do in worship, in business, in marriage, and in all our
relationships?" could be settled. Or better yet, they would never
surface. It might bring some clarity to many of the questions we have
about how to take care of our planet, poverty, war, and how to interact
with people of other races and religions.

All these good things could happen if we would let loving God and
loving people be enough. So, we're back to the question: is it enough?

This is not a question to be answered only by the religious leaders of
Jesus' day, or our day. It is the fundamental question we all must
answer. As Jesus said, everything else depends on how we answer this
question. Everything else in my life depends on how I answer this
question. So it is rather important.

A new week is upon us. A new challenge is before us. Will we love God
and love people this week as of first importance? Will that be enough?
Will we let it be enough?

It's worth a try, don't you think? This week: love God and love people.

Morning & Evening -- John 3:7 and Proverbs 18:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 6, 2008

MORNING:

"Ye must be born again."
-- John 3:7

Regeneration is a subject which lies at the very basis of salvation,
and we should be very diligent to take heed that we really are "born
again," for there are many who fancy they are, who are not. Be assured
that the name of a Christian is not the nature of a Christian; and that
being born in a Christian land, and being recognized as professing the
Christian religion is of no avail whatever, unless there be something
more added to it-the being "born again," is a matter so mysterious,
that human words cannot describe it. "The wind bloweth where it
listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence
it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the
Spirit." Nevertheless, it is a change which is known and felt: known by
works of holiness, and felt by a gracious experience. This great work
is supernatural. It is not an operation which a man performs for
himself: a new principle is infused, which works in the heart, renews
the soul, and affects the entire man. It is not a change of my name,
but a renewal of my nature, so that I am not the man I used to be, but
a new man in Christ Jesus. To wash and dress a corpse is a far
different thing from making it alive: man can do the one, God alone can
do the other. If you have then, been "born again," your acknowledgment
will be, "O Lord Jesus, the everlasting Father, thou art my spiritual
Parent; unless thy Spirit had breathed into me the breath of a new,
holy, and spiritual life, I had been to this day 'dead in trespasses
and sins.' My heavenly life is wholly derived from thee, to thee I
ascribe it. 'My life is hid with Christ in God.' It is no longer I who
live, but Christ who liveth in me." May the Lord enable us to be well
assured on this vital point, for to be unregenerate is to be unsaved,
unpardoned, without God, and without hope.

EVENING:

"Before destruction the heart of man is haughty."
-- Proverbs 18:12

It is an old and common saying, that "coming events cast their shadows
before them;" the wise man teaches us that a haughty heart is the
prophetic prelude of evil. Pride is as safely the sign of destruction
as the change of mercury in the weather-glass is the sign of rain; and
far more infallibly so than that. When men have ridden the high horse,
destruction has always overtaken them. Let David's aching heart show
that there is an eclipse of a man's glory when he dotes upon his own
greatness. 2 Sam. 24:10. See Nebuchadnezzar, the mighty builder of
Babylon, creeping on the earth, devouring grass like oxen, until his
nails had grown like bird's claws, and his hair like eagle's feathers.
Dan. 4:33. Pride made the boaster a beast, as once before it made an
angel a devil. God hates high looks, and never fails to bring them
down. All the arrows of God are aimed at proud hearts. O Christian, is
thine heart haughty this evening? For pride can get into the
Christian's heart as well as into the sinner's; it can delude him into
dreaming that he is "rich and increased in goods, and hath need of
nothing." Art thou glorying in thy graces or thy talents? Art thou
proud of thyself, that thou hast had holy frames and sweet experiences?
Mark thee, reader, there is a destruction coming to thee also. Thy
flaunting poppies of self-conceit will be pulled up by the roots, thy
mushroom graces will wither in the burning heat, and thy
self-sufficiency shall become as straw for the dunghill. If we forget
to live at the foot of the cross in deepest lowliness of spirit, God
will not forget to make us smart under his rod. A destruction will come
to thee, O unduly exalted believer, the destruction of thy joys and of
thy comforts, though there can be no destruction of thy soul.
Wherefore, "He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Amid A Crowd Of Paltry Things"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 6, 2008

AMID A CROWD OF PALTRY THINGS

... in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in
distresses.

2 Corinthians 6:4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+6:4&sr=1

It takes Almighty grace to take the next step when there is no vision
and no spectator - the next step in devotion, the next step in your
study, in your reading, in your kitchen; the next step in your duty,
when there is no vision from God, no enthusiasm and no spectator. It
takes far more of the grace of God, far more conscious drawing upon
God to take that step, than it does to preach the Gospel.

Every Christian has to partake of what was the essence of the
Incarnation, he must bring the thing down into flesh and blood
actualities and work it out through the finger tips. We flag when
there is no vision, no uplift, but just the common round, the trivial
task. The thing that tells in the long run for God and for men is the
steady persevering work in the unseen, and the only way to keep the
life uncrushed is to live looking to God. Ask God to keep the eyes of
your spirit open to the Risen Christ, and it will be impossible for
drudgery to damp you. Continually get away from pettiness and
paltriness of mind and thought out into the thirteenth chapter of St.
John's Gospel.

STRIVING TOGETHER

Romans 15:30-33

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+15:30-33

Dear Father, giver of joy and refreshment,

Help us strive together in our prayers, by our Lord Jesus Christ
and the love of the Spirit, for every person who is proclaiming
your word in difficult circumstances and places.

Be with them. Deliver them from their enemies. Let them find full
acceptance among your holy people. Let them find joy and
refreshment in their company.

In the name of Jesus we ask, praying with all our hearts that
Israel according to the flesh will come to faith in your Son. Amen.

You'll See It Clearly One Day!

Then Jesus said to them, "Do you take a lamp and hide it
under a bowl or under a bed? No! You put the lamp on a lamp
table. Everything that is hidden will be made clear. Every
secret thing will be made known."

-- Mark 4:21-22 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Confusion is one of the more frustrating states of mind. Not seeing
clearly, not being able to perceive fully, and not being able to
understand leave us feeling silly or stupid. Jesus didn't want his
followers to feel any of these. He wanted them to know that all will be
revealed about the Kingdom at the proper time. It will be brought to
light. He didn't come to hide his message in a darkened room. So our
job is to listen and wait, always obeying what we understand and
trusting that the confusing matters will be brought to light. Our trust
is in Jesus and his promises to reveal. We mustn't let our frustrations
with what is concealed steal from us the things that we know today and
the blazing light of truth that awaits us in the future.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, I need patience. I am not good at waiting. I want all the
answers right now. However, dear Father, I know that you have revealed
what I need to know right now. Lead me to know your will and your truth
more fully even as I am fully known by you. I cling to Jesus' promise,
trusting that all will be made known. In his name I pray. Amen.
