Today's Verse : Ephesians 2:4-5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 4, 2008

VERSE:
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions
-- it is by grace you have been saved.
-- Ephesians 2:4-5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+2:4-5

THOUGHT:
We have no claim to bring to God! We have no right to demand
salvation! We have no power within us that can hold on to life!
Only God's love can bring us life, hope, and grace. Only God's
mercy can bring us salvation. Only God's gift of Christ can awaken
us from the death-slumber of sin.

PRAYER:
Your love, mercy, and grace have saved me, dear Father. What can
I do to praise you? You have shown your might, holiness, and
majesty in redeeming me, dear God. What can I do to repay your
grace? Your patience, perseverance, and faithfulness have touched
my heart and brought me life. How can I ever find the words to say
how much I love you? Thank you, dear Father, thank you for all you
have done for me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Whom Shall I Fear?, by Tom Norvell

David beginsPsalm 27 with these words: "The Lord is my light and my
salvation -- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life
-- of whom shall I be afraid?"

Those words are worth repeating: "The Lord is my light and my salvation
-- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life -- of whom
shall I be afraid?"

Maybe we should read them again, this time out loud! "The Lord is my
light and my salvation -- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold
of my life -- of whom shall I be afraid?"

David had his enemies. He had his foes. He had those who would betray
and forsake him. He had those who wanted to do him harm. Yet he could
say, "Whom shall I fear? Of whom shall I be afraid?"

We have our enemies. We have our foes. We have those who have betrayed
us, forsaken us, or who are about to. We have those who would do us
harm. So we ask, "Whom shall I fear? Of whom shall I be afraid?"

David's response would be, "No one! If the Lord is your light and your
salvation and the Lord is the stronghold of your life, then you have
nothing to fear. No matter whom the enemy is, no matter what foe you
come against, you have no reason to be afraid."

So, why do I fear? Why do I allow myself to get worked-up and
whacked-out and worn-down? If "the Lord is my light and my salvation"
and if "the Lord is the stronghold of my life," then what is keeping me
from living courageously and confidently and fearlessly?

I forget. I forget the promise! "The Lord is my light and my salvation
-- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life -- of whom
shall I be afraid?"

I forget that no foe has a chance against my Lord.

I forget that there is no enemy who can come close to overcoming the
stronghold of the Lord.

I forget that God is strong enough, powerful enough, wise enough,
loving enough, resourceful enough, and is determined to protect me from
anything or anyone that may try to harm me.

God is speaking to us!

When life gets dark, I forget that He is my light. When I am in the
midst of battle, I forget that He is my salvation. When I feel weak and
weary and worn-down, I forget that He is my stronghold.

I forget, so I must learn to remind myself that "The Lord is my light
and my salvation -- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my
life -- of whom shall I be afraid?"

When others are afraid, or discouraged, or weary, or near defeat, I
must remember to remind them, "The Lord is your light and your
salvation -- whom shall you fear? The Lord is the stronghold of your
life -- of whom shall you be afraid?"

So, just in case that description fits you, I remind you, "The Lord is
your light and your salvation -- whom shall you fear? The Lord is the
stronghold of your life -- of whom shall you be afraid?"

Through His servant, David, God is speaking to us. "The Lord is my
light and my salvation -- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold
of my life -- of whom shall I be afraid?"

If I try not to forget that this week, and if I try to remind others
this week, and if you will do the same, by the end of the week, maybe
we will be able to say what David said at the end of the Psalm, "I am
confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of
the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for
the Lord."

We have our message. Now, let's live it.

Morning & Evening -- Romans 8:12 and Song of Solomon 1:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, February 3, 2008

MORNING:

"Therefore, brethren, we are debtors."
-- Romans 8:12

As God's creatures, we are all debtors to him: to obey him with all our
body, and soul, and strength. Having broken his commandments, as we all
have, we are debtors to his justice, and we owe to him a vast amount
which we are not able to pay. But of the Christian it can be said that
he does not owe God's justice anything, for Christ has paid the debt
his people owed; for this reason the believer owes the more to love. I
am a debtor to God's grace and forgiving mercy; but I am no debtor to
his justice, for he will never accuse me of a debt already paid. Christ
said, "It is finished!" and by that he meant, that whatever his people
owed was wiped away for ever from the book of remembrance. Christ, to
the uttermost, has satisfied divine justice; the account is settled;
the handwriting is nailed to the cross; the receipt is given, and we
are debtors to God's justice no longer. But then, because we are not
debtors to our Lord in that sense, we become ten times more debtors to
God than we should have been otherwise. Christian, pause and ponder for
a moment. What a debtor thou art to divine sovereignty! How much thou
owest to his disinterested love, for he gave his own Son that he might
die for thee. Consider how much you owe to his forgiving grace, that
after ten thousand affronts he loves you as infinitely as ever.
Consider what you owe to his power; how he has raised you from your
death in sin; how he has preserved your spiritual life; how he has kept
you from falling; and how, though a thousand enemies have beset your
path, you have been able to hold on your way. Consider what you owe to
his immutability. Though you have changed a thousand times, he has not
changed once. Thou art as deep in debt as thou canst be to every
attribute of God. To God thou owest thyself, and all thou hast-yield
thyself as a living sacrifice, it is but thy reasonable service.

EVENING:

"Tell me ... where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock
to rest at noon."
-- Song of Solomon 1:7

These words express the desire of the believer after Christ, and his
longing for present communion with him. Where doest thou feed thy
flock? In thy house? I will go, if I may find thee there. In private
prayer? Then I will pray without ceasing. In the Word? Then I will read
it diligently. In thine ordinances? Then I will walk in them with all
my heart. Tell me where thou feedest, for wherever thou standest as the
Shepherd, there will I lie down as a sheep; for none but thyself can
supply my need. I cannot be satisfied to be apart from thee. My soul
hungers and thirsts for the refreshment of thy presence. "Where dost
thou make thy flock to rest at noon?" for whether at dawn or at noon,
my only rest must be where thou art and thy beloved flock. My soul's
rest must be a grace-given rest, and can only be found in thee. Where
is the shadow of that rock? Why should I not repose beneath it? "Why
should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?"
Thou hast companions-why should I not be one? Satan tells me I am
unworthy; but I always was unworthy, and yet thou hast long loved me;
and therefore my unworthiness cannot be a bar to my having fellowship
with thee now. It is true I am weak in faith, and prone to fall, but my
very feebleness is the reason why I should always be where thou feedest
thy flock, that I may be strengthened, and preserved in safety beside
the still waters. Why should I turn aside? There is no reason why I
should, but there are a thousand reasons why I should not, for Jesus
beckons me to come. If he withdrew himself a little, it is but to make
me prize his presence more. Now that I am grieved and distressed at
being away from him, he will lead me yet again to that sheltered nook
where the lambs of his fold are sheltered from the burning sun.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Recognized Ban Of Relationship"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 3, 2008

THE RECOGNIZED BAN OF RELATIONSHIP

We are made as the filth of the world.

1 Corinthians 4:9-13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1co+4:9-13&sr=1

These words are not an exaggeration. The reason they are not true of
us who call ourselves ministers of the gospel is not that Paul forgot
the exact truth in using them, but that we have too many discreet
affinities to allow ourselves to be made refuse. "Filling up that
which is behind of the afflictions of Christ" is not an evidence of
sanctification, but of being "separated unto the gospel."

"Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try
you," says Peter. If we do think it strange concerning the things we
meet with, it is because we are craven-hearted. We have discreet
affinities that keep us out of the mire - I won't stoop, I won't
bend. You do not need to, you can be saved by the skin of your teeth
if you like; you can refuse to let God count you as one separated
unto the gospel. Or you may say - "I do not care if I am treated as
the offscouring of the earth as long as the Gospel is proclaimed." A
servant of Jesus Christ is one who is willing to go to martyrdom for
the reality of the gospel of God. When a merely moral man or woman
comes in contact with baseness and immorality and treachery, the
recoil is so desperately offensive to human goodness that the heart
shuts up in despair. The marvel of the Redemptive Reality of God is
that the worst and the vilest can never get to the bottom of His
love. Paul did not say that God separated him to show what a
wonderful man He could make of him, but "to reveal His Son in me."

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+8:28-34

Dear Father, who is totally "for-us,"

How wonderfully reassuring to know that in everything you work for
good with those who love you, who are called according to your
purpose.

Thank you that whom you foreknew you also predestined to be
conformed to the image of your Son, that he might be the first-born
among many brethren. Thank you that whom you predestined you also
called; those whom you called you also justified; and those whom
you justified you also glorified.

What can I say to all this? If you are for me, who can be against
me? If you did not spare your own Son but gave him up for us all,
will you not also give us all things with him? Who shall bring any
charge against your chosen people? Since you alone do the
justifying, who is to condemn?

In the name of Jesus and by his authority I come, asking for the
confirmation of the faith I have expressed here. Fill me with it
and let me walk according to your purposes. Amen.

Praise at Seeing Grace

The paralyzed man stood up. He took his mat and walked out of
the room. All the people could see him. The people were
amazed and praised God. They said, "This is the most amazing
thing we have ever seen!"

-- Mark 2:12 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
The lives in which Jesus works bring praise to God. So ... are we
allowing Jesus to work in our lives and are we helping bring others to
Jesus so he can work in their lives as well?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, use me to open people's hearts to Jesus. In fact, dear Father,
please open my heart to allow Jesus to act with complete authority in
my life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
