=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Thankful for Simple Things, by Mike Barres

It was twenty degrees outside, blowing ice, and dark. My wife and I
were going out hunting. I know -- what a great wife! We had our spots
already set. She went to the pallet in the tree and I went to my spot
on top of the hill. It was sooooooo cold. From my vantage point on top
of the hill I could see if anyone was moving below. At about nine
o'clock I noticed some men coming out of the woods, but I didn't see my
wife. We had decided to stay out in the woods until eleven o'clock. We
met at the truck. It had not warmed up very much and we were soooooooo
cold. I was so proud of my wife for sticking it out. She had outlasted
those men who came out early. Then she told me something that made me
even more proud of her. The pallet was covered with ice. She sat on
that ice, which melted. That made her even colder.

We started up the truck and sat there with it running while the heater
warmed up. Then we pulled out our lunch. It was just a couple of
sandwiches, but with the extreme cold, I'm sure we had burned a lot of
calories. Then it happened. The heater got really warm, and we had
eaten one sandwich each. I noticed my wife started getting teary-eyed.
I asked her what was wrong. Nothing was wrong, she just commented on
how wonderful it was sitting in the warm truck eating what tasted like
the best sandwich she had ever eaten. She was so happy about it, that
it brought tears to her eyes.

Isn't that something -- heat and a little food. We were very thankful
in those moments. We really should be thankful for normal things more
often. Too often we are only thankful when something extraordinary
happens.

First of all we should maintain an attitude of gratitude and be
thankful. The Bible tells us to. The apostle Paul challenges us this
way: "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ
Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV). Years earlier, the psalmist
had told us: "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His
courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name" (Psalm
100:4); and we should, "come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let
us shout joyfully to Him with psalms" (Psalm 95:2).

Isn't that something -- heat and a little food.

We should be thankful that so many of our "normal things" are luxuries
to many others in the world. Simple "normal things" like food and heat
are not "normal" to many. We should give thanks for these as part of
God's richest blessings!

Let's not wait until something super fantastic happens to be thankful.
Let's be thankful for normal things.

Oh, by the way, before you get upset or worried about us hunting --
once again the animals were safe. We didn't get anything.

Morning & Evening -- 1 John 5:13 and Job 22:21

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, May 8, 2008

MORNING:

"He that was healed wist not who it was."
-- 1 John 5:13

Years are short to the happy and healthy; but thirty-eight years of
disease must have dragged a very weary length along the life of the
poor impotent man. When Jesus, therefore, healed him by a word, while
he lay at the pool of Bethesda, he was delightfully sensible of a
change. Even so the sinner who has for weeks and months been paralysed
with despair, and has wearily sighed for salvation, is very conscious
of the change when the Lord Jesus speaks the word of power, and gives
joy and peace in believing. The evil removed is too great to be removed
without our discerning it; the life imparted is too remarkable to be
possessed and remain inoperative; and the change wrought is too
marvellous not to be perceived. Yet the poor man was ignorant of the
author of his cure; he knew not the sacredness of his person, the
offices which he sustained, or the errand which brought him among men.
Much ignorance of Jesus may remain in hearts which yet feel the power
of his blood. We must not hastily condemn men for lack of knowledge;
but where we can see the faith which saves the soul, we must believe
that salvation has been bestowed. The Holy Spirit makes men penitents
long before he makes them divines; and he who believes what he knows,
shall soon know more clearly what he believes. Ignorance is, however,
an evil; for this poor man was much tantalized by the Pharisees, and
was quite unable to cope with them. It is good to be able to answer
gainsayers; but we cannot do so if we know not the Lord Jesus clearly
and with understanding. The cure of his ignorance, however, soon
followed the cure of his infirmity, for he was visited by the Lord in
the temple; and after that gracious manifestation, he was found
testifying that "it was Jesus who had made him whole." Lord, if thou
hast saved me, show me thyself, that I may declare thee to the sons of
men.

EVENING:

"Acquaint now thyself with him."
-- Job 22:21

If we would rightly "acquaint ourselves with God, and be at peace," we
must know him as he has revealed himself, not only in the unity of his
essence and subsistence, but also in the plurality of his persons. God
said, "Let us make man in our own image"-let not man be content until
he knows something of the "us" from whom his being was derived.
Endeavour to know the Father; bury your head in his bosom in deep
repentance, and confess that you are not worthy to be called his son;
receive the kiss of his love; let the ring which is the token of his
eternal faithfulness be on your finger; sit at his table and let your
heart make merry in his grace. Then press forward and seek to know much
of the Son of God who is the brightness of his Father's glory, and yet
in unspeakable condescension of grace became man for our sakes; know
him in the singular complexity of his nature: eternal God, and yet
suffering, finite man; follow him as he walks the waters with the tread
of deity, and as he sits upon the well in the weariness of humanity. Be
not satisfied unless you know much of Jesus Christ as your Friend, your
Brother, your Husband, your all. Forget not the Holy Spirit; endeavour
to obtain a clear view of his nature and character, his attributes, and
his works. Behold that Spirit of the Lord, who first of all moved upon
chaos, and brought forth order; who now visits the chaos of your soul,
and creates the order of holiness. Behold him as the Lord and giver of
spiritual life, the Illuminator, the Instructor, the Comforter, and the
Sanctifier. Behold him as, like holy unction, he descends upon the head
of Jesus, and then afterwards rests upon you who are as the skirts of
his garments. Such an intelligent, scriptural, and experimental belief
in the Trinity in Unity is yours if you truly know God; and such
knowledge brings peace indeed.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Patience Of Faith"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 8, 2008

THE PATIENCE OF FAITH

Because thou hast kept the word of My patience.

Revelation 3:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=re+3:10&sr=1

Patience is more than endurance. A saint's life is in the hands of
God like a bow and arrow in the hands of an archer. God is aiming at
something the saint cannot see, and He stretches and strains, and
every now and again the saint says - "I cannot stand any more." God
does not heed, He goes on stretching till His purpose is in sight,
then He lets fly. Trust yourself in God's hands. For what have you
need of patience just now? Maintain your relationship to Jesus Christ
by the patience of faith. "Though He slay me, yet will I wait for
Him."

Faith is not a pathetic sentiment, but robust vigorous confidence
built on the fact that God is holy love. You cannot see Him just now,
you cannot understand what He is doing, but you know Him. Shipwreck
occurs where there is not that mental poise which comes from being
established on the eternal truth that God is holy love. Faith is the
heroic effort of your life, you fling yourself in reckless confidence
on God.

God has ventured all in Jesus Christ to save us, now He wants us to
venture our all in abandoned confidence in Him. There are spots where
that faith has not worked in us as yet, places untouched by the life
of God. There were none of those spots in Jesus Christ's life, and
there are to be none in ours. "This is life eternal, that they might
know Thee." The real meaning of eternal life is a life that can face
anything it has to face without wavering. If we take this view, life
becomes one great romance, a glorious opportunity for seeing
marvellous things all the time. God is disciplining us to get us into
this central place of power.

Praying with Paul : "Perseverence"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

PERSEVERENCE

1 Corinthians 15:29-34

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:29-34

Dear Father, rewarder of all who diligently seek you,

Thank you for Jesus, whose life not only taught us how to live,
but whose resurrection proved that you have power over death. Thank
you for the assurance of resurrection, for without it we would have
no reason to persevere.

His resurrection is why I believe in my own future resurrection.
All my hopes are pinned on him. Were it not for this, I would live
as do unbelievers, who say, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we
die."

May I live according to Christ's righteousness through the power
that raised him from the dead. And may I never forget the promise
of resurrection.

In the name of Jesus I lift up this prayer. Amen.

WJD! -- Everything Well! -- Mark 7:36-37

Everything Well!

Jesus commanded the people not to tell any person about what
happened. Jesus always commanded people not to tell other
people about him. But this only caused the people to tell
about him more and more. The people were really amazed. The
people said, "Jesus does everything in a good way. Jesus
makes deaf people able to hear. And people that can't
talk--Jesus makes them able to talk."

-- Mark 7:36-37 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Despite Jesus' intentions and efforts to keep things quiet about his
miraculous power to heal, the healing miracle in the previous verses
becomes known and his reputation only spreads faster and farther. The
people were amazed and wanted others to know. And yes, his deeds were
wonderful, but Jesus is so much more than a miracle worker and that
will be harder to teach. We need to remember that with popularity comes
misunderstanding. Some of that misunderstanding can actually inhibit us
from fulfilling our mission from God. So as we look at our churches and
ministries, let's pray for true success -- an impact on the broken
world for Jesus and faithfulness to the mission God has given us.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, I know that the good things that I am able to do to bless
others is because of your grace and power. I do want my influence for
you to expand and impact others. As that happens, dear LORD, please
keep my heart pure, my mission in focus, and your glory uppermost on my
heart. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 8, 2008

VERSE:
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were
still sinners, Christ died for us.
-- Romans 5:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+5:8

THOUGHT:
God didn't wait till we were "good enough" to bring us his
salvation. Instead, he came when we were most lost and needed his
grace the most. But then, that's what love really means by God's
definition. It's more than something declared or felt, it's
something radically demonstrated.

PRAYER:
Holy and loving Father, thank you for demonstrating your love in
such powerful and sacrificial fashion. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's KJV Verse : Romans 5:8

May 8, 2008

VERSE:
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were
yet sinners, Christ died for us.
-- Romans 5:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+5:8&translation=kjv

Amen.
