Today's Verse : Genesis 2:7

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 7, 2008

VERSE:
... the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a
living being.
-- Genesis 2:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Genesis+2:7

THOUGHT:
We are God's creation. He fashioned and formed our predecessors
out of the dust of the ground. He molded each of us and created
each of us in our mother's womb (Psalm 139:13-16). Like Adam, God
fills us with his breath and blesses us with life. We are his
workmanship, his artistry, made to experience life in all its
fullness (John 10:10) and created to do his work in our world
(Ephesians 2:10).

PRAYER:
Thank you for my life, dear God. Please don't let anyone, or
anything, distract my heart from honoring you. Please do not let
the evil one distort my sense of being your creation. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Gehazi Three

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Gehazi Three
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
So Gehazi hurried after Naaman. When Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the chariot to meet him. "Is everything all right?" he asked. "Everything is all right," Gehazi answered. "My master sent me to say, 'Two young men from the company of the prophets have just come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.'" 2 Kings 5:21-22 NIV

Gehazi took things into his own hands. He thought the prophet Elisha had messed up by not making Naaman pay for the healing of leprosy he received. After all, Elisha and his servants, including Gehazi, could probably have used the extra money. So, Gehazi took out after Naaman, attempting to right a wrong.

Have you ever taken things into your own hands? Are there times when it just seems God is reacting far too slow, and you may just need to help Him along a little bit? It doesnt sound that intelligent when I put it into print, does it? And, yet, thats what we often do. We get tired of waiting for an answer, so we start to try and bring about our own blessings. In the process, we often miss the real blessing of God, which He was preparing for us all along.

I dont know how God might have blessed Gehazi had he waited for God to do so. I know this, however, taking the reigns from God certainly wasnt the way to go. Well see more of this later this week, but for now you need to know that he was greatly punished.

One principle we need to learn is this: WAIT ON GOD! It wont always be easy. It will not always seem to make sense. I wont always even seem fun at the time, but it is the right thing to do. Gods ways are always best. He has proven that over and over again.

Do you believe it?

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

It's Not For Everyone, by Tim Archer

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you
rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and
humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (Matthew
11:28-29)

If you think about it, this invitation by Jesus isn't for everyone. I'm
not saying that He wouldn't receive all who wanted to come nor am I
saying that His sacrifice was in any way limited. What I'm saying is
Jesus is calling those who are tired. Those who feel weighed down.
Those who are dissatisfied. Those who don't like the way things are.

If you've never gone through a hard time, if you haven't known
disappointment, if you haven't experienced loss, Jesus' invitation
won't be very attractive. If you enjoy war and suffering and hunger and
illness and all the things that surround us in this world, you're
probably not interested in the rest that Jesus offers. If you haven't
felt the burden of guilt, the soul-wrenching weight of remorse, then a
light yoke probably doesn't sound very good. You may find it hard to
appreciate what Jesus has to offer.

Maybe "Come to me" isn't for everyone.

But the vast majority of us know what it is to be weary. Tired to the
bone. We know what it feels like to be burdened, be it the burden of
worry, the burden of sin, the burden of illness. What we long for is
rest. Rest for our souls. Even though it is a yoke that Jesus offers,
it is a light one. And we're ready. We're willing. Show us where to
sign.

To us, Jesus says simply: Come. He'll lay His yoke on us, He'll teach
us, and He'll do it in a gentle, humble way. Come, He says. Lay your
burdens down. Come. Find rest and peace. Find forgiveness and grace.
Learn what it is to serve a gentle Master, one whose goal is to ease
our burdens and rest our souls.

No, the invitation isn't for everyone. But I know it's for me. And it
just might be for you. If you'd like to know more, write me at

Morning & Evening -- Ephesians 6:18 and James 5:16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

MORNING:

"Praying always."
-- Ephesians 6:18

What multitudes of prayers we have put up from the first moment when we
learned to pray. Our first prayer was a prayer for ourselves; we asked
that God would have mercy upon us, and blot out our sin. He heard us.
But when he had blotted out our sins like a cloud, then we had more
prayers for ourselves. We have had to pray for sanctifying grace, for
constraining and restraining grace; we have been led to crave for a
fresh assurance of faith, for the comfortable application of the
promise, for deliverance in the hour of temptation, for help in the
time of duty, and for succour in the day of trial. We have been
compelled to go to God for our souls, as constant beggars asking for
everything. Bear witness, children of God, you have never been able to
get anything for your souls elsewhere. All the bread your soul has
eaten has come down from heaven, and all the water of which it has
drank has flowed from the living rock-Christ Jesus the Lord. Your soul
has never grown rich in itself; it has always been a pensioner upon the
daily bounty of God; and hence your prayers have ascended to heaven for
a range of spiritual mercies all but infinite. Your wants were
innumerable, and therefore the supplies have been infinitely great, and
your prayers have been as varied as the mercies have been countless.
Then have you not cause to say, "I love the Lord, because he hath heard
the voice of my supplication"? For as your prayers have been many, so
also have been God's answers to them. He has heard you in the day of
trouble, has strengthened you, and helped you, even when you
dishonoured him by trembling and doubting at the mercy-seat. Remember
this, and let it fill your heart with gratitude to God, who has thus
graciously heard your poor weak prayers. "Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits."

EVENING:

"Pray one for another."
-- James 5:16

As an encouragement cheerfully to offer intercessory prayer, remember
that such prayer is the sweetest God ever hears, for the prayer of
Christ is of this character. In all the incense which our Great High
Priest now puts into the golden censer, there is not a single grain for
himself. His intercession must be the most acceptable of all
supplications-and the more like our prayer is to Christ's, the sweeter
it will be; thus while petitions for ourselves will be accepted, our
pleadings for others, having in them more of the fruits of the Spirit,
more love, more faith, more brotherly kindness, will be, through the
precious merits of Jesus, the sweetest oblation that we can offer to
God, the very fat of our sacrifice. Remember, again, that intercessory
prayer is exceedingly prevalent. What wonders it has wrought! The Word
of God teems with its marvellous deeds. Believer, thou hast a mighty
engine in thy hand, use it well, use it constantly, use it with faith,
and thou shalt surely be a benefactor to thy brethren. When thou hast
the King's ear, speak to him for the suffering members of his body.
When thou art favoured to draw very near to his throne, and the King
saith to thee, "Ask, and I will give thee what thou wilt," let thy
petitions be, not for thyself alone, but for the many who need his aid.
If thou hast grace at all, and art not an intercessor, that grace must
be small as a grain of mustard seed. Thou hast just enough grace to
float thy soul clear from the quicksand, but thou hast no deep floods
of grace, or else thou wouldst carry in thy joyous bark a weighty cargo
of the wants of others, and thou wouldst bring back from thy Lord, for
them, rich blessings which but for thee they might not have obtained:-

"Oh, let my hands forget their skill,
My tongue be silent, cold, and still,
This bounding heart forget to beat,
If I forget the mercy-seat!"

My Utmost For His Highest : "Are You Ready To Be Offered?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 6, 2008

ARE YOU READY TO BE OFFERED?

I am already being poured out as a drink offering.

2 Timothy 4:6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2ti+4:6&sr=1

"I am ready to be offered." It is a transaction of will, not of
sentiment. Tell God you are ready to be offered; then let the
consequences be what they may, there is no strand of complaint now,
no matter what God chooses. God puts you through the crisis in
private, no one person can help an other. Externally the life may be
the same; the difference is in will. Go through the crisis in will,
then when it comes externally there will he no thought of the cost.
If you do not transact in will with God along this line, you will end
in awakening sympathy for yourself.

"Bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar."
The altar means fire - burning and purification and insulation for
one purpose only, the destruction of every affinity that God has not
started and of every attachment that is not an attachment in God. You
do not destroy it, God does; you bind the sacrifice to the horns of
the altar; and see that you do not give way to self-pity when the
fire begins. After this way of fire, there is nothing that oppresses
or depresses. When the crisis arises, you realize that things cannot
touch you as they used to do. What is your way of fire?

Tell God you are ready to be offered, and God will prove Himself to
be all you ever dreamed He would be.

Praying with Paul : "God's Children, Israel"

GOD'S CHILDREN, ISRAEL

Romans 9:1-18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+9:1-18

Dear Father,

Keep me and all who are related to me from any hint of hatred
toward Israel, your ancient people.

Let us love them and pray for their good always, longing so much
for their salvation that we, like Paul, should have sorrow and
unceasing anguish because of their alienation from you.

Father, you gave such honor and wonderful gifts to them: You
called them by your name; they are Israelites. To them belong the
sonship, the glory, the worship, and the promises. To them belong
the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, came the
Messiah, your Son Jesus Christ, who is over all things, God blessed
forever. Amen.

Their rejection of Christ does not mean your word has failed. Your
word never fails. It is people who fail.

In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Under Scrutiny -- Mark 2:18

Under Scrutiny

The followers of John and the Pharisees were fasting. Some
people came to Jesus and said, "John's followers fast, and
the followers of the Pharisees fast. But your followers don't
fast. Why?"

-- Mark 2:18 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
As the verses on either side of today's passage indicate, Jesus is in a
time of close scrutiny as people try to understand the Lord and his
message. Even at this early stage of his ministry, many of the
questions move from sincere truth-seeking and quickly become an
opportunity to try to trap him. Other questions carry some implicit
accusation that Jesus' teaching and expectations are soft and lax on
holiness and dedication. While the critical questions of others should
make us go back and re-examine our positions and practices, we do not
need to compromise our commitments and values when we are walking in
the truth. Truth and genuine commitment have always been criticized.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
LORD God Almighty, give me the courage to not turn back from my
convictions when I am criticized, doubted, and questioned. Help me to
know your truth and put it into practice each day of my life. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.
