Today's Verse : 1 Samuel 12:24

November 24, 2007

VERSE:
Be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your
heart; consider what great things he has done for you.
-- 1 Samuel 12:24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Samuel+12:24

THOUGHT:
God is awesome and mighty. He can do anything he chooses to do.
So isn't it amazing that of all the things he could do, he chooses
to do one thing especially well: God blesses us! God blesses us
with material blessing; he blesses us with spiritual blessings; he
blesses us with big things; he blesses us with small things; he
blesses us with hope; he blesses us beyond pain; he blesses us now;
he blesses us in the future; he blesses us ...

PRAYER:
Generous and gracious God, thank you for blessing me in so many
ways. Please help me to be continuously aware of all of the
blessings that you do give me and please use my life to be a
blessing to others and a glory to you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is
like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking
at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks
like.
But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives
freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has
heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.

Mustard Seed Thought: One Glimpse 5

This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die" Isaiah 38:1 NIV

It is a good thing Christians don't believe in omens and fortunes, because today's verse could be taken the wrong way. This was actually knews for Hezekiah. He was warned by the prophet that he would die. God actually gave him more time, but it was good to have advance warning.

All my life I have been told, however, that two things are certain in life; death and taxes. I think there is at least some truth to that saying. We are all certainly going to die. At least, I should say, these physical bodies we possess will not last forever.

Since that is true, what preparations have you made? I'm not talking about your will or your funeral plans (although it is good to have them in order as well). I'm talking about the most important step you must take to get your house in order. Where are you going to spend your eternity?

If you got pre-warning that you would die in 24 hours, how desperate would you be to insure you went to Heaven? Folks, most of us will not get advance warning, other than this: You are going to die. My advise is that you get your house in order!

NOTE: If you aren't really sure where you stand with Jesus, pray this prayer: Dear God, I know you love me. I know I am a sinner. I have broken your laws. I believe Jesus died on the Cross, and rose from the grave, as payment for my sins. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me.

Guess what? If you have prayed that prayer, your house is in order!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Free to Serve, by Paul Faulkner

Growing up, we all had our turn at jobs -- like cutting grass with that
old mower that didn't cut very well or cleaning the woodwork in the
kitchen or worst of all, cleaning the tub, lavatory, and commode.

Those little, tough jobs kids hate doing change as we grow up. They
grow into larger, tougher jobs we still don't enjoy doing! But
Christians know that even the simplest, most disagreeable job can be
meaningful when we do it for the Lord. As we do things out of love for
Him, serving becomes a blessing whether anyone else thanks us or not --
even the little, tough jobs that nobody likes.

We are free to serve!

The apostle Paul reminds us that the Lord calls us to be free -- free
to serve and to bless.

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not
use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one
another humbly in love (Galatians 5:13 TNIV).

So let's serve one another in love.

Morning & Evening -- 1 John 1:6 and Isaiah 40:9

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 23, 2007

MORNING:

"Fellowship with him."
-- 1 John 1:6

When we were united by faith to Christ, we were brought into such
complete fellowship with him, that we were made one with him, and his
interests and ours became mutual and identical. We have fellowship with
Christ in his love. What he loves we love. He loves the saints-so do
we. He loves sinners-so do we. He loves the poor perishing race of man,
and pants to see earth's deserts transformed into the garden of the
Lord-so do we. We have fellowship with him in his desires. He desires
the glory of God-we also labour for the same. He desires that the
saints may be with him where he is-we desire to be with him there too.
He desires to drive out sin-behold we fight under his banner. He
desires that his Father's name may be loved and adored by all his
creatures-we pray daily, "Let thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on
earth, even as it is in heaven." We have fellowship with Christ in his
sufferings. We are not nailed to the cross, nor do we die a cruel
death, but when he is reproached, we are reproached; and a very sweet
thing it is to be blamed for his sake, to be despised for following the
Master, to have the world against us. The disciple should not be above
his Lord. In our measure we commune with him in his labours,
ministering to men by the word of truth and by deeds of love. Our meat
and our drink, like his, is to do the will of him who hath sent us and
to finish his work. We have also fellowship with Christ in his joys. We
are happy in his happiness, we rejoice in his exaltation. Have you ever
tasted that joy, believer? There is no purer or more thrilling delight
to be known this side heaven than that of having Christ's joy fulfilled
in us, that our joy may be full. His glory awaits us to complete our
fellowship, for his Church shall sit with him upon his throne, as his
well-beloved bride and queen.

EVENING:

"Get thee up into the high mountain."
-- Isaiah 40:9

Each believer should be thirsting for God, for the living God, and
longing to climb the hill of the Lord, and see him face to face. We
ought not to rest content in the mists of the valley when the summit of
Tabor awaits us. My soul thirsteth to drink deep of the cup which is
reserved for those who reach the mountain's brow, and bathe their brows
in heaven. How pure are the dews of the hills, how fresh is the
mountain air, how rich the fare of the dwellers aloft, whose windows
look into the New Jerusalem! Many saints are content to live like men
in coal mines, who see not the sun; they eat dust like the serpent when
they might taste the ambrosial meat of angels; they are content to wear
the miner's garb when they might put on king's robes; tears mar their
faces when they might anoint them with celestial oil. Satisfied I am
that many a believer pines in a dungeon when he might walk on the
palace roof, and view the goodly land and Lebanon. Rouse thee, O
believer, from thy low condition! Cast away thy sloth, thy lethargy,
thy coldness, or whatever interferes with thy chaste and pure love to
Christ, thy soul's Husband. Make him the source, the centre, and the
circumference of all thy soul's range of delight. What enchants thee
into such folly as to remain in a pit when thou mayst sit on a throne?
Live not in the lowlands of bondage now that mountain liberty is
conferred upon thee. Rest no longer satisfied with thy dwarfish
attainments, but press forward to things more sublime and heavenly.
Aspire to a higher, a nobler, a fuller life. Upward to heaven! Nearer
to God!

"When wilt thou come unto me, Lord?
Oh come, my Lord most dear!
Come near, come nearer, nearer still,
I'm blest when thou art near."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Distraction Of Antipathy"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 23, 2007

DISTRACTION OF ANTIPATHY

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we
are exceedingly piled with contempt.

Psalms 123:3

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ps+123:3&sr=1

The thing of which we have to beware is not so much damage to our
belief in God as damage to our Christian temper. "Therefore take heed
to thy spirit, that ye deal not treacherously." The temper of mind is
tremendous in its effects, it is the enemy that penetrates right into
the soul and distracts the mind from God. There are certain tempers
of mind in which we never dare indulge; if we do, we find they have
distracted us from faith in God, and until we get back to the quiet
mood before God, our faith in Him is nil, and our confidence in the
flesh and in human ingenuity is the thing that rules.

Beware of "the cares of this world," because they are the things that
produce a wrong temper of soul. It is extraordinary what an enormous
power there is in simple things to distract our attention from God.
Refuse to be swamped with the cares of this life.

Another thing that distracts us is the lust of vindication. St.
Augustine prayed - "O Lord, deliver me from this lust of always
vindicating myself." That temper of mind destroys the soul's faith in
God. "I must explain myself; I must get people to understand." Our
Lord never explained anything; He left mistakes to correct
themselves.

When we discern that people are not going on spiritually and allow
the discernment to turn to criticism, we block our way to God. God
never gives us discernment in order that we may criticize, but that
we may intercede.

THE ULTIMATE LOYALTY

Philippians 2:19-3:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+2:19-3:7

Dear Father,

Help me to be a Timothy, one who genuinely cares for the welfare
of others.

Help me look out not just for my own interests, but for Christ's.

Help me to be an Epaphroditus, a true fellow worker and fellow
soldier to all others who serve you, risking my life for you.

Help me to be one of the true circumcision, who worship you in
spirit, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the
flesh.

Help me turn my back on all earthly gain and count all things as
loss for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ and serving him.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

More Than the Show Can Display

Jesus saw some rich people putting their gifts for God into
the temple money box. Then Jesus saw a poor widow. She put
two small copper coins into the box. Jesus said, "I tell you
the truth. This poor widow gave only two small coins. But she
really gave more than all those rich people. The rich people
have plenty; they gave only what they did not need. This
woman is very poor. But she gave all she had. And she needed
that money to help her live."

-- Luke 21:1-4 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
If we are not careful, we can easily jump to judgement based on
external demonstrations of piety. We can very easily reach the point
where we honor those with money because their gifts are large
monetarily even though their sacrifices may be small in terms of actual
personal sacrifice. God, however, knows our hearts when we give. He
knows what we hold back and why. He also knows how much we sacrifice
and the attitude which has prompted that sacrifice. All around us are
people who are living for the Lord, but who would seldom receive human
recognition. Jesus, however, notices. He knows people's hearts as they
give. Not one kindness we do in the name of Jesus and for the glory of
people and Kingdom will be forgotten. Not one sacrifice for the Savior
will go unnoticed. He knows the truth behind our gifts and is blessed
when they come from a generous, joyous, and sacrificial heart.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father God, you own everything in the heavens and on the earth; please
break me from the sinful habits of greed, worldliness, covetousness,
and indiscipline. What your Son has done for me is much greater than
any of my fleeting and temporary accomplishments. In Jesus' name. Amen.
