=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Companion Runner, by Lisa Mikitarian

I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free
(Psalm 119:32 NIV).

Ultra marathons are grueling races. They stretch anywhere from 35 to
100 miles, cover all manner of terrain, and can take 24 hours to
complete. It would be easy for a runner to lose his way, his motivation
or his judgment somewhere along the arduous course. Because of this,
they practice what is called "companion running." This is where the
runner of the race -- the main runner -- chooses companions to run
specific segments -- usually five miles -- of his race with him.
Companion runners keep him on track, because they're trained and fresh
and possess clear judgment with which to guide the Main Runner.
"Companion" comes from Latin and it means "somebody who shares bread."
We usually break bread with people we trust. "Companion" also means
"someone who accompanies or shares time with another." In astronomy,
the companion star is the fainter of two that make up a double star --
similar in concept to the companion runner.

I look at life like an ultra marathon. We each have our own rigorous
race, our own hurdles that God has set before us and problems the evil
one puts in our path. I am running my race and you are running yours.
Actually, I'm married, and I consider myself to be running a
three-legged race. But the important thing is our courses run parallel
to one another, and at some points we all need the help of someone who
is honest and reliable and willing to put our needs first as they come
up along side us to guide us in our weak and weary state.

The question I asked myself today was: What kind of Companion Runner am
I?

Do I even have time to participate in someone else's race or have I
filled my own with too many obstacles? Am I always a Main Runner and
never the Companion?

Am I trained for the task? What provisions do I have to offer?

God created us to support one another.

Can I discern what my runner needs? Maybe my only purpose is to listen
to her cry that her feet feel like hamburger, or her knees feel like
mush. Maybe my purpose is to give her counsel.

And that leads me to a critical question:

Have I learned enough about the mind of God so I can give my Main
Runner solid counsel? I want my presence to be a benefit to her, not a
liability. And, I don't want to be a liability to myself either!

You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from
obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the
one who calls you. "A little yeast works through the whole batch of
dough." I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other
view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the
penalty, whoever he may be (Galatians 5:7-10 NIV).

I do not want to be "the one" in that last verse who is throwing anyone
into confusion, so I had better have God's word tucked into my heart
and head, and have it ready to use when needed and I had better carry
the Bible in my race sack for quick reference. I don't want my runner
or me to pay the penalty for suggesting the cliff she is nearing isn't
treacherous or that she should skip the next water station to shave 30
seconds off her time.

God created us in community to fellowship with one another and to
support one another while on our earthly course and to glorify Him in
all we do. And He, in turn, provided the Ultimate companion runner for
each of us through Jesus Christ. When I am in close fellowship with
Him, I am better equipped to serve in whatever capacity I am called to
on any particular day.

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 22:14 and Psalms 25:18

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 11, 2008

MORNING:

"I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of
joint."
-- Psalms 22:14

Did earth or heaven ever behold a sadder spectacle of woe! In soul and
body, our Lord felt himself to be weak as water poured upon the ground.
The placing of the cross in its socket had shaken him with great
violence, had strained all the ligaments, pained every nerve, and more
or less dislocated all his bones. Burdened with his own weight, the
august sufferer felt the strain increasing every moment of those six
long hours. His sense of faintness and general weakness were
overpowering; while to his own consciousness he became nothing but a
mass of misery and swooning sickness. When Daniel saw the great vision,
he thus describes his sensations, "There remained no strength in me,
for my vigour was turned into corruption, and I retained no strength:"
how much more faint must have been our greater Prophet when he saw the
dread vision of the wrath of God, and felt it in his own soul! To us,
sensations such as our Lord endured would have been insupportable, and
kind unconsciousness would have come to our rescue; but in his case, he
was wounded, and felt the sword; he drained the cup and tasted every
drop.

"O King of Grief! (a title strange, yet true
To thee of all kings only due)
O King of Wounds! how shall I grieve for thee,
Who in all grief preventest me!"

As we kneel before our now ascended Saviour's throne, let us remember
well the way by which he prepared it as a throne of grace for us; let
us in spirit drink of his cup, that we may be strengthened for our hour
of heaviness whenever it may come. In his natural body every member
suffered, and so must it be in the spiritual; but as out of all his
griefs and woes his body came forth uninjured to glory and power, even
so shall his mystical body come through the furnace with not so much as
the smell of fire upon it.

EVENING:

"Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my
sins."
-- Psalms 25:18

It is well for us when prayers about our sorrows are linked with pleas
concerning our sins-when, being under God's hand, we are not wholly
taken up with our pain, but remember our offences against God. It is
well, also, to take both sorrow and sin to the same place. It was to
God that David carried his sorrow: it was to God that David confessed
his sin. Observe, then, we must take our sorrows to God. Even your
little sorrows you may roll upon God, for he counteth the hairs of your
head; and your great sorrows you may commit to him, for he holdeth the
ocean in the hollow of his hand. Go to him, whatever your present
trouble may be, and you shall find him able and willing to relieve you.
But we must take our sins to God too. We must carry them to the cross,
that the blood may fall upon them, to purge away their guilt, and to
destroy their defiling power.

The special lesson of the text is this:-that we are to go to the Lord
with sorrows and with sins in the right spirit. Note that all David
asks concerning his sorrow is, "Look upon mine affliction and my pain;"
but the next petition is vastly more express, definite, decided,
plain-"Forgive all my sins." Many sufferers would have put it, "Remove
my affliction and my pain, and look at my sins." But David does not say
so; he cries, "Lord, as for my affliction and my pain, I will not
dictate to thy wisdom. Lord, look at them, I will leave them to thee, I
should be glad to have my pain removed, but do as thou wilt; but as for
my sins, Lord, I know what I want with them; I must have them forgiven;
I cannot endure to lie under their curse for a moment." A Christian
counts sorrow lighter in the scale than sin; he can bear that his
troubles should continue, but he cannot support the burden of his
transgressions.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Moral Divinity"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 11, 2008

MORAL DIVINITY

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of
His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His
resurrection.

Romans 6:5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ro+6:5&sr=1

Co-Resurrection. The proof that I have been through crucifixion with
Jesus is that I have a decided likeness to Him. The incoming of the
Spirit of Jesus into me readjusts my personal life to God. The
resurrection of Jesus has given Him authority to impart the life of
God to me, and my experimental life must be constructed on the basis
of His life. I can have the resurrection life of Jesus now, and it
will show itself in holiness.

The idea all through the apostle Paul's writings is that after the
moral decision to be identified with Jesus in His death has been
made, the resurrection life of Jesus invades every bit of my human
nature. It takes omnipotence to live the life of the Son of God in
mortal flesh. The Holy Spirit cannot be located as a Guest in a
house, He invades every thing. When once I decide that my "old man"
(i.e., the heredity of sin) should be identified with the death of
Jesus, then the Holy Spirit invades me. He takes charge of
everything, my part is to walk in the light and to obey all that He
reveals. When I have made the moral decision about sin, it is easy to
reckon actually that I am dead unto sin, because I find the life of
Jesus there all the time. Just as there is only one stamp of
humanity, so there is only one stamp of holiness, the holiness of
Jesus, and it is His holiness that is gifted to me. God puts the
holiness of His Son into me, and I belong to a new order spiritually.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Stretching Five

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Stretching Five
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.' But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, 'Even the dust of your town that sticks to our feet we wipe off against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.' Luke 10:8-12 NIV

During this series Ive been stretching my own mind again concerning how we reach people with the Gospel who dont want to be reached. Im learning we do that by building relationships with them first, sharing truth when they are willing to hear. I think the process begins best when peace is offered first; not rules and regulations; or the punishment received by not following the rules.

Ill end this series, however, where I started. There is a truth. That truth is Jesus Christ. When weve built a relationship, or we have shared Gods love with peace first, and we are rejected, we arent to compromise our truth in order to win them over. Thankfully we are living in a culture that values honesty. People outside Christianity today seem less likely to dismiss our Christian beliefs if we share them honestly, sincerely, and lovingly. They dont want us to change our beliefs, even if they dont want to change theirs. They want Christianity thats real enough to stick even when its rejected. Im learning that kind of conviction is actually a much valued trait in todays culture.

Our culture is changing fast. Our never-changing Gospel is still this cultures answer. We must find ways to reach todays world with this truth.

FOREGOING RIGHTS

1 Corinthians 9:1-18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+9:1-18

Dear Father, who sees my heart,

Help me to follow the excellent example of the Apostle Paul.
Though he had a right to earn his livelihood from his preaching, he
didn't do so. He chose not to make full use of his rights in the
gospel and instead preached the message free of charge.

Grant that my service to you will not be motivated by monetary
gain or personal ambition. Whatever I do, let it be done out of
love for you, your Son, your Word and your holy people.

Help me never to put any obstacle in the way of the proclamation
of the Good News about Jesus Christ to all who need to hear.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

WJD! -- Wild Speculations -- Mark 6:14-16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! --

Wild Speculations

King Herod heard about Jesus, because Jesus was now famous.
Some people said, "{He (Jesus) is} John the Baptizer. He is
risen from death. That is why he can do these miracles."
Other people said, "He is Elijah." Other people said, "Jesus
is a prophet. He is like the prophets that lived long ago."
Herod heard these things about Jesus. He said, "I killed John
by cutting off his head. Now John has been raised from
death!"

-- Mark 6:14-16 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' ministry was effective, powerful, and rumor-worthy! In addition
to the effective ministry of Jesus himself, Jesus' followers were
spreading his reputation, his teachings, and his blessings among the
people. They were trying to understand just who this powerful
miracle-worker and truth-teacher actually might be. Wild speculations
were made, but no one could speculate wildly enough to recognize his
true identity ... at least not yet! We must remember that our job is to
help others know about Jesus and spread his reputation far and wide and
get them asking questions about Jesus. Then, as we are given the
opportunity, help them understand more fully just who Jesus is -- the
Christ, the Son of God.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, please use the events, rumors, movies, and speculations about
your Son to your glory. Please especially use this time of the year to
open doors of opportunity for your children, and especially me, to
share the message of Jesus more effectively. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Peter 4:11

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 11, 2008

VERSE:
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words
of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God
provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus
Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
-- 1 Peter 4:11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Peter+4:11

THOUGHT:
We are given gifts to use in God's Kingdom for two reasons: 1)
to bring glory to God, and, 2) to bless others. Whether we serve or
speak, we are to do so with these two goals in mind, knowing that
God will supply the strength to do what he has gifted us to do.

PRAYER:
Holy Father, thank you for not just saving me, but for also
giving me abilities to use to bless your people and honor you. Help
me see the ways you want me to use my gifts today, and every day
that follows, to bless others. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
