Today's Verse : 1 John 4:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 6, 2009

VERSE:
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives
in us and his love is made complete in us.

-- 1 John 4:12
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+John+4:12

THOUGHT:
What an incredible thought! God can be seen in my home. The
Father of the universe lives in my church. The Almighty God's love
is recognizable in my life. How so? When I love those around me,
when they love me back, when we choose to be loving instead of
petty, unforgiving, critical, and harsh, God's presence, power, and
perfection are revealed in us!

PRAYER:
O Father, please make your presence, power, and perfection known
through my love for your children and their love for each other,
including even me. In Jesus' name I humbly ask this. Amen.

Ask God
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
in Whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:3 NIV

If there is something you want to know, ask God. He guarantees you He knows the answer!

When Christ came to Earth He was filled with all the wisdom and knowledge of God. When the Holy Spirit dwells in us, we have access to the richness of God. The great and wonderful insights of truth in the world are at our disposal as He wills us to know them.

Wonder when your bills will be paid? Curious as to why your spouse does as he or she does? Concerned about your future? Worried about your kids? Confused about a relationship gone bad? Baffled by this sudden illness? Trying to decide what career choice to make?

Ask God, and then wait on Him to answer! Allow God to give you the wisdom and knowledge you need. Seek His guidance in your situation. Permit Him to have input into your plans. In fact, let His plan be yours.

God is all-knowing, all-pow erful, forever present, and a ready help in time of need! Why not put that power to work for you?

Want to know something? Ask God!

He knows!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Love Path 911: Heart Attack & Intimacy, by Joe Beam

Each week, Joe Beam is answering questions submitted by Heartlight.org
subscribers based on his counselor's experience, academic research, and
heart for people as a minister. You can submit your questions to
ask@joebeam.com. Question:

My husband and I had a great sex life until he had a heart attack.
Now he seems to have no interest. Does a heart attack do that? If
he would just hug me or something -- I don't have to have sex --
just to let me know he still loves me, I think I would feel better.
What is your advice?

Though the Bible speaks often of the brevity of life (Job 7:6-7; Job
9:25-26; Job 14:1; Psalm 78:39; Psalm 90:9; Psalm 103:15-16; and many
others), most of us don't think of our own deaths until we face its
possibility through disease, injury, age, or the death of someone
similar to or loved by us. Thinking of our deaths may cause us to feel
sadness or fear. It may lead us to consider the next life, whether
there is one, and what it will be like (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). For
some it leads to a type of giving up, because life seems so frail.

Some heart attack survivors worry that sexual activity may induce
another heart attack. The best way to work through that fear is medical
and emotional counseling for both of you. What concerns me more is that
he stopped signs of intimacy such as hugging. That may mean that he is
depressed. Ask him to take an online "test" that measures the
likelihood of depression. If he is, he needs medication until he
overcomes this. A doctor should evaluate that.

Don't allow his distance to make you distant as well.

In the meantime, gently show him affection in a nonsexual way. Hug him
often. Snuggle next to him on the sofa. Cuddle as you sleep. Sometimes
just hold him (Song 2:6). Remind him occasionally of the things you
find wonderful about him (Song 5:10-16). Don't allow his distance to
make you distant as well. Give him the gentle reassurance that comes
only from a loving spouse.

Have Bible reading time together. Choose passages that speak of God's
Spirit, the abundant life (John 10:10), and glory to come (1
Corinthians 15:35-58). Be sure to pray together every day, openly
sharing your heart before God in the hearing of your mate. When he does
the same, his emotional healing will come.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have a question about love and relationships, send them to me at
ask@JoeBeam.com. I'll answer 1 or 2 questions each week, using my
counselor's experience, academic research, and a deep respect for God's
Word.

And if your marriage is in trouble, we can help. Go to

reluctantly, is three out of four marriages.

Morning & Evening -- 1 John 4:14 and Matthew 11:25

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, February 5, 2009

MORNING:

"The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world."
-- 1 John 4:14

It is a sweet thought that Jesus Christ did not come forth without his
Father's permission, authority, consent, and assistance. He was sent of
the Father, that he might be the Saviour of men. We are too apt to
forget that, while there are distinctions as to the persons in the
Trinity, there are no distinctions of honour. We too frequently ascribe
the honour of our salvation, or at least the depths of its benevolence,
more to Jesus Christ than we do the Father. This is a very great
mistake. What if Jesus came? Did not his Father send him? If he spake
wondrously, did not his Father pour grace into his lips, that he might
be an able minister of the new covenant? He who knoweth the Father, and
the Son, and the Holy Ghost as he should know them, never setteth one
before another in his love; he sees them at Bethlehem, at Gethsemane,
and on Calvary, all equally engaged in the work of salvation. O
Christian, hast thou put thy confidence in the Man Christ Jesus? Hast
thou placed thy reliance solely on him? And art thou united with him?
Then believe that thou art united unto the God of heaven. Since to the
Man Christ Jesus thou art brother, and holdest closest fellowship, thou
art linked thereby with God the Eternal, and "the Ancient of days" is
thy Father and thy friend. Didst thou ever consider the depth of love
in the heart of Jehovah, when God the Father equipped his Son for the
great enterprise of mercy? If not, be this thy day's meditation. The
Father sent him! Contemplate that subject. Think how Jesus works what
the Father wills. In the wounds of the dying Saviour see the love of
the great I AM. Let every thought of Jesus be also connected with the
Eternal, ever-blessed God, for "It pleased the Lord to bruise him; he
hath put him to grief."

EVENING:

"At that time Jesus answered."
-- Matthew 11:25

This is a singular way in which to commence a verse-"At that time Jesus
answered." If you will look at the context you will not perceive that
any person had asked him a question, or that he was in conversation
with any human being. Yet it is written, "Jesus answered and said, I
thank thee, O Father." When a man answers, he answers a person who has
been speaking to him. Who, then, had spoken to Christ? his Father. Yet
there is no record of it; and this should teach us that Jesus had
constant fellowship with his Father, and that God spake into his heart
so often, so continually, that it was not a circumstance singular
enough to be recorded. It was the habit and life of Jesus to talk with
God. Even as Jesus was, in this world, so are we; let us therefore
learn the lesson which this simple statement concerning him teaches us.
May we likewise have silent fellowship with the Father, so that often
we may answer him, and though the world wotteth not to whom we speak,
may we be responding to that secret voice unheard of any other ear,
which our own ear, opened by the Spirit of God, recognizes with joy.
God has spoken to us, let us speak to God-either to set our seal that
God is true and faithful to his promise, or to confess the sin of which
the Spirit of God has convinced us, or to acknowledge the mercy which
God's providence has given, or to express assent to the great truths
which God the Holy Ghost has opened to our understanding. What a
privilege is intimate communion with the Father of our spirits! It is a
secret hidden from the world, a joy with which even the nearest friend
intermeddleth not. If we would hear the whispers of God's love, our ear
must be purged and fitted to listen to his voice. This very evening may
our hearts be in such a state, that when God speaks to us, we, like
Jesus, may be prepared at once to answer him.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Are You Ready To Be Offered?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 5, 2009

ARE YOU READY TO BE OFFERED?

Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service
of your faith, I joy and rejoice with you all.

Philippians 2:17
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=php+2:17&sr=1

Are you willing to be offered for the work of the faithful - to pour
out your life blood as a libation on the sacrifice of the faith of
others? Or do you say - "I am not going to be offered up just yet, I
do not want God to choose my work. I want to choose the scenery of my
own sacrifice; I want to have the right kind of people watching and
saying, 'Well done.'

It is one thing to go on the lonely way with dignified heroism, but
quite another thing if the line mapped out for you by God means being
a door-mat under other people's feet. Suppose God wants to teach you
to say, "I know how to be abased" - are you ready to be offered up
like that? Are you ready to be not so much as a drop in a bucket - to
be so hopelessly insignificant that you are never thought of again in
connection with the life you served? Are you willing to spend and be
spent; not seeking to be ministered unto, but to minister? Some
saints cannot do menial work and remain saints because it is beneath
their dignity.

Praying with Paul : "Empowered by Love"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

EMPOWERED BY LOVE

Romans 8:38-39
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+8:38-39

Dear Father, faithful God,

Fill my heart with the deep conviction that neither death, nor
life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor
things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything
else in all creation, will be able to separate me from the love
which you have for me in Christ Jesus.

Amen. Let it be so for me! Fill me with the joy and peace of so
believing! I praise your holy name and the name of Jesus through
the Spirit for your precious empowering promises! Thank you,
Father, thank you.

In the name of Jesus and by his authority I come, asking for the
confirmation of the faith I have expressed here. Fill me with it
and let me walk according to your purposes. Amen.

WJD! -- To All Peoples -- Matthew 4:25

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

To All Peoples

Many, many people followed Jesus. These people were from
Galilee, the Ten Towns, Jerusalem, Judea, and the area across
the Jordan River.

-- Matthew 4:25 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
In many of our minds, this list of towns is just a collection of Jewish
hamlets. This was not so. Greeks, Romans, Samaritans, and Jews all made
up the people who interacted with Jesus in his earthly ministry. Jesus
carried out his ministry in a hotbed of hate and suspicion among
different races and social classes. As human beings, we can easily slip
into racial, ethnic, and social prejudices. Our own insecurities make
it easier for us to have suspicions and fears about other people rather
than breaking down the barriers that separate us. Matthew wants us to
know that even though Jesus' earthly ministry was primarily
concentrated on the Israelite nation, his goal was to reach all peoples
through the ongoing ministry of his disciples. In the book of
Revelation, the last message of our Bible, God reminds us of his dream
for heaven: a place where there are no barriers between people who
honor his Son as Lord. Jesus shows us in glimpses throughout his
ministry that he loves all people. His legacy of love to all peoples
today, however, must be shown in the lives of his disciples. That's us!
So what are we waiting for? We all need to follow Jesus' example and
serve people today no matter their gender, race, ethnicity, or social
standing.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Dear Father, God who loves all people, give me a heart that refuses to
tolerate injustice and prejudice among your people and give me a
willing spirit to reach through any barriers that divide your children.
Please use me to include those left out and to bring them into my
circle of fellowship. In the name of Jesus, who died for all, I pray.
Amen.
