Today's Verse : Galatians 2:20

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 20, 2008

VERSE:
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but
Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in
the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
-- Galatians 2:20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+2:20

THOUGHT:
We are dead, but more alive than ever before. We are crucified
and humiliated, yet glorified as never before. You see, Christ
lives in us. He works through us to bless others. So the life we
live now in our limited bodies is not limited -- it is the work of
Christ. The life we live now is lived by faith in the one and only
Savior, who has shown his love by giving himself to redeem us.

PRAYER:
Almighty and Holy God, thank you for sharing your life and power
with me and through me. Thank you for joining my life to Christ.
Thank you for joining Christ to my life! May his love, grace, and
power be seen in my actions and character. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Gut Call Two

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Gut Call Two
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?" 2 Chronicles 1:10 NIV

Solomon, the wisest man of all times, recognized the awesomeness of the role he was to play in being king of the Israelites. Every leadership position involves stress, but Solomon was to lead Gods people. Perhaps his wisest decision was admitting he needed help.

Are you able to confess that you dont have all the answers? Pride keeps some people from allowing others to help them. A lot of men I know would never admit to a weakness. Never let them see you sweat is a modern day slogan adopted by many.

Part of life-long learning is recognizing the need to continue learning. When someone reaches a point of thinking they have life figured out they will cease to be open to new insights. The sensors will shut down.

Ask God today if there is something new He has for you to learn through His Word and prayer. And be open to what He may teach you from the people and circumstances He sends your way.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

In Search of Love, by Lisa Mikitarian

I'm one of those people who decorate for Valentine's Day. Sam's and my
wedding anniversary is either on the 19th or 20th of January -- it
depends on whom you ask and in which time zone he/she was in at the
time. So when I decorate, I'm not just commemorating Valentine's Day,
but also our marriage.

This year, I started planning for the holiday at the end of December.
Now December is early, but I needed the extra time if I hoped to be
successful. I wanted to find a print of a painting that reflected my
vision of love -- that passionate, all-encompassing gift from God for
husband and wife. I wanted to find a picture that moved me the way
Sam's love moves me. I would buy it and frame it and have it ready for
our anniversary and Valentine's Day. I wasn't after a particular style
or period of art -- I enjoy many. The only stipulation I had was that
all subjects needed to be fully clothed. My kids could not handle any
more Gauguin-type Tahitian girls even if it was in the name of art
appreciation.

One of the first prints I found was Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss," which I
liked -- a lot. When I showed it to Sam, he said it was too "flowery"
and he looked worried. I assured him I would find something we could
both enjoy.

The Internet can be a wonderful time saving device. I traveled to
galleries spread across the country to view not hundreds, but thousands
of prints from the comfort of my very own home.

In fact, it was so easy and saved so much time, that I reactivated the
bursitis in my right shoulder. My fingertips developed calluses. I
looked until the internal fan went out in our computer and we had to
remove the cover and place a window fan next to it to keep the CPU from
overheating. It became so cold in the basement that I had to wear
gloves and a coat. But, I trudged on, red nose and all. (As an aside,
this became a true test of love as I went to bed with ice-cold feet.
Sam came dangerously close to failing this test.)

And with all that effort, the returns were dismal. Each night, I shut
the computer down more determined than ever to find that perfect
picture. I knew it had to be out there. Sam thought this was
preoccupying way too much of my time.

By the end of January -- I missed the anniversary deadline -- Sam had
become VERY impatient with my nightly outings. He came downstairs one
night wanting to know when I would be done. I assured him that I was
narrowing it down. He said that was good. I double-clicked to one of
the finalists, "The Afternoon Siesta," by Vincent Van Gogh. This shows
a husband and wife asleep in a field among haystacks. They have toiled
together, and are now resting together. They seem like real partners in
life. Sam gave this print a "thumbs up."

I also liked several prints by Jack Vettriano. One in particular was
called, "Dance Me to the End of Love." Sam liked Vettriano's "Mad Dogs"
better. It depicts a couple taking a frolicking walk on a beach. He is
being chivalrous -- trying to protect her from the sun with a parasol.
He's having trouble because her movement is hard to predict. There is
playfulness to their relationship.

I found the love for which I had been searching

Sam wanted to know which one I was going to get. "I don't know," I
said. "I like these prints, but they don't reflect passion." "You've
been looking all this time and you haven't found one you would consider
passionate?" he asked incredulously. I reminded him I really liked "The
Kiss" by Gustav Klimt, but he didn't like it. Now he wanted to take
another look.

I brought the picture up on the screen and gave him my interpretation.
She is enveloped by his love. She is protected by it. She feels totally
secure in it. It is difficult to tell where he ends and she begins.
They are one. It is how I think of my love with Sam, and it is how I
think Christ wants us to feel with Him. Sam changed his mind about "The
Kiss." We bought it along with "Mad Dogs" and "The Afternoon Siesta" --
pictures reflecting different facets of love between husband and wife.

The prints won't be ready for Valentine's Day, but that's okay. I found
the love for which I had been searching a long time ago when I met Sam
and we each -- separately and yet together -- met Christ. The prints
will be a nice reminder, but we already possess the real thing.

May your searching for love lead you to Him, also. He is ready to
envelop you with His love. You may search to the ends of the earth, by
foot, by car or by computer, but a purer love you will never find.

I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine ... (Song of Solomon 6:3).

Morning & Evening -- Ezekiel 36:37 and John 1:41

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

MORNING:

"Thus saith the Lord God; I will yet for this be enquired of
by the house of Israel, to do it for them."
-- Ezekiel 36:37

Prayer is the forerunner of mercy. Turn to sacred history, and you will
find that scarcely ever did a great mercy come to this world unheralded
by supplication. You have found this true in your own personal
experience. God has given you many an unsolicited favour, but still
great prayer has always been the prelude of great mercy with you. When
you first found peace through the blood of the cross, you had been
praying much, and earnestly interceding with God that he would remove
your doubts, and deliver you from your distresses. Your assurance was
the result of prayer. When at any time you have had high and rapturous
joys, you have been obliged to look upon them as answers to your
prayers. When you have had great deliverances out of sore troubles, and
mighty helps in great dangers, you have been able to say, "I sought the
Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears." Prayer is
always the preface to blessing. It goes before the blessing as the
blessing's shadow. When the sunlight of God's mercies rises upon our
necessities, it casts the shadow of prayer far down upon the plain. Or,
to use another illustration, when God piles up a hill of mercies, he
himself shines behind them, and he casts on our spirits the shadow of
prayer, so that we may rest certain, if we are much in prayer, our
pleadings are the shadows of mercy. Prayer is thus connected with the
blessing to show us the value of it. If we had the blessings without
asking for them, we should think them common things; but prayer makes
our mercies more precious than diamonds. The things we ask for are
precious, but we do not realize their preciousness until we have sought
for them earnestly.

"Prayer makes the darken'd cloud withdraw;
Prayer climbs the ladder Jacob saw;
Gives exercise to faith and love;
Brings every blessing from above."

EVENING:

"He first findeth his own brother Simon."
-- John 1:41

This case is an excellent pattern of all cases where spiritual life is
vigorous. As soon as a man has found Christ, he begins to find others.
I will not believe that thou hast tasted of the honey of the gospel if
thou canst eat it all thyself. True grace puts an end to all spiritual
monopoly. Andrew first found his own brother Simon, and then others.
Relationship has a very strong demand upon our first individual
efforts. Andrew, thou didst well to begin with Simon. I doubt whether
there are not some Christians giving away tracts at other people's
houses who would do well to give away a tract at their own-whether
there are not some engaged in works of usefulness abroad who are
neglecting their special sphere of usefulness at home. Thou mayst or
thou mayst not be called to evangelize the people in any particular
locality, but certainly thou art called to see after thine own
servants, thine own kinsfolk and acquaintance. Let thy religion begin
at home. Many tradesmen export their best commodities-the Christian
should not. He should have all his conversation everywhere of the best
savour; but let him have a care to put forth the sweetest fruit of
spiritual life and testimony in his own family. When Andrew went to
find his brother, he little imagined how eminent Simon would become.
Simon Peter was worth ten Andrews so far as we can gather from sacred
history, and yet Andrew was instrumental in bringing him to Jesus. You
may be very deficient in talent yourself, and yet you may be the means
of drawing to Christ one who shall become eminent in grace and service.
Ah! dear friend, you little know the possibilities which are in you.
You may but speak a word to a child, and in that child there may be
slumbering a noble heart which shall stir the Christian church in years
to come. Andrew has only two talents, but he finds Peter. Go thou and
do likewise.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Initiative Against Drudgery"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 19, 2008

THE INITIATIVE AGAINST DRUDGERY

Arise, shine.

Isaiah 60:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+60:1&sr=1

We have to take the first step as though there were no God. It is no
use to wait for God to help us, He will not; but immediately we arise
we find He is there. Whenever God inspires, the initiative is a moral
one. We must do the thing and not lie like a log. If we will arise
and shine, drudgery becomes divinely transfigured.

Drudgery is one of the finest touchstones of character there is.
Drudgery is work that is very far removed from anything to do with
the ideal - the utterly mean grubby things; and when we come in
contact with them we know instantly whether or not we are spiritually
real. Read John 13. We see there the Incarnate God doing the most
desperate piece of drudgery, washing fishermen's feet, and He says -
"If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, ye also
ought to wash one another's feet." It requires the inspiration of God
to go through drudgery with the light of God upon it. Some people do
a certain thing and the way in which they do it hallows that thing
for ever afterwards. It may be the most commonplace thing, but after
we have seen them do it, it becomes different. When the Lord does a
thing through us, He always transfigures it. Our Lord took on Him our
human flesh and transfigured it, and it has become for every saint
the temple of the Holy Ghost.

Praying with Paul : "Value of Interdependence"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

VALUE OF INTERDEPENDENCE

Romans 12:3-8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+12:3-8

Dear Father, who wills our interdependence,

Having gifts that differ, let us use them appropriately according
to your will.

If prophesy, in proportion to one's faith. If service, diligently
serving. If teaching, instructively teaching. If exhortation,
strongly motivating encouragement. If giving, with liberal and
generous contributions. If giving aid, with zeal. If acts of
mercy, with cheerfulness.

Great Giver, give your gifts to your people through your people.
But let us always give you the glory! Praise to you, our Lord.

It is in the name of Jesus, who shares all spiritual blessings
with us, we ask for a growing love among all your people. Amen.

WJD! -- The Purpose of the 12 -- Mark 3:14-15

The Purpose of the 12

Jesus chose twelve men and called them apostles. Jesus wanted
these twelve men to be with him, and he wanted to send them
to other places to tell people {God's message}. And Jesus
wanted these men to have the power to force demons out of
people.

-- Mark 3:14-15 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus selected the 12 for several clear purposes. First, they were to
be his companions -- they would learn by being with him. Second, he
sent them out to do what he had been doing -- preaching the Gospel of
the Kingdom. Third, he gave them authority and power to serve. His plan
for the development of these disciples, most of whom became leaders
after his death, is a good one for us to follow. If we want leaders who
can make a huge difference in the world, we need to train them, task
them, and trust them. Training means that we don't just give them a
manual or a book, but that we help them learn by serving as an
apprentice to a proven leader. Tasking means that we give them a clear
mission or task to perform and hold them accountable to fulfill that
task. Trusting means that we actually give them authority and power to
do what needs to be done. Unfortunately the whole Body of Jesus is not
turned loose to work as it could because we are afraid that some
leaders won't live up to the holy task they are to perform. So let's be
honest with Jesus' example. Did these 12 all live up to their holy
task? How long did it take for even the best of them to get it right?
How many of them failed at some point? How many of them failed
completely? Get the point? Let's prayerfully call more people to serve
and then follow Jesus' example.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, forgive us. We have limited your people because we have not
called more to lead; and the few whom we have called to lead, we often
limit because of our lack of faith in them and our lack of direction
and accountability given to them. Dear Father, please raise up more
leaders and open our eyes to their presence. In Jesus' name. Amen.
