Mustard Seed Thoughts: Dear Fellow Struggler

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Dear Fellow Struggler
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Some, however, made fun of them and said, They have had too much wine. Acts 2:13 NIV

The first church just couldn't be understood. Filled with the Holy Spirit, they began to act as they never had before. In addition to being able to tell the gospel in languages they had not learned, they were also overflowing with joy, in spite of their persecutions, that the world could not comprehend. They were seen as fools! Fools for Jesus!

Such is the life of a Christian.

Dear fellow struggler, this world is not our own. In this world we will have trials and temptations. (If you are like me, you feel as though you have received your share and more.) This life will throw us some curves we didn't expect. Yet, through it all, we can rejoice! Through every storm of life, we can have the peace of God which goes beyond all our troubles.

No, the lost world cannot understand it, how we, the soldiers of the cross can have joy during darkness; stren gth in times of weakness; internal wealth in times of external poverty; victory in times of defeat. It makes no sense to the veiled mind and heart how our struggles seem to produce more hope. They cannot fathom our dependence upon our Holy God!

But, we are fools-- fools for Christ! He is the answer to every question of life. He is our truth!

And when the final page in this history of time has come and Christ returns for His reign of glory, it will be us, the fools of Christ, who will join Him in victory! He will have proven the foolish to be wise!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Always Saying the Right Thing, by Russ Lawson

Have you ever meant to say something that didn't come out just the way
you wanted it to? Being a preacher, it seems that I have a constant
problem of "foot in mouth." I have heard other folks do the same thing,
sometimes a complement that didn't come off just the way we wanted.
Sometimes a word of correction that came off much harsher than we had
intended.

I received this little story from a friend of mine in Missouri
(Raymond), which illustrates the problem.

A bashful young man asked a friend for advice on what to talk about
on a date. The friend said to flatter the girl, "Tell her when you
see her face, time stands still." What the rattled young man said
to his date was, "Your face would stop a clock."

I need constant reminding of that principle.

How do you get into messes like that, and more importantly, how do you
get out again? Most of the time, it is as simple as saying, "I'm sorry,
that was not what I meant to say."

Notice what Paul writes those who followed Jesus in his day:

Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye
may know how ye ought to answer every man (Colossians 4:6).

"Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt ..."* I don't
know about you, but I need an almost constant reminding of that
principle. Why? Because I often don't do so well at accomplishing it.

May our God guide you in all that you think and say!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

* The phrase "seasoned with salt" does not mean "salty speech," which
comes from the concept of "speaking salty like a sailor (who sails on
salt water and the language used at sea is, well, salty)." Instead, the
phrase refers to being correctly seasoned like using the correct amount
of salt.

Morning & Evening -- Hebrews 12:24 and John 12:21

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 17, 2009

MORNING:

"We are come to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better
things than that of Abel."
-- Hebrews 12:24

Reader, have you come to the blood of sprinkling? The question is not
whether you have come to a knowledge of doctrine, or an observance of
ceremonies, or to a certain form of experience, but have you come to
the blood of Jesus? The blood of Jesus is the life of all vital
godliness. If you have truly come to Jesus, we know how you came-the
Holy Spirit sweetly brought you there. You came to the blood of
sprinkling with no merits of your own. Guilty, lost, and helpless, you
came to take that blood, and that blood alone, as your everlasting
hope. You came to the cross of Christ, with a trembling and an aching
heart; and oh! what a precious sound it was to you to hear the voice of
the blood of Jesus! The dropping of his blood is as the music of heaven
to the penitent sons of earth. We are full of sin, but the Saviour bids
us lift our eyes to him, and as we gaze upon his streaming wounds, each
drop of blood, as it falls, cries, "It is finished; I have made an end
of sin; I have brought in everlasting righteousness." Oh! sweet
language of the precious blood of Jesus! If you have come to that blood
once, you will come to it constantly. Your life will be "Looking unto
Jesus." Your whole conduct will be epitomized in this-"To whom coming."
Not to whom I have come, but to whom I am always coming. If thou hast
ever come to the blood of sprinkling, thou wilt feel thy need of coming
to it every day. He who does not desire to wash in it every day, has
never washed in it at all. The believer ever feels it to be his joy and
privilege that there is still a fountain opened. Past experiences are
doubtful food for Christians; a present coming to Christ alone can give
us joy and comfort. This morning let us sprinkle our door-post fresh
with blood, and then feast upon the Lamb, assured that the destroying
angel must pass us by.

EVENING:

"We would see Jesus."
-- John 12:21

Evermore the worldling's cry is, "Who will show us any good?" He seeks
satisfaction in earthly comforts, enjoyments, and riches. But the
quickened sinner knows of only one good. "O that I knew where I might
find HIM!" When he is truly awakened to feel his guilt, if you could
pour the gold of India at his feet, he would say, "Take it away: I want
to find HIM." It is a blessed thing for a man, when he has brought his
desires into a focus, so that they all centre in one object. When he
has fifty different desires, his heart resembles a mere of stagnant
water, spread out into a marsh, breeding miasma and pestilence; but
when all his desires are brought into one channel, his heart becomes
like a river of pure water, running swiftly to fertilize the fields.
Happy is he who hath one desire, if that one desire be set on Christ,
though it may not yet have been realized. If Jesus be a soul's desire,
it is a blessed sign of divine work within. Such a man will never be
content with mere ordinances. He will say, "I want Christ; I must have
him-mere ordinances are of no use to me; I want himself; do not offer
me these; you offer me the empty pitcher, while I am dying of thirst;
give me water, or I die. Jesus is my soul's desire. I would see Jesus!"

Is this thy condition, my reader, at this moment? Hast thou but one
desire, and is that after Christ? Then thou art not far from the
kingdom of heaven. Hast thou but one wish in thy heart, and that one
wish that thou mayst be washed from all thy sins in Jesus' blood? Canst
thou really say, "I would give all I have to be a Christian; I would
give up everything I have and hope for, if I might but feel that I have
an interest in Christ?" Then, despite all thy fears, be of good cheer,
the Lord loveth thee, and thou shalt come out into daylight soon, and
rejoice in the liberty wherewith Christ makes men free.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Neck Or Nothing"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 17, 2009

NECK OR NOTHING

Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt
his fisher's coat unto him ... and did cast himself into
the sea.

John 21:7
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+21:7&sr=1

Have you ever had a crisis in which you deliberately and emphatically
and recklessly abandoned everything? It is a crisis of will. You may
come up to it many times externally, but it amounts to nothing. The
real deep crisis of abandonment is reached internally, not
externally. The giving up of external things may be an indication of
being in total bondage.

Have you deliberately committed your will to Jesus Christ? It is a
transaction of will, not of emotion; the emotion is simply the
gilt-edge of the transaction. If you allow emotion first, you will
never make the transaction. Do not ask God what the transaction is to
be, but make it in regard to the thing you do see, either in the
shallow or the profound place.

If you have heard Jesus Christ's voice on the billows, let your
convictions go to the winds, let your consistency go to the winds,
but maintain your relationship to Him.

NOTHING BETWEEN GOD AND ME

1 Corinthians 10:14-22
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+10:14-22

Dear Father,

Never let an idol stand between me and you. I am not stronger than
you. I don't want to provoke you to jealousy.

Help me to understand that while "all things are lawful," all
things are not helpful.

Let everything I do, whether working or resting, eating or
drinking, be done for your glory.

May I never worship myself, live for myself, or strive to please
myself. I want to worship you, to live for you, to please you.

In the name of Jesus and in reliance upon his example I ask this.
Amen.

WJD! -- Dinner with Sinners -- Matthew 9:10-12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 17, 2009

Dinner with Sinners

Jesus ate dinner at Matthew's house. Many tax collectors and
other bad people came and ate with Jesus and his followers.
The Pharisees saw that Jesus was eating with these people.
The Pharisees asked Jesus' followers, "Why does your teacher
eat with tax collectors and other bad people?" Jesus heard
the Pharisees say this. So Jesus said to the Pharisees,
"Healthy people don't need a doctor. It is the sick people
that need a doctor."

-- Matthew 9:10-12 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
It's one thing to minister to the outcasts and sinners in public
preaching; it's quite another to go to their parties. Jesus did both.
It made everyone in the religious power structure very nervous, and
eventually, very beligerent. But Jesus came to earth on a mission. A
little disapproval from some religious snobs didn't slow him down any.
Jesus' purpose, however, was not to cause controversy but to share
salvation and fellowship with his new disciple and his friends. To this
day, the best way for people to come to Christ is through a friend who
has recently become a Christian. True friendship always shares our
fellowship with our friends and Jesus!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you that Jesus had his mission so clearly in mind when he
served here. Thank you that criticism would not derail him from this
ministry. And Father, I ask for eyes to see and ears to hear so that I
might minister to others who are seeking for the answers only you
provide. In the grace and the name of the Lord Jesus I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Corinthians 15:25-26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 17, 2009

VERSE:
For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his
feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
-- 1 Corinthians 15:25-26
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:25-26

THOUGHT:
How many times have you stood over the grave of a recently
departed friend or loved one? When was the last time you tasted
grief and separation from someone you dearly loved? I don't know
about you, but I am so thankful that the Bible identifies death as
one of Jesus' enemies. I am thankful that he hates death, and the
damage and separation it causes, even more than I do. I am filled
with joy to know that death will be destroyed and immortality and
life will be given to the children of God!

PRAYER:
Holy Father, please triumph with life and mercy in the lives of
those I know who are wrestling with emotional, spiritual, and
physical death. Triumph in their lives through your power and your
grace. I look forward to the day, dear Father, when death is no
more. Lord Jesus, I not only pray this in your name, but I ask you
to speed this day. Amen.
