=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

In Her Voice, by Phil Ware

One of my good friends in ministry shared with several of us that his
prayer for a year was to more fully hear his wife's voice as she prayed
and discussed her faith in the Lord. There were several reasons for
this.

We male minister types often just hear male voices -- most frequently
our own. As we grow older, we recognize that our perceptions and view
of the world is at best, only half accurately. It's the difference
between seeing out of one eye or two: there is no depth perception: we
know that we're missing part of the reality.

So often, we listen to respond instead of listening to be touched,
molded, and changed. The hostility of modern discourse is more about
winners and losers rather than "understanders" and "empathizers."

So, we've decided to add a women's blog to go with our Just for Women
section of articles. This blog is called "A Kindred Heart" and will be
hosted by Teresa Bell Kindred, who has frequently written for us.
Here's a recent entry, plus her invitation for you!

The Sweetest Sound

Last night I drove my two year old granddaughter home after church.
Evidently she'd learned some new songs in Sunday school class. I
couldn't keep from smiling as I drove. The sound of her little
voice singing, "I like to go to church" was one of the sweetest
sounds I've ever heard. Her joy and happiness were so pure and
obvious.

Going to church should strengthen and refresh us spiritually. When
others look at us do they see the joy of Jesus in us?

How do you reflect the joy of having the Savior in your life? (I'd
love to hear from you on my blog: http://akindredheart.com/?p=4

Announcing the birth of "A Kindred Heart"

This note is the official birth announcement!

A few years ago one of my friends mentioned he had a blog. I asked him
if it was painful and he laughed. "It's not a disease, Teresa," he
said, and then went on to explain what it was.

Like many of you, I visit Heartlight daily. I am a freelance writer,
the author of several books and an avid reader. I always enjoy reading
Phil's articles and his blog. A couple of months ago I wrote to him and
suggested a blog from a woman's point of view. He was kind enough to
respond and agree that women might enjoy having a "feminine blog." "A
Kindred Heart" is the result of my asking, Phil and his co-workers
saying yes, and God encouraging us to spread the word. To have a blog
connected with Heartlight is indeed an honor and privilege. To say I am
excited about this opportunity would be an understatement. My fingers
are itching to get at the keyboard and start blogging!

This note is the official birth announcement of "A Kindred Heart" blog
for the Heartlight web site. I hope that you will visit the blog
frequently and I pray that it will encourage and uplift you. Please
pray for this endeavor, that it bring honor and glory to God.

May the good Lord bless you and keep you in His care.

Morning & Evening -- 1 Corinthians 15:20 and John 1:14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, May 10, 2008

MORNING:

"But now is Christ risen from the dead."
-- 1 Corinthians 15:20

The whole system of Christianity rests upon the fact that "Christ is
risen from the dead;" for, "If Christ be not risen, then is our
preaching vain, and your faith is also vain: ye are yet in your sins."
The divinity of Christ finds its surest proof in his resurrection,
since he was "Declared to be the Son of God with power, according to
the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead." It would
not be unreasonable to doubt his Deity if he had not risen. Moreover,
Christ's sovereignty depends upon his resurrection, "For to this end
Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of
the dead and living." Again, our justification, that choice blessing of
the covenant, is linked with Christ's triumphant victory over death and
the grave; for "He was delivered for our offences, and was raised again
for our justification." Nay, more, our very regeneration is connected
with his resurrection, for we are "Begotten again unto a lively hope by
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." And most certainly our
ultimate resurrection rests here, for, "If the Spirit of him that
raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ
from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that
dwelleth in you." If Christ be not risen, then shall we not rise; but
if he be risen then they who are asleep in Christ have not perished,
but in their flesh shall surely behold their God. Thus, the silver
thread of resurrection runs through all the believer's blessings, from
his regeneration onwards to his eternal glory, and binds them together.
How important then will this glorious fact be in his estimation, and
how will he rejoice that beyond a doubt it is established, that "now is
Christ risen from the dead."

"The promise is fulfill'd,
Redemption's work is done,
Justice with mercy's reconciled,
For God has raised his Son."

EVENING:

"The only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."
-- John 1:14

Believer, you can bear your testimony that Christ is the only begotten
of the Father, as well as the first begotten from the dead. You can
say, "He is divine to me, if he be human to all the world beside. He
has done that for me which none but a God could do. He has subdued my
stubborn will, melted a heart of adamant, opened gates of brass, and
snapped bars of iron. He hath turned for me my mourning into laughter,
and my desolation into joy; he hath led my captivity captive, and made
my heart rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. Let others
think as they will of him, to me he must be the only begotten of the
Father: blessed be his name. And he is full of grace. Ah! had he not
been I should never have been saved. He drew me when I struggled to
escape from his grace; and when at last I came all trembling like a
condemned culprit to his mercy-seat he said, 'Thy sins which are many
are all forgiven thee: be of good cheer.' And he is full of truth. True
have his promises been, not one has failed. I bear witness that never
servant had such a master as I have; never brother such a kinsman as he
has been to me; never spouse such a husband as Christ has been to my
soul; never sinner a better Saviour; never mourner a better comforter
than Christ hath been to my spirit. I want none beside him. In life he
is my life, and in death he shall be the death of death; in poverty
Christ is my riches; in sickness he makes my bed; in darkness he is my
star, and in brightness he is my sun; he is the manna of the camp in
the wilderness, and he shall be the new corn of the host when they come
to Canaan. Jesus is to me all grace and no wrath, all truth and no
falsehood: and of truth and grace he is full, infinitely full. My soul,
this night, bless with all thy might 'the only Begotten.'"

My Utmost For His Highest : "Take The Initiative"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 10, 2008

TAKE THE INITIATIVE

Add to your faith virtue...

2 Peter 1:5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2pe+1:5&sr=1

"Add" means there is something we have to do. We are in danger of
forgetting that we cannot do what God does, and that God will not do
what we can do. We cannot save ourselves nor sanctify ourselves, God
does that; but God will not give us good habits, He will not give us
character, He will not make us walk aright. We have to do all that
ourselves, we have to work out the salvation God has worked in. "Add"
means to get into the habit of doing things, and in the initial
stages it is difficult. To take the initiative is to make a
beginning, to instruct yourself in the way you have to go.

Beware of the tendency of asking the way when you know it perfectly
well. Take the initiative, stop hesitating, and take the first step.
Be resolute when God speaks, act in faith immediately on what He
says, and never revise your decisions. If you hesitate when God tells
you to do a thing, you endanger your standing in grace. Take the
initiative, take it yourself, take the step with your will now, make
it impossible to go back. Burn your bridges behind you - "I will
write that letter"; "I will pay that debt." Make the thing
inevitable.

We have to get into the habit of hearkening to God about everything,
to form the habit of finding out what God says. If when a crisis
comes, we instinctively turn to God, we know that the habit has been
formed. We have to take the initiative where we are, not where we are
not.

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

ANTICIPATION OF VICTORY

1 Corinthians 15:47-50

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:47-50

Dear Father, keeper of every promise,

Thank you for making the first man, Adam, a living soul. Thank you
even more that by your power the last man, Jesus Christ, has become
for us a life-giving spirit.

May I anticipate with hope the fact that, just as we have borne
the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the
man of heaven.

Give me patience as I reside in a body of flesh and blood, knowing
that flesh and blood does not inherit the kingdom of heaven, nor
the perishable the imperishable, but the physical has to precede
the spiritual.

In the name of Jesus I lift my voice to you on high. Amen.

Resources?

Jesus' followers answered, "But we are far away from any
towns. Where can we get enough bread to feed all these
people?"

-- Mark 8:4 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' followers were basically saying that they didn't have the
resources to meet the needs of the people around them. Sound familiar?
So often, we don't pursue opportunities to serve others because we lack
the resources. Clearly, we should count the cost before we begin a
ministry so we won't have to pull back half way through our commitment.
However, we must minister in situations that extend beyond our ability
to meet people's needs. This allows us the opportunity to see the Lord
at work as he displays his power where our strength, resources, and
insight are so limited. In our time of weakness and insufficiency, we
should realize that all effective service is done by the Lord's power
and grace.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, please forgive me for having such small dreams of serving
others. Open my eyes to the needs around me and give me the courage to
step out in faith trusting in you to provide those resources that are
needed to bless those in need. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Ecclesiastes 5:10

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 10, 2008

VERSE:
Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth
is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless.
-- Ecclesiastes 5:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ecclesiastes+5:10

THOUGHT:
We have examples of those who used their wealth wisely and who
generously blessed others and honored God in the process -- e.g.,
Barnabas in Acts 4, see also 2 Cor. 8-9 & 1 Tim. 6:17-18. But, the
New Testament repeatedly warns us about our desire for wealth.
Unrestrained, this desire can become our god and lead us to ruin (1
Tim. 6:9-10). It can become full-fledged idolatry (Col. 3:5).
Chasing after wealth is just another vain attempt to make life
meaningful. In the last two verses of Ecclesiastes, the Wise Man
reveals where true meaning is found and explains what Paul means
when he says, "Godliness with contentment is great wealth." (1 Tim.
6:6).

PRAYER:
Almighty and generous Father, thank you for blessing me so
richly. Please fill my heart with your generosity so that I can be
a conduit of blessing to those in need around me. Guard my heart
from greed, selfishness, and envy so that I may receive your gifts
with thanks and share them with joy. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's KJV Verse : Ecclesiastes 5:10

\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 10, 2008

VERSE:
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he
that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
-- Ecclesiastes 5:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ecclesiastes+5:10&translation=kjv

Amen.
