Magnifying Christ (1)

Magnifying Christ (1)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bible Verses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Phil. 1:20 According to my earnest expectation and hope that
in nothing I will be put to shame, but with all boldness, as
always, even now Christ will be magnified in my body, whether
through life or through death.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Part 1 of 3)
Now we must consider what it means to magnify Christ. The
word magnify means to make something large to our sight.
Perhaps you are wondering how Christ can be magnified since
He is already universally great. According to Ephesians 3,
the dimensions of Christ--the breadth, length, height, and
depth--are immeasurable. They are the dimensions of the
universe. Although Christ is vast, extensive, and
immeasurable, in the eyes of the praetorium, the imperial
guard of Caesar, Christ was virtually nonexistent. In their
eyes, there was not such a person as Jesus Christ. However,
Paul magnified Christ; he made Him great before the eyes of
others, especially before the eyes of those who guarded him
in prison. As a result, some eventually turned to Christ.
Evidence of this is found in 4:22, where Paul speaks of the
saints of Caesar's household. Through Paul's magnification of
Christ, even some in Caesar's household were saved.

At the time of Paul's imprisonment, the Jews were despised by
the Romans. The Romans were the conquerors, and the Jews were
the conquered ones. Among these conquered ones there was a
man named Jesus. Although He is great and most wonderful, in
the eyes of the Romans He was nothing. But as Paul was held
captive in a Roman prison, he magnified Christ, making Him to
appear great in the eyes of his captors.

In our daily living we also should magnify Christ, making Him
great in the eyes of others. Where you work or go to school
people may look down on Christ. They may ridicule Him and
take His name in vain.. Therefore, you need to let others see
Christ not in a small way, but in the way of enlargement, of
magnification. We should also magnify Him at home. The
parents of some of the young people may not believe in
Christ, but rather may despise Him. Hence, these young people
must bear the responsibility to enlarge Christ before their
parents. Instead of simply preaching to their parents about
Christ, they need to magnify Him. We need not simply the life
within, but also the living without. Through the proper
living Christ will appear to be great in the eyes of others.
Young people, let your parents see Christ's greatness in you.

Today's Verse : Psalm 22:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 29, 2009

VERSE:
They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were
not disappointed.

-- Psalm 22:5
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+22:5

THOUGHT:
This Psalm of despair, referred to by Jesus from the Cross, is
also a Psalm of hope and faith. The history of God's faithfulness
with his people Israel is an ongoing reminder that we can trust him
to deliver us. While in our human reckoning of time God's answer
may be slow in coming, his track record in history reminds us that
he will answer, deliver, and bless his people in his time. In our
worst of nightmares, we can be reminded that God is faithful and is
attentive to our cries of despair, lament, grief, agony, and fear.

PRAYER:
I ask, dear Father, that you bless your people everywhere who
find themselves in difficult situations. Empower them with your
Spirit and bless them with a change for the better in their dire
situation. Please hear the cries of your people and act swiftly for
their protection, preservation, and vindication. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: It Takes Faith

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
It Takes Faith
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Remember, O God, that my life is but a breath; my eyes will never see happiness again.

Notice I didn't give you the scripture reference this morning. I'm going to keep you guessing for a moment.

You know, when you're in the middle of a trial, its pretty hard to see God's hand, isn't it? The one who said the above quote felt that way. I know when I can't understand what God is allowing to happen in my life, I start to question His love and His plan. I start to allow Satan to trip me up with doubts.

Oh, intellectually, I know that God is still in control, that everything works for the good for those who love Him. (Do you ever resent being told that so many times in the middle of a crisis?) I know that every time and in every situation God has always come through for me.

I know that the scripture says that if I'm a child of God, and if I wait on Him, He will never let me be put to shame. He will never leave me nor forsake me. He w ill always make my paths straight.

I will admit, it takes faith to keep on trusting during the bumpy days of life. But, God's track record is pretty good, isn't it? In fact, He's flawless!

Just ask Job! That's right, Job 7:7 is our scripture for today. And, if you've read the end of the story, Job turns out alright! God comes through again!

Sure didn't seem like it at the time, did it Job?

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Enough Is Enough, by Bill Brant

Have you ever wondered how he can stand it? Isn't there some point when
He says "Enough is enough"? Don't you think He must retch when we curse
Him, use His name to curse others, justify killing men, women,
children, because He is "on our side"?

When does He draw the line and say "The horrid things you do to
yourselves and the planet you live on is more than I can stomach. Go to
Ghenna!" Ghenna is used only twelve times in the New Testament, 11 by
Jesus Himself as He talks about the place separated from God. The place
that Revelation calls "the second death ..." The place where there is
eternal damnation and suffering.

The question remains right now, after consistent disappointment and
disregard for His love, when does the Creator tell his creation to Go
To Hell?

He Didn't.

He Doesn't.

Since before the world was formed, God hasn't given up on his children.
He offers them, you by name, a way to live with Him forever.

When does the Creator tell his creation to Go To Hell?

God Almighty offers you that hope: Unearned, undeserved, unexplainable.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."

God allowed His son to pay the debt of our sins that we were/are
incapable of satisfying. And Jesus gives us the receipt that simply
says redeemed.

Do you think God's told you to go to hell? You don't have that receipt
marked redeemed? There were others that felt the same way. View their
stories on www.hopeforlife.org or if I can help put you in touch with
some friends of mine who know the liberating feeling of redemption,
email me at bbrant@heraldoftruth.org.

Morning & Evening -- Colossians 1:28 and Luke 2:20

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

MORNING:

"Perfect in Christ Jesus."
-- Colossians 1:28

Do you not feel in your own soul that perfection is not in you? Does
not every day teach you that? Every tear which trickles from your eye,
weeps "imperfection"; every harsh word which proceeds from your lip,
mutters "imperfection." You have too frequently had a view of your own
heart to dream for a moment of any perfection in yourself. But amidst
this sad consciousness of imperfection, here is comfort for you-you are
"perfect in Christ Jesus." In God's sight, you are "complete in him;"
even now you are "accepted in the Beloved." But there is a second
perfection, yet to be realized, which is sure to all the seed. Is it
not delightful to look forward to the time when every stain of sin
shall be removed from the believer, and he shall be presented faultless
before the throne, without spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing? The
Church of Christ then will be so pure, that not even the eye of
Omniscience will see a spot or blemish in her; so holy and so glorious,
that Hart did not go beyond the truth when he said-

"With my Saviour's garments on,
Holy as the Holy One."

Then shall we know, and taste, and feel the happiness of this vast but
short sentence, "Complete in Christ." Not till then shall we fully
comprehend the heights and depths of the salvation of Jesus. Doth not
thy heart leap for joy at the thought of it? Black as thou art, thou
shalt be white one day; filthy as thou art, thou shalt be clean. Oh, it
is a marvellous salvation this! Christ takes a worm and transforms it
into an angel; Christ takes a black and deformed thing and makes it
clean and matchless in his glory, peerless in his beauty, and fit to be
the companion of seraphs. O my soul, stand and admire this blessed
truth of perfection in Christ.

EVENING:

"And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for
all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told
unto them."
-- Luke 2:20

What was the subject of their praise? They praised God for what they
had heard-for the good tidings of great joy that a Saviour was born
unto them. Let us copy them; let us also raise a song of thanksgiving
that we have heard of Jesus and his salvation. They also praised God
for what they had seen. There is the sweetest music-what we have
experienced, what we have felt within, what we have made our own-"the
things which we have made touching the King." It is not enough to hear
about Jesus: mere hearing may tune the harp, but the fingers of living
faith must create the music. If you have seen Jesus with the God-giving
sight of faith, suffer no cobwebs to linger among the harp strings, but
loud to the praise of sovereign grace, awake your psaltery and harp.
One point for which they praised God was the agreement between what
they had heard and what they had seen. Observe the last sentence-"As it
was told unto them." Have you not found the gospel to be in yourselves
just what the Bible said it would be? Jesus said he would give you
rest-have you not enjoyed the sweetest peace in him? He said you should
have joy, and comfort, and life through believing in him-have you not
received all these? Are not his ways ways of pleasantness, and his
paths paths of peace? Surely you can say with the queen of Sheba, "The
half has not been told me." I have found Christ more sweet than his
servants ever said he was. I looked upon his likeness as they painted
it, but it was a mere daub compared with himself; for the King in his
beauty outshines all imaginable loveliness. Surely what we have "seen"
keeps pace with, nay, far exceeds, what we have "heard." Let us, then,
glorify and praise God for a Saviour so precious, and so satisfying.

My Utmost For His Highest : "But It Is Hardly Credible That One Could So Persecute Jesus!"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 28, 2009

BUT IT IS HARDLY CREDIBLE THAT ONE COULD SO PERSECUTE JESUS!

Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me?

Acts 26:14
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ac+26:14&sr=1

Am I set on my own way for God? We are never free from this snare
until we are brought into the experience of the baptism of the Holy
Ghost and fire. Obstinacy and self-will will always stab Jesus
Christ. It may hurt no one else, but it wounds His Spirit. Whenever
we are obstinate and self-willed and set upon our own ambitions, we
are hurting Jesus. Every time we stand on our rights and insist that
this is what we intend to do, we are persecuting Jesus. Whenever we
stand on our dignity we systematically vex and grieve His Spirit; and
when the knowledge comes home that it is Jesus Whom we have been
persecuting all the time, it is the most crushing revelation there
could be.

Is the word of God tremendously keen to me as I hand it on to you, or
does my life give the lie to the things I profess to teach? I may
teach sanctification and yet exhibit the spirit of Satan, the spirit
that persecutes Jesus Christ. The Spirit of Jesus is conscious of one
thing only - a perfect oneness with the Father, and He says, "Learn
of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart." All I do ought to be
founded on a perfect oneness with Him, not on a self-willed
determination to be godly. This will mean that I can be easily put
upon, easily over-reached, easily ignored; but if I submit to it for
His sake, I prevent Jesus Christ being persecuted.

Praying with Paul : "Inner Conflict"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

INNER CONFLICT

Romans 7:1-20
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+7:1-20

Dear Father,

I have died to the world (and to the idea that I can be justified
by keeping a set of rules) through the body of Christ that I might
belong to Christ.

He was raised from the dead that I might belong to him and bear
fruit in his name. Help me to bear fruit for you in the way I live.
Let me serve you in the new life of the Spirit.

Give me strength to resist suggestions to do evil. For even though
I want to do good, opportunities to do evil lie close at hand.
Don't let my inner rebellion convince me to do the opposite of what
you command.

In the name of Jesus resolve the conflicts of my life and give me
a clear course to walk as I follow him. Amen.

WJD! -- Only One to Worship -- Matthew 4:8-10

Only One to Worship

Then the devil led Jesus to the top of a very high mountain.
The devil showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world, and all
the great things that are in those kingdoms. The devil said,
"If you will bow down and worship me, I will give you all
these things." Jesus said to the devil, "Go away from me,
Satan! It is written {in the Scriptures}, 'You must worship
the Lord your God. Serve only him!'"

-- Matthew 4:8-10 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
What's our breaking point? At what point would we quit honoring God and
begin to choose Satan's path? Not a very comfortable question, is it?
What if we knew someone had power over the world and would give it to
us if we would just acknowledge him as king? What if we knew we would
suffer and be offered as a sacrifice because we would not acknowledge
him as king? Jesus is Lord. Not because he took Satan's phony bargain,
but because he refused it. "Away from me!" Jesus ordered and Satan
obeyed -- as the next verse describes. But the cost of this victory
meant a far more gruesome battle. But Jesus refused to compromise his
devotion to the Father even at the cost of his own comfort, acceptance,
and life. Jesus won these battles over Satan and repeatedly chose to
walk the path of total devotion to God, at incredible cost, to redeem
us!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Lord my God, my heart is filled with admiration, wonder, thanks, and
praise. Your plan to redeem me from my sins and adopt me into your
family comes at such a high cost to you and Jesus. Thank you for saving
me. Thank you for redeeming me from the debt of sin. Thank you for
dying to prevent death's power controlling me. Thank you. In the name
of the Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you!
