Today's Verse : Daniel 2:27-28

VERSE:
Daniel replied, "No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can
explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a
God in heaven who reveals mysteries."
-- Daniel 2:27-28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Daniel+2:27-28

THOUGHT:
What is the bedrock of your faith in uncertain times? Who knows
where all the upheaval, tumult, and uncertainty are truly heading?
In whom can you find the solution to your most perplexing problems?
For Daniel and his friends, there was one solid and true answer:
the Lord God of Israel. It wasn't in the so-called wise teachers of
the day. It wasn't in the religions of the East. It wasn't in the
super-spiritualists. It was in God alone.

PRAYER:
Dear Father, you are the One True and Living God! There is no
one or no thing that can compare to you in splendor, righteousness,
and majesty. To you, Father, belongs all praise, honor, and glory.
I trust you to lead my life and guide me into the understanding I
need to do your will. In the name of the Lord Jesus I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Pray Fervently One

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Pray Fervently One
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel (who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a vision. At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over. Daniel 10:1-3 NIV

Daniel was serious about prayer. When Daniel received the revelation about a great war, he knew things were serious. He knew this was a situation that would require the hand of God. Daniel didn't worry about it, but he deliberately made the matter the focus of his attention for three weeks. He prayed until He had an answer from God.

How persistent are you and I in our prayers? When we face a major challenge in life, how do we respond? Do we throw up a quick sentence prayer, then take matters in our own hands by trying to fix things? Or, like Daniel, do we make the sit uation a matter of real concern before God, pouring out our heart to Him, fasting and praying until we receive His response?

Not every situation in our life requires the desperate measures that Daniel used. God does allow us to make certain decisions in life, such as what color car we drive, what brand of cereal we eat, and many times, even what job we will have. Under the grace of God, we have such a wide lattitude of freedom to make choices, and God equips us with wisdom to make Godly decisions. God's main concern is always about who we are in our heart, since God looks first at the heart.

There are those matters in life, however, that require the direct input from God. Those life-changing decisions, which have the potential to affect our spiritual character or the lives of other Christians, are matters which require a leading from God. At those times, we need to commit everything we have to God in prayer and the reading of scripture, until God provides for u s His answer.

Daniel waited upon God, and, as we will see tomorrow, God provided him an answer. As you and I wait upon God, He will do the same for us.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Light for Living, by Rubel Shelly

When I was a boy of about ten, my mother and father took me to Carlsbad
Caverns. I still remember the gigantic stalagmites and stalactites. I
can almost feel the cold of being deep inside the earth on a hot summer
day. But my most vivid memory is of the moment our guide had all of us
find a place to sit down and -- after warning of what was about to
happen – turned off all the electric lights that had been put inside
the dark belly of the earth.

I felt like I was tumbling head over heels. My heart raced. With one
hand I grasped the rock ledge on which I was sitting and with the other
reached for my father.

Fortunately, the tour guide didn't allow it to last long. He turned on
his flashlight. And it looked as bright as a million candle-power
searchlight!

An ordinary flashlight that costs $3.00, complete with batteries, can
push back the encompassing, frightening darkness of Carlsbad Caverns. A
beam that would be hardly noticeable at ground level on a sunny day
looks like a laser in deep darkness. As soon as it appeared, my stomach
gave up its tumbling sensation. My lunch became stable again.

Jesus is still the Light of the World.

I could see my parents' faces in outline again and knew I wasn't alone.
I sensed that the single light in our guide's hand heralded the return
of the lights which had guided us previously and whose presence we had
taken for granted.

When God created Planet Earth for our habitation, he came onto a scene
that was formless and dark. He pushed back the darkness with light,
then set about to bring order to chaos. It takes light for life to
survive and thrive.

When Jesus was re-creating the human race and restoring hope to
despairing people, he came onto a scene made formless and dark again.
This darkness had come by human rebellion against his Father and
humanity's inhumanity to its own. In his birth, teaching, lifestyle,
and personal victory over death in the resurrection, he pushed back the
darkness with the light of heaven's bright glory. To use John's
language, Jesus was the light shining into our darkness; the darkness
could not conquer the light he brought.

If you ever feel the head-over-heels sensation that comes of being in
the deep darkness, look in his direction. Jesus is still the Light of
the World. And it is only in the presence of light that you can live,
grow, and flourish.

"I am the world's Light," Jesus said. "No one who follows me
stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live
in" (John 8:12 MSG).

Morning & Evening -- Jonah 2:9 and Leviticus 13:13

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

MORNING:

"Salvation is of the Lord."
-- Jonah 2:9

Salvation is the work of God. It is he alone who quickens the soul
"dead in trespasses and sins," and it is he also who maintains the soul
in its spiritual life. He is both "Alpha and Omega." "Salvation is of
the Lord." If I am prayerful, God makes me prayerful; if I have graces,
they are God's gifts to me; if I hold on in a consistent life, it is
because he upholds me with his hand. I do nothing whatever towards my
own preservation, except what God himself first does in me. Whatever I
have, all my goodness is of the Lord alone. Wherein I sin, that is my
own; but wherein I act rightly, that is of God, wholly and completely.
If I have repulsed a spiritual enemy, the Lord's strength nerved my
arm. Do I live before men a consecrated life? It is not I, but Christ
who liveth in me. Am I sanctified? I did not cleanse myself: God's Holy
Spirit sanctifies me. Am I weaned from the world? I am weaned by God's
chastisements sanctified to my good. Do I grow in knowledge? The great
Instructor teaches me. All my jewels were fashioned by heavenly art. I
find in God all that I want; but I find in myself nothing but sin and
misery. "He only is my rock and my salvation." Do I feed on the Word?
That Word would be no food for me unless the Lord made it food for my
soul, and helped me to feed upon it. Do I live on the manna which comes
down from heaven? What is that manna but Jesus Christ himself
incarnate, whose body and whose blood I eat and drink? Am I continually
receiving fresh increase of strength? Where do I gather my might? My
help cometh from heaven's hills: without Jesus I can do nothing. As a
branch cannot bring forth fruit except it abide in the vine, no more
can I, except I abide in him. What Jonah learned in the great deep, let
me learn this morning in my closet: "Salvation is of the Lord."

EVENING:

"Behold, if the leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall
pronounce him clean that hath the plague."
-- Leviticus 13:13

Strange enough this regulation appears, yet there was wisdom in it, for
the throwing out of the disease proved that the constitution was sound.
This evening it may be well for us to see the typical teaching of so
singular a rule. We, too, are lepers, and may read the law of the leper
as applicable to ourselves. When a man sees himself to be altogether
lost and ruined, covered all over with the defilement of sin, and in no
part free from pollution; when he disclaims all righteousness of his
own, and pleads guilty before the Lord, then he is clean through the
blood of Jesus, and the grace of God. Hidden, unfelt, unconfessed
iniquity is the true leprosy; but when sin is seen and felt, it has
received its deathblow, and the Lord looks with eyes of mercy upon the
soul afflicted with it. Nothing is more deadly than self-righteousness,
or more hopeful than contrition. We must confess that we are "nothing
else but sin," for no confession short of this will be the whole truth;
and if the Holy Spirit be at work with us, convincing us of sin, there
will be no difficulty about making such an acknowledgment -it will
spring spontaneously from our lips. What comfort does the text afford
to truly awakened sinners: the very circumstance which so grievously
discouraged them is here turned into a sign and symptom of a hopeful
state! Stripping comes before clothing; digging out the foundation is
the first thing in building-and a thorough sense of sin is one of the
earliest works of grace in the heart. O thou poor leprous sinner,
utterly destitute of a sound spot, take heart from the text, and come
as thou art to Jesus-

"For let our debts be what they may, however great or small,
As soon as we have nought to pay, our Lord forgives us all.
'Tis perfect poverty alone that sets the soul at large:
While we can call one mite our own, we have no full discharge."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Inferior Misgivings About Jesus"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 26, 2008

INFERIOR MISGIVINGS ABOUT JESUS

Sir, Thou hast nothing to draw with.

John 4:11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+4:11&sr=1

"I am impressed with the wonder of what God says, but He cannot
expect me really to live it out in the details of my life!" When it
comes to facing Jesus Christ on His own merits, our attitude is one
of pious superiority - Your ideals are high and they impress us, but
in touch with actual things, it cannot be done. Each of us thinks
about Jesus in this way in some particular. These misgivings about
Jesus start from the amused questions put to us when we talk of our
transactions with God - Where are you going to get your money from?
How are you going to be looked after? Or they start from ourselves
when we tell Jesus that our case is a bit too hard for Him. It is all
very well to say "Trust in the Lord," but a man must live, and Jesus
has nothing to draw with - nothing whereby to give us these things.
Beware of the pious fraud in you which says - I have no misgivings
about Jesus, only about myself. None of us ever had misgivings about
ourselves; we know exactly what we cannot do, but we do have
misgivings about Jesus. We are rather hurt at the idea that He can do
what we cannot.

My misgivings arise from the fact that I ransack my own person to
find out how He will he able to do it. My questions spring from the
depths of my own inferiority. If I detect these misgivings in myself,
let me bring them to the light and confess them - "Lord, I have had
misgivings about Thee, I have not believed in Thy wits apart from my
own; I have not believed in Thine almighty power apart from my finite
understanding of it."

Praying with Paul : "The Last Days"

THE LAST DAYS

Romans 13:11-14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+13:11-14

Dear Father, object of my desires,

Everything points to the fact that we live in the last days.
Knowing what hour it is, let me wake up from my sleep! For
salvation is nearer to me now than when I first believed. The night
is far gone. The day is at hand.

Help me cast off all the works of darkness and put on the armor of
light. Let me conduct myself as becomes one of your people, not in
reveling or drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not
in quarreling or jealousy.

Rather, let me put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no
provisions for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Telling Stories

"Listen! A farmer went out to plant his seed. While the
farmer was planting, some seed fell by the road. The birds
came and ate all that seed. Some seed fell on rocky ground.
The ground there did not have enough dirt. The seed grew very
fast there because the ground was not deep. But the sun rose
and the plants were burned. The plants died because they did
not have deep roots. Some other seed fell among thorny weeds.
The weeds grew and stopped the good plants from growing. So
those plants did not make grain. Some other seed fell on good
ground. In the good ground, the seed began to grow. It grew
and made grain. Some plants had 30 grains, other plants had
60 grains, and some had 100 grains." Then Jesus said, "You
people that hear me, listen!"

-- Mark 4:3-9 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
One of the most important questions we need to seriously ask ourselves
is this: "Am I willing to truly listen to Jesus, hear what he says, and
do what he asks of me?" The parables are powerful learning stories that
plant the Word of Jesus deep in our hearts. But, we must be committed
to hearing what is said so that it takes root, grows, and produces
fruit. We determine the type of soil we offer to the good news of
Jesus. So let's ask the Father to help us hear and put into practice
Jesus' words.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Almighty God, my Abba Father, open my heart to the teaching of Jesus.
Remove the barriers that I have placed between your will and my proper
hearing of your truth. I so much want your Son's words to come to life
in me and bear fruit. Mold me, correct me, and mature me as I open my
heart, my life, and my will to the words of your Son. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.
