Today's Verse : Jeremiah 2:28

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 28, 2008

VERSE:
Where then are the gods you made for yourselves? Let them come
if they can save you when you are in trouble! For you have as many
gods as you have towns, O Judah.
-- Jeremiah 2:28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Jeremiah+2:28

THOUGHT:
Let's focus on one simple concept today. Based on the allocation
of our time, interest, lifestyle, expenditures of money, and
speech, who or what is our god? Is it the Lord God?

PRAYER:
I am convicted, dear Heavenly Father, of how many false gods
crowd into my world and seek my attention. Please bless me and
empower me with an undivided heart. I want my heart to be free from
anything false that might distort or diminish my loyalty to you. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Pray Fervently Two

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Pray Fervently Two
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of the finest gold around his waist. He said, "Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you." And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling. Then he continued, "Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them." Daniel 10:4-5, 11-12 NIV

Yesterday we saw how Daniel reacted to a situation he couldn't control. He was warned in a revelation that there would be a great war. Daniel took the situation very serious and went to the Lord in prayer. For three weeks (21 days), Daniel fasted and prayed, mourning to the Lord for His response and help. On the twenty-fourth da y, God answered his prayers.

Now, when you read God's answer, you may not see the tremendous breakthrough. God sends His angel to basically say, "Don't be afraid, everything will be okay." God didn't tell Daniel there would be no war. He didn't say He had changed His mind, but God did tell Daniel not to be afraid, assuring Daniel that God was still in control. It was enough for Daniel to continue on with life again.

What are you waiting to hear from God? Are you trying to "fix" everything on your own, or are you consistently coming to Him in prayer, turning it all over to God, waiting for His response? If you will do this, keeping your faith in who He is and that He can do as He says He can, and that He will, you will begin to see God bring forth an answer.

It may not be that He is going to "fix everything". Instead, it may simply be, as was the case with Daniel, that God tells you "Do not fear", and then encourages you that everything will be okay. But, when God comes to you with an answer, you will be strengthened once again, you will sense His peace, and you will be able to exhibit His joy...even in spite of the circumstances around you.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Changing the Past, by Tim Archer

Alfred had dedicated himself to the science of war. A talented
scientist and creative inventor, he studied ways to create new and
better weapons. Specializing in explosives, he created dynamite. While
you may think that he was a man who enjoyed war, quite the opposite was
true. He felt that if he could perfect the instruments of war, it would
be impossible for man to wage war. He once said, "My dynamite will
sooner lead to peace than a thousand world conventions. As soon as men
will find that in one instant whole armies can be utterly destroyed,
they surely will abide by golden peace."

That dream of peace through improved weapons was shattered by World War
I. Alfred's dynamite and other inventions were used to kill more and to
kill faster. Yet he continued on his quest for peace.

Only God can change our past.

One morning, Alfred picked up the paper and was shocked to read his own
obituary. Through an error, a French paper had printed Alfred's
obituary instead of his brother's. It was a terrible shock to this
peace-loving man to see himself labeled as "the Merchant of Death,"
portrayed as the man responsible for thousands of deaths. This was not
how Alfred wanted to be remembered. So in his remaining years, he
worked with lawyers to set up a foundation that would give yearly
prizes for chemistry, physics, medicine and literature. Today if you
ask someone about Alfred Nobel, few will call him "the Merchant of
Death" nor connect his name with dynamite. We remember, instead, the
Nobel peace prize.

We may not be able to change our legacy that dramatically, but we can
do something even better. We can take our past mistakes, our old lives,
the guilt and regrets that we've built up through the years, and have
them erased forever. God has promised to separate us from them "as far
as the east is from the west" (Psalm 103:12) ... and that's pretty far!
God will look on us as though we'd never done anything wrong.
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has
gone, the new has come!" (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Wouldn't you like to wake up tomorrow and know that you can be proud of
every aspect of your life? Jesus can make it possible. A new start, a
clean slate. It's there for the taking. Contact me at

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 91:9 and Micah 5:2

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

MORNING:

"Thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most
High, thy habitation."
-- Psalms 91:9

The Israelites in the wilderness were continually exposed to change.
Whenever the pillar stayed its motion, the tents were pitched; but
tomorrow, ere the morning sun had risen, the trumpet sounded, the ark
was in motion, and the fiery, cloudy pillar was leading the way through
the narrow defiles of the mountain, up the hill side, or along the arid
waste of the wilderness. They had scarcely time to rest a little before
they heard the sound of "Away! this is not your rest; you must still be
onward journeying towards Canaan!" They were never long in one place.
Even wells and palm trees could not detain them. Yet they had an
abiding home in their God, his cloudy pillar was their roof-tree, and
its flame by night their household fire. They must go onward from place
to place, continually changing, never having time to settle, and to
say, "Now we are secure; in this place we shall dwell." "Yet," says
Moses, "though we are always changing, Lord, thou hast been our
dwelling-place throughout all generations." The Christian knows no
change with regard to God. He may be rich to-day and poor to-morrow; he
may be sickly to-day and well to-morrow; he may be in happiness to-day,
to-morrow he may be distressed-but there is no change with regard to
his relationship to God. If he loved me yesterday, he loves me to-day.
My unmoving mansion of rest is my blessed Lord. Let prospects be
blighted; let hopes be blasted; let joy be withered; let mildews
destroy everything; I have lost nothing of what I have in God. He is
"my strong habitation whereunto I can continually resort." I am a
pilgrim in the world, but at home in my God. In the earth I wander, but
in God I dwell in a quiet habitation.

EVENING:

"Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting"
-- Micah 5:2

The Lord Jesus had goings forth for his people as their representative
before the throne, long before they appeared upon the stage of time. It
was "from everlasting" that he signed the compact with his Father, that
he would pay blood for blood, suffering for suffering, agony for agony,
and death for death, in the behalf of his people; it was "from
everlasting" that he gave himself up without a murmuring word. That
from the crown of his head to the sole of his foot he might sweat great
drops of blood, that he might be spit upon, pierced, mocked, rent
asunder, and crushed beneath the pains of death. His goings forth as
our Surety were from everlasting. Pause, my soul, and wonder! Thou hast
goings forth in the person of Jesus "from everlasting." Not only when
thou wast born into the world did Christ love thee, but his delights
were with the sons of men before there were any sons of men. Often did
he think of them; from everlasting to everlasting he had set his
affection upon them. What! my soul, has he been so long about thy
salvation, and will not he accomplish it? Has he from everlasting been
going forth to save me, and will he lose me now? What! Has he carried
me in his hand, as his precious jewel, and will he now let me slip from
between his fingers? Did he choose me before the mountains were brought
forth, or the channels of the deep were digged, and will he reject me
now? Impossible! I am sure he would not have loved me so long if he had
not been a changeless Lover. If he could grow weary of me, he would
have been tired of me long before now. If he had not loved me with a
love as deep as hell, and as strong as death, he would have turned from
me long ago. Oh, joy above all joys, to know that I am his everlasting
and inalienable inheritance, given to him by his Father or ever the
earth was! Everlasting love shall be the pillow for my head this night.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Impoverished Ministry Of Jesus"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 27, 2008

IMPOVERISHED MINISTRY OF JESUS

From whence then hast Thou that living water?

John 4:11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+4:11&sr=1

"The well is deep" - and a great deal deeper than the Samaritan woman
knew! Think of the depths of human nature, of human life, think of
the depths of the "wells" in you. Have you been impoverishing the
ministry of Jesus so that He can not do anything? Suppose there is a
well of fathomless trouble inside your heart, and Jesus comes and
says - "Let not your heart be troubled"; and you shrug your shoulders
and say, "But, Lord, the well is deep; You cannot draw up quietness
and comfort out of it." No, He will bring them down from above. Jesus
does not bring anything up from the wells of human nature. We limit
the Holy One of Israel by remembering what we have allowed Him to do
for us in the past, and by saying, "Of course I cannot expect God to
do this thing." The thing that taxes almightiness is the very thing
which we as disciples of Jesus ought to believe He will do. We
impoverish His ministry the moment we forget He is Almighty; the
impoverishment is in us, not in Him. We will come to Jesus as
Comforter or as Sympathizer, but we will not come to Him as Almighty.

The reason some of us are such poor specimens of Christianity is
because we have no Almighty Christ. We have Christian attributes and
experiences, but there is no abandonment to Jesus Christ. When we get
into difficult circumstances, we impoverish His ministry by saying -
"Of course He cannot do any thing," and we struggle down to the deeps
and try to get the water for ourselves. Beware of the satisfaction of
sinking back and saying - "It can't be done"; you know it can be done
if you look to Jesus. The well of your incompleteness is deep, but
make the effort and look away to Him.

Praying with Paul : "Staying Awake"

STAYING AWAKE

Romans 13:11-14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+13:11-14

Dear Father, victorious deliverer,

May I be found in Christ, not trusting any righteousness of my
own. Let me know him and the power of his resurrection. May I share
his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, so I might attain
the resurrection of the dead.

O God, let me obtain it! Let me be awake! Let me put on the armor
of light! Let me put on the Lord Jesus and his righteousness, and
be found in him! Let me trust, obey, even suffer, in order to have
the victory!

In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Your Understanding

Later, Jesus was away from the people. The twelve apostles
and Jesus' other followers asked him about the stories. Jesus
said, "Only you can know the secret truth about the kingdom
of God. But to those other people I tell everything by using
stories.

-- Mark 4:10-11 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Why would Jesus conceal his message from outsiders? First, they can't
understand it properly. If his disciples have a hard time understanding
Jesus, then how would those who don't share their passion for the work
of God ever understand it? Second, Jesus is redefining his followers'
understanding about the Kingdom of God. His terms and ideas would be
distorted and misused by others. Third, he is entrusting his message to
them, his chosen followers, to share the message with others later in
their ministry when he is gone. Not every message is appropriate to
share with everyone. Certain times are more appropriate for sharing
some information than other times. In addition, special messengers have
to be trained to share the truth before it is shared. So we ask God to
give us the sense of time and message to be useful servants for his
kingdom.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, please give me wisdom in knowing when to speak and when to be
silent. I want to share your message in the proper way, at the proper
time, to the proper people. Give me patience so that I can keep my
mouth shut when silence is needed. Give me courage to speak when the
time is right to speak. May the words of my mouth and the meditations
of my heart be pleasing to you and a blessing to others. In Jesus' name
I pray. Amen.
