Making Confession to God

Making Confession to God

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 John 1:8 If we say that we do not have sin, we are
deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (9) If we
confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us
our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If we are willing to be enlightened by the Lord, He will
show us many unrighteous things. Once we see that we are
wrong, we should not be afraid of confessing our wrong. When
we first become a Christian, it is inevitable that we will
make mistakes. The worst thing is being ignorant of our
mistakes or refusing to admit our mistakes once we know
them. Being ignorant of our mistakes is being in darkness.
Sins can be forgiven, but darkness cannot be forgiven. If we
confess our sins, the Lord will forgive us. But darkness
makes us ignorant of our sins; therefore, we cannot enjoy
forgiveness.

If we confess our sins, He, according to His word and based
on the redemption through the blood of Jesus, forgives us
because He must be faithful in His word and righteous in the
blood of Jesus; otherwise, He would be unfaithful and
unrighteous. Our confession is needed for His forgiveness.
Such forgiveness of God, which is for the restoration of our
fellowship with Him, is conditional; it depends on our
confession. Both God's forgiveness and God's cleansing are
needed for the restoration of our broken fellowship with
God, that we may enjoy Him in uninterrupted fellowship with
a good conscience, a conscience void of offense.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Faith: Growing in the Right Direction, by Russ Lawson

Faith is almost always a challenge for us to fully define. We know the
technical definition from Scripture:

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for
is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see
(Hebrews 11:1 NLT).

However, that doesn't always tell us what we want to know about faith
.. especially when it comes to our faith.

Many people who ask about faith are really asking, "How can I know if I
have enough faith? What proof is there that I am pleasing to God?"

Most of us, at some time or another, imitate the character of the man
whose son was possessed by an evil spirit. Jesus questioned his faith
and his reply was, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" (Mark
9:24 NIV). I like another translation of this verse that translates
Jesus' words this way: "I do believe, but help me not to doubt!" (NLT)

I believe but help my unbelief.

So, how do you measure your faith? Does it mean you never question or
never doubt anything about your faith? Perhaps, but since most of us
can't help questioning things from time to time, this may not be a good
basis for judging the strength of our faith. As I was reading a
discussion regarding the wilderness wanderings of the Israelite nation,
the following statement was made: "Faith is often better judged by
direction rather than by distance." This is an important perspective!
We are saying something like, "Lord, I believe, but help me believe
even more!"

One time when we returned to Kenya, East Africa, I brought some
American sweet corn seed with me. I did all of the preparation for the
soil, planted and watered the crop properly, yet had very poor results.
The corn, which when planted in America would have reached 8 to 10 feet
in height, only grew to be about 4 feet tall, with stunted little ears
of corn. The Kenyans found this to be a great source of amusement as
they laughed at the American corn. I found out later, that to grow
properly, the corn required a longer daily exposure to the sun!

To be honest, there are times I don't feel that my faith has allowed me
to grow very tall in my spiritual life. Just like the corn, there are
always goals that I have set that seem to be just out of reach. The
point, however, is that we are growing in the direction of the goal.
The corn did not cease to be corn, but rather gave the best it had to
produce the small ears it was able to produce. It was at the mercy of
its circumstances and environment, yet still reaching in the right
direction -- heavenward!

We may, on occasion, need to pray, "I do believe, but help me not to
doubt!" But we never should stop reaching in the right direction! You
see, that's what God is really asking each of us to do! And if we are
having trouble growing spiritually, maybe it's because we aren't
placing ourselves in the position to get enough exposure to "The Son."

Morning & Evening -- Exodus 8:28 and 1 Corinthians 7:20

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 27, 2008

MORNING:

"Only ye shall not go very far away."
-- Exodus 8:28

This is a crafty word from the lip of the arch-tyrant Pharaoh. If the
poor bondaged Israelites must needs go out of Egypt, then he bargains
with them that it shall not be very far away; not too far for them to
escape the terror of his arms, and the observation of his spies. After
the same fashion, the world loves not the non-conformity of
nonconformity, or the dissidence of dissent; it would have us be more
charitable and not carry matters with too severe a hand. Death to the
world, and burial with Christ, are experiences which carnal minds treat
with ridicule, and hence the ordinance which sets them forth is almost
universally neglected, and even condemned. Worldly wisdom recommends
the path of compromise, and talks of "moderation." According to this
carnal policy, purity is admitted to be very desirable, but we are
warned against being too precise; truth is of course to be followed,
but error is not to be severely denounced. "Yes," says the world, "be
spiritually minded by all means, but do not deny yourself a little gay
society, an occasional ball, and a Christmas visit to a theatre. What's
the good of crying down a thing when it is so fashionable, and
everybody does it?" Multitudes of professors yield to this cunning
advice, to their own eternal ruin. If we would follow the Lord wholly,
we must go right away into the wilderness of separation, and leave the
Egypt of the carnal world behind us. We must leave its maxims, its
pleasures, and its religion too, and go far away to the place where the
Lord calls his sanctified ones. When the town is on fire, our house
cannot be too far from the flames. When the plague is abroad, a man
cannot be too far from its haunts. The further from a viper the better,
and the further from worldly conformity the better. To all true
believers let the trumpet-call be sounded, "Come ye out from among
them, be ye separate."

EVENING:

"Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was
called."
-- 1 Corinthians 7:20

Some persons have the foolish notion that the only way in which they
can live for God is by becoming ministers, missionaries, or Bible
women. Alas! how many would be shut out from any opportunity of
magnifying the Most High if this were the case. Beloved, it is not
office, it is earnestness; it is not position, it is grace which will
enable us to glorify God. God is most surely glorified in that
cobbler's stall, where the godly worker, as he plies the awl, sings of
the Saviour's love, aye, glorified far more than in many a prebendal
stall where official religiousness performs its scanty duties. The name
of Jesus is glorified by the poor unlearned carter as he drives his
horse, and blesses his God, or speaks to his fellow labourer by the
roadside, as much as by the popular divine who, throughout the country,
like Boanerges, is thundering out the gospel. God is glorified by our
serving him in our proper vocations. Take care, dear reader, that you
do not forsake the path of duty by leaving your occupation, and take
care you do not dishonour your profession while in it. Think little of
yourselves, but do not think too little of your callings. Every lawful
trade may be sanctified by the gospel to noblest ends. Turn to the
Bible, and you will find the most menial forms of labour connected
either with most daring deeds of faith, or with persons whose lives
have been illustrious for holiness. Therefore be not discontented with
your calling. Whatever God has made your position, or your work, abide
in that, unless you are quite sure that he calls you to something else.
Let your first care be to glorify God to the utmost of your power where
you are. Fill your present sphere to his praise, and if he needs you in
another he will show it you. This evening lay aside vexatious ambition,
and embrace peaceful content.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Overshadowing Personal Deliverance"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 27, 2008

THE OVERSHADOWING PERSONAL DELIVERANCE

I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

Jeremiah 1:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=jer+1:8&sr=1

God promised Jeremiah that He would deliver him personally - "Thy
life will I give unto thee for a prey." That is all God promises His
children. Wherever God sends us, He will guard our lives. Our
personal property and possessions are a matter of indifference, we
have to sit loosely to all those things; if we do not, there will be
panic and heartbreak and distress. That is the inwardness of the
overshadowing of personal deliverance.

The Sermon on the Mount indicates that when we are on Jesus Christ's
errands, there is no time to stand up for ourselves. Jesus says, in
effect, Do not be bothered with whether you are being justly dealt
with or not. To look for justice is a sign of deflection from
devotion to Him. Never look for justice in this world, but never
cease to give it. If we look for justice, we will begin to grouse and
to indulge in the discontent of self-pity - Why should I be treated
like this? If we are devoted to Jesus Christ we have nothing to do
with what we meet, whether it is just or unjust. Jesus says - Go
steadily on with what I have told you to do and I will guard your
life. If you try to guard it yourself, you remove yourself from My
deliverance. The most devout among us become atheistic in this
connection; we do not believe God, we enthrone common sense and tack
the name of God on to it. We do lean to our own understanding,
instead of trusting God with all our hearts.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Words to Comfort 5

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Words to Comfort 5
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love. Ephesians 6:24 NIV

I believe Paul is helping to separate the haves from the have nots. Do you love Him, or do you not?

Theological debate has always been among some of my fellow Christians. The issue is over salvation. What is required? There is no debate that salvation is by belief alone. Ephesians 2:8-9 makes this clear, as does John 3:16, Acts 16:31 and Romans 10:9. We arent saved by what we do, we are saved by believing in the One, namely Jesus Christ, who has paid it all! Period. Jesus answered the question of what do I do by saying: Believe in the One He has sent!

The question is what does this belief look like. If someone says I believe, but never evidences that belief with a life of love and honor to Christ, did they really obey what the Bible tells us to do? Did they really believe? I can say I believe in the tooth ferry, but do I believe in her enough to put a tooth un der my pillow?

Just to let you know where I am at, it is my opinion that when a person genuinely believes that Jesus is who He claims to be, the One true Son of God who lived a perfect life, died on a Cross, and rose again, I think a change occurs in that person. I dont think that person will ever be the same again. I think that person will have an inner desire to please God. I think, when that person comes near the end of their life, he still believe. He will still, hopefully even more, love the Lord who saved him! Thats what I believe the Bible calls belief.

Do you have that kind of undying love for Jesus? Have you believed in Him in that way? Dear friend, make sure today, but if that's your story; rest easy in the salvation that has saved you and don't fear again your secure place in Heaven!

DIFFERENCES

Galatians 2:11-21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+2:11-21

Dear Father, peacemaker among brethren,

When good people within your church find themselves differing on
issues, may we take comfort in knowing that even Peter and Paul had
their differences.

Help us, like them, follow a path of integrity, confronting each
other in a spirit of love. Help us, like them, be willing to admit
when we are wrong.

We are human; we need your help, guidance, and grace to overcome
our lack of goodness and good judgment.

Instill within our hearts the truth that through the works of law
no one will be justified, but rather through our faith in Jesus
Christ.

In the name of Christ I pray. Amen.

person causes that child to sin, then it will be very bad for
that person. It would be better for that person to have a
millstone tied around his neck and be drowned in the sea."

-- Mark 9:42 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
So often in our passion to preserve the purity of the faith, we begin
to exclude others. While purity in our faith is important, Jesus
reminds us of the other side of the equation: woe to us if we exclude
someone who Jesus sees as belonging or do anything to cause another to
lose faith. New Christians, weak believers, and children are all
precious to God. He doesn't want a single one to lose faith because of
the hard-headedness, hard-heartedness, or arrogance of another
believer.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
God, please help me be more careful in what I say and how I act. I
don't want to discourage a single believer from following you. Help my
life and my actions be an encouragement rather than a discouragement to
your people. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Matthew 6:27

June 27, 2008

VERSE:
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
-- Matthew 6:27

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Matthew+6:27

THOUGHT:
In our busy world, we often let ourselves get preoccupied with
worrisome and inconsequential things. What does this get us? Far
from making our lives more productive or adding to our longevity,
we know for a fact that worry hastens our demise and robs our days
of joy and grace.

PRAYER:
Father, thank you. Thank you for making the earth hold its orbit
and my heart have its beat. Thank you for giving me a future beyond
the boundary markers of my mortality. Thank you for pouring your
grace and numerous blessings into my life. Forgive me, Lord, when I
do not count these blessings enough and begin to worry how I might
acquire more or fear losing those things that I have. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.
