Today's Verse : Hebrews 12:25

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 25, 2008

VERSE:
See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not
escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much
less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?
-- Hebrews 12:25
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Hebrews+12:25

THOUGHT:
With the gift of Jesus comes an awesome responsibility: we must
listen, follow, and honor him! If God demanded that his people obey
his lesser messengers who were prophets or kings, what do you think
the responsibility is for us to listen when he has emptied heaven
of his Son's glory so that it might shine on us?

PRAYER:
Thank you, dear Father, for sending your Son and my Savior,
Jesus. Please, dear LORD, I do not want to ever take that gift for
granted. Please empower me and give me wisdom so that I can
faithfully listen and serve Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

It's Almost Time ..., by Tom Norvell

It's Christmas Eve. It's almost time ... The family will soon gather.
Moms and dads, grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts, uncles, cousins
and all the children will be gathering tonight to share the joy of this
special season. Gifts have been purchased with great care, wrapped and
are about to be opened. There is a bit of anxiety in the air because we
want them to like what we're giving. There is peace and joy over being
together. It's Christmas Eve. It's almost time.

It's Christmas Eve. It's almost time ... The children are in bed.
Finally they have gone to sleep. They have given up the battle to stay
awake until Santa comes. They have placed the cookies and milk and
their note to Santa in the designated place. In just a few hours they
will awaken eager to open their gifts. It's Christmas Eve. It's almost
time.

It's Christmas Eve. It's almost time ... Now that the children are
asleep you can go to the attic, the trunk of the car, under your bed,
the storage building in the back yard, and all the other secret hiding
places you have used for those things you've been hiding for months.
You have bikes to assemble, batteries to install, and wrapping to
finish. And, somehow find a power tool that will cut through the hard
plastic packaging that encases almost everything you buy without
getting so agitated that you disturb the neighbors. The hour is late.
You're really tired, but the thrill of seeing their faces when they
come down the stairs keeps you going for as long as it takes. It's
Christmas Eve. It's almost time.

It's Christmas Eve. It's almost time ... we are anxious and excited and
hopeful and ready and nervous and scared and all those other emotions
we feel when we anticipate something big is about to happen. Unlike the
children, we know what is about to happen. We know the thrill of seeing
our children receive the longings of their heart. We know it's
Christmas Eve. We know it's almost time.

He knew the right gift.

Do you suppose that God, on the eve before He sent His one and only Son
into the world, experienced some of the same emotions or had any of the
same thoughts that we have on Christmas Eve. He knew what was about to
happen. Will they love my Son? Will they realize how much thought has
gone into this? Will they appreciate the sacrifice I am making? Will
they have any idea of the value of this gift? What will they do with
what I am giving them? Was He experiencing any of these thoughts during
those centuries of silence?

Whether God felt those things or not, I do not know, and I do not
presume to make Him like me. What I do know is that He knew the right
gift. He knew what we needed. He knew that some would accept the Son
and love Him, and He knew that some would despise and reject Him. He
knew what was ahead. He knew it was about time.

Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see
his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will
prosper in his hand. After the suffering of his soul, he will see
the light [of life] and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous
servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.
Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will
divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life
unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore
the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors (Isaiah
53:10-12 NIV).

It's Christmas Eve. It's almost time. Enjoy the gift.

Morning & Evening -- 2 Corinthians 8:9 and Isaiah 40:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

MORNING:

"For your sakes he became poor."
-- 2 Corinthians 8:9

The Lord Jesus Christ was eternally rich, glorious, and exalted; but
"though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor." As the rich
saint cannot be true in his communion with his poor brethren unless of
his substance he ministers to their necessities, so (the same rule
holding with the head as between the members), it is impossible that
our Divine Lord could have had fellowship with us unless he had
imparted to us of his own abounding wealth, and had become poor to make
us rich. Had he remained upon his throne of glory, and had we continued
in the ruins of the fall without receiving his salvation, communion
would have been impossible on both sides. Our position by the fall,
apart from the covenant of grace, made it as impossible for fallen man
to communicate with God as it is for Belial to be in concord with
Christ. In order, therefore, that communion might be compassed, it was
necessary that the rich kinsman should bestow his estate upon his poor
relatives, that the righteous Saviour should give to his sinning
brethren of his own perfection, and that we, the poor and guilty,
should receive of his fulness grace for grace; that thus in giving and
receiving, the One might descend from the heights, and the other ascend
from the depths, and so be able to embrace each other in true and
hearty fellowship. Poverty must be enriched by him in whom are infinite
treasures before it can venture to commune; and guilt must lose itself
in imputed and imparted righteousness ere the soul can walk in
fellowship with purity. Jesus must clothe his people in his own
garments, or he cannot admit them into his palace of glory; and he must
wash them in his own blood, or else they will be too defiled for the
embrace of his fellowship.

O believer, herein is love! For your sake the Lord Jesus "became poor"
that he might lift you up into communion with himself.

EVENING:

"The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall
see it together."
-- Isaiah 40:5

We anticipate the happy day when the whole world shall be converted to
Christ; when the gods of the heathen shall be cast to the moles and the
bats; when Romanism shall be exploded, and the crescent of Mohammed
shall wane, never again to cast its baleful rays upon the nations; when
kings shall bow down before the Prince of Peace, and all nations shall
call their Redeemer blessed. Some despair of this. They look upon the
world as a vessel breaking up and going to pieces, never to float
again. We know that the world and all that is therein is one day to be
burnt up, and afterwards we look for new heavens and for a new earth;
but we cannot read our Bibles without the conviction that-

"Jesus shall reign where'er the sun
Does his successive journeys run."

We are not discouraged by the length of his delays; we are not
disheartened by the long period which he allots to the church in which
to struggle with little success and much defeat. We believe that God
will never suffer this world, which has once seen Christ's blood shed
upon it, to be always the devil's stronghold. Christ came hither to
deliver this world from the detested sway of the powers of darkness.
What a shout shall that be when men and angels shall unite to cry
"Hallelujah, hallelujah, for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth!" What a
satisfaction will it be in that day to have had a share in the fight,
to have helped to break the arrows of the bow, and to have aided in
winning the victory for our Lord! Happy are they who trust themselves
with this conquering Lord, and who fight side by side with him, doing
their little in his name and by his strength! How unhappy are those on
the side of evil! It is a losing side, and it is a matter wherein to
lose is to lose and to be lost for ever. On whose side are you?

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Hidden Life"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 24, 2008

THE HIDDEN LIFE

Your life is hid with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:3
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=col+3:3&sr=1

The Spirit of God witnesses to the simple almighty security of the
life hid with Christ in God and this is continually brought out in
the Epistles. We talk as if it were the most precarious thing to live
the sanctified life; it is the most secure thing, because it has
Almighty God in and behind it. The most precarious thing is to try
and live without God. If we are born again it is the easiest thing to
live in right relationship to God and the most difficult thing to go
wrong, if only we will heed God's warnings and keep in the light.

When we think of being delivered from sin, of being filled with the
Spirit, and of walking in the light, we picture the peak of a great
mountain, very high and wonderful, and we say - "Oh, but I could
never live up there!" But when we do get there by God's grace, we
find it is not a mountain peak, but a plateau where there is ample
room to live and to grow. "Thou hast enlarged my steps under me."

When you really see Jesus, I defy you to doubt Him. When He says -
"Let not your heart be troubled," if you see Him I defy you to
trouble your mind, it is a moral impossibility to doubt when He is
there. Every time you get into personal contact with Jesus, His words
are real. "My peace I give unto you," it is a peace all over from the
crown of the head to the sole of the feet, an irrepressible
confidence. "Your life is hid with Christ in God," and the
imperturbable peace of Jesus Christ is imparted to you.

IN THE NAME OF JESUS

Colossians 3:15-17
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+3:15-17

Dear Father,

Let Christ's peace rule in our hearts. Let us be at peace in his
one body. Fill our hearts and mouths with overflowing thanksgiving.

Let Christ's word dwell in us richly. Let us teach and admonish
each other in all wisdom.

Let us impart grace through the songs flowing from thankful
hearts.

May we do everything, whatever it is, in the name of our Lord
Jesus.

We give thanks to you, our God and Father, through his name. Amen.

WJD! -- Gloom or Anticipation? -- Mark 16:2

Gloom or Anticipation?

Very early on that day, the first day of the week, the women
were going to the tomb. It was very early after sunrise.

-- Mark 16:2 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
This verse is filled with anticipation for those of us who live on this
side of Jesus' resurrection. However, try to imagine what it was like
for those women who had supported Jesus with their funds, had honored
him with their discipleship, and were broken-hearted because of his
death! Their walk to the tomb was an act of love and faithfulness. In
the slowly gathering light of the early morning, their walk would have
been a walk of agony and deep grief. Despite the danger of being
identified with Jesus, despite the heaviness of their hearts, and
despite the early hour of their walk to the tomb, these women still
came to honor Christ. What excuse do you and I have for not coming to
honor him? Let's approach our times together with Christians who
assemble to honor Jesus with anticipation, not gloom. "The Lord's Day"
is not only the day these women met the resurrected Jesus; it is also
our day of assembling to remember Jesus and his death, burial, and
resurrection. Let's approach this day with anticipation and joy in our
hearts!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, make my heart glad to be with your people and meet the
resurrected Jesus when we assemble in his name. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
