=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

No Honor Among Friends...., by Skye Noe

I love first impressions. It's the only chance you get to show off the
person you wish you really were. For that one moment in time you can be
any type of person you wish. If you want to be a generous person,
you've got one chance to prove it. If you want to be intelligent,
you've got one chance to show it. Once the first impression has passed,
people will begin to form a perspective of you based on what they see
of your life. They will factor in every little piece of information
that they learn. So while the first impression may imply one thing,
your life may imply something entirely different.

The problem with a first impression is that it's hard to erase. This is
not a problem if you are lucky enough to have a good first impression.
What about when it doesn't go like you want? Or, what happens when the
person you were when you made your first impression is no longer who
you are today?

As I have grown, I have made many changes in my life. The greatest of
which was the decision to become a Christian. I made the decision that
every Christian must make; I chose to live my life for God and to turn
away from my old lifestyle.

The challenge with changing your life is that too many people already
know you as part of your old life. The first impressions of Skye the
non-Christian were firmly grounded in the minds of everyone I knew.
Even though my actions and words suggested I was a different person, my
first impression was too strong to erase.

You never get a second chance at a first impression ...

Jesus faced a similar struggle when he attempted to teach and heal the
sick in his hometown. Many of the people in his hometown had already
made their first impression of Jesus. They knew him as the "carpenter's
son" and the "son of Mary." They knew his wisdom from the time he was a
child, but now Jesus had revealed himself as the Son of God. Because
they could not understand his new lifestyle, they were confused and
took offense at him. Jesus himself said to his disciples:

"Only in his home town, among his relatives and in his own house is
a prophet without honor."
Mark 6:4

Jesus understands what it feels like when people will not accept the
reality of a changed life. Everyday that we choose to live for God the
world will struggle to understand our personal change, but we must make
new first impressions and try to change the old ones. If you would like
to share your story of change or listen to the story of others who have
changed their lives, please visit www.hopeforlife.org or contact me at
skye@hopeforlife.org.

Morning & Evening -- John 18:8 and Mark 8:38

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

MORNING:

"Jesus said unto them, If ye seek me, let these go their way."
-- John 18:8

Mark, my soul, the care which Jesus manifested even in his hour of
trial, towards the sheep of his hand! The ruling passion is strong in
death. He resigns himself to the enemy, but he interposes a word of
power to set his disciples free. As to himself, like a sheep before her
shearers he is dumb and opened not his mouth, but for his disciples'
sake he speaks with almighty energy. Herein is love, constant,
self-forgetting, faithful love. But is there not far more here than is
to be found upon the surface? Have we not the very soul and spirit of
the atonement in these words? The Good Shepherd lays down his life for
the sheep, and pleads that they must therefore go free. The Surety is
bound, and justice demands that those for whom he stands a substitute
should go their way. In the midst of Egypt's bondage, that voice rings
as a word of power, "Let these go their way." Out of slavery of sin and
Satan the redeemed must come. In every cell of the dungeons of Despair,
the sound is echoed, "Let these go their way," and forth come
Despondency and Much-afraid. Satan hears the well-known voice, and
lifts his foot from the neck of the fallen; and Death hears it, and the
grave opens her gates to let the dead arise. Their way is one of
progress, holiness, triumph, glory, and none shall dare to stay them in
it. No lion shall be on their way, neither shall any ravenous beast go
up thereon. "The hind of the morning" has drawn the cruel hunters upon
himself, and now the most timid roes and hinds of the field may graze
at perfect peace among the lilies of his loves. The thunder-cloud has
burst over the Cross of Calvary, and the pilgrims of Zion shall never
be smitten by the bolts of vengeance. Come, my heart, rejoice in the
immunity which thy Redeemer has secured thee, and bless his name all
the day, and every day.

EVENING:

"When he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy
angels."
-- Mark 8:38

If we have been partakers with Jesus in his shame, we shall be sharers
with him in the lustre which shall surround him when he appears again
in glory. Art thou, beloved one, with Christ Jesus? Does a vital union
knit thee to him? Then thou art to-day with him in his shame; thou hast
taken up his cross, and gone with him without the camp bearing his
reproach; thou shalt doubtless be with him when the cross is exchanged
for the crown. But judge thyself this evening; for if thou art not with
him in the regeneration, neither shalt thou be with him when he shall
come in his glory. If thou start back from the black side of communion,
thou shalt not understand its bright, its happy period, when the King
shall come, and all his holy angels with him. What! are angels with
him? And yet he took not up angels-he took up the seed of Abraham. Are
the holy angels with him? Come, my soul, if thou art indeed his own
beloved, thou canst not be far from him. If his friends and his
neighbours are called together to see his glory, what thinkest thou if
thou art married to him? Shalt thou be distant? Though it be a day of
judgment, yet thou canst not be far from that heart which, having
admitted angels into intimacy, has admitted thee into union. Has he not
said to thee, O my soul, "I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness,
and in judgment, and in lovingkindness?" Have not his own lips said it,
"I am married unto thee, and my delight is in thee?" If the angels, who
are but friends and neighbours, shall be with him, it is abundantly
certain that his own beloved Hephzibah, in whom is all his delight,
shall be near to him, and sit at his right hand. Here is a morning star
of hope for thee, of such exceeding brilliance, that it may well light
up the darkest and most desolate experience.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Vision By Personal Purity"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 26, 2008

VISION BY PERSONAL PURITY

Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.

Matthew 5:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+5:8&sr=1

Purity is not innocence, it is much more. Purity is the outcome of
sustained spiritual sympathy with God. We have to grow in purity. The
life with God may be right and the inner purity remain unsullied, and
yet every now and again the bloom on the outside may be sullied. God
does not shield us from this possibility, because in this way we
realize the necessity of maintaining the vision by personal purity.
If the spiritual bloom of our life with God is getting impaired in
the tiniest degree, we must leave off everything and get it put
right. Remember that vision depends on character - the pure in heart
see God.

God makes us pure by His sovereign grace, but we have something to
look after, this bodily life by which we come in contact with other
people and with other points of view, it is these that are apt to
sully. Not only must the inner sanctuary be kept right with God, but
the outer courts as well are to be brought into perfect accord with
the purity God gives us by His grace. The spiritual understanding is
blurred immediately the outer court is sullied. If we are going to
retain personal contact with the Lord Jesus Christ, it will mean
there are some things we must scorn to do or to think, some
legitimate things we must scorn to touch.

A practical way of keeping personal purity unsullied in relation to
other people is to say to yourself - That man, that woman, perfect in
Christ Jesus! That friend, that relative, perfect in Christ Jesus!

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Haggai Three

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Haggai Three
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Then Haggai, the Lord's messenger, gave this message of the Lord to the people: "I am with you," declares the Lord. So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty their God. Haggai 1:13-14 NIV

As we have discovered the last couple of days, the people of God had neglected God's temple while they built their own fortunes. Since Solomon's temple had been destroyed, the people had given up on building the kingdom of God and instead, selfishly focussed on their own interests. God was not happy.

God called the people back to know His will; that all mankind should call upon the name of the Lord and give Him the glory due His name. As we see today, God literally "stirred" the hearts of His people. The remanant among the Israelites, those whose hearts were fully devoted to God, renewed their commitment, and once again began to work on the temple of the Lord.

Is God stirring your heart today? Not with this devotional, but with the things that are happening in your life right now. You see, I really believe God is calling a remnant of His people to renew their relationship to Him. I believe, especially in these days, that God is preparing His people for Christ's return. I am convinced that God will settle for no less than hearts who are "sold out" to Him; not conformed to the image of this world, but transformed into new creations; ones whose lives are fully set on knowing Jesus as Lord.

Just as in the days of the great prophet Haggai, God still wants to rebuild His temple. Only today, His temple is within the hearts of His children.

He builds our "temple" one stone at a time. God slowly and sometimes painfully constructs a masterpiece with our life. Is it your desire to be among the "remnant of God's peopl e"? As He stirs your heart, place your thoughts securely and completely upon Him, and watch as He molds His temple into the vessel He wants you to be.

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

STEWARDSHIP

1 Corinthians 4:1-4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+4:1-4

Dear Father, judge of all mankind,

Help me be a profitable slave to you and good steward of your
mysteries. As a steward may I be found trustworthy.

May I not be concerned about being judged by human beings or by
any human court. May I not even set in judgment on myself. Only you
do that. I am not aware of anything against myself, but that, I
understand, in and of itself, does not acquit me before you. You
are my judge. You can condemn. And you can and will make me stand.

It is by Jesus' authority and in his name that I offer up this
prayer. Amen.

Go Tell Them Something Great

Jesus was preparing to leave in the boat. The man that was
freed from the demons begged to go with Jesus. But Jesus did
not allow the man to go. Jesus said, "Go home to your family
and friends. Tell them about all the things the Lord did for
you. Tell them that the Lord was good to you."

-- Mark 5:18-19 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Go tell the wonderful things God has done for you! This is not a
command just to legion, but also a command to us! God is merciful! God
has saved us! How can we not share this powerful message with others?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O God, give my mouth the words to say and a heart full of joy so that I
can be effective in telling others what Jesus has done for me! In
Jesus' name I ask for this grace. Amen.

Today's Verse : Galatians 3:26-27

\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 26, 2008

VERSE:
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all
of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with
Christ.
-- Galatians 3:26-27

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+3:26-27

THOUGHT:
What are you wearing today? I hope you are clothed with Christ.
Anything else is simply out of style by heaven's standards, no
matter what designer fashions you may be wearing. You can be
clothed with Christ by surrendering your life to Jesus as your
Savior through faith; believe that he is God's Son who died for
you, trust that he rose from the dead to give you life, confess
Christ as your Lord and Savior trusting him for your salvation, and
share with him in his death, burial, and resurrection through
baptism. He promises to send his Spirit to live inside you and to
forgive you all of your sins. You will be God's child and have a
home waiting for you in heaven. For those of us who are Christians,
these thoughts are a reminder of what God has done for us and what
he expects of us. If you are not a Christian, the world doesn't
have to be a cold and lonely place; the Lord Jesus can be with you
everywhere you go if you will respond to him.

PRAYER:
Father, thank you that you provided a way for making me your
child and for clothing me in your righteousness. Thank you for
making it possible for me to call you Father and to have Jesus as
my older brother. Thank you, dear Father, for Jesus, in whose name
I pray. Amen.
