Today's Verse : Galatians 4:4-5

VERSE:
God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem
those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
-- Galatians 4:4-5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+4:4-5

THOUGHT:
God sent his Son. No one else would do. He had sent prophets,
priests, and preachers. Religion remained earthbound, legalistic,
and doomed. So God sent what is most precious to him, his Son. Why?
So measly human beings such as you and I could be adopted into his
family and have the same rights as the Savior, God's Son and our
brother in the faith!

PRAYER:
Thank you, Holy God, for bringing me back into your family
through your Son. Thank you for not treating me as my sins deserve.
Thank you for not leaving me under Law, but redeeming me through
your grace into a dynamic love relationship as your child. Thank
you for your plan of redemption that wound its way through Old
Testament history until the time came to fulfill all your promises.
Thank you for sending your Son. In the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ I thank you. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Nativity 2

"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." Micah 5:2 NIV

The birth of Jesus had been foretold. If you were any kind of religious scholar you could have predicted His coming. In fact, according to the prophecy of Daniel, most of Israel's religious scholars would have even been able to predict the year of Christ's birth!

In spite of all the warning, the religious leaders at the time of Jesus' birth missed Christmas. The very ones who should have been promoting the arrival of a Saviour are no where to be found in the nativity scenes of today. The so-called "godly" of the day, were absent when God entered the world as a man.

Dear Christian friend, would the world that knows you consider you among the "religious" of the day? Are you one they would call "godly"? Then, by all means, don't miss Christmas, or better said, don't miss Christ this year! Don't be one of those who allows Christ to be abesent from their celebrations.

Be a part of the nativity scene this year! Make Christmas a time to get as close to the Christ as you possibly can!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

I Did It for You!, by Rubel Shelly

James and Kati Kim left San Francisco to travel to Seattle for
Thanksgiving last year. With the holiday over, they started home. There
was to be a night at an expensive lodge on November 25. But, they
missed their turnoff from Interstate 5, and after checking a roadmap,
they decided to get off and travel a secondary road to their
destination at Gold Beach, Oregon.

With their daughters, four-year-old Penelope and seven-month-old
Sabine, they drove for about a dozen miles. Then, in what would prove
to be a terrible mistake, they took a fork to the right and started
down the road where they would soon be stranded. Because of the danger
of that route during winter, there is a locked metal gate to keep
people from going that way. It was secured against traffic November 1,
but a vandal had cut the lock and done away with the barrier!

This is how this precious family of four came to be stranded in rugged
territory. They couldn't get a cell phone signal. All they could do was
try to survive until either they could figure a way out of the remote
area or search teams could find them.

Dwindling gasoline meant they could warm their car only occasionally.
They found some wood to burn and then burned their car tires. When they
exhausted their baby food and bottled water, they melted snow. Kati
nursed the two girls. Stranded for more than a week now, James knew he
had to do something. On Saturday, December 2, 2006, he started out on
foot in the direction he and Kati believed the nearest help could be
found. He walked for more than ten miles in the snow before dying of
exposure and hypothermia.

It was so perilous a mission that it cost him his life.

Searchers found and saved James' wife and daughters on Monday, December
4. His body was found two days later. There would be no fairy-tale
ending to the story. People around the world have grieved with the
35-year-old man's family. Our hearts go out to Kati, Penelope, and
Sabine.

This story is a moving testimony to one man's love for his family. For
many Christians, it is yet another metaphor for the mission of the one
whose birth we celebrate in the Christmas season. In a world that
headlines crime and abuse, terrorism and violence, indifference and
turning away, James' actions show us that real love still exists. Great
sacrifices are still made. Humans created in God's very image are
capable of imitating his own self-giving love.

James Kim's desperate attempt to save those precious to him is a
testimony to one man's love for his family. As one person put it, he
leaves them this legacy: "I did it for you!"

If you're struggling to find your way, Jesus has been trying to get
through to you since Bethlehem. It was so perilous a mission that it
cost him his life. Yet the gospel message, from the manger to the
cross, is God's way of saying, "I did it for you!"

Morning & Evening -- Joel 2:13 and Proverbs 27:23

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 18, 2007

MORNING:

"Rend your heart, and not your garments."
-- Joel 2:13

GARMENT-RENDING and other outward signs of religious emotion, are
easily manifested and are frequently hypocritical; but to feel true
repentance is far more difficult, and consequently far less common. Men
will attend to the most multiplied and minute ceremonial
regulations-for such things are pleasing to the flesh-but true religion
is too humbling, too heart-searching, too thorough for the tastes of
the carnal men; they prefer something more ostentatious, flimsy, and
worldly. Outward observances are temporarily comfortable; eye and ear
are pleased; self-conceit is fed, and self-righteousness is puffed up:
but they are ultimately delusive, for in the article of death, and at
the day of judgment, the soul needs something more substantial than
ceremonies and rituals to lean upon. Apart from vital godliness all
religion is utterly vain; offered without a sincere heart, every form
of worship is a solemn sham and an impudent mockery of the majesty of
heaven.

HEART-RENDING is divinely wrought and solemnly felt. It is a secret
grief which is personally experienced, not in mere form, but as a deep,
soul-moving work of the Holy Spirit upon the inmost heart of each
believer. It is not a matter to be merely talked of and believed in,
but keenly and sensitively felt in every living child of the living
God. It is powerfully humiliating, and completely sin-purging; but then
it is sweetly preparative for those gracious consolations which proud
unhumbled spirits are unable to receive; and it is distinctly
discriminating, for it belongs to the elect of God, and to them alone.

The text commands us to rend our hearts, but they are naturally hard as
marble: how, then, can this be done? We must take them to Calvary: a
dying Saviour's voice rent the rocks once, and it is as powerful now. O
blessed Spirit, let us hear the death-cries of Jesus, and our hearts
shall be rent even as men rend their vestures in the day of
lamentation.

EVENING:

"Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look
well to thy herds."
-- Proverbs 27:23

Every wise merchant will occasionally hold a stock-taking, when he will
cast up his accounts, examine what he has on hand, and ascertain
decisively whether his trade is prosperous or declining. Every man who
is wise in the kingdom of heaven, will cry, "Search me, O God, and try
me"; and he will frequently set apart special seasons for
self-examination, to discover whether things are right between God and
his soul. The God whom we worship is a great heart-searcher; and of old
his servants knew him as "the Lord which searcheth the heart and trieth
the reins of the children of men." Let me stir you up in his name to
make diligent search and solemn trial of your state, lest you come
short of the promised rest. That which every wise man does, that which
God himself does with us all, I exhort you to do with yourself this
evening. Let the oldest saint look well to the fundamentals of his
piety, for grey heads may cover black hearts: and let not the young
professor despise the word of warning, for the greenness of youth may
be joined to the rottenness of hypocrisy. Every now and then a cedar
falls into our midst. The enemy still continues to sow tares among the
wheat. It is not my aim to introduce doubts and fears into your mind;
nay, verily, but I shall hope the rather that the rough wind of
self-examination may help to drive them away. It is not security, but
carnal security, which we would kill; not confidence, but fleshly
confidence, which we would overthrow; not peace, but false peace, which
we would destroy. By the precious blood of Christ, which was not shed
to make you a hypocrite, but that sincere souls might show forth his
praise, I beseech you, search and look, lest at the last it be said of
you, "Mene, Mene, Tekel: thou art weighed in the balances, and art
found wanting."

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Test Of Loyalty"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 18, 2007

THE TEST OF LOYALTY

And we know that all things work together for good to
them that love God.

Romans 8:28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ro+8:28&sr=1

It is only the loyal soul who believes that God engineers
circumstances. We take such liberty with our circumstances, we do not
believe God engineers them, although we say we do; we treat the
things that happen as if they were engineered by men. To be faithful
in every circumstance means that we have only one loyalty, and that
is to our Lord. Suddenly God breaks up a particular set of
circumstances, and the realization comes that we have been disloyal
to Him by not recognizing that He had ordered them; we never saw what
He was after, and that particular thing will never be repeated all
the days of our life. The test of loyalty always comes just there. If
we learn to worship God in the trying circumstances, He will alter
them in two seconds when He chooses.

Loyalty to Jesus Christ is the thing that we "stick at" to-day. We
will be loyal to work, to service, to anything, but do not ask us to
be loyal to Jesus Christ. Many Christians are intensely impatient of
talking about loyalty to Jesus. Our Lord is dethroned more
emphatically by Christian workers than by the world. God is made a
machine for blessing men, and Jesus Christ is made a Worker among
workers.

The idea is not that we do work for God, but that we are so loyal to
Him that He can do His work through us - "I reckon on you for extreme
service, with no complaining on your part and no explanation on
Mine." God wants to use us as He used His own Son.

JOINED WITH CHRIST

Colossians 2:10-12

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+2:10-12

Dear Father,

Thank you, Father, that we have been joined with Christ in his
life, death, and resurrection.

Make us realize that we put off the body of flesh in his
circumcision, were buried with him in his baptism, and were raised
with him in his resurrection.

Give us the faith to see your hand at work in all this and to see
ourselves in what happened to him.

Help us to hold fast to Christ, who is our head, in whose name I
pray. Amen.

Their Voices Prevailed

But all the people shouted, "Kill him! Let Barabbas go free!"
(Barabbas was a man that was in jail because he started a
riot in the city. He had also killed some people.) Pilate
wanted to let Jesus go free. So again Pilate told them that
he would let Jesus go. But they shouted again, "Kill him!
Kill him on a cross!" A third time Pilate said to the people,
"Why? What wrong has he done? He is not guilty. I can find no
reason to kill him. So I will let him go free after I punish
him a little." But the people continued to shout. They
demanded that Jesus be killed on the cross. Their shouting
became so loud that Pilate decided to give them what they
wanted. The people wanted Barabbas to go free. Barabbas was
in jail for starting a riot and for killing people. Pilate
let Barabbas go free. And Pilate gave Jesus to the people to
be killed. This is what the people wanted.

-- Luke 23:17-25 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Pilate didn't have the will to buck the crowd's will. Instead, he read
the poll numbers and followed the will of the crowd rather than doing
the right thing. So Pilate "delivered Jesus over to them to do as they
wished." They had requested that a murderer be released and Jesus be
crucified. As insane as this seems, this is what often happens when the
crowd determines the agenda. All throughout Jesus' ministry, the crowd
has sought to possess him and make him into what they wanted him to be.
Jesus wouldn't let them. Now the crowd will call for his death because
they couldn't make Jesus do their bidding. The crowd gets its wish with
Pilate. Will the crowd get its wish with us and with our lives? Or will
we choose Jesus and the way of the Lord? Let's remember that the way of
Christ is quite often unacceptable to the crowd. If we ever doubt this
truth, all we have to do is to be reminded of the Cross and the Savior.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father in heaven, help me never base my life on the will of the crowd,
but to have the courage to live the way of the Lord. In Jesus' name.
Amen.
