Pink Slip, by Teresa Bell Kindred

Check out our new women's blog, featuring Teresa Bell Kindred. You can
find it online here: http://akindredheart.com

"Hey Mom," my daughter said when I answered the phone, "I've got some
big news. I didn't get a pink slip!"

My daughter is a first year teacher and many of her friends and
co-workers did get the dreaded pink slip. Some of them will be rehired
before school starts back in the fall, but Kentucky's education budget
is tighter than ever; and, as a former school board member, I am well
aware that dollars only stretch so far.

He never gives pink slips!

I think my daughter was destined to be a teacher from the time she was
just a little girl. While her friends were asking for baby dolls for
Christmas she wanted marker boards to play "teacher." Maybe she was
genetically programmed to teach. Her grandmother was a teacher and so
am I, as well as many of her aunts and cousins.

Some people are born knowing what they want to do with their lives,
while others have to search in order to find their calling. Some folks
are born into Christian families and accept Christ easily. Others know
that they need something to cling to, but they aren't sure where to
look. Still others turn down roads that lead them to heartache and
destruction.

No matter how we get to Christ, once we are there, we are all treated
the same. Christ is an "equal opportunity employer: and He never gives
pink slips (Hebrews 13:5-8; Romans 8:32-39). He wants all His children
with Him forever.

Follow God's example in everything you do, because you are his dear
children (Ephesians 5:1).

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 17:7 and Hosea 11:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

MORNING:

"Marvellous lovingkindness."
-- Psalms 17:7

When we give our hearts with our alms, we give well, but we must often
plead to a failure in this respect. Not so our Master and our Lord. His
favours are always performed with the love of his heart. He does not
send to us the cold meat and the broken pieces from the table of his
luxury, but he dips our morsel in his own dish, and seasons our
provisions with the spices of his fragrant affections. When he puts the
golden tokens of his grace into our palms, he accompanies the gift with
such a warm pressure of our hand, that the manner of his giving is as
precious as the boon itself. He will come into our houses upon his
errands of kindness, and he will not act as some austere visitors do in
the poor man's cottage, but he sits by our side, not despising our
poverty, nor blaming our weakness. Beloved, with what smiles does he
speak! What golden sentences drop from his gracious lips! What embraces
of affection does he bestow upon us! If he had but given us farthings,
the way of his giving would have gilded them; but as it is, the costly
alms are set in a golden basket by his pleasant carriage. It is
impossible to doubt the sincerity of his charity, for there is a
bleeding heart stamped upon the face of all his benefactions. He giveth
liberally and upbraideth not. Not one hint that we are burdensome to
him; not one cold look for his poor pensioners; but he rejoices in his
mercy, and presses us to his bosom while he is pouring out his life for
us. There is a fragrance in his spikenard which nothing but his heart
could produce; there is a sweetness in his honey-comb which could not
be in it unless the very essence of his soul's affection had been
mingled with it. Oh! the rare communion which such singular heartiness
effecteth! May we continually taste and know the blessedness of it!

EVENING:

"I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love."
-- Hosea 11:4

Our heavenly Father often draws us with the cords of love; but ah! how
backward we are to run towards him! How slowly do we respond to his
gentle impulses! He draws us to exercise a more simple faith in him;
but we have not yet attained to Abraham's confidence; we do not leave
our worldly cares with God, but, like Martha, we cumber ourselves with
much serving. Our meagre faith brings leanness into our souls; we do
not open our mouths wide, though God has promised to fill them. Does he
not this evening draw us to trust him? Can we not hear him say, "Come,
my child, and trust me. The veil is rent; enter into my presence, and
approach boldly to the throne of my grace. I am worthy of thy fullest
confidence, cast thy cares on me. Shake thyself from the dust of thy
cares, and put on thy beautiful garments of joy." But, alas! though
called with tones of love to the blessed exercise of this comforting
grace, we will not come. At another time he draws us to closer
communion with himself. We have been sitting on the doorstep of God's
house, and he bids us advance into the banqueting hall and sup with
him, but we decline the honour. There are secret rooms not yet opened
to us; Jesus invites us to enter them, but we hold back. Shame on our
cold hearts! We are but poor lovers of our sweet Lord Jesus, not fit to
be his servants, much less to be his brides, and yet he hath exalted us
to be bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh, married to him by a
glorious marriage-covenant. Herein is love! But it is love which takes
no denial. If we obey not the gentle drawings of his love, he will send
affliction to drive us into closer intimacy with himself. Have us
nearer he will. What foolish children we are to refuse those bands of
love, and so bring upon our backs that scourge of small cords, which
Jesus knows how to use!

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Realm Of The Real"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 20, 2008

THE REALM OF THE REAL

In your patience possess ye your souls.

Luke 21:19

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=lu+21:19&sr=1

When a man is born again, there is not the same robustness in his
thinking or reasoning for a time as formerly. We have to make an
expression of the new life, to form the mind of Christ. "Acquire your
soul with patience." Many of us prefer to stay at the threshold of
the Christian life instead of going on to construct a soul in
accordance with the new life God has put within. We fail because we
are ignorant of the way we are made, we put things down to the devil
instead of our own undisciplined natures. Think what we can be when
we are roused!

There are certain things we must not pray about - moods, for
instance. Moods never go by praying, moods go by kicking. A mood
nearly always has its seat in the physical condition, not in the
moral. It is a continual effort not to listen to the moods which
arise from a physical condition, never submit to them for a second.
We have to take ourselves by the scruff of the neck and shake
ourselves, and we will find that we can do what we said we could not.
The curse with most of us is that we won't. The Christian life is one
of incarnate spiritual pluck.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Heaven Two

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Heaven Two
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:1-3 NIV

Jesus promised that: Heaven is a spacious, wonderful place. He promised that He was preparing it. He would personally come for us. He promised that we would be with Him.

It took God six days to prepare the earth...He did a pretty good job didnt He?

Can you take the awe of the Grand Canyon and multiply it by 8,000 years?

Can you take the magnificence of a snow covered mountain, or the white sandy beaches, and multiply it by all the numbers of days since the world was created?

Let me share some interesting Creation facts: (some of these I borrowed from my friend David Atchison with Disciples Call Ministry. )

If you were to take out all the salt out of the ocean, it would cover the entire land mass 150 feet deep in salt. If you put the highest mountain, Mount Everest, in the deepest part of the ocean, you would still have to travel 1 mile below the water to get to the top.

The sun is so large that it could hold 1 million of our earths within it. There are stars in space that could hold 500 million suns the size of ours. The Milky Way, the galaxy we live in, contains 100 Billion stars. There are 100 billion other known galaxies in the universe.

If the thickness of a sheet of paper represented the distance from the earth to the sun (93 million miles), the distance from the earth to the nearest star would be a stack of paper 71 feet high. The distance from one end of the known universe to the other would be a stack of paper 31 million miles high.

Yet, 1 Kings 8:27 says the heavens, even the highest heavens cannot contain thee

God created it all in 6 days. Hes still working on your place in Heaven. Can you imagine how awesome Heaven will be? Scripture tells us that we are almost Home.

It wont be much longer. Even so, come Lord Jesus!

Praying with Paul : "Ready to Forgive"

READY TO FORGIVE

2 Corinthians 1:23-2:11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+1:23-2:11

Dear Father, God of forgiveness,

Father, help me, when someone sins, to encourage him or her to
repent, then to forgive and comfort that person in your love.

Help all Christians to affirm such loving forgiveness and to
comfort each other so that Satan will not gain the advantage over
us, for we are not ignorant that his designs are that we should be
unforgiving.

In the name of Jesus and in full confidence of salvation through
him I ask all these things. Amen.

WJD! -- Can You See? -- Mark 8:23-26

Can You See?

So Jesus held the blind man's hand and led him out of the
village. Then Jesus spit on the man's eyes. Jesus put his
hands on the blind man and asked him, "Can you see now?" The
blind man looked up and said, "Yes, I see people. They look
like trees walking around." Again Jesus put his hands on the
blind man's eyes. Then the man opened his eyes wide. His eyes
were healed, and he was able to see everything clearly. Jesus
told him to go home. Jesus said, "Don't go into the town."

-- Mark 8:23-26 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
For those who are familiar with Jesus' other miracles, this seems
bizarre! When Jesus heals, people are healed immediately and
completely. Not this time! So why not? Jesus is still trying to get his
followers to understand through the eyes of faith. This blind man
becomes the mirror for them to see themselves. While they can see
partially who Jesus is because of their previous involvement with him,
they must come to him and let him fully reveal who he really is. Like
the blind man in the story, they need Jesus to complete his work of
helping them see who he really is! Their confusion should remind us to
keep coming back to the Bible and to keep asking Jesus to make himself
fully known to us.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, I want to truly know your Son, Jesus. I don't want a partial,
lop-sided view of him, but I want to know him fully even as I am fully
known. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May 20, 2008

VERSE:
[R]emember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his
way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
-- James 5:20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=James+5:20

THOUGHT:
When someone wanders from the path of God, let's not take that
rebellion frivolously. God has given us the tremendous blessing of
carrying on the work of our Savior, who came to seek and save the
lost!

PRAYER:
Be with those I love who are in rebellion against you, dear
Father. Use me to be your agent of restoration. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.
