Today's Verse : Mark 1:11

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 11, 2008

VERSE:
And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with
you I am well pleased."
-- Mark 1:11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Mark+1:11

THOUGHT:
Shortly after Jesus' baptism, he went to face Satan in a
grueling 40 days of temptation. Remember what Satan's opening words
were? "If you are the Son of God..." Wasn't it great that God had
already reassured him of his relationship before it was questioned?
What do those you love need to hear from you today? You don't know
when their time of trial will come; you just know it will, so go
ahead and reassure them before it's necessary!

PRAYER:
Almighty and loving Father, please help me to say the right
words of love and affection to those whom I love so that when
temptation comes, or when others try to draw them away from me,
they will not doubt my love for them. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Doubt 4

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Doubt 4
Part 4 of 5 : Peter's Story of Walking on Water By: Ron Edmondson
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10 NIV

I heard from a reader recently. She has been a Christian for a long time, but lately she has been dealing with doubts. She struggles to see Christ for who He is. She believes in Him, but the situations and trials of life has caused a tiny hole in her once solid faith. She is not alone.

Another reader friend of mine watches her daughter suffer from alcoholism. She, herself, is going through tests to see if she has cancer. Although she has great faith, all this has understandably at times caused her to wonder, "where is God?".

These fine Christian ladies will be fine. Their faith will hold true to the end. Satan will not win by causing doubts in their mind. These light and momentary troubles will achieve for them a Heavenly glory, a fresh association with God, as they begin to see how faithful their Creator is!

But what about you? How is your faith these days? Has the world tossed you more than you can handle? Are you wondering where God is in all this rotten stuff the world has to offer?

Folks, make no mistake about it, God is in control! He is on the winning side. In fact, HE IS the winning side. He is the Alpha and Omega, and everything in between. His ways are not our ways, because He is perfect and makes no mistakes. In this fallen world, we will have troubles, but have no fear, He has overcome the world!

Jesus holds the keys to life and death. He is with those who trust in Him. He will see you one day face to face. He will reward you for your faithfulness, and God, Himself, will wipe every tear from your eyes!

Cling to the Hope of Jesus today!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Where to Find Peace?, by Tom Norvell

[Jesus said] "I have told you these things, so that in me you may
have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I
have overcome the world" (John 16:33 NIV).

We know that there is trouble in this world. We see it all around us.
We hear of it all the time. We experience it in our own lives and in
the lives of those we love. There seems to be no place in this world
where we can rest and be safe. Jesus said it, "In this world you will
have trouble."

Schools are filled with students and teachers who are having troubles
with their families, with their jobs, with their schoolwork, and with
each other. Children could once feel safe in school. Now, metal
detectors, security guards, and random searches give the impression of
safety. Remember, Jesus said, "I have overcome the world."

Shopping centers have become places of caution. Ladies guard their
purses. Children are always kept near. We regularly hear of purse-
snatching, car-jacking, armed robberies, and senseless shootings in
places where once we went about our business carefree and without
reservation. Remember, Jesus said, "I have overcome the world."

Homes are troubled places. Husbands are restless and angry. Wives are
discouraged and longing for attention. Husbands are tired and lonely.
Wives have empty hearts and weary spirits. Children are longing for
boundaries and love. Instead of being a safe haven from the world, our
homes are often deadly battlegrounds. Remember, Jesus said, "I have
overcome the world."

But, Jesus said ...

Churches are not immune. Battle lines are being drawn over tradition,
style, technique, and opinion. Instead of places of refuge, churches
are too often places of turmoil and division while the lonely and weary
come seeking peace and go away empty and disappointed. Remember, Jesus
said, "I have overcome the world."

War. Political conflict. Greed. Selfishness. Anger. Hatred. Rage. Lust.
Death. Destruction. Sin. Remember, Jesus said, "I have overcome the
world."

There is trouble in the world. We know that. But, Jesus said, "I have
told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world
you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." This
is the good news of the season. This is good news for all seasons.

Jesus said, "I have overcome the world." Take heart.

Morning & Evening -- 2 Timothy 4:8 and Job 19:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 10, 2008

MORNING:

"There is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."
-- 2 Timothy 4:8

Doubting one! thou hast often said, "I fear I shall never enter
heaven." Fear not! all the people of God shall enter there. I love the
quaint saying of a dying man, who exclaimed, "I have no fear of going
home; I have sent all before me; God's finger is on the latch of my
door, and I am ready for him to enter." "But," said one, "are you not
afraid lest you should miss your inheritance?" "Nay," said he, "nay;
there is one crown in heaven which the angel Gabriel could not wear, it
will fit no head but mine. There is one throne in heaven which Paul the
apostle could not fill; it was made for me, and I shall have it." O
Christian, what a joyous thought! thy portion is secure; "there
remaineth a rest." "But cannot I forfeit it?" No, it is entailed. If I
be a child of God I shall not lose it. It is mine as securely as if I
were there. Come with me, believer, and let us sit upon the top of
Nebo, and view the goodly land, even Canaan. Seest thou that little
river of death glistening in the sunlight, and across it dost thou see
the pinnacles of the eternal city? Dost thou mark the pleasant country,
and all its joyous inhabitants? Know, then, that if thou couldst fly
across thou wouldst see written upon one of its many mansions, "This
remaineth for such a one; preserved for him only. He shall be caught up
to dwell for ever with God." Poor doubting one, see the fair
inheritance; it is thine. If thou believest in the Lord Jesus, if thou
hast repented of sin, if thou hast been renewed in heart, thou art one
of the Lord's people, and there is a place reserved for thee, a crown
laid up for thee, a harp specially provided for thee. No one else shall
have thy portion, it is reserved in heaven for thee, and thou shalt
have it ere long, for there shall be no vacant thrones in glory when
all the chosen are gathered in.

EVENING:

"In my flesh shall I see God."
-- Job 19:26

Mark the subject of Job's devout anticipation "I shall see God." He
does not say, "I shall see the saints"-though doubtless that will be
untold felicity-but, "I shall see God." It is not-"I shall see the
pearly gates, I shall behold the walls of jasper, I shall gaze upon the
crowns of gold," but "I shall see God." This is the sum and substance
of heaven, this is the joyful hope of all believers. It is their
delight to see him now in the ordinances by faith. They love to behold
him in communion and in prayer; but there in heaven they shall have an
open and unclouded vision, and thus seeing "him as he is," shall be
made completely like him. Likeness to God-what can we wish for more?
And a sight of God-what can we desire better? Some read the passage,
"Yet, I shall see God in my flesh," and find here an allusion to
Christ, as the "Word made flesh," and that glorious beholding of him
which shall be the splendour of the latter days. Whether so or not it
is certain that Christ shall be the object of our eternal vision; nor
shall we ever want any joy beyond that of seeing him. Think not that
this will be a narrow sphere for the mind to dwell in. It is but one
source of delight, but that source is infinite. All his attributes
shall be subjects for contemplation, and as he is infinite under each
aspect, there is no fear of exhaustion. His works, his gifts, his love
to us, and his glory in all his purposes, and in all his actions, these
shall make a theme which will be ever new. The patriarch looked forward
to this sight of God as a personal enjoyment. "Whom mine eye shall
behold, and not another." Take realizing views of heaven's bliss; think
what it will be to you. "Thine eyes shall see the King in his beauty."
All earthly brightness fades and darkens as we gaze upon it, but here
is a brightness which can never dim, a glory which can never fade-"I
shall see God."

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Opened Sight"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 10, 2008

THE OPENED SIGHT

To open their eyes ... that they may receive ...

Acts 26:18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ac+26:18&sr=1

This verse is the grandest condensation of the propaganda of a
disciple of Jesus Christ in the whole of the New Testament.

The first sovereign work of grace is summed up in the word - "that
they may receive remission of sins." When a man fails in personal
Christian experience, it is nearly always because he has never
received anything. The only sign that a man is saved is that he has
received something from Jesus Christ. Our part as workers for God is
to open men's eyes that they may turn themselves from darkness to
light; but that is not salvation, that is conversion - the effort of
a roused human being. I do not think it is too sweeping to say that
the majority of nominal Christians are of this order; their eyes are
opened, but they have received nothing. Conversion is not
regeneration. This is one of the neglected factors in our preaching
today. When a man is born again, he knows that it is because he has
received something as a gift from Almighty God and not because of his
own decision. People register their vows, and sign their pledges, and
determine to go through, but none of this is salvation. Salvation
means that we are brought to the place where we are able to receive
something from God on the authority of Jesus Christ, viz., remission
of sins.

Then there follows the second mighty work of grace - "and inheritance
among them which are sanctified." In sanctification the regenerated
soul deliberately gives up his right to himself to Jesus Christ, and
identifies himself entirely with God's interest in other men.

Praying with Paul : "No Partiality"

\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

NO PARTIALITY

Romans 2:8-11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+2:8-11

Dear Father, holy and righteous judge,

I know that you will render to every man according to his works.
To those who are factious and obey wickedness instead of the truth,
there will be wrath and fury.

You have foretold tribulation and distress for every human being
who does evil, to the Jew first and also the non-Jew, but glory and
honor and peace for every one who does good, to the Jew first and
also to the non-Jew. For you show no partiality.

Help me do what is good, but not out of my own resources, for my
goodness is unacceptable to you. Help me do what is good by living
in and for Christ, whose goodness you will accept.

By your grace alone am I saved, as I entrust my soul to you. Thank
you that you will impute Christ's righteousness to me on this
basis.

In the name of Jesus I ask for your acceptance through my faith.
Amen.

WJD! -- Led by the Spirit -- Mark 1:12

Led by the Spirit

Then the Spirit sent Jesus into the desert alone.

-- Mark 1:12 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is led and guided by the Holy Spirit -- in both good times and
bad times. Just as Jesus goes to face temptation in the wilderness
immediately after his baptism, we too find ourselves in powerful
temptation struggles after a major spiritual experience, a deepened
spiritual commitment, or a special time of devotion. This does not mean
the Holy Spirit has abandoned us. Instead, it means that the Spirit
goes with us to lead us through this time of trial, testing, and
temptation. The Spirit takes what Satan intended for our harm and turns
it into something that can strengthen our faith and mature us in our
discipleship.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, give me the courage to believe that your Holy Spirit leads and
guides me. Help me believe that I am not alone -- not in the good times
or in the tough times when I feel abandoned. Use all the events in my
life to mature me ever more into the character, compassion, and
commitment of Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
