Today's Verse : Hebrews 1:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 3, 2008

VERSE:
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact
representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful
word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at
the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
-- Hebrews 1:3

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Hebrews+1:3

THOUGHT:
We talk about Mother Nature, but did you know that Scripture
identifies Jesus as the power behind the order of our universe? He
sustains our world by his powerful word. Not only did he save us by
the sacrifice of his life, but he also sustains us by his word. He
sustains us spiritually by his word of teaching and sustains our
world by his word of power and grace.

PRAYER:
Please be with me, Almighty God, as I commit to live for you
based on Jesus' word. Help me as I seek to understand it and apply
it. More than that, dear Father, please help me to come to know you
through his words. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Come As You Are, by Skye Noe

I am a problem solver. I enjoy the challenge involved with identifying
a problem and then creating a solution. The process of problem solving
is not easy. The most difficult part of solving a problem is creating a
solution using only your available resources. If anything were
possible, money were no object and everyone one agreed with me, then
most problems would be pretty easy to solve. Unfortunately, money is
always a factor, only certain things are possible and hardly anyone
agrees with me.

This is what constantly amazes me about the efficiency with which God
is able to solve our problems. It's not that I have any doubt
concerning his power to create solutions; it's just amazing that he
completes His plans using us! God is a master at solving problems using
the small resources we bring to the table.

One story that shows God's desire to empower us is when Jesus took five
small loaves of bread and two fish to feed a large crowd. As thousands
of people gathered near Jesus, he began to question his disciples about
how the crowd would eat. One of Jesus' disciples, Philip, answered him
explaining that "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for
each one to have a bite!" Then another disciple came forward; Andrew,
Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, "Here is a boy with five small barley
loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"

How foolish Andrew must have felt with this suggestion. The problem has
been defined; five thousand people need food to eat. Jesus must find a
solution and the best idea that comes up is five small loaves and two
fish. Jesus could have easily made bread fall from heaven or fish fall
from the sky, but instead he empowered the resources around him. He
took Andrew's suggestion and made it work.

Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass
in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them.
Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those
who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the
fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his
disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be
wasted." So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the
pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began
to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world"
(John 6:10-14).

How far will they go among so many?

In the same way, God continues to solve our problems today. We come to
the table offering very little, but the power of God solves the
greatest problems. We are empowered through the Holy Spirit to
accomplish God's will for our lives.

plan for your life, please visit our website at www.hopeforlife.org.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Temple 1

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Temple 1
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
So Solomon finished building the Temple of the LORD, as well as the royal palace. He completed everything he had planned to do. Then one night the LORD appeared to Solomon and said, "I have heard your prayer and have chosen this Temple as the place for making sacrifices." 2 Chronicles 7:11-12 NLT

If you are much of a Bible scholar, you will know to which verse this series is leading. We are going to look for the few days leading into the new year at a passage of scripture that will end with a well known verse. My hope and desire is that we will further appreciate what the Lord was saying when we get to that verse. My experience in reading scripture has been that the more of it I read around a verse that speaks to me, the better I understand the verse.

Solomon was the wisest man of all times. As you may recall, God had allowed David's son, Solomon, to make any request of Him. Solomon chose to receive wisdom. Impressed with Solomon's request, He gave Him wisdom and so much more. Solomon decided it was time to build the Lord a temple. He went to great expense and planning to construct just the right place to honor God, and in which to store the ark of the covenant.

In dedicating the temple, Solomon recognized that really no place was adequate for God, for no building could contain Him, but that this was a sincere attempt to please God. God was indeed pleased with all that Solomon had done. God says, as today's verse indicates, that this temple is an acceptable place in which to bring sacrifices to the Lord. Solomon must have been humbled.

Let me ask you? Isn't it a great feeling to know that you have done something to please the Lord? Have you ever felt that God was satisfied with you? I don't think God was so much satisfied with the size of the temple. When you have created a universe, is there any building that will impress you? No, I think God was pleased with the attitude in which Solomon built the temple. He did i t soley out of love and devotion to His Heavenly Father; in gratitude for all He had done for him.

Do you want God to be pleased with you in the next century? Be like Solomon today. Have an attitude of recognition of who God is, and do something for Him just because you love Him, expecting nothing in return.

Morning & Evening -- Colossians 4:2 and Isaiah 41:1

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

MORNING:

"Continue in prayer."
-- Colossians 4:2

It is interesting to remark how large a portion of Sacred Writ is
occupied with the subject of prayer, either in furnishing examples,
enforcing precepts, or pronouncing promises. We scarcely open the Bible
before we read, "Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord;" and
just as we are about to close the volume, the "Amen" of an earnest
supplication meets our ear. Instances are plentiful. Here we find a
wrestling Jacob-there a Daniel who prayed three times a day-and a David
who with all his heart called upon his God. On the mountain we see
Elias; in the dungeon Paul and Silas. We have multitudes of commands,
and myriads of promises. What does this teach us, but the sacred
importance and necessity of prayer? We may be certain that whatever God
has made prominent in his Word, he intended to be conspicuous in our
lives. If he has said much about prayer, it is because he knows we have
much need of it. So deep are our necessities, that until we are in
heaven we must not cease to pray. Dost thou want nothing? Then, I fear
thou dost not know thy poverty. Hast thou no mercy to ask of God? Then,
may the Lord's mercy show thee thy misery! A prayerless soul is a
Christless soul. Prayer is the lisping of the believing infant, the
shout of the fighting believer, the requiem of the dying saint falling
asleep in Jesus. It is the breath, the watchword, the comfort, the
strength, the honour of a Christian. If thou be a child of God, thou
wilt seek thy Father's face, and live in thy Father's love. Pray that
this year thou mayst be holy, humble, zealous, and patient; have closer
communion with Christ, and enter oftener into the banqueting-house of
his love. Pray that thou mayst be an example and a blessing unto
others, and that thou mayst live more to the glory of thy Master. The
motto for this year must be, "Continue in prayer."

EVENING:

"Let the people renew their strength."
-- Isaiah 41:1

All things on earth need to be renewed. No created thing continueth by
itself. "Thou renewest the face of the year," was the Psalmist's
utterance. Even the trees, which wear not themselves with care, nor
shorten their lives with labour, must drink of the rain of heaven and
suck from the hidden treasures of the soil. The cedars of Lebanon,
which God has planted, only live because day by day they are full of
sap fresh drawn from the earth. Neither can man's life be sustained
without renewal from God. As it is necessary to repair the waste of the
body by the frequent meal, so we must repair the waste of the soul by
feeding upon the Book of God, or by listening to the preached Word, or
by the soul-fattening table of the ordinances. How depressed are our
graces when means are neglected! What poor starvelings some saints are
who live without the diligent use of the Word of God and secret prayer!
If our piety can live without God it is not of divine creating; it is
but a dream; for if God had begotten it, it would wait upon him as the
flowers wait upon the dew. Without constant restoration we are not
ready for the perpetual assaults of hell, or the stern afflictions of
heaven, or even for the strifes within. When the whirlwind shall be
loosed, woe to the tree that hath not sucked up fresh sap, and grasped
the rock with many intertwisted roots. When tempests arise, woe to the
mariners that have not strengthened their mast, nor cast their anchor,
nor sought the haven. If we suffer the good to grow weaker, the evil
will surely gather strength and struggle desperately for the mastery
over us; and so, perhaps, a painful desolation, and a lamentable
disgrace may follow. Let us draw near to the footstool of divine mercy
in humble entreaty, and we shall realize the fulfilment of the promise,
"They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Will You Go Out Without Knowing?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 2, 2008

WILL YOU GO OUT WITHOUT KNOWING?

He went out, not knowing whither he went.

Hebrews 11:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=heb+11:8&sr=1

Have you been "out" in this way? If so, there is no logical statement
possible when anyone asks you what you are doing. One of the
difficulties in Christian work is this question - "What do you expect
to do?" You do not know what you are going to do; the only thing you
know is that God knows what He is doing. Continually revise your
attitude towards God and see if it is a going out of everything,
trusting in God entirely. It is this attitude that keeps you in
perpetual wonder - you do not know what God is going to do next. Each
morning you wake it is to be a "going out," building in confidence on
God. "Take no thought for your life,...nor yet for your body" - take
no thought for the things for which you did take thought before you
"went out."

Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell
you. God does not tell you what He is going to do; He reveals to you
Who He is. Do you believe in a miracle-working God, and will you go
out in surrender to Him until you are not surprised an atom at
anything He does?

Suppose God is the God you know Him to be when you are nearest to Him
- what an impertinence worry is! Let the attitude of the life be a
continual "going out" in dependence upon God, and your life will have
an ineffable charm about it which is a satisfaction to Jesus. You
have to learn to go out of convictions, out of creeds, out of
experiences, until so far as your faith is concerned, there is
nothing between yourself and God.

GOOD NEWS FOR EVERY NATION

Romans 1:1-4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+1:1-4

Dear Father, who commissioned the Good News to all nations,

Thank you that through Christ we have received grace and been
commissioned to spread the Good News everywhere to bring about the
obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,
including our own.

Thank you that we here in our country are also called to belong to
Jesus Christ. May the grace and peace that comes from you, our
Father, and from Jesus be showered upon all of us who claim your
promises.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have
received grace, I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Prepare the Way -- Mark 1:1-3

Prepare the Way

The Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begins with
what the prophet Isaiah said would happen. Isaiah wrote:
"Listen! I (God) will send my helper ahead of you. He will
prepare the way for you." "There is a person shouting in the
desert: 'Prepare the way for the Lord. Make his paths
straight.'"

-- Mark 1:1-3 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Where does the Gospel actually begin? Where does God's good news
originate? Matthew and Luke begin their accounts of Jesus' life with
the stories surrounding his birth. John begins with the creation of the
world where the Son of God was not only present, but also did the
creating. Mark, with his focus on good news, chooses to begin a
different place. If folks are going to be open to the good news of God,
then someone is going to have to be a servant and prepare the way for
Jesus to come and for his word to be heard. In many ways, the good news
always begins in this place. The real question is whether we are
willing to be used as servants like John the Baptist -- who is
introduced in the next verse -- and prepare the way for Jesus' good
news to be heard by our friends.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father in heaven, please use my life to prepare the way for Jesus to
come with his good news into the lives of my friends, acquaintances,
and family. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
