Today's Verse : 2 Timothy 1:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 17, 2007

VERSE:
I am suffering ... Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I
have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I
have entrusted to him for that day.
-- 2 Timothy 1:12

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Timothy+1:12

THOUGHT:
As Paul faced very difficult circumstances near the end of his
life, many of those he had led to the Lord abandoned him. But he
was confident that the Lord would not abandon him! He had committed
his life to Jesus as Lord. That Lord would ensure that the
investment Paul had made would not be wasted. His life, his future,
and his eternal destiny were entrusted to the Lord. He was
confident that they were also secure in the Lord. He believed with
every fiber of his being that on a special day known only to God,
Jesus will return and every knee will bow and Paul's faith in the
Lord will be joyously validated.

PRAYER:
Almighty God, I believe, but please strengthen my faith so that
no matter what I may endure, my confidence in you will remain firm
and my hope may remain vibrant. I entrust to you all that I am and
all that I hope to be, believing fully that you will bring me
through whatever lies ahead and bring me into your glorious
presence with great joy. In Jesus' glorious name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Abraham Five

He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. Genesis 12:5 NIV

Do you know why Abram arrived in Canaan? It was not because he traveled night and day to get there. It wasn't because he followed the signs on the highway. There weren't any. It wasn't because he was a skilled mover. It wasn't even because his wife Sarai was a great map reader or because she stopped to ask directions. Abram arrived in the land to which God had led him, because God had pre-ordained his destination!

God said to Abram, "Go!". Abram obeyed God, packed up, and left, headed for a land of which he had never seen or heard. God did not send Abram without first preparing the way. Abram had not seen Canaan, but God had. Abram did not know the people of Canaan, but God did. Abram didn't know the way to Canaan, but God already knew each step Abram would need to take. Abram reached the land God wanted him to reach, because God had prepared the way!

Do you sometimes feel you are spinning your wheels, not really accomplishing as much as you would like? All of us do at times. God knows that part of our heart. I'm quite confident that Abram may have had those emotions at times. When the road got long and the traveling got old, Abram probably felt he had missed God's calling. But, God got him there, because that was God's will for Abram's life.

Guess what? He who began a good work in your life will be faithful to complete it, as well, just as He did for Abram! God is in control! Trust Him in all His ways!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Leaving a Legacy of Faith, by Paul Faulkner

Children, listen to me, and I will teach you to respect the Lord (Psalm
34:11 ERV).

What do you owe your kids? I believe God expects us to give our
children these four things:

* all the unconditional love and affirmation they can hold

* a great parental model to follow

* a Christian value system on which they can build their lives

* great family memories

All parents can give their kids four gifts.

Now other things are important as well, like a good education and
healthcare, but these require financial resources not all parents have.

However, all parents can give their kids these four gifts. We can model
what we need to be, because our Father modeled for us. We can give
unconditional love, because Jesus gave it to us. And the Bible contains
the value system to live by, and the great memories are a by-product of
the other three.

What are you doing to pass these on to your children today?

---------

Morning & Evening -- Lamentations 3:24 and Isaiah 33:17

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 16, 2007

MORNING:

"The Lord is my portion, saith my soul."
-- Lamentations 3:24

It is not "The Lord is partly my portion," nor "The Lord is in my
portion"; but he himself makes up the sum total of my soul's
inheritance. Within the circumference of that circle lies all that we
possess or desire. The Lord is my portion. Not his grace merely, nor
his love, nor his covenant, but Jehovah himself. He has chosen us for
his portion, and we have chosen him for ours. It is true that the Lord
must first choose our inheritance for us, or else we shall never choose
it for ourselves; but if we are really called according to the purpose
of electing love, we can sing-

"Lov'd of my God for him again
With love intense I burn;
Chosen of him ere time began,
I choose him in return."

The Lord is our all-sufficient portion. God fills himself; and if God
is all-sufficient in himself, he must be all- sufficient for us. It is
not easy to satisfy man's desires. When he dreams that he is satisfied,
anon he wakes to the perception that there is somewhat yet beyond, and
straightway the horse-leech in his heart cries, "Give, give." But all
that we can wish for is to be found in our divine portion, so that we
ask, "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that
I desire beside thee." Well may we "delight ourselves in the Lord" who
makes us to drink of the river of his pleasures. Our faith stretches
her wings and mounts like an eagle into the heaven of divine love as to
her proper dwelling-place. "The lines have fallen to us in pleasant
places; yea, we have a goodly heritage." Let us rejoice in the Lord
always; let us show to the world that we are a happy and a blessed
people, and thus induce them to exclaim, "We will go with you, for we
have heard that God is with you."

EVENING:

"Thine eyes shall see the King in his beauty."
-- Isaiah 33:17

The more you know about Christ the less will you be satisfied with
superficial views of him; and the more deeply you study his
transactions in the eternal covenant, his engagements on your behalf as
the eternal Surety, and the fulness of his grace which shines in all
his offices, the more truly will you see the King in his beauty. Be
much in such outlooks. Long more and more to see Jesus. Meditation and
contemplation are often like windows of agate, and gates of carbuncle,
through which we behold the Redeemer. Meditation puts the telescope to
the eye, and enables us to see Jesus after a better sort than we could
have seen him if we had lived in the days of his flesh. Would that our
conversation were more in heaven, and that we were more taken up with
the person, the work, the beauty of our incarnate Lord. More
meditation, and the beauty of the King would flash upon us with more
resplendence. Beloved, it is very probable that we shall have such a
sight of our glorious King as we never had before, when we come to die.
Many saints in dying have looked up from amidst the stormy waters, and
have seen Jesus walking on the waves of the sea, and heard him say, "It
is I, be not afraid." Ah, yes! when the tenement begins to shake, and
the clay falls away, we see Christ through the rifts, and between the
rafters the sunlight of heaven comes streaming in. But if we want to
see face to face the "King in his beauty" we must go to heaven for the
sight, or the King must come here in person. O that he would come on
the wings of the wind! He is our Husband, and we are widowed by his
absence; he is our Brother dear and fair, and we are lonely without
him. Thick veils and clouds hang between our souls and their true life:
when shall the day break and the shadows flee away? Oh, long-expected
day, begin!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Still Human!"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 16, 2007

STILL HUMAN!

Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1co+10:31&sr=1

The great marvel of the Incarnation slips into ordinary childhood's
life; the great marvel of the Transfiguration vanishes in the
devil-possessed valley; the glory of the Resurrection descends into a
breakfast on the sea-shore. This is not an anti-climax, but a great
revelation of God.

The tendency is to look for the marvellous in our experience; we
mistake the sense of the heroic for being heroes. It is one thing to
go through a crisis grandly, but another thing to go through every
day glorifying God when there is no witness, no limelight, no one
paying the remotest attention to us. If we do not want mediaeval
haloes, we want something that will make people say - What a
wonderful man of prayer he is! What a pious devoted woman she is! If
you are rightly devoted to the Lord Jesus, you have reached the
sublime height where no one ever thinks of noticing you, all that is
noticed is that the power of God comes through you all the time.

Oh, I have had a wonderful call from God! It takes Almighty God
Incarnate in us to do the meanest duty to the glory of God. It takes
God's Spirit in us to make us so absolutely humanly His that we are
utterly unnoticeable. The test of the life of a saint is not success,
but faithfulness in human life as it actually is. We will set up
success in Christian work as the aim; the aim is to manifest the
glory of God in human life, to live the life hid with Christ in God
in human conditions. Our human relationships are the actual
conditions in which the ideal life of God is to be exhibited.

WJD! -- God Forbid! -- Luke 20:14-16

God Forbid!

"When the farmers saw the son, they said to each other, 'This
is the owner's son. This vineyard will be his. If we kill
him, then it will be ours!' So the farmers threw the son out
of the vineyard and killed him. What will the owner of the
vineyard do? He will come and kill those farmers! Then he
will lease the land to some other farmers." The people heard
this story. They said, "No! This should never happen!"

-- Luke 20:14-16 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
"God forbid!" the people cried out when they heard Jesus' story. But
God didn't stop the horrible events of the trial, rejection and
crucifixion from happening. In fact, these events show his love for us
and demonstrate Jesus' obedience to God. Jesus' crucifixion is horrible
.. unconscionable ... and despicable. In normal human circumstances
they would have been deplorable. Jesus, however, is much more than son
of the farm owner; he is the Son of God and heir to all that belongs to
God. Yet he will be treated with utmost contempt. It is so sad ... yet
it is also our salvation!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you for your mercy and grace. I am sorry that it cost so
much to share it with me and that Jesus had to endure so much for me.
Make me worthy of this great cost by the sanctifying power of your Holy
Spirit. In Jesus' name. Amen.
