Speaking Well of God

Speaking Well of God

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1Pet 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who according to His great mercy has regenerated us unto
a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the
dead,
Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the
heavenlies in Christ,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In Greek the word blessed means well spoken of, praised with
adoration. Hence, a blessing is a well-speaking, and to bless
someone is to speak well of him. Therefore, to bless God is to
speak 80 well concerning Him and all that He is to us, has done
for us, and will do for us. To bless God is to speak in a sweet
way of what God is, of what He has done, and of what He will do.
This kind of speaking is a blessing.

Many Christians think that to bless God is to praise Him. This
understanding of blessing certainly is not wrong. Whenever you
are about to praise God, you need to speak something about Him.
However, in what way shall we praise God? Many Christians praise
God mainly for material things. They may say, "Oh, blessed be
God the Father! Praise Him for giving me a good business, a
large house, and a nice family." This falls far short of the
revelation in 1:3-12.

These ten verses in chapter one of 1 Peter tell us what the
Father has done for us through the Son and by the Spirit. Verses
3 through 12 are one long sentence of blessing, of well-
speaking, of God the Father, disclosing to us His marvelous and
excellent salvation, beginning from the regeneration of our
spirit (v. 3) and consummating in the salvation of our soul (v.
9), accomplished through the sufferings of Christ and His
glories (v. 11), and applied to us by the Holy Spirit (v. 12).
Based upon this, verse 13 begins an exhortation to those who are
participating in the full salvation operated by the Triune God
according to His economy.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Living on Beam Unending, by Ann Voskamp

There is a patch behind the country church with its split rail fence,
there beside the quiet of the woods, where heaven meets earth and I
stand there in the early morning still. Clouds, gray and swelling with
spring, loll over. Brown leaves, fall's remnant left behind by winter
just gone, lay wet underfoot. Only the sound of water trickling off the
water mill there in the pond meanders up through the trees, asking me
if I want to fall down too. I think that is why I came.

Tentative, I step closer and let my hand feel the weathered wood, wet
from last night's rain, of that Cross that grows out of the earth back
here. An Old Rugged Cross.

Fingertips brush the moss that clings to the grooved grain, new life
out of that which died. Without fanfare, velvet moss pulls up over the
crossbeam's nakedness. It's just two lengths of lumber. tree long dead,
I know, but where it takes me, to the intersection of history, of
humanity and its Maker, of my sin and His mercy, that is the holiness
that hushes me, bringing me low.

I press my forehead against the wood, leaning, It holds. And that verse
from past week's memory work slips up unannounced,

"In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has
sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live
through Him" (1 John 4:9 NKJV).

But to live through Him. Like oxygen.

Not only know Him. Not only be saved by Him, reborn and washed. But to
live through Him. Like oxygen.

Daily, I count gifts, numbering how He loves, and yet it's here at the
Cross He drives the stake into the ground, nails His devotion over
humanity: "In this the love of God was manifested toward us ...."

The common blessings I experience daily only extend the Crossbeam of
Calvary into my everyday, leading me along the Love that supports the
cosmos.

I inhale this place. Today, to live through Him, on this, the beam of
blessing unending.

Morning & Evening -- Matthew 27:51 and Revelation 3:14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, April 19, 2008

MORNING:

"Behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top
to the bottom."
-- Matthew 27:51

No mean miracle was wrought in the rending of so strong and thick a
veil; but it was not intended merely as a display of power-many lessons
were herein taught us. The old law of ordinances was put away, and like
a worn-out vesture, rent and laid aside. When Jesus died, the
sacrifices were all finished, because all fulfilled in him, and
therefore the place of their presentation was marked with an evident
token of decay. That rent also revealed all the hidden things of the
old dispensation: the mercy-seat could now be seen, and the glory of
God gleamed forth above it. By the death of our Lord Jesus we have a
clear revelation of God, for he was "not as Moses, who put a veil over
his face." Life and immortality are now brought to light, and things
which have been hidden since the foundation of the world are manifest
in him. The annual ceremony of atonement was thus abolished. The
atoning blood which was once every year sprinkled within the veil, was
now offered once for all by the great High Priest, and therefore the
place of the symbolical rite was broken up. No blood of bullocks or of
lambs is needed now, for Jesus has entered within the veil with his own
blood. Hence access to God is now permitted, and is the privilege of
every believer in Christ Jesus. There is no small space laid open
through which we may peer at the mercy-seat, but the rent reaches from
the top to the bottom. We may come with boldness to the throne of the
heavenly grace. Shall we err if we say that the opening of the Holy of
Holies in this marvellous manner by our Lord's expiring cry was the
type of the opening of the gates of paradise to all the saints by
virtue of the Passion? Our bleeding Lord hath the key of heaven; he
openeth and no man shutteth; let us enter in with him into the heavenly
places, and sit with him there till our common enemies shall be made
his footstool.

EVENING:

"The Amen."
-- Revelation 3:14

The word AMEN solemnly confirms that which went before; and Jesus is
the great Confirmer; immutable, for ever is "the Amen" in all his
promises. Sinner, I would comfort thee with this reflection. Jesus
Christ said, "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and
I will give you rest." If you come to him, he will say "Amen" in your
soul; his promise shall be true to you. He said in the days of his
flesh, "The bruised reed I will not break." O thou poor, broken,
bruised heart, if thou comest to him, he will say "Amen" to thee, and
that shall be true in thy soul as in hundreds of cases in bygone years.
Christian, is not this very comforting to thee also, that there is not
a word which has gone out of the Saviour's lips which he has ever
retracted? The words of Jesus shall stand when heaven and earth shall
pass away. If thou gettest a hold of but half a promise, thou shalt
find it true. Beware of him who is called "Clip-promise," who will
destroy much of the comfort of God's word.

Jesus is Yea and Amen in all his offices. He was a Priest to pardon and
cleanse once, he is Amen as Priest still. He was a King to rule and
reign for his people, and to defend them with his mighty arm, he is an
Amen King, the same still. He was a Prophet of old, to foretell good
things to come, his lips are most sweet, and drop with honey still-he
is an Amen Prophet. He is Amen as to the merit of his blood; he is Amen
as to his righteousness. That sacred robe shall remain most fair and
glorious when nature shall decay. He is Amen in every single title
which he bears; your Husband, never seeking a divorce; your Friend,
sticking closer than a brother; your Shepherd, with you in death's dark
vale; your Help and your Deliverer; your Castle and your High Tower;
the Horn of your strength, your confidence, your joy, your all in all,
and your Yea and Amen in all.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Is It Not In The Least Likely?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 19, 2008

IS IT NOT IN THE LEAST LIKELY?

For Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not
after Absalom.

1 Kings 2:28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1ki+2:28&sr=1

Joab stood the big test, he remained absolutely loyal and true to
David and did not turn after the fascinating and ambitious Absalom,
but yet to wards the end of his life he turned after the craven
Adonijah. Always remain alert to the fact that where one man has gone
back is exactly where any one may go back (see 1 Cor. 10:13). You
have gone through the big crisis, now be alert over the least things;
take into calculation the "retired sphere of the leasts."

We are apt to say - "It is not in the least likely that having been
through the supreme crisis, I shall turn now to the things of the
world." Do not forecast where the temptation will come, it is the
least likely thing that is the peril. In the aftermath of a great
spiritual transaction the "retired sphere of the leasts" begins to
tell; it is not dominant, but remember it is there, and if you are
not warned, it will trip you up. You have remained true to God under
great and intense trials, now beware of the undercurrent. Do not be
morbidly introspective, looking forward with dread, but keep alert;
keep your memory bright before God. Unguarded strength is double
weakness because that is where the "retired sphere of the leasts"
saps. The Bible characters fell on their strong points, never on
their weak ones.

"Kept by the power of God" - that is the only safety.

Praying with Paul : "Observing the Lord's Supper"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

OBSERVING THE LORD'S SUPPER

1 Corinthians 11:17-23

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+11:17-23

Dear Father, giver of bread and wine,

When we come together as your family to partake of bread and wine,
let it truly be "the Lord's supper" which we eat. Let there be no
divisions or preferences among us, no putting ourselves first, or
putting our group first. Let there be no divisions between rich and
poor, young and old, dark-skinned or light, white collar or blue
collar. Let no one do anything that would humiliate another. For
"the Lord's supper" is a feast of love and unity.

Cause us to remember what was delivered to us by your apostles,
how the Lord Jesus on the night that he was betrayed took bread,
and having given thanks, broke it, and said, "This is my body which
is for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

In the name of Jesus, who is the daily bread and wine of our
lives, I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- Unlimited Resources! -- Mark 6:39-42

Unlimited Resources!

Then Jesus said to the followers, "Tell all the people to sit
in groups on the green grass." So all the people sat in
groups. There were about 50 or 100 people in each group.
Jesus took the five loaves and two fish. He looked up to the
sky and thanked God for the bread. Then Jesus divided the
bread and gave it to his followers. Jesus told his followers
to give the bread to the people. Then Jesus divided the two
fish and gave the fish to the people. All the people ate and
were full.

-- Mark 6:39-42 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' disciples were concerned about the physical needs of the crowd
following Jesus and realized they didn't have the resources to meet
those needs. (See the previous verses.) Now, however, Jesus shows them
the unlimited resources of God when they place what is available in the
hands of the Lord. Jesus took their meager meal of 5 loaves and 2 fish
and made it more than sufficient; he made it ample. Now the Lord looks
to you and me and asks us to offer our resources to him so that he can
bring us the blessing and the provision of God.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O glorious Father in heaven, I believe, but help my unbelief. Help me
offer my limited resources to you so that they will be made sufficient
to do your work and minister to those in need. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

Today's Verse : Galatians 4:19

April 19, 2008

VERSE:
My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth
until Christ is formed in you...
-- Galatians 4:19

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+4:19

THOUGHT:
What was Paul's goal for the new Christians he worked with? He
wanted them to come to full maturity in Christ (see Colossians
1:28-29). He knew the Holy Spirit would help them in this process
if they would focus their hearts on Jesus and seek to reflect
Jesus' character in their lives (2 Corinthians 3:18). So as we go
through our daily activities, let's honor his goal -- let's let
Jesus come to life in us.

PRAYER:
Holy and Righteous God, may the presence of Jesus increase in my
attitude, behavior, and speech and may what is worldly and warped
decrease. May this be true today, but even more, dear Father, may
it be more clearly seen each day. In the name of my Savior and
goal, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
