Collecting the Fingerprints of God, by Ron Rose

Preparation

There were twenty strangers standing around, coffee in hand, scanning
the crowd for familiar faces. We were all waiting for the training
program to begin. "They call me 'Buzzard,' the guy next to me blurted
out, "not sure how it all got started but over the years I've grown
used to it ... my mother even calls me Buzzard now." He looked like a
normal guy, but I wasn't sure I wanted to continue a conversation.

As soon as I shared my name, he hit me with ... "So, what do you
collect?" I know a lot of conversation starters and ice breaking
questions, but this one seemed to be more than a little "off the wall."
"Wall Clocks," I responded.

Then he proceeded to regale me with the glories of his spider
collection.

Lyn and I have dedicated one wall in our family room to a rather
pitiful collection of 24 wall clocks, but neither of us would be called
collectors. My Dad was a collector; when he died his garage was a
museum of junk.

Through the years I have gotten to know people with various kinds of
collections: Ken collects native American art, Bud -- pocketknives,
Joyce -- antique glass, Blake -- writing instruments, Teresa -- shoes,
Gene -- police badges, and Robert built-on a 20x20 room over his garage
to display his Bobbie hats.

Ask a person about what they collect and you are asking them to share
something revealing and personal. You are stepping into their private
world. Not such a strange crowd breaker question after all. "So, what
do you collect?"

Try this answer. "I collect the fingerprints of God. I look for his
touches in my life and the lives of others; and when I find them I
write about them, and I report them. Not long back ..." (Tell about a
time when you saw or felt God in action in your world.)

You can talk about your faith without being religious or offensive.

Inspiration

In April of 2007, USA Today did a short story on Kevin Inciyaki, of
Sierra Madre, California. The story focused on Kevin's love for trash.
Kevin at the time was 9 years old, and fixated on garbage. He not only
likes garbage, but he also likes garbage containers and garbage trucks,
garbage books and garbage videos. His room is filled with everything
garbage.

Early photos of him in the family scrapbook show an eager youngster
inspecting trashcans at Sea World. He even has a photo collection
called "Garbage Trucks of the World" taken for him by family friends on
trips abroad.

Kevin's mother Marsha said, "It's been garbage since he was 2 years
old. You have no idea what it is like having a child who has a passion
for trash."

Why not collect something that lasts forever?

Maybe not, but God does.

Why not collect something that lasts forever and makes God proud in the
process?

Motivation

Some collections are reflections of our passions, some take us down a
dangerous path, some are nothing more than a diversion, or innocent
dabbling, and others become obsessions. What are you collecting?

Join with me in the pioneering venture of building a network of
believers who have become collectors of holy fingerprints.

Keep your eyes and ears open. As you travel, work, walk your
neighborhood, share meals together, and attend social gatherings, look
and listen for the fingerprints of God. He's working everywhere,
sometimes in ways that may appear to be strange and bizarre, but he is
still touching lives and healing hearts. When you hear an account of
his touch ... write it down, save it, share it, and celebrate it.

Click here to submit a story from your collection.

Click here to tell me you are accepting the challenge to become a
collector of holy fingerprints.

Morning & Evening -- Luke 23:33 and Acts 27:23

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, April 10, 2008

MORNING:

"The place which is called Calvary."
-- Luke 23:33

The hill of comfort is the hill of Calvary; the house of consolation is
built with the wood of the cross; the temple of heavenly blessing is
founded upon the riven rock-riven by the spear which pierced his side.
No scene in sacred history ever gladdens the soul like Calvary's
tragedy.

"Is it not strange, the darkest hour
That ever dawned on sinful earth,
Should touch the heart with softer power,
For comfort, than an angel's mirth?
That to the Cross the mourner's eye should turn,
Sooner than where the stars of Bethlehem burn?"

Light springs from the midday-midnight of Golgotha, and every herb of
the field blooms sweetly beneath the shadow of the once accursed tree.
In that place of thirst, grace hath dug a fountain which ever gusheth
with waters pure as crystal, each drop capable of alleviating the woes
of mankind. You who have had your seasons of conflict, will confess
that it was not at Olivet that you ever found comfort, not on the hill
of Sinai, nor on Tabor; but Gethsemane, Gabbatha, and Golgotha have
been a means of comfort to you. The bitter herbs of Gethsemane have
often taken away the bitters of your life; the scourge of Gabbatha has
often scourged away your cares, and the groans of Calvary yields us
comfort rare and rich. We never should have known Christ's love in all
its heights and depths if he had not died; nor could we guess the
Father's deep affection if he had not given his Son to die. The common
mercies we enjoy all sing of love, just as the sea-shell, when we put
it to our ears, whispers of the deep sea whence it came; but if we
desire to hear the ocean itself, we must not look at every-day
blessings, but at the transactions of the crucifixion. He who would
know love, let him retire to Calvary and see the Man of sorrows die.

EVENING:

"For there stood by me this night the angel of God."
-- Acts 27:23

Tempest and long darkness, coupled with imminent risk of shipwreck, had
brought the crew of the vessel into a sad case; one man alone among
them remained perfectly calm, and by his word the rest were reassured.
Paul was the only man who had heart enough to say, "Sirs, be of good
cheer." There were veteran Roman legionaries on board, and brave old
mariners, and yet their poor Jewish prisoner had more spirit than they
all. He had a secret Friend who kept his courage up. The Lord Jesus
despatched a heavenly messenger to whisper words of consolation in the
ear of his faithful servant, therefore he wore a shining countenance
and spake like a man at ease.

If we fear the Lord, we may look for timely interpositions when our
case is at its worst. Angels are not kept from us by storms, or
hindered by darkness. Seraphs think it no humiliation to visit the
poorest of the heavenly family. If angel's visits are few and far
between at ordinary times, they shall be frequent in our nights of
tempest and tossing. Friends may drop from us when we are under
pressure, but our intercourse with the inhabitants of the angelic world
shall be more abundant; and in the strength of love-words, brought to
us from the throne by the way of Jacob's ladder, we shall be strong to
do exploits. Dear reader, is this an hour of distress with you? then
ask for peculiar help. Jesus is the angel of the covenant, and if his
presence be now earnestly sought, it will not be denied. What that
presence brings in heart-cheer those remember who, like Paul, have had
the angel of God standing by them in a night of storm, when anchors
would no longer hold, and rocks were nigh.

"O angel of my God, be near,
Amid the darkness hush my fear;
Loud roars the wild tempestuous sea,
Thy presence, Lord, shall comfort me."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Moral Decision About Sin"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 10, 2008

MORAL DECISION ABOUT SIN

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him,
that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth
we should not serve sin.

Romans 6:6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ro+6:6&sr=1

Co-Crucifixion. Have I made this decision about sin - that it must be
killed right out in me? It takes a long time to come to a moral
decision about sin, but it is the great moment in my life when I do
decide that just as Jesus Christ died for the sin of the world, so
sin must die out in me, not be curbed or suppressed or counteracted,
but crucified. No one can bring anyone else to this decision. We may
be earnestly convinced, and religiously convinced, but what we need
to do is to come to the decision which Paul forces here.

Haul yourself up, take a time alone with God, make the moral decision
and say - "Lord, identify me with Thy death until I know that sin is
dead in me." Make the moral decision that sin in you must be put to
death.

It was not a divine anticipation on the part of Paul, but a very
radical and definite experience. Am I prepared to let the Spirit of
God search me until I know what the disposition of sin is - the thing
that lusts against the Spirit of God in me? Then if so, will I agree
with God's verdict on that disposition of sin - that it should be
identified with the death of Jesus? I cannot reckon myself "dead
indeed unto sin" unless I have been through this radical issue of
will before God.

Have I entered into the glorious privilege of being crucified with
Christ until all that is left is the life of Christ in my flesh and
blood? "I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I,
but Christ liveth in me."

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Stretching Four

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Stretching Four
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house. Luke 10:6-7 NIV

One of the first times I was on the mission field in Brazil I heard the term man of peace. I knew the story of todays Bible passage, but I had never really thought about a modern day man of peace. The term came up in Brazil as we entered a village with unfriendly inhabitants. The man of peace was a well-respected, gentle man. He walked us through the streets. When we were with him the people willingly opened their doors. He led the way to allow us to share the Gospel.

As a church planter, Ive learned that men (and women) of peace are all around today. They are the ones who can get me into see someone who wouldnt normally ever want to see a pastor. They are the ones who live close to people. They are wel l-liked; powerful because of the relationships and respect among people they have developed over the years.

Men of peace are not always believers. In fact, some of the best Ive known were still searching for meaning to life themselves, but for whatever reason, they are willing to open doors for people like me. My job is made easier (or possible at all), because of men of peace. Heres a key principle; sometimes I have to get out of the church and the comforts of being surrounded by like-minded believers to find a man of peace.

Jesus understood this principle. Im learning it.

Praying with Paul : "False Gods"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

FALSE GODS

1 Corinthians 8:7-13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+8:7-13

Dear Father, the one real and only God,

Many do not understand that all reality is rooted in you, so they
chase the "gods" of this world, the "idols" which they worship -
money, fame, glamor, power, security - and in some cases real idols
and the real demons who are behind those idols.

Many brothers and sisters in Christ have recently been freed from
bondage to a culture that worships these false gods, and due to
their weak consciences they can easily be drawn back. Keep me from
pursuing the things they were in the habit of pursuing, lest they
think I am serving their old "gods" and that it is okay for them to
violate their consciences and return to former practices. Don't let
my "knowledge" destroy someone who is weak. May I be willing to
forego any right or privilege rather than cause a brother or sister
to fall.

In the name of Jesus and by his authority I ask these things
according to his will. Amen.

WJD! -- Ministry to All -- Mark 6:12-13

Ministry to All

The followers left there and went to other places. They
talked to the people and told them to change their hearts and
lives. The followers forced many demons out of people. And
the followers put olive oil on sick people and healed them.

-- Mark 6:12-13 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
The disciples told the message to "all" people they met. They didn't
try to pre-decide who would welcome the message and who wouldn't. They
spread their ministry net over a wide area, expanding Jesus' ministry.
They did many good things in the name of Jesus. We MUST learn from
them. The old hymn says, "The blessed Gospel is for all, the Gospel is
for all." It must be. It is not for a select few -- our friends, those
we deem most likely to respond, or those with whom we feel most
comfortable sharing the message. We must tell all to turn their lives
to God and find the blessings of knowing Jesus.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, please forgive any latent prejudice that lingers in my heart
without my awareness. I never want my preconceptions to keep me from
sharing your good news with people. Use my efforts to expand your
Kingdom and reach more people with your saving grace. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 John 4:10

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 10, 2008

VERSE:
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and
sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
-- 1 John 4:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+John+4:10

THOUGHT:
Love is demonstrated, not just said. Love goes ahead sharing
itself instead of waiting until things are easy or safe. Love
redeems when all hope seems lost. Love is not only what God is, but
it is also what he does and what he gives.

PRAYER:
Thank you, dear Heavenly Father, for loving me so extravagantly.
Please help me to see the opportunities to love others whom you
place in my path everyday. Use me to demonstrate your love to
someone today and each day that follows. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
