Knowing God's Measure of Grace (1)

Knowing God's Measure of Grace (1)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matthew 18:26 Then the slave fell down and worshipped him,
saying, Be patient with me and I will repay you all. (27)
And the master of that slave was moved with compassion and
released him and forgave him the loan.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

[Part 1 of 2]
The gospel is not God working for you according to your idea.
You may say, "Lord, be patient with me, and I will repay You
all," but the Lord does not respond by saying, "Pay what you
have and repay the rest later." The Lord forgave all of your
debt. Man's prayers and requests do not even come close to
the grace of the Lord. Our Lord works for us and answers our
prayer according to what He has. The master of the slave
released him and forgave the debt. This is God's grace; this
is His measure. Anyone who asks for grace will receive grace
from God, even though his knowledge of grace is very limited.
We should be clear about this principle: The Lord loves to
bestow grace on men. As long as we have a little desire for
grace, the Lord will pour it out on us. He is afraid that we
will not ask. As soon as a man hopes a little and opens his
mouth to say, "Lord, be gracious to me," the Lord pours out
His grace to him.

We need to realize that salvation is accomplished in
man according to God's measure. Salvation is not carried
out according to man's thought. It is accomplished in man
according to God's thought and plan.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Playing Through Your Pain, by Rubel Shelly

Whether you play golf or not, you surely know the name Tiger Woods. So
bear with me. This week's article (from FAX of Life) isn't so much
about golf as life.

Almost a month ago now, Tiger outlasted Rocco Mediate in this year's
U.S. Open. Playing the course at Torrey Pines in San Diego, the two
were tied after four days. They were still tied at the end of an
18-hole playoff. Tiger won on the first sudden death hole. Some say it
was the greatest U.S. Open in history.

No, the score wasn't the lowest ever. No, it wasn't won by an eagle
from the fairway. No, there was no miracle shot that ended things. The
miracle was that the man who won was able to complete the competition.

Tiger Woods played the tournament with a torn anterior cruciate
ligament and two stress fractures below the left knee. As I watched
part of the Open on TV, it was obvious that the world's greatest golfer
was in excruciating pain at times. His powerful swing would contort his
whole body, wrench his injured knee in particular, and register quite
dramatically on his ordinarily poised face.

Golf is only a game, but watching a professional athlete compete
through such pain was inspiring. He could have simply withdrawn because
of the injury. Fans would have been disappointed but would have
understood. He could have played to his pain and hit the ball less
aggressively. He might have fallen back into the pack and taken a high
score and low finish. He would have none of it.

Tiger played through his pain. He wouldn't quit. He gave his best on
every hole. He insisted on playing to his full potential -- even when
that potential was putting both his body and mind under incredible
stress. Hooray for him!

There are pains of all kinds.

The winner of this year's U.S. Open had successful reconstructive
surgery on his damaged knee about ten days later. He will miss the
remainder of this year's PGA tournament events, of course, while he
rehabs the knee. But few people doubt he will be ready to play the tour
next year. He is, after all, Tiger Woods. He is the ultimate
competitor. He doesn't quit.

There are pains of all kinds. Physical trauma, broken relationships,
failed ventures, consequences of wrongs done -- all are different and
all the same. And each of us has to decide about quitting, playing to
the pain, or working through.

As you're deciding what to do with yours, think about why so many
people are speaking of Tiger Woods with such admiration these days --
even the folks like me, who hardly know which end of a golf club to
hold.

True courage isn't just outlasting difficulty, but turning it into
triumph.

Morning & Evening -- Genesis 39:12 and Hosea 5:15

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 25, 2008

MORNING:

"He left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out."
-- Genesis 39:12

In contending with certain sins there remains no mode of victory but by
flight. The ancient naturalists wrote much of basilisks, whose eyes
fascinated their victims and rendered them easy victims; so the mere
gaze of wickedness puts us in solemn danger. He who would be safe from
acts of evil must haste away from occasions of it. A covenant must be
made with our eyes not even to look upon the cause of temptation, for
such sins only need a spark to begin with and a blaze follows in an
instant. Who would wantonly enter the leper's prison and sleep amid its
horrible corruption? He only who desires to be leprous himself would
thus court contagion. If the mariner knew how to avoid a storm, he
would do anything rather than run the risk of weathering it. Cautious
pilots have no desire to try how near the quicksand they can sail, or
how often they may touch a rock without springing a leak; their aim is
to keep as nearly as possible in the midst of a safe channel.

This day I may be exposed to great peril, let me have the serpent's
wisdom to keep out of it and avoid it. The wings of a dove may be of
more use to me to-day than the jaws of a lion. It is true I may be an
apparent loser by declining evil company, but I had better leave my
cloak than lose my character; it is not needful that I should be rich,
but it is imperative upon me to be pure. No ties of friendship, no
chains of beauty, no flashings of talent, no shafts of ridicule must
turn me from the wise resolve to flee from sin. The devil I am to
resist and he will flee from me, but the lusts of the flesh, I must
flee, or they will surely overcome me. O God of holiness preserve thy
Josephs, that Madam Bubble bewitch them not with her vile suggestions.
May the horrible trinity of the world, the flesh, and the devil, never
overcome us!

EVENING:

"In their affliction they will seek me early."
-- Hosea 5:15

Losses and adversities are frequently the means which the great
Shepherd uses to fetch home his wandering sheep; like fierce dogs they
worry the wanderers back to the fold. There is no making lions tame if
they are too well fed; they must be brought down from their great
strength, and their stomachs must be lowered, and then they will submit
to the tamer's hand; and often have we seen the Christian rendered
obedient to the Lord's will by straitness of bread and hard labour.
When rich and increased in goods many professors carry their heads much
too loftily, and speak exceeding boastfully. Like David, they flatter
themselves, "My mountain standeth fast; I shall never be moved." When
the Christian groweth wealthy, is in good repute, hath good health, and
a happy family, he too often admits Mr. Carnal Security to feast at his
table, and then if he be a true child of God there is a rod preparing
for him. Wait awhile, and it may be you will see his substance melt
away as a dream. There goes a portion of his estate-how soon the acres
change hands. That debt, that dishonoured bill-how fast his losses roll
in, where will they end? It is a blessed sign of divine life if when
these embarrassments occur one after another he begins to be distressed
about his backslidings, and betakes himself to his God. Blessed are the
waves that wash the mariner upon the rock of salvation! Losses in
business are often sanctified to our soul's enriching. If the chosen
soul will not come to the Lord full-handed, it shall come empty. If
God, in his grace, findeth no other means of making us honour him among
men, he will cast us into the deep; if we fail to honour him on the
pinnacle of riches, he will bring us into the valley of poverty. Yet
faint not, heir of sorrow, when thou art thus rebuked, rather recognize
the loving hand which chastens, and say, "I will arise, and go unto my
Father."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Am I Blessed Like This?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 25, 2008

AM I BLESSED LIKE THIS?

Blessed are ..."

Matthew 5:3-10
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+5:3-10&sr=1

When we first read the statements of Jesus they seem wonderfully
simple and unstartling, and they sink unobserved into our unconscious
minds. For instance, the Beatitudes seem merely mild and beautiful
precepts for all unworldly and useless people, but of very little
practical use in the stern workaday world in which we live. We soon
find, however, that the Beatitudes contain the dynamite of the Holy
Ghost. They explode, as it were, when the circumstances of our lives
cause them to do so. When the Holy Spirit brings to our remembrance
one of these Beatitudes we say - 'What a startling statement that
is!' and we have to decide whether we will accept the tremendous
spiritual upheaval that will be produced in our circumstances if we
obey His words. That is the way the Spirit of God works. We do not
need to be born again to apply the Sermon on the Mount literally. The
literal interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount is child's play;
the interpretation by the Spirit of God as He applies Our Lord's
statements to our circumstances is the stern work of a saint.

The teaching of Jesus is out of all proportion to our natural way of
looking at things and it comes with astonishing discomfort to begin
with. We have slowly to form our walk and conversation on the line of
the precepts of Jesus Christ as the Holy Spirit applies them to our
circumstances. The Sermon on the Mount is not a set of rules and
regulations: it is a statement of the life we will live when the Holy
Spirit is getting His way with us.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Forgetting Heart

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Forgetting Heart
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 2 Corinthians 5:16 NIV

If Christ died for us, and if we now live for Him, then our view of others has to change. No longer do we see people through the worlds eyes, but since Christ now lives within us, we see others through the eyes of Christ. Wow, that will change your perspective!

Some people are difficult to love, arent they? By the standards of this world, we often have categories for the people we encounter. Some people are more acceptable than others, when we approach life from this world view. Not long ago I was asked to preach two services at a nearby jail. As I preached to the men on the other side of the bars I was humbled to remember that God loves them as much as He love me. I began to reflect on some of the things I have done wrong in my life, and yet how wonderfully God has accepted me.

Thankfully God has a forgetting heart. The Bible says He throws our sins into the sea of forgetfullness. God has allowed us, however, to remember the sins He has forgotten. I think He does this so that we will never forget how gracious He has been to us.

When we consider Gods grace and mercy applied to our lives, how can we not look at others and apply the same forgiveness? How can we not look at them through the eyes of Christ?

Dear God, help us today to apply the principle of grace to those around us, to see others through Your perspective, and help us to love and forgive as we have been loved and forgiven.

Praying with Paul : "Esteem, Peace, and Help"

ESTEEM, PEACE, AND HELP

1 Thessalonians 5:12-15
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Thessalonians+5:12-15

Dear Father, patient one,

Give us hearts that gladly show respect for those who labor among
us and who lead us and admonish us in the Lord. Fill us with great
esteem and deep love for them because of their work in the Lord.
May we always be at peace among ourselves.

Keep us from being idle or faint-hearted. May we admonish and
encourage those who are. Help us help those who are weak and to be
patient with everyone.

Let none of us repay evil for evil, but always seek to do good to
one another and to everyone.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- Fearful Following -- Mark 10:32

Fearful Following

Jesus and the people with him were going to Jerusalem. Jesus
was leading the people. Jesus' followers were amazed. But
those people that followed behind them were afraid. Jesus
gathered the twelve apostles again and talked with them
alone. Jesus told them what would happen in Jerusalem.

-- Mark 10:32 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Two things strike me powerfully about these verses and the people they
describe. First, despite their great fear, Jesus' followers still
followed him even though they knew danger awaited them. This is a great
reminder that faith can help lead us on to face life's biggest
challenges even when we can't understand exactly what is going on and
when we're not really ready for the challenges. Second, Jesus knew what
lay ahead for himself, but rather than looking after his own needs, he
was busy trying to prepare his followers for what lay ahead. Jesus was
a servant to his followers even to the very end when he displayed the
ultimate act of service and gave his life for them and also for us.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O God, give those of us who follow Jesus faith that can inspire our
courage and keep us following even when we can't understand. To face
life's biggest challenges with question marks and confusion is very
difficult for us, but we do trust that you will lead us through. We
only ask that our faith not fail us! In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Acts 7:25

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 25, 2008

VERSE:
Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was
using him to rescue them, but they did not.
-- Acts 7:25
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Acts+7:25

THOUGHT:
Timing is everything. Well, not everything, but an important
thing. God's plan and power provide us with everything. Finding his
timing for that plan and power is crucial. When Moses took it upon
himself to redeem God's people, he failed. After being humbled in
the wilderness, God called him back to deliver the people at the
divine moment and according to the Almighty's plan. The results led
to the Exodus -- the redemption and rebirth of God's holy people.

PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, I am often impatient and frustrated by
having to wait. Forgive me, dear God, for trying to rush your
timetable and for assuming my plan is your plan. Please give me
wisdom to know what do, where to go, and when to act. In Jesus'
name I pray for this patience and wisdom. Amen.
