Mustard Seed Thoughts: The Storm Growth, Part 3

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
The Storm Growth, Part 3
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Leaving the crowd behind, they took Him along, just as He was, in the boat. There were also other boats with Him. Mark 4:36 NIV

Not fully knowing all of Jesus intentions for a nighttime boat ride, the disciples followed their Lords lead and got into the boat. I love the phrase, they took Him along, just as He was.

At some point in your Christian life you will have to surrender your plans to Gods plans. You must give up your agenda for Gods agenda.

The disciples didnt try to change Jesus to meet their needs or desires. They didnt reschedule the appointment. They didnt try to change the appearance of Jesus. They didnt try and make Jesus fit into their view of who God was supposed to be. They didn't even try to change boats! They took Jesus just as He was.

Have you accepted Jesus just as He is? The world wants to make Jesus fit into its concept of God. Most people want to accept the Jesus who doesnt make them too uncomfortable. T hey want a Jesus that wont stretch them too far. They want a Jesus that wont disrupt their neat little plans for life. The world today wants a tolerant Jesus; a Jesus willing to accept the desires of the world.

Jesus came, in His own words, to turn father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother. Jesus came to be a dividing line between the truth and a lie. Jesus came to separate light from darkness. Jesus came to be the Savior to all who would believe, but to be the rejecter of all who refuse to call upon His Name. Have you taken THIS Jesus...just as this Jesus is? Dear friend, He will not be accepted any other way!

Dear God, help us to accept You in spirit and truth just as You are!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Giving What Can't Be Kept, by Tim Archer

Jim Eliot had decided to go to Ecuador, seeking to take God's good news
to indigenous tribes who had never heard of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately
he lost his life in the effort, being murdered by the very Indians he
sought to teach. Later, however, Jim's widow Elisabeth was able to go
to those same aboriginal people and teach them about Jesus.

Years before going to Ecuador, Jim had written in his diary some
intriguing words. He wrote, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot
keep to gain what he cannot lose." That's a powerful statement. It is
not foolish to give up this life (which can't be kept) to gain a life
that can't be lost (eternal life). Whatever we have to do in this life
to obtain eternal life is certainly worth it.

Jesus stated it in even stronger terms. Not only is it not foolish to
give up this life to obtain eternal life, it's necessary. Listen to how
the writer Luke reports it:

Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must
deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever
wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for
me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world,
and yet lose or forfeit his very self?" (Luke 9:23-25)

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose

Jesus said that the only way to save our life is to lose it. That is,
the only way to obtain eternal life is to let go of this life. We have
to be willing to turn our back on all this world offers.

The apostle Paul wrote: "I consider that our present sufferings are not
worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us" (Romans
8:18). In another letter, he wrote, "For our light and momentary
troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them
all" (2 Corinthians 4:17). What he is saying is that any suffering that
we go through in this life is nothing compared to an eternity in the
presence of God. Think about it. What if we could draw a line that
stretched for all eternity? (That's obviously impossible, but use your
imagination). In that timeline that has no end, how much space would we
dedicate to our life here on earth? If we drew the tiniest dot, a mere
point on that line, it would be far too large. This life is nothing
compared to the one to come.

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot
lose. Don't spend so much time focused on a life that can't be kept
that you miss out on the life that can't be lost. Want to know more?

Morning & Evening -- 1 John 4:13 and Job 14:14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

MORNING:

"We dwell in him."
-- 1 John 4:13

Do you want a house for your soul? Do you ask, "What is the purchase?"
It is something less than proud human nature will like to give. It is
without money and without price. Ah! you would like to pay a
respectable rent! You would love to do something to win Christ? Then
you cannot have the house, for it is "without price." Will you take my
Master's house on a lease for all eternity, with nothing to pay for it,
nothing but the ground-rent of loving and serving him for ever? Will
you take Jesus and "dwell in him?" See, this house is furnished with
all you want, it is filled with riches more than you will spend as long
as you live. Here you can have intimate communion with Christ and feast
on his love; here are tables well-stored with food for you to live on
for ever; in it, when weary, you can find rest with Jesus; and from it
you can look out and see heaven itself. Will you have the house? Ah! if
you are houseless, you will say, "I should like to have the house; but
may I have it?" Yes; there is the key-the key is, "Come to Jesus."
"But," you say, "I am too shabby for such a house." Never mind; there
are garments inside. If you feel guilty and condemned, come; and though
the house is too good for you, Christ will make you good enough for the
house by-and-by. He will wash you and cleanse you, and you will yet be
able to sing, "We dwell in him." Believer: thrice happy art thou to
have such a dwelling-place! Greatly privileged thou art, for thou hast
a "strong habitation" in which thou art ever safe. And "dwelling in
him," thou hast not only a perfect and secure house, but an everlasting
one. When this world shall have melted like a dream, our house shall
live, and stand more imperishable than marble, more solid than granite,
self-existent as God, for it is God himself-"We dwell in him."

EVENING:

"All the days of my appointed time will I wait."
-- Job 14:14

A little stay on earth will make heaven more heavenly. Nothing makes
rest so sweet as toil; nothing renders security so pleasant as exposure
to alarms. The bitter quassia cups of earth will give a relish to the
new wine which sparkles in the golden bowls of glory. Our battered
armour and scarred countenances will render more illustrious our
victory above, when we are welcomed to the seats of those who have
overcome the world. We should not have full fellowship with Christ if
we did not for awhile sojourn below, for he was baptized with a baptism
of suffering among men, and we must be baptized with the same if we
would share his kingdom. Fellowship with Christ is so honourable that
the sorest sorrow is a light price by which to procure it. Another
reason for our lingering here is for the good of others. We would not
wish to enter heaven till our work is done, and it may be that we are
yet ordained to minister light to souls benighted in the wilderness of
sin. Our prolonged stay here is doubtless for God's glory. A tried
saint, like a well-cut diamond, glitters much in the King's crown.
Nothing reflects so much honour on a workman as a protracted and severe
trial of his work, and its triumphant endurance of the ordeal without
giving way in any part. We are God's workmanship, in whom he will be
glorified by our afflictions. It is for the honour of Jesus that we
endure the trial of our faith with sacred joy. Let each man surrender
his own longings to the glory of Jesus, and feel, "If my lying in the
dust would elevate my Lord by so much as an inch, let me still lie
among the pots of earth. If to live on earth for ever would make my
Lord more glorious, it should be my heaven to be shut out of heaven."
Our time is fixed and settled by eternal decree. Let us not be anxious
about it, but wait with patience till the gates of pearl shall open.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Liberty On The Abyss Of The Gospel"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 6, 2009

LIBERTY ON THE ABYSS OF THE GOSPEL

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ
hath made us free.

Galatians 5:1
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ga+5:1&sr=1

A spiritually minded man will never come to you with the demand -
"Believe this and that;" but with the demand that you square your
life with the standards of Jesus. We are not asked to believe the
Bible, but to believe the One Whom the Bible reveals (cf. John
5:39-40). We are called to present liberty of conscience, not liberty
of view. If we are free with the liberty of Christ, others will be
brought into that same liberty - the liberty of realizing the
dominance of Jesus Christ.

Always keep your life measured by the standards of Jesus. Bow your
neck to His yoke alone, and to no other yoke whatever; and be careful
to see that you never bind a yoke on others that is not placed by
Jesus Christ. It takes God a long time to get us out of the way of
thinking that unless everyone sees as we do, they must be wrong. That
is never God's view. There is only one liberty, the liberty of Jesus
at work in our conscience enabling us to do what is right.

Don't get impatient, remember how God dealt with you - with patience
and with gentleness; but never water down the truth of God. Let it
have its way and never apologize for it. Jesus said, "Go and make
disciples," not "make converts to your opinions."

LIFE THROUGH CHRIST

1 Corinthians 15:21-23
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:21-23

Dear Father, worthy God,

You have declared that just as death came through the sin of one
man, so life comes through one man's resurrection from the dead. As
in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But
each in his own order: Christ first, then at his coming we who
belong to him.

Thank you, Father, for the assurance you gave by raising him up.
Thank you that his resurrection is our resurrection! Thank you for
this revelation of the order in which it will come.

In the name of Jesus I offer you this thanksgiving and praise for
the most wonderful events of history, Christ's resurrection and
ours. Amen.

WJD! -- Following the Savior -- Matthew 10:24-25

Following the Savior

"A student is not better than his teacher. A servant is not
better than his master. A student should be satisfied to
become like his teacher. A servant should be satisfied to
become like his master. If the head of the family is called
Beelzebul (the devil), then the other members of the family
will be called worse names!"

-- Matthew 10:24-25 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is our King, Lord, Master, and Savior. If some of the people of
his day did such horrible things to him, what makes us think we can
escape such hardship? But the worst that can happen to us is that we
end up like Jesus! So when the ridicule, scorn, rejection, and
persecution reign down we must remind ourselves that our destiny is the
same as that of Jesus. We are victors waiting for the parade to begin.
The key for us, don't get unsettled and keep the faith!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, I know you want to conform me to the image of your son. You
want his heart to be my heart. Please empower me to not only be
faithful, but also to be a witness to those around me. Thank you for
strengthening me by your Spirit to withstand the oppression of Satan
and his allies. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Proverbs 3:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 6, 2009

VERSE:
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
-- Proverbs 3:7
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Proverbs+3:7

THOUGHT:
Let's keep this simple. First, we need to admit that with the
complexities and perplexities of life that even the smartest of us
is not all that brilliant. Second, the LORD our God is awesome in
holiness, majesty, power, wisdom, and grace; he is far beyond us
and all we can truly grasp of him is the smallest of glimpses of
glory. Finally, let's stay away from anything that smacks of evil
knowing that evil infects and confuses us, as well as separates us
from God.

PRAYER:
All wise and gracious Heavenly Father, your wisdom is matchless,
your grace unfathomable, your holiness incomparable, and your love
beyond comprehension. Thank you for all of your many blessings and
gifts, but most of all I thank you for your gift of accessibility
to those of us who have no right in your presence but who are
invited here by your loving mercy. Please strengthen my will to
withstand temptation and deepen my wisdom to see evil for what it
is. Please empower me in my desire to stay far away from evil and
its influence. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
