=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Thoughtfulness, by Mike Barres

Don't you love it when people are thoughtful? They think about others,
and look for ways to be a blessing to them. Reminds me of what Paul
said to some of his closest Christian friends:

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in
lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself (Philippians
2:3 NKJV).

Recently I was the recipient of some thoughtfulness. It was such a
blessing to me. It was Father's Day. Someone left some banana nut bread
on my desk at the church. My grandma McGrath used to make me banana nut
bread. I not only love it, but it brings back pleasant memories of her.
Also, someone handed me a little box wrapped in white tissue paper with
a red ribbon. I opened it up and it was a box with four chocolate
samplers in it. They were gone before I got home -- don't tell my wife.
Then my daughter brought over an old homemade ice cream maker and made
me banana pudding ice cream. I love banana pudding and I like ice
cream, so this was a double treat.

It wasn't the food items that were the most important to me, even
though they were all really good. The thoughtfulness behind those
things warmed my heart.

Think of a way to be a blessing!

We can get so busy, and often we are just looking out for ourselves.
The world would be a much more enjoyable and pleasant place if we could
be more thoughtful of one another.

I was even thoughtful one time. I was eating at a restaurant for a
minister's meeting and as I was checking out I noticed something that I
thought my wife would like. It was a great big chocolate bar in the
shape of a 100 dollar bill. She is an admitted chocoholic. She has a
large coffee (or hot chocolate) mug that says "God brings no stress
that chocolate and prayer can't handle." When I gave it to her, she had
a big smile on her face. I think that the fact that I was thinking
about her, meant as much as all the chocolate (maybe).

Let's do what Paul encouraged Christians in Asia to do: let's be kind
and tenderhearted toward one another (Ephesians 4:32). Think of a way
to be a blessing to someone this week. They'll enjoy what you did, but
even more, they'll be blessed to know that you were thinking of them.

Morning & Evening -- Ephesians 2:19 and Genesis 1:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, July 10, 2008

MORNING:

"Fellow citizens with the saints."
-- Ephesians 2:19

What is meant by our being citizens in heaven? It means that we are
under heaven's government. Christ the king of heaven reigns in our
hearts; our daily prayer is, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in
heaven." The proclamations issued from the throne of glory are freely
received by us: the decrees of the Great King we cheerfully obey. Then
as citizens of the New Jerusalem, we share heaven's honours. The glory
which belongs to beatified saints belongs to us, for we are already
sons of God, already princes of the blood imperial; already we wear the
spotless robe of Jesus' righteousness; already we have angels for our
servitors, saints for our companions, Christ for our Brother, God for
our Father, and a crown of immortality for our reward. We share the
honours of citizenship, for we have come to the general assembly and
Church of the first-born whose names are written in heaven. As
citizens, we have common rights to all the property of heaven. Ours are
its gates of pearl and walls of chrysolite; ours the azure light of the
city that needs no candle nor light of the sun; ours the river of the
water of life, and the twelve manner of fruits which grow on the trees
planted on the banks thereof; there is nought in heaven that belongeth
not to us. "Things present, or things to come," all are ours. Also as
citizens of heaven we enjoy its delights. Do they there rejoice over
sinners that repent-prodigals that have returned? So do we. Do they
chant the glories of triumphant grace? We do the same. Do they cast
their crowns at Jesus' feet? Such honours as we have we cast there too.
Are they charmed with his smile? It is not less sweet to us who dwell
below. Do they look forward, waiting for his second advent? We also
look and long for his appearing. If, then, we are thus citizens of
heaven, let our walk and actions be consistent with our high dignity.

EVENING:

"And the evening and the morning were the first day."
-- Genesis 1:5

The evening was "darkness" and the morning was "light," and yet the two
together are called by the name that is given to the light alone! This
is somewhat remarkable, but it has an exact analogy in spiritual
experience. In every believer there is darkness and light, and yet he
is not to be named a sinner because there is sin in him, but he is to
be named a saint because he possesses some degree of holiness. This
will be a most comforting thought to those who are mourning their
infirmities, and who ask, "Can I be a child of God while there is so
much darkness in me?" Yes; for you, like the day, take not your name
from the evening, but from the morning; and you are spoken of in the
word of God as if you were even now perfectly holy as you will be soon.
You are called the child of light, though there is darkness in you
still. You are named after what is the predominating quality in the
sight of God, which will one day be the only principle remaining.
Observe that the evening comes first. Naturally we are darkness first
in order of time, and the gloom is often first in our mournful
apprehension, driving us to cry out in deep humiliation, "God be
merciful to me, a sinner." The place of the morning is second, it dawns
when grace overcomes nature. It is a blessed aphorism of John Bunyan,
"That which is last, lasts for ever." That which is first, yields in
due season to the last; but nothing comes after the last. So that
though you are naturally darkness, when once you become light in the
Lord, there is no evening to follow; "thy sun shall no more go down."
The first day in this life is an evening and a morning; but the second
day, when we shall be with God, for ever, shall be a day with no
evening, but one, sacred, high, eternal noon.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Spiritual Sluggard"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 10, 2008

THE SPIRITUAL SLUGGARD

Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to
good works; not forsaking the assembling of ourselves
together.

Hebrews 10:24-25

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=heb+10:24-25&sr=1

We are all capable of being spiritual sluggards; we do not want to
mix with the rough and tumble of life as it is, our one object is to
secure retirement. The note struck in Hebrews 10 is that of provoking
one another and of keeping together - both of which require
initiative, the initiative of Christ-realization, not of
self-realization. To live a remote, retired, secluded life is the
antipodes of spirituality as Jesus Christ taught it.

The test of our spirituality comes when we come up against injustice
and meanness and ingratitude and turmoil, all of which have the
tendency to make us spiritual sluggards. We want to use prayer and
Bible reading for the purpose of retirement. We utilize God for the
sake of getting peace and joy, that is, we do not want to realize
Jesus Christ, but only our enjoyment of Him. This is the first step
in the wrong direction. All these things are effects and we try to
make them causes.

"I think it meet," said Peter, ". . . to stir you up by putting you
in remembrance." It is a most disturbing thing to be smitten in the
ribs by some provoker of God, by someone who is full of spiritual
activity. Active work and spiritual activity are not the same thing.
Active work may be the counterfeit of spiritual activity. The danger
of spiritual sluggishness is that we do not wish to be stirred up,
all we want to hear about is spiritual retirement. Jesus Christ never
encourages the idea of retirement - "Go tell My brethren . ."

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Thumper's Advice

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Thumper's Advice
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
As Samuel grew up, the Lord was with him, and everything Samuel said was wise and helpful. 1 Samuel 3:19 NCV

Lord, help me today to be like Samuel!

Do you ever wish you could grab back something you said? You didn't mean it quite the way it came out at the time. You meant to say .....

well...you get the idea.

I'll never forget the time I told someone I was still praying for their mother only to hear them tell me she had been dead for over a year. Or the time I criticized the writer of a local column to someone else, not knowing that that person was their favorite nephew. Or when I asked two people to join me in a project, set up a special luncheon with the three of us, and didn't find out until I got there that the two of them do not speak to each other because of a past business association.

Oh, if I could just hold my tongue at times! Do you sometimes suffer from "foot-in-mouth" disease?

Wouldn't it be great to be l ike Samuel? Everything we said would be wise and helpful. Throughout our day, we would be a blessing to everyone we encountered. No embarrassing mistakes; no hurt feelings. Only positive, encouraging words to build each other up! Wasn't it Thumper's mom (from Bambi) who said, "If you can't saying something good...."

Isn't that what living the Christian life is all about? Isn't that the life we should strive to live?

Today, let's be like Samuel! Let every thought and word that comes out of our mouth be wise and helpful!

And, let's watch to see what a difference it makes in the lives of those around us!

Praying with Paul : "Sowing Seeds"

SOWING SEEDS

Galatians 6:6-10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+6:6-10

Dear Father, holy unscornable God,

Don't let me be deceived, my God, for I know that no one can mock
you with impunity. For whatever a person sows that is what the
person will reap. Those who sow to the flesh will from the flesh
reap corruption, but those who sow to the Spirit will reap eternal
life.

I want to reap eternal life, Father. Help me always to sow to the
Spirit!

Help me never to tire of doing good, for in your own due season I
will reap. Let me never lose heart, but, as I have opportunity, may
I do good to all people, especially to my brothers and sisters in
the household of faith.

In the name of Jesus I ask all this and that you will give me a
Spirit-filled life resulting in eternal victory! Amen.

Please Bless Them

People brought their small children to Jesus, so that Jesus
could touch them. But the followers told the people to stop
bringing their children to Jesus.

-- Mark 10:13 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
We can never seem to find enough time to do the things we need to do.
So who gets left out in the "busy-ness" of life? Children tend to be
forgotten, neglected, ignored, put off, or left out when schedules get
crunched -- and this is true even in our child-dominated cultures. Even
when children are a key part of adult schedules, this time is often
centered on their performing or competing against other children. We
take such little amounts of time to just be with children and let them
just be with us -- nothing to do, to win, or to perform, just be with
us. This reality is nothing new. Children often have been left out,
pushed to the periphery of life, or simply neglected. Jesus had many
important things to do. The disciples just didn't realize children
should be viewed as very important. Jesus did. Now so should we!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father in heaven, thank you. Thank you for the gift of children.
Thank you for the gift of future. Thank you for the gift of wild-eyed
wonder. Help me to show the children around me that they are special
and important -- not only to me, but also to you.

Today's Verse : Revelation 7:10

\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 10, 2008

VERSE:
And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our
God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."
-- Revelation 7:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Revelation+7:10

THOUGHT:
From the voices of those who know, the message is clear! God
reigns and with his rule comes salvation. This is because of the
Lamb who was willing to be slain, but who triumphed over death.
Because of the Lamb's work and faithfulness, we can be assured of
heaven.

PRAYER:
Loving Father and Sovereign God, thank you for providing
salvation by extending your grace to me in Jesus. Thank you, Jesus,
for offering yourself to be the Lamb sacrificed for my sins. I look
forward to heaven and seeing you face to face and praising you with
the angels, the martyrs, the elders, and other faithful Christians
before the throne. To you, O God, belongs all praise, honor, glory,
and thanks, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
