Do not be discouraged at your faults; bear with yourself in
correcting them, as you would with your neighbor. Lay aside this
ardor of mind, which exhausts your body, and leads you to commit
errors. Accustom yourself gradually to carry prayer into all
your daily occupations. Speak, move, work, in peace, as if you
were in prayer, as indeed you ought to be.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Becoming a Citizen, by Tim Archer

A friend of mine recently became a citizen of the United States. After
living in this country for a number of years, she decided to become a
citizen. She filled out the necessary forms, took the tests, made the
pledge of loyalty to this country and, of course, paid the required
fees. It's quite a process.

I did the same thing in a much simpler way: I was born a citizen. No
forms (at least not filled out by me!), no tests, no pledge, no fees.
All I did was be born in the right place. My children did me one
better. Not only were they born citizens of the United States, they
were also born Argentine citizens. Two kids, four passports.

They're not the only ones with dual citizenship, however. Even though I
don't have the passport to prove it, I am also a citizen under another
jurisdiction. I'm a citizen of God's kingdom. I'm not a naturalized
citizen; I was born into that kingdom. In fact, there are no
naturalized citizens in God's kingdom.

How do you become a citizen of God's kingdom?

During Jesus' public ministry, a man named Nicodemus came to see him.
While talking with Nicodemus, Jesus told him, "I tell you the truth, no
one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the
Spirit" (John 3:5). It takes a second birth to become a citizen of
God's kingdom, a birth involving water and the Spirit. The apostle Paul
talked about this new birth when he wrote: "We were therefore buried
with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was
raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a
new life" (Romans 6:4). When a believer in Jesus is baptized, he is
buried under the water and comes out with a new life. It's a new birth.
In writing to Titus, Paul called this act "the washing of rebirth and
renewal by the Holy Spirit" (Titus 3:5). Rebirth... new life... born
again... it's all the same concept.

Years ago I was born into this world, becoming a U.S. citizen. Almost
13 years later, I was born a second time, when I was baptized, becoming
a citizen of God's kingdom. Despite my lack of a passport, my second
citizenship is every bit as real as my first one and much more
important. Long after all passports have turned to dust, I'll still
hold my heavenly citizenship.

If you want to become a citizen of God's kingdom, there are no tests to
take, no forms to complete, no money to pay. There are no naturalized
citizens in God's kingdom. The only way to enter is to be born again,
born of water and the Spirit. If you'd like to know more about this new
birth, write to me at tim@hopeforlife.org or leave a comment on our
blog at hopeforlife.org.

Are you presently experiencing a new life? God's word says, "if anyone
is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has
come!"

This new life is a free gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ. If
you want to know more about this life that only Jesus can give you,
sign up for one of our Bible courses. Wherever you are in life,
whatever you've done, you can begin again.

You may also contact us at info@hopeforlife.org if you have questions
about becoming a new creation.

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 40:9 and Genesis 8:9

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

MORNING:

"Get thee up into the high mountain."
-- Isaiah 40:9

Our knowledge of Christ is somewhat like climbing one of our Welsh
mountains. When you are at the base you see but little: the mountain
itself appears to be but one-half as high as it really is. Confined in
a little valley, you discover scarcely anything but the rippling brooks
as they descend into the stream at the foot of the mountain. Climb the
first rising knoll, and the valley lengthens and widens beneath your
feet. Go higher, and you see the country for four or five miles round,
and you are delighted with the widening prospect. Mount still, and the
scene enlarges; till at last, when you are on the summit, and look
east, west, north, and south, you see almost all England lying before
you. Yonder is a forest in some distant county, perhaps two hundred
miles away, and here the sea, and there a shining river and the smoking
chimneys of a manufacturing town, or the masts of the ships in a busy
port. All these things please and delight you, and you say, "I could
not have imagined that so much could be seen at this elevation." Now,
the Christian life is of the same order. When we first believe in
Christ we see but little of him. The higher we climb the more we
discover of his beauties. But who has ever gained the summit? Who has
known all the heights and depths of the love of Christ which passes
knowledge? Paul, when grown old, sitting grey-haired, shivering in a
dungeon in Rome, could say with greater emphasis than we can, "I know
whom I have believed," for each experience had been like the climbing
of a hill, each trial had been like ascending another summit, and his
death seemed like gaining the top of the mountain, from which he could
see the whole of the faithfulness and the love of him to whom he had
committed his soul. Get thee up, dear friend, into the high mountain.

EVENING:

"The dove found no rest for the sole of her foot."
-- Genesis 8:9

Reader, can you find rest apart from the ark, Christ Jesus? Then be
assured that your religion is vain. Are you satisfied with anything
short of a conscious knowledge of your union and interest in Christ?
Then woe unto you. If you profess to be a Christian, yet find full
satisfaction in worldly pleasures and pursuits, your profession is
false. If your soul can stretch herself at rest, and find the bed long
enough, and the coverlet broad enough to cover her in the chambers of
sin, then you are a hypocrite, and far enough from any right thoughts
of Christ or perception of his preciousness. But if, on the other hand,
you feel that if you could indulge in sin without punishment, yet it
would be a punishment of itself; and that if you could have the whole
world, and abide in it for ever, it would be quite enough misery not to
be parted from it; for your God-your God-is what your soul craves
after; then be of good courage, thou art a child of God. With all thy
sins and imperfections, take this to thy comfort: if thy soul has no
rest in sin, thou are not as the sinner is! If thou art still crying
after and craving after something better, Christ has not forgotten
thee, for thou hast not quite forgotten him. The believer cannot do
without his Lord; words are inadequate to express his thoughts of him.
We cannot live on the sands of the wilderness, we want the manna which
drops from on high; our skin bottles of creature confidence cannot
yield us a drop of moisture, but we drink of the rock which follows us,
and that rock is Christ. When you feed on him your soul can sing, "He
hath satisfied my mouth with good things, so that my youth is renewed
like the eagle's," but if you have him not, your bursting wine vat and
well-filled barn can give you no sort of satisfaction: rather lament
over them in the words of wisdom, "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity!"

My Utmost For His Highest : "Receiving One's Self In The Fires Of Sorrow"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 25, 2008

RECEIVING ONE'S SELF IN THE FIRES OF SORROW

What shall I say? Father, save me, from this hour? But
for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify
Thy name.

John 12:27-29

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+12:27-29&sr=1

My attitude as a saint to sorrow and difficulty is not to ask that
they may be prevented, but to ask that I may preserve the self God
created me to be through every fire of sorrow. Our Lord received
Himself in the fire of sorrow, He was saved not from the hour, but
out of the hour.

We say that there ought to be no sorrow, but there is sorrow, and we
have to receive ourselves in its fires. If we try and evade sorrow,
refuse to lay our account with it, we are foolish. Sorrow is one of
the biggest facts in life; it is no use saying sorrow ought not to
be. Sin and sorrow and suffering are, and it is not for us to say
that God has made a mistake in allowing them.

Sorrow burns up a great amount of shallowness, but it does not always
make a man better. Suffering either gives me my self or it destroys
my self. You cannot receive your self in success, you lose your head;
you cannot receive your self in monotony, you grouse. The way to find
yourself is in the fires of sorrow. Why it should be so is another
matter, but that it is so is true in the Scriptures and in human
experience. You always know the man who has been through the fires of
sorrow and received himself, you are certain you can go to him in
trouble and find that he has ample leisure for you. If a man has not
been through the fires of sorrow, he is apt to be contemptuous, he
has no time for you. If you receive yourself in the fires of sorrow,
God will make you nourishment for other people.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Words ot Comfort 3

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Words ot Comfort 3
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV

There are more in these two verses than I can write about in one devotional, but let me try by breaking it into phrases.

May the God of peace - The God of Hebrews is writing with a powerful word may. This is like the word hope we see referring to God. It is a definitive word. In other words, if you are a Christian, God wants to do these things for you. He wants to give you His peace. He is the God of peace. He owns it, and it is His to give.

who through the blood of the eternal covenant - When Jesus shed His blood on the Cross, it was permanent. All other sacrifices were used up once the person sinned again. Jesus shed His blood once, and God said it was accepted for eternal significance!

brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus - Our Savior is alive! Look in the tombs of other gods and youll find bones or bone fragments. Our Saviors tomb is empty...still today! You and I have victory, because we have a risen Savior!

that great Shepherd of the sheep - God doesnt save us and leave us. Jesus came, lived a sinless life, experienced the same temptations and trials we do, so that He could help us in our time of need. Hes been where we are, so that He can better guide His sheep!

equip you with everything good for doing His will - When Jesus went to be with the Father, He left behind the promised Holy Spirit. If you are a Christian, then you have Holy Spirit power available to you today! The same power that parted the sea and helped Peter walk on water, is living in you now! As you surrender your will to Him more and more each day, you will begin to experie nce that power working in you.

and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him - Simply put: God is only going to bless His will in your life. The key is to find out His will through daily surrender! It pleases God to do His will.

through Jesus Christ - Jesus is our source of power. Apart from Him, we can do nothing!

to whom be glory for ever and ever - Everything God does is for His glory! Everything! Find out how He can receive the glory before you ask Him in prayer!

Amen - So be it!

Praying with Paul : "Paul's Call"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

PAUL'S CALL

Galatians 1:16-2:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+1:16-2:10

Dear Father,

Thank you for calling Saul of Tarsus to be your apostle to the
non-Jews, and for making him known to us with his new name, Paul.
Thank you for revealing to him that righteousness comes by your
grace through faith without works of law and that we who are not
Jews can become members of the household of faith without assuming
the yoke of the law.

Thank you for the integrity and courage Paul showed in defending
this position in the early church. Thank you for his desire for
unity with those who were apostles before him. Thank you also that
he did not give in to those who wanted to limit the freedom of
believers.

Thank you that Peter, James, John, and the other apostles gave
Paul and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that each should
pursue his appointed missions - Paul and Barnabas to non-Jews, the
others to the Jews. Thank you that they agreed to remember and help
the poor.

In the name of Jesus I give thanks. Amen.

Not Against Us!

"The person that is not against us is with us."

-- Mark 9:40 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Christianity faces enough opposition in the world without its own
proponents fighting and devouring each other because they fancy each
other as enemies. Jesus' words here are powerfully universal and clear
-- notice the use of the words "the person (or "anyone" in other
translations) is general. If people don't oppose us, they aren't the
enemy! In fact, Jesus says even more than that: they are working to
benefit the cause of Jesus and his followers.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, I pray that those of us who seek to honor you will quit
treating each other as enemies. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Matthew 6:25

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 25, 2008

VERSE:
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you
will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not
life more important than food, and the body more important than
clothes?"
-- Matthew 6:25

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Matthew+6:25

THOUGHT:
God gives beauty to the flowers and life to grass. In the grand
scheme of things, these are transitory and insignificant. He sent
his Son from Heaven to save us. So, he most definitely is going to
give us what we need until we go home to live with him!

PRAYER:
Loving Father and Almighty God, forgive my distraction over
temporal things. I do believe that you have given me everything I
need in Jesus and in the gracious abundance of your blessings. In
the precious name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
