VERSE:
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are
crushed in spirit.
-- Psalm 34:18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+34:18

THOUGHT:
While many of us are richly blessed spiritually and physically,
many of God's people face hardship and difficulty. You may be one
of those in difficult circumstances. Please remember that God has
not abandoned you. Jesus is the great reminder that God cares and
involves himself with the broken, forgotten, and downtrodden.
Please know as well that tens of thousands are praying for you
today in the prayer that follows.

PRAYER:
O God, please be with those whose lives are difficult and filled
with pain and sadness. Please minister in personal and mighty ways
to every believer with a crushed spirit. Dear Father, please
rekindle the hope of every discouraged Christian. Empower them as
they hold on to their faith. Pour out your Spirit with power,
strengthening each weary and burdened heart. Help each one of your
children hold onto his or her faith, finding a renewed sense of
hope in your presence. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Falling Leaves, by Mike Barres

I am looking out of my window this morning watching leaves fall to the
ground. It is raining leaves. These leaves have died. Some see this
process as a useless nuisance. People often go through a lot of work
and trouble to rake up these leaves, and then bag them up, burn them,
or discard them. These falling leaves, however, have a natural
function. They are a natural fertilizer -- that's why they end up in
mulch piles. We may be interrupting God's process of recycling because
of our own desire for a clean, neat looking, leaf-free lawn. I fear we
often look at death in a similar way.

We recently watched the movie "End of the Spear" at our church. The
story is about the five missionaries who were killed in Ecuador years
ago trying to share the Gospel of Jesus with native tribesmen. At the
time, their deaths could have been seen as a senseless waste of human
life. The rest of the story, however, proved to be an amazing example
of God using their deaths for His purposes.

The natives who killed the missionaries said that they saw angelic
beings at the time of their deaths. Later on, some of the women related
to the men who were killed, went back to try to reach the natives. This
courageous and loving act yielded much fruit for the Kingdom of God.
After many years, many of the natives have become Christians. The Bible
has been translated into their language. And because of the selfless
sacrifice of the slain missionaries, their loved ones were able to
communicate the Gospel in a way that these tribesmen could understand.
Another result was that a cycle of violence among themselves, the
killing with spears, was stopped.

There is a time for leaves to fall.

We usually look at death as something to be avoided at all costs. This
is natural and normal. Death is part of our fallen world and is an
enemy Jesus will ultimately destroy (1 Corinthians 15:26). There are
times, however, that God is doing something powerful through death that
we don't understand. The way Stephen died, being stoned to death, was a
powerful witness to Saul (Acts 7:57-60; 1 Timothy 1:12-17). I have seen
Christians die in such a way that brought God a great deal of glory.
These individuals showed great courage and love to those around them.
Some have even, like Stephen, been blessed with a glimpse of heaven and
spoken about it as they have gone to be with the Lord.

There are seasons to our year and a time for leaves to fall. There is
also a time for death. As the wise man put it long ago:

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted ...
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 NKJV).

Morning & Evening -- Luke 4:18 and Romans 9:15

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, November 25, 2007

MORNING:

"To preach deliverance to the captives."
-- Luke 4:18

None but Jesus can give deliverance to captives. Real liberty cometh
from him only. It is a liberty righteously bestowed; for the Son, who
is Heir of all things, has a right to make men free. The saints honour
the justice of God, which now secures their salvation. It is a liberty
which has been dearly purchased. Christ speaks it by his power, but he
bought it by his blood. He makes thee free, but it is by his own bonds.
Thou goest clear, because he bare thy burden for thee: thou art set at
liberty, because he has suffered in thy stead. But, though dearly
purchased, he freely gives it. Jesus asks nothing of us as a
preparation for this liberty. He finds us sitting in sackcloth and
ashes, and bids us put on the beautiful array of freedom; he saves us
just as we are, and all without our help or merit. When Jesus sets
free, the liberty is perpetually entailed; no chains can bind again.
Let the Master say to me, "Captive, I have delivered thee," and it is
done for ever. Satan may plot to enslave us, but if the Lord be on our
side, whom shall we fear? The world, with its temptations, may seek to
ensnare us, but mightier is he who is for us than all they who be
against us. The machinations of our own deceitful hearts may harass and
annoy us, but he who hath begun the good work in us will carry it on
and perfect it to the end. The foes of God and the enemies of man may
gather their hosts together, and come with concentrated fury against
us, but if God acquitteth, who is he that condemneth? Not more free is
the eagle which mounts to his rocky eyrie, and afterwards outsoars the
clouds, than the soul which Christ hath delivered. If we are no more
under the law, but free from its curse, let our liberty be practically
exhibited in our serving God with gratitude and delight. "I am thy
servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds."
"Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?"

EVENING:

"For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have
mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have
compassion."
-- Romans 9:15

In these words the Lord in the plainest manner claims the right to give
or to withhold his mercy according to his own sovereign will. As the
prerogative of life and death is vested in the monarch, so the Judge of
all the earth has a right to spare or condemn the guilty, as may seem
best in his sight. Men by their sins have forfeited all claim upon God;
they deserve to perish for their sins-and if they all do so, they have
no ground for complaint. If the Lord steps in to save any, he may do so
if the ends of justice are not thwarted; but if he judges it best to
leave the condemned to suffer the righteous sentence, none may arraign
him at their bar. Foolish and impudent are all those discourses about
the rights of men to be all placed on the same footing; ignorant, if
not worse, are those contentions against discriminating grace, which
are but the rebellions of proud human nature against the crown and
sceptre of Jehovah. When we are brought to see our own utter ruin and
ill desert, and the justice of the divine verdict against sin, we no
longer cavil at the truth that the Lord is not bound to save us; we do
not murmur if he chooses to save others, as though he were doing us an
injury, but feel that if he deigns to look upon us, it will be his own
free act of undeserved goodness, for which we shall for ever bless his
name.

How shall those who are the subjects of divine election sufficiently
adore the grace of God? They have no room for boasting, for sovereignty
most effectually excludes it. The Lord's will alone is glorified, and
the very notion of human merit is cast out to everlasting contempt.
There is no more humbling doctrine in Scripture than that of election,
none more promotive of gratitude, and, consequently, none more
sanctifying. Believers should not be afraid of it, but adoringly
rejoice in it.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Secret Of Spiritual Coherence"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 25, 2007

THE SECRET OF SPIRITUAL COHERENCE

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of
our Lord Jesus Christ."

Galatians 6:14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ga+6:14&sr=1

When a man is first born again, he becomes incoherent, there is an
amount of unrelated emotion about him, unrelated phases of external
things. In the apostle Paul there was a strong steady coherence
underneath, consequently he could let his external life change as it
liked and it did not distress him because he was rooted and grounded
in God. Most of us are not spiritually coherent because we are more
concerned about being coherent externally. Paul lived in the
basement; the coherent critics live in the upper storey of the
external statement of things, and the two do not begin to touch each
other. Paul's consistency was down in the fundamentals. The great
basis of his coherence was the agony of God in the Redemption of the
world, viz., the Cross of Jesus Christ.

Re-state to yourself what you believe, then do away with as much of
it as possible, and get back to the bedrock of the Cross of Christ.
In external history the Cross is an infinitesimal thing; from the
Bible point of view it is of more importance than all the empires of
the world. If we get away from brooding on the tragedy of God upon
the Cross in our preaching, it produces nothing. It does not convey
the energy of God to man; it may be interesting but it has no power.
But preach the Cross, and the energy of God is let loose. "It pleased
God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe." "We
preach Christ crucified."

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

TO KNOW CHRIST

Philippians 3:10-14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+3:10-14

Father,

I want to do this because I want to know Christ and the power of
his resurrection, and be allowed even to share in his sufferings,
becoming like him in his death, that if possible I may attain the
resurrection from the dead.

Dear Father, I know that I have not made this my own yet, but one
thing let me do: Let me forget what lies behind and strain forward
to what lies ahead. Help me to keep pressing forward toward the
goal so that I may win the prize according to your will in Christ
Jesus, my Lord.

In his name of our Lord Jesus I ask these things and pray that you
will grant us a spirit of perseverance unto eternal life. Amen.

Don't Be Mislead

Jesus said, "Be careful! Don't be fooled. Many people will
come using my name. They will say, 'I am {the Christ}' and,
'The right time has come!' But don't follow them. When you
hear about wars and riots, don't be afraid. These things must
happen first. Then the end will come later." Then Jesus said
to them, "Nations will fight against other nations. Kingdoms
will fight against other kingdoms. There will be great
earthquakes, sicknesses, and other bad things in many places.
In some places there will be no food for the people to eat.
Terrible things will happen, and amazing things will come
from heaven to warn people.

-- Luke 21:8-11 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Misunderstanding about Jesus' return has been a problem for many
people. Many have been misled by signs they think they see in our
world. Jesus, however, warns that many things will happen before his
return -- wars, rebellions, earthquakes, famines, epidemics, and
heavenly signs. The key thing in each of these events is to not panic.
God is in control and he will have Jesus come at the proper time. We
just need to be prepared.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, with so many disturbing things going on in our world today,
please still the struggles in my spirit and allow me to remain calm and
faithful during troubling times. I know that I belong to you and I also
know that when Jesus returns that I will go to be with you ... no
matter when that time may come. In Jesus' name. Amen.
