Today's Verse : Daniel 12:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

December 1, 2007

VERSE:
Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the
heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars
for ever and ever.
-- Daniel 12:3

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Daniel+12:3

THOUGHT:
God promised a sifting between the righteous and unrighteous.
Jesus repeated the same assurance in his parables. For God's
people, however, these are not fearful warnings. Instead, these are
words of promise. Those who have wisely honored and lived for God
will shine brilliantly for all to see. Those who have led others to
live righteously will twinkle like stars in their Father's eyes!

PRAYER:
Loving God, thank you for saving me by your grace and kindness.
At the same time, Father, I get frustrated when I see the wicked
prosper while your loyal servants are maligned and ridiculed for
their character. I'm thankful that you will judge us based on your
incredible grace! At the same time, I'm also thankful you will
bring justice for those who love you and who are enduring hardship,
danger, and ridicule because of their faith. Please be with them,
wherever they may be, and give them strength to persevere until
that day comes. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Pray 5

then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Acts 4:10-11 NIV

We have been talking about prayer this week. Today I want to end with a look at the person of prayer. The reason we can pray to God, the Father, the maker of heaven and earth, is because of the Son, Jesus Christ. The reason prayer is ever answered is because of what Jesus did for us on the Cross. Without Jesus, there is no prayer.

We live in a culture today that is almost anti-Jesus. Its okay to pray to God; in fact, its almost admirable, but when we enter the name of Jesus in our prayers, people start to scramble for cover. Though this has not personally happened to me, I know several pastors who have been asked not to pray in public if they close their prayers "In Jesus Name". Thankfully, of the ones I know, they have rightly refused such a request. Jesus told us that His name would bring division among us. It isn't a matter of tolerance, it is a matter of importance. Perhaps when we realize that our prayers are of no use without Jesus we will begin to be less afraid to speak His name.

I have a firm conviction that the prayers of a Christian should be distinguishable from the prayers of those who do not know Christ. Think about your prayers? Would they be deemed appropriate at the opening of a new college building or at a session of your local government? If the name of Jesus would keep your prayers out, you are probably praying an effective prayer. I have a sense that God loves to hear His Son's name spoken. (Don't you like to hear your children's name mentioned?) Let's start using the name of Jesus frequently in our prayers!

Oh, Lord, teach us to pray...In Jesus Name, Amen!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Chosen by God!, by Paul Faulkner

Some things just kind of stick in your mind, like when a little boy
said, "I've learned that it makes me sad when I'm the last one chosen
for the team." Ouch! That hurts to hear, doesn't it! Has anything like
that ever happened to you?

I don't remember being picked last, but I remember lots of times when I
thought I was going to be. It felt like I was being kicked in the
stomach. The last one chosen -- it feels like such a public disgrace.
It hurts even to talk about it. Nearly all of us know this feeling at
some stage of our life -- relationships, job hirings, friendships, or
games.

I'm still the one he chooses every time!

What I love about Jesus is that it doesn't matter if I'm poor or not
smart or clumsy or perceived as ugly. It doesn't matter to him if I'm
rich or poor, short or tall, fat or skinny, bald or with lots of hair.
No matter what my outside circumstances, I'm still the one he chooses
every time!

Jesus told his followers, "You did not choose me, but I chose you and
appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit -- fruit that will
last!" (John 15:16 TNIV). The apostle Paul said it this way,
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and
patience" (Colossians 3:12).

Chosen by God. What good news! Now pass it on to someone else who needs
to experience it!

---------

Morning & Evening -- 2 Chronicles 25:9 and Revelation 12:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 30, 2007

MORNING:

"And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for
the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?
And the man of God answered, The Lord is able to give thee
much more than this."
-- 2 Chronicles 25:9

A very important question this seemed to be to the king of Judah, and
possibly it is of even more weight with the tried and tempted O
Christian. To lose money is at no times pleasant, and when principle
involves it, the flesh is not always ready to make the sacrifice. "Why
lose that which may be so usefully employed? May not the truth itself
be bought too dear? What shall we do without it? Remember the children,
and our small income!" All these things and a thousand more would tempt
the Christian to put forth his hand to unrighteous gain, or stay
himself from carrying out his conscientious convictions, when they
involve serious loss. All men cannot view these matters in the light of
faith; and even with the followers of Jesus, the doctrine of "we must
live" has quite sufficient weight.

The Lord is able to give thee much more than this is a very
satisfactory answer to the anxious question. Our Father holds the
purse-strings, and what we lose for his sake he can repay a
thousand-fold. It is ours to obey his will, and we may rest assured
that he will provide for us. The Lord will be no man's debtor at the
last. Saints know that a grain of heart's-ease is of more value than a
ton of gold. He who wraps a threadbare coat about a good conscience has
gained a spiritual wealth far more desirable than any he has lost.
God's smile and a dungeon are enough for a true heart; his frown and a
palace would be hell to a gracious spirit. Let the worst come to the
worst, let all the talents go, we have not lost our treasure, for that
is above, where Christ sitteth at the right hand of God. Meanwhile,
even now, the Lord maketh the meek to inherit the earth, and no good
thing doth he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

EVENING:

"Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the
dragon fought and his angels."
-- Revelation 12:7

War always will rage between the two great sovereignties until one or
other be crushed. Peace between good and evil is an impossibility; the
very pretence of it would, in fact, be the triumph of the powers of
darkness. Michael will always fight; his holy soul is vexed with sin,
and will not endure it. Jesus will always be the dragon's foe, and that
not in a quiet sense, but actively, vigorously, with full determination
to exterminate evil. All his servants, whether angels in heaven or
messengers on earth, will and must fight; they are born to be
warriors-at the cross they enter into covenant never to make truce with
evil; they are a warlike company, firm in defence and fierce in attack.
The duty of every soldier in the army of the Lord is daily, with all
his heart, and soul, and strength, to fight against the dragon.

The dragon and his angels will not decline the affray; they are
incessant in their onslaughts, sparing no weapon, fair or foul. We are
foolish to expect to serve God without opposition: the more zealous we
are, the more sure are we to be assailed by the myrmidons of hell. The
church may become slothful, but not so her great antagonist; his
restless spirit never suffers the war to pause; he hates the woman's
seed, and would fain devour the church if he could. The servants of
Satan partake much of the old dragon's energy, and are usually an
active race. War rages all around, and to dream of peace is dangerous
and futile.

Glory be to God, we know the end of the war. The great dragon shall be
cast out and for ever destroyed, while Jesus and they who are with him
shall receive the crown. Let us sharpen our swords to-night, and pray
the Holy Spirit to nerve our arms for the conflict. Never battle so
important, never crown so glorious. Every man to his post, ye warriors
of the cross, and may the Lord tread Satan under your feet shortly!

My Utmost For His Highest : "By The Grace Of God I Am What I Am"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 30, 2007

BY THE GRACE OF GOD I AM WHAT I AM

His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1co+15:10&sr=1

The way we continually talk about our own inability is an insult to
the Creator. The deploring of our own incompetence is a slander
against God for having overlooked us. Get into the habit of examining
in the sight of God the things that sound humble before men, and you
will be amazed at how staggeringly impertinent they are. "Oh, I
shouldn't like to say I am sanctified; I'm not a saint." Say that
before God; and it means - "No, Lord, it is impossible for You to
save and sanctify me; there are chances I have not had; so many
imperfections in my brain and body; no, Lord, it isn't possible."
That may sound wonderfully humble before men, but before God it is an
attitude of defiance.

Again, the things that sound humble before God 'may sound the
opposite before men. To say Thank God, I know I am saved and
sanctified is in the sight of God the acme of humility, it means you
have so completely abandoned yourself to God that you know He is
true. Never bother your head as to whether what you say sounds humble
before men or not, but always be humble before God, and let Him be
all in all.

There is only one relationship that matters, and that is your
personal relationship to a personal Redeemer and Lord. Let everything
else go, but maintain that at all costs, and God will fulfil His
purpose through your life. One individual life may be of priceless
value to God's purposes, and yours may be that life.

FOCUSED ON GOODNESS

Philippians 4:8-9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+4:8-9

Dear Father, praiseworthy God,

Help me set my mind only on things that are true, that are noble,
right, pure and lovely, things that are worthy of admiration.

If there is anything excellent or praiseworthy, O God, let me
think only about such things!

Whatever I have learned or received or heard through your apostles
and your word, help me to put into practice.

O God of peace, be with me in everything! I believe you will, for
you have promised it.

I lovingly pray for your blessings and abiding presence in the
name of Jesus. Amen.

Predictable Pattern, Eager Listeners

During the day, Jesus taught the people in the temple area.
At night he went out of the city and stayed all night on the
Mount of Olives. Every morning all the people got up early to
go listen to Jesus at the temple.

-- Luke 21:37-38 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus found eager listeners. His habit during this last week in
Jerusalem was predictable. If folks wanted to find him, they could. The
Mount of Olives was his place of rest and prayer. The Temple was his
location during the day. The people could find him, and they did. They
drew near to listen to him. Little did they know they were hearing his
last words. But, we know they were his last words before his fretful
hours with the disciples and his trip to the Cross. So let's draw near
and listen carefully and ask God to help us hear what was on Jesus'
heart. Let us give thanks that God has chosen to reveal himself to us
in such a human way.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, how can I thank you for letting me overhear the last words of
Jesus as he speaks to the crowds in the Temple, goes to the Mount of
Olives, and ultimately goes to the Cross? Help me to not only hear his
words, but also to be touched and changed by them. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.
