Mustard Seed Thoughts: Look Up Two

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Look Up Two
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
And He took him outside and said, "Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be." Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:5-6 NASU

God promised Abraham a son. God promised that even in Abraham and Sarahs old age that would bear a child, have grandchildren, and many, many descendents. It didnt seem possible. They were too old; too weak; too far removed from the parenting years. It was a promise that didnt make sense; even from the God who created life. Abraham couldnt grasp Gods bigger picture because his vision was blurred by his circumstances.

God takes him outside and says Look Up. God shows Abraham the stars in the sky and assured Abraham that as numerous as the stars so would his descendents be. It was in this demonstration that Abraham put his whole and complete faith in the promises of God.

I dont know what you are going through. Maybe you want to trust that God can work things out; youve tried to place your faith in Him, but something keeps rocking your faith. The circumstances in your life seem to cloud any possibility that things could ever work for good. I want to encourage you; on the next clear night; to step outside your back door, tilt your head backwards, and look at the stars in the sky. Let the scene remind you of the limitless power and abundance of God.

Sometimes we have to force ourselves to look at the larger picture in order to trust God when the circumstances of our life are uncertain.

WJD! -- On Strange Turf -- Mark 5:1-2

On Strange Turf

Jesus and his followers went across the lake to the area
where the Gerasene people lived. When Jesus got out of the
boat, a man came to him from the caves where dead people are
buried. This man had an evil spirit {from the devil} living
inside of him.

-- Mark 5:1-2 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is taking his disciples to new places. This particular new place
was strange. The "strangeness" had to do with what they would
experience at this place. This includes an encounter with a
demon-possessed man. Adding to this strangeness is the place they
encounter him -- near a cemetery where he lived among the tombs. If we
watch the story carefully, the disciples appear to remain in the boat
during this whole encounter between Jesus and this man. They weren't
quite ready to take on this strange new world. Jesus is trying to teach
them that he will go with them and empower them to do quite
unbelievable things. The power of this experience will be one of those
indelible memories they will carry with them as they face horrible
challenges of their own -- challenges orchestrated by the dark lord of
demons. As the Lord leads us, he reminds us that we are a pilgrim
people -- always on the move toward God and away from the familiar and
safe. Yet as he leads us into new places, new experiences, and new
challenges, he also asks us to remember how he has been with us in the
past and to be assured that he has already conquered the dark lord we
so often fear.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Almighty God, my Abba Father, give me the courage and strength to
follow you wherever you lead me. I know that you have been at work to
prepare me, but help me, dear Lord, to move past preparation into a
time of fruitfulness. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : 2 Corinthians 3:18

\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 18, 2008

VERSE:
And we, who with unveiled faces all [contemplate and] reflect
the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with
ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the
Spirit.
-- 2 Corinthians 3:18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+3:18

THOUGHT:
"Transformed ... with ever-increasing glory." In other words,
it's an ongoing process, but with the continual help of the Spirit,
we're going to arrive at our goal -- to be like Jesus! The point is
not to give up on our journey. Let's keep looking to Jesus and keep
trusting that the Holy Spirit is doing God's work in us, making us
more and more like Jesus each day.

PRAYER:
Father, please forgive me for the times when I've let my faith
grow complacent and I've lost my focus on Jesus. Please bless me as
I try to be more intentional in my plans, especially my spiritual
maturity. Please make me more like Jesus each day. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.
