Today's Verse : Romans 5:9-10

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 22, 2009

VERSE:
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more
shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we
were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of
his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved
through his life!

-- Romans 5:9-10
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+5:9-10

THOUGHT:
Jesus did more than die for our sins; he lives as resurrected
Lord. So if God would empty heaven of his Son, let him die on the
cross, and then raise him from the dead to save us, just think what
God has in store for us now that he has saved us! When it comes to
Jesus' saving power and God's amazing grace, we haven't seen
anything, yet!

PRAYER:
Holy LORD, I look forward to the day that I get to see you and
experience your grace in all of its glory. Inspire courage in me
today, so that I can confidently face the challenges in my path and
live faithfully before you and before others. Father, I do believe
that the best of what Jesus wants to do in me lies ahead, so use me
to your glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Up All Night

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Up All Night
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
He will not let you stumble and fall; the one who watches over you will not sleep. Indeed, He who watches over Israel never tires and never sleeps. Psalm 121:3-4

While you slept last night, God was watching over you! Isn't that a comforting thought?

The God who made the Heavens and the Earth, the Creator of the stars, moon and planets, the One who hears each prayer is the same One who never sleeps, so that He can protectively watch over His children.

When the boys were little, bedtime at our house was an event. Wed tuck both boys in, pray for them and with them, often read a short story, or talk briefly about the events of the day. It was a special time the boys looked forward to. So did I!

Sometimes the schedule would get a little cramped towards the end of a night. With school early the next morning, it was important they get enough sleep, but our nighttime tradition couldnt be altered. One thing we learned was that our boys wa nted to go to bed before we did. They wanted plenty of time to fall asleep before we retired for the evening. I guess they felt safer if they knew we were still up.

I'm an adult now. My parents are no longer waiting up for me. I'm usually the last one to go to bed at my house, but it is a comforting thought to know my Heavenly Father is watching me throughout each night.

And, it is the strength I receive from my Father that allows me to give strength back to my family. Thank you, God, for watching over your children!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Just a Second, by Tim Archer

December 31, 2008 was a long day. It was one second longer than every
other day of the year. The International Earth Rotation and Reference
Systems Service determined that the earth's rotation is gradually
slowing, while the atomic clocks used to mark official time around the
world have maintained a constant time. The discrepancy between the
"official" time and time based on the earth's rotation had grown large
enough that regulators agreed to add one second to what is considered
official time. So if you felt more tired than usual on New Year's Day,
maybe it wasn't because you stayed up to bring in the New Year; maybe
that extra second was more than your body could handle.

In one of the poems that we have in the Bible, the writer talks about
the shortness of life, then says, "So teach us to number our days that
we may get a heart of wisdom" (Psalm 90:12). I don't think he's talking
about atomic clocks. I think he's reminding us that we need to
recognize that life here is finite; we build up seconds, minutes,
hours, days, etc., and come to feel that our time will never come to an
end. Yet we need to recognize that we are not immortal, that one day
our lives will be over. According to this psalm, which is attributed to
Moses, we won't be able to have a heart of wisdom until we recognize
our own mortality.

We need to count days as God counts them.

Earlier in the same poem, Moses writes: "For a thousand years in your
sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night"
(Psalm 90:4). And he also writes: "The years of our life are seventy,
or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and
trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away" (Psalm 90:10). That's
what he means about learning to number our days. Our lives are
typically 70 or 80 years, yet to God a thousand years is the same as
one day. Time means nothing to an eternal God.

That eternal God offers to share eternity with us. We can settle for 70
years, more or less. Or we can let God give us a life that has no end,
a life in which the days needn't be numbered because they are infinite.
Man can add a second to one day; God can add an eternity to every day.
If you'd like to share in this eternity, but don't know how, I'd like
to talk to you about it. Write to me at tim@hopeforlife.org or leave a
comment on our blog at www.hopeforlife.org. It will only take a second,
but can make an eternal difference.

Morning & Evening -- Romans 11:26 and Judges 15:18

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

MORNING:

"And so all Israel shall be saved."
-- Romans 11:26

Then Moses sang at the Red Sea, it was his joy to know that all Israel
were safe. Not a drop of spray fell from that solid wall until the last
of God's Israel had safely planted his foot on the other side the
flood. That done, immediately the floods dissolved into their proper
place again, but not till then. Part of that song was, "Thou in thy
mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed." In the last
time, when the elect shall sing the song of Moses, the servant of God,
and of the Lamb, it shall be the boast of Jesus, "Of all whom thou hast
given me, I have lost none." In heaven there shall not be a vacant
throne.

"For all the chosen race
Shall meet around the throne,
Shall bless the conduct of his grace,
And make his glories known."

As many as God hath chosen, as many as Christ hath redeemed, as many as
the Spirit hath called, as many as believe in Jesus, shall safely cross
the dividing sea. We are not all safely landed yet:

"Part of the host have crossed the flood,
And part are crossing now."

The vanguard of the army has already reached the shore. We are marching
through the depths; we are at this day following hard after our Leader
into the heart of the sea. Let us be of good cheer: the rear-guard
shall soon be where the vanguard already is; the last of the chosen
ones shall soon have crossed the sea, and then shall be heard the song
of triumph, when all are secure. But oh! if one were absent-oh! if one
of his chosen family should be cast away-it would make an everlasting
discord in the song of the redeemed, and cut the strings of the harps
of paradise, so that music could never be extorted from them.

EVENING:

"He was sore athirst, and called on the Lord, and said, thou
hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy
servant: and now shall I die for thirst?"
-- Judges 15:18

Samson was thirsty and ready to die. The difficulty was totally
different from any which the hero had met before. Merely to get thirst
assuaged is nothing like so great a matter as to be delivered from a
thousand Philistines! but when the thirst was upon him, Samson felt
that little present difficulty more weighty than the great past
difficulty out of which he had so specially been delivered. It is very
usual for God's people, when they have enjoyed a great deliverance, to
find a little trouble too much for them. Samson slays a thousand
Philistines, and piles them up in heaps, and then faints for a little
water! Jacob wrestles with God at Peniel, and overcomes Omnipotence
itself, and then goes "halting on his thigh!" Strange that there must
be a shrinking of the sinew whenever we win the day. As if the Lord
must teach us our littleness, our nothingness, in order to keep us
within bounds. Samson boasted right loudly when he said, "I have slain
a thousand men." His boastful throat soon grew hoarse with thirst, and
he betook himself to prayer. God has many ways of humbling his people.
Dear child of God, if after great mercy you are laid very low, your
case is not an unusual one. When David had mounted the throne of
Israel, he said, "I am this day weak, though anointed king." You must
expect to feel weakest when you are enjoying your greatest triumph. If
God has wrought for you great deliverances in the past, your present
difficulty is only like Samson's thirst, and the Lord will not let you
faint, nor suffer the daughter of the uncircumcised to triumph over
you. The road of sorrow is the road to heaven, but there are wells of
refreshing water all along the route. So, tried brother, cheer your
heart with Samson's words, and rest assured that God will deliver you
ere long.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Recall What God Remembers"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 21, 2009

RECALL WHAT GOD REMEMBERS

I remember ... the kindness of thy youth.

Jeremiah 2:2
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=jer+2:2&sr=1

Am I as spontaneously kind to God as I used to be, or am I only
expecting God to be kind to me? Am I full of the little things that
cheer His heart over me, or am I whimpering because things are going
hardly with me? There is no joy in the soul that has forgotten what
God prizes. It is a great thing to think that Jesus Christ has need
of me - "Give Me to drink." How much kindness have I shown Him this
past week? Have I been kind to His reputation in my life?

God is saying to His people - You are not in love with Me now, but I
remember the time when you were - "I remember...the love of thine
espousals." Am I as full of the extravagance of love to Jesus Christ
as I was in the beginning, when I went out of my way to prove my
devotion to Him? Does He find me recalling the time when I did not
care for anything but Himself? Am I there now, or have I become wise
over loving Him? Am I so in love with Him that I take no account of
where I go? or am I watching for the respect due to me; weighing how
much service I ought to give?

If, as I recall what God remembers about me, I find He is not what He
used to be to me, let it produce shame and humiliation, because that
shame will bring the godly sorrow that works repentance.

Praying with Paul : "My Need"

\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

MY NEED

Romans 5:6-11
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+5:6-11

Dear Father, gracious God,

Thank you, dear Father, that while we were helpless, Christ our
Savior died for the ungodly. You showed your love for us in that
while we were yet sinners Christ your Son died for us.

Since therefore we are justified by Christ's blood, much more
shall we be saved by him from your wrath! For if while we were
enemies we were reconciled to you by the death of your Son, much
more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life!

Let his life be lived in my life and the life of every one of your
people! Not only so, but I now find so much joy in you as my God,
through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received
our reconciliation.

Thank you for your free and wonderful gift! Thank you for being my
God!

By the authority of Christ and in his name I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Fire! -- Matthew 3:11-12

Fire!

"I baptize you with water to show that you changed your
hearts and lives. But there is a person coming later that is
greater than I am. I am not good enough to take off his shoes
for him. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with
fire. He will come ready to clean the grain. He will separate
the good grain from the straw. He will put the good part of
the grain into his barn. And he will burn the part that is
not good. He will burn it with a fire that cannot be
stopped."

-- Matthew 3:11-12 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
So much of the discussion of this passage focuses on whether fire means
judgment or purification. All sorts of interpretative clues are
examined. Scholarship is divided. So which do you think it is? My
answer is "Yes! He both judges and purifies." From this passage and its
parallels, I believe John the Baptist probably intended for us to hear
both points. We will be judged based on what we decide about Jesus.
When we choose to believe Jesus and trust in him, the Holy Spirit will
also cleanse us. Jesus calls us to purity, but more than that, he
cleanses and purifies us through and through as he pours out his Spirit
upon us. (Cf. Titus 3:3-7.)

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O precious Father, please forgive me of all that I have done wrong, and
cleanse me thoroughly by the sanctifying power of your Holy Spirit. In
addition, dear Father, I trust in the Spirit's power to help me triumph
over the temptation to sin. Thank you for not only cleansing me, but
also sustaining me by the power of your Spirit. In the name of Jesus
Christ I pray. Amen.
