Today's Verse : Isaiah 41:13

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 27, 2009

VERSE:
For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

-- Isaiah 41:13
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Isaiah+41:13

THOUGHT:
Life crashes in and we wish we could be children again and have
someone to take care of us and protect us. Into our confused and
chaotic world, God's promise comes to us once again. Like a loving
parent with a frightened child, God reaches out and takes hold of
our hands and comforts us with his precious words: "Don't be
afraid. I'm here with you. I will help." Even when he seems
distant, the echo of this thought can remind us that we are never
alone or forgotten. (cf. Heb. 13:5-6)

PRAYER:
Abba Father, whose presence and help are always near, please
help me have faith that you are here. I confess that at certain
points in my life, you have seemed distant and I have felt alone.
Please remind me through your Spirit of your nearness and your
care. In my moments of struggle and doubt, please make your
presence known. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: The World's Light

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
The World's Light
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, I Am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12 NIV

When Jesus said I Am the light, He was claiming to be God. This is what He was crucified for. I t is quite interesting to me, that though many claim He was only a good man, the ministry of Jesus has persisted for some 2000 years.

Light, as used here, is another name for Messiah. Jesus is the light of the world, because He is the Messiah. He is the Savior of the world. I can't explain how His popularity has continued. It is not a fad. Fads come and go. Jesus has remained popular. It is not cultural, because the gospel of Christ crosses all cultural lines. No, the gospel of Christ remains because Jesus is our Savior. Those who find Him find a peace that surpasses understanding, forgiveness the world can't and won't give, and a joy that outlasts all pain.

Jesus is the light of the world because He brings sinners like you and me into the presence of an Almighty God. Praise God for His Light of the world.

Love Path 911: Email Betrayal, by Joe Beam

Special Note:
Each week, Joe Beam is answering questions submitted by Heartlight.org
subscribers based on his counseling experience, academic research, and
heart for people as a minister. You can submit your questions to
ask@joebeam.com.

Question:

My husband had an email affair with an old girl friend; I found the
emails and am devastated! Though he ended it, I want to go through
the emails with him; he wrote that it was the real thing and that
he didn't know if he loved me. He gets mad and says I am always
going to throw it up in his face. Should he have to face those
emails and answer or should I just forgive him and love him and
work on marriage?

Paul wrote in Ephesians that we are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians
4:15), put away falsehood and always speak truthfully (Ephesians 4:25),
and say those things "helpful for building others up according to their
needs, that it may benefit those who listen" (Ephesians 4:29).

His actions devastated you and you need to understand what he was
thinking or feeling. It is important for him to answer your questions
because it will tear you down if you don't know. Your doubts, fears,
and anticipations will keep you miserable and afraid. You need to be
freed from the tyranny of the unknown and the only way to find that
freedom is to know the truth.

Don't expect him to be able to explain everything he wrote.

Your husband's anger may mean that he is embarrassed. Or he is afraid
that if you know the truth you will leave him. He may fear you telling
others. However, there are consequences to actions (Galatians 6:7-8)
and it is unfair for him to expect you to forget and move on so that he
doesn't have to face the pain or guilt of what he did. Furthermore,
genuine confession paves the way to healing (James 5:16).

If he does not work through this with you, you will have a difficult
time trusting him again and he may never deal with the impact of his
own actions. However, don't expect him to be able to explain everything
he wrote or why he wrote them. In emotional situations people often do
things they cannot explain. Rather than focusing on those emails, you
will do much better to deal with the larger question of why and then
figure out together how to build the marriage you both want and need.
If we can help, we'd love to, check out our information listed below.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have a question about love and relationships, send them to me at
ask@JoeBeam.com. I'll answer 1 or 2 questions each week, using my
counseling experience, academic research, and a deep respect for God's
Word.

And if your marriage is in trouble, we can help. Go to
http://www.JoeBeam.com. Our success rate, even if one partner comes
reluctantly, is three out of four marriages.

Morning & Evening -- Jonah 2:9 and Leviticus 13:13

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, February 26, 2009

MORNING:

"Salvation is of the Lord."
-- Jonah 2:9

Salvation is the work of God. It is he alone who quickens the soul
"dead in trespasses and sins," and it is he also who maintains the soul
in its spiritual life. He is both "Alpha and Omega." "Salvation is of
the Lord." If I am prayerful, God makes me prayerful; if I have graces,
they are God's gifts to me; if I hold on in a consistent life, it is
because he upholds me with his hand. I do nothing whatever towards my
own preservation, except what God himself first does in me. Whatever I
have, all my goodness is of the Lord alone. Wherein I sin, that is my
own; but wherein I act rightly, that is of God, wholly and completely.
If I have repulsed a spiritual enemy, the Lord's strength nerved my
arm. Do I live before men a consecrated life? It is not I, but Christ
who liveth in me. Am I sanctified? I did not cleanse myself: God's Holy
Spirit sanctifies me. Am I weaned from the world? I am weaned by God's
chastisements sanctified to my good. Do I grow in knowledge? The great
Instructor teaches me. All my jewels were fashioned by heavenly art. I
find in God all that I want; but I find in myself nothing but sin and
misery. "He only is my rock and my salvation." Do I feed on the Word?
That Word would be no food for me unless the Lord made it food for my
soul, and helped me to feed upon it. Do I live on the manna which comes
down from heaven? What is that manna but Jesus Christ himself
incarnate, whose body and whose blood I eat and drink? Am I continually
receiving fresh increase of strength? Where do I gather my might? My
help cometh from heaven's hills: without Jesus I can do nothing. As a
branch cannot bring forth fruit except it abide in the vine, no more
can I, except I abide in him. What Jonah learned in the great deep, let
me learn this morning in my closet: "Salvation is of the Lord."

EVENING:

"Behold, if the leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall
pronounce him clean that hath the plague."
-- Leviticus 13:13

Strange enough this regulation appears, yet there was wisdom in it, for
the throwing out of the disease proved that the constitution was sound.
This evening it may be well for us to see the typical teaching of so
singular a rule. We, too, are lepers, and may read the law of the leper
as applicable to ourselves. When a man sees himself to be altogether
lost and ruined, covered all over with the defilement of sin, and in no
part free from pollution; when he disclaims all righteousness of his
own, and pleads guilty before the Lord, then he is clean through the
blood of Jesus, and the grace of God. Hidden, unfelt, unconfessed
iniquity is the true leprosy; but when sin is seen and felt, it has
received its deathblow, and the Lord looks with eyes of mercy upon the
soul afflicted with it. Nothing is more deadly than self-righteousness,
or more hopeful than contrition. We must confess that we are "nothing
else but sin," for no confession short of this will be the whole truth;
and if the Holy Spirit be at work with us, convincing us of sin, there
will be no difficulty about making such an acknowledgment -it will
spring spontaneously from our lips. What comfort does the text afford
to truly awakened sinners: the very circumstance which so grievously
discouraged them is here turned into a sign and symptom of a hopeful
state! Stripping comes before clothing; digging out the foundation is
the first thing in building-and a thorough sense of sin is one of the
earliest works of grace in the heart. O thou poor leprous sinner,
utterly destitute of a sound spot, take heart from the text, and come
as thou art to Jesus-

"For let our debts be what they may, however great or small,
As soon as we have nought to pay, our Lord forgives us all.
'Tis perfect poverty alone that sets the soul at large:
While we can call one mite our own, we have no full discharge."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Inferior Misgivings About Jesus"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 26, 2009

INFERIOR MISGIVINGS ABOUT JESUS

Sir, Thou hast nothing to draw with.

John 4:11
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+4:11&sr=1

"I am impressed with the wonder of what God says, but He cannot
expect me really to live it out in the details of my life!" When it
comes to facing Jesus Christ on His own merits, our attitude is one
of pious superiority - Your ideals are high and they impress us, but
in touch with actual things, it cannot be done. Each of us thinks
about Jesus in this way in some particular. These misgivings about
Jesus start from the amused questions put to us when we talk of our
transactions with God - Where are you going to get your money from?
How are you going to be looked after? Or they start from ourselves
when we tell Jesus that our case is a bit too hard for Him. It is all
very well to say "Trust in the Lord," but a man must live, and Jesus
has nothing to draw with - nothing whereby to give us these things.
Beware of the pious fraud in you which says - I have no misgivings
about Jesus, only about myself. None of us ever had misgivings about
ourselves; we know exactly what we cannot do, but we do have
misgivings about Jesus. We are rather hurt at the idea that He can do
what we cannot.

My misgivings arise from the fact that I ransack my own person to
find out how He will he able to do it. My questions spring from the
depths of my own inferiority. If I detect these misgivings in myself,
let me bring them to the light and confess them - "Lord, I have had
misgivings about Thee, I have not believed in Thy wits apart from my
own; I have not believed in Thine almighty power apart from my finite
understanding of it."

Praying with Paul : "The Last Days"

\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE LAST DAYS

Romans 13:11-14
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+13:11-14

Dear Father, object of my desires,

Everything points to the fact that we live in the last days.
Knowing what hour it is, let me wake up from my sleep! For
salvation is nearer to me now than when I first believed. The night
is far gone. The day is at hand.

Help me cast off all the works of darkness and put on the armor of
light. Let me conduct myself as becomes one of your people, not in
reveling or drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not
in quarreling or jealousy.

Rather, let me put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no
provisions for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

WJD! -- Divorce! -- Matthew 5:31-32

Divorce!

"It was also said, 'Any person that divorces his wife must
give her a written notice of divorce.' But I tell you that
any person that divorces his wife is causing his wife to be
guilty of the sin of adultery. The only reason for a person
to divorce his wife is if his wife had sexual relations with
another man. And any person that marries that divorced woman
is guilty of the sin of adultery."

-- Matthew 5:31-32 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
The prophet Malachi said it forcefully, "God hates divorce!" Jesus'
words here are equally emphatic. Jesus' condemnation is specifically
directed to men because they were the only ones in Jewish culture in
Jesus' time who could divorce a marriage partner. A woman was left with
few options other than remarriage or poverty. While God hates divorce,
Jesus' ministry demonstrates God's love for those broken by it (cf.
John 4). In fact, God hates divorce because of the brokenness it
creates in the lives of those involved and the loss of character in one
or both parties that often causes divorce. Because of their love for
God, husbands and wives have as their goal two key things: (1) loving
each other and (2) learning faithfulness through their relationship
with each other. By pursuing a loving relationship and remaining
faithful sexually, they are guarding themselves against divorce and
honoring God by maintaining their covenant with him and with each
other. In an age where promiscuity and sexual indiscretion run rampant,
we must heed the call to sexual purity and loving commitment so that
divorce can be prevented and its devastation avoided.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and faithful God, please help me keep my heart loyal and true. I
want to be a person of character. Empower me by your Spirit to stay
free of sexual sin and to be faithful in the commitments I make. Holy
God, if I am married, I pray that you not only keep me from divorce,
but that you also lead me to a life of loving service with my marriage
partner. In addition, dear Father, please strengthen and bless those
that I know who are in marriage distress and ransom their marriage from
impending divorce. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
