Today's Verse : 1 John 3:1

March 1, 2008

VERSE:
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we
should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The
reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
-- 1 John 3:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+John+3:1

THOUGHT:
Some gifts are too precious for words and too wonderful to fully
appreciate. The greatest of these gifts is that we are God's
children! We have been adopted into the Father's family! Jesus
claims us as his younger siblings! Even though the world may not
acknowledge this, that condition doesn't make it any less true.
After all, the world didn't recognize its Creator when he became
flesh and lived among the people he had made. God's Word, however,
still proclaims the truth; we ARE the children of God!

PRAYER:
Thank you, dear Heavenly Father, for the incredible blessing of
being your child. I know that I haven't begun to understand all the
glorious things this gift means. However, dear Father, I look
forward to what I can learn now about what it means, and I joyously
anticipate the day when I can see you face to face and fully know
the meaning of this joy. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: There's Hope

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
There's Hope
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 NIV

A young man took his life recently. I'm told the family has no church affiliation, no relationship to God, and is almost certainly unsaved. His remains were to be cremated with no official service; no pastor scheduled to speak; no final visitation.

Some may not see this as sad, but I do. I think it speaks plainly of having no hope. I think it yells loudly the life of an individual with no where to really turn for help. No wonder suicide is a leading cause of death among young people. They don't know where to turn for help. There seems to be little consistency in the world; little to cling to; little to hope for; little in life that really is truth.

In a world where divorce is our solution to disagreements in marriage, and revenge is our response to anger, it is not surprising that we have the social problems of our day. One of the most requested ministries in my church is for counseling. People are looking for a place to put their hope.

Dear Christians friends, as precious children of God, "our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus and His righteousness". We can face tomorrow because He has already paved the way to Victory. There is power in the name of Jesus to calm the storms of our life and give us the peace which passes the natural world's understanding.

When circumstances of life seem to be caving in around you, remember the hope into which you were called. That hope is Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords. You and I don't have to fear this world. We have the Maker of Truth on our side! We have Jesus!

(If for some reason you don't know that peace from Christ, pray this prayer: Dear God, I know that you love me. I am a sinner and I cannot get to You on my own. I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and rose from the grave and now sits at Your right hand. I receive Jesus as my personal Lord; my Savior.)

If you prayed that prayer today from your heart, and you believed it for the first time, you have just become a Christian. You now have hope.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Opposite Day, by Jenny Runkel

From Scream Free Living, leading by taking responsibility for our
behavior as parents, first.

The funny thing about irony is that it has a sense of humor. I should
have known that the more I wrote about it, the harder it would come
back to bite me. Well, it recently came to pay me a little visit and it
wasn't very pretty. You see, I have not been very ScreamFree lately...

Transitioning to a new job wasn't as smooth as I'd imagined and writing
was oftentimes easier to avoid than it was to do. I was being asked to
do things that stretched me and for the first time in a long while, I
felt disorganized and scattered at work. I was losing things and gulp
.. missing deadlines. I would start the day feeling this intense need
to control something ... anything ... and I didn't quite know what to
do with myself.

So, instead of realizing that all of this was pretty common for
starting a brand new career, I decided to do what all mature
relationship experts do -- I panicked. Someone I know tells people to
focus on themselves when they feel anxious, but in my infinite wisdom,
I decided to do just the opposite. Instead of sitting with those
feelings and working towards the problems at hand, I projected my own
insecurities onto those closest to me.

I started to see things around the house that I hadn't noticed before.
A breakfast dish here, a dirty sock there. An unfinished book report
laying on the table; a less than stellar grade on a math assignment.
Slowly, but surely, I convinced myself that my kids had a problem with
responsibility. I obviously wasn't "on top of them" enough and with a
newfound sense of purpose, I started taking matters into my own hands.

Now, I must take a moment here and make sure that you recognize the
insanity of this kind of thinking. Sure, there is the occasional
sibling smack down or exhaustion-induced tantrum when it comes to my
kids, but overall, they are amazing. They have always been good
students and they are not any dirtier than your average child. They are
mostly very polite and they are almost always kind to others. But, I
was way past this kind of logical thinking at this point.

With my helicopter blades churning, I started searching their backpacks
for unfinished assignments. I hovered as they completed minor homework
tasks and I "made suggestions" as to how to make right answers even
better. I began resenting them for not offering to pitch in around the
house and I resolved to get them in shape by making chore charts and
watching over them carefully. At first, things seemed to be going well.
The house was a bit cleaner and I could check off a few more things on
my own to do list in the meantime. But slowly, like the air leaking out
of a tire, the joy started leaking out of my home.

Homework became a battlefield. Where once my daughter proudly offered
to show me her work, she was now hiding it from me. Where once my son
used to do his daily assignments without being asked, I had to remind
him more and more. And the more this happened, the more frustrated I
became. My natural inclination was to pull them in even closer and
increase my efforts, which (as I so often write) only made things
worse. My kids were ignoring me, acting grumpy and rude, and soon, they
started to dread having me around. I could hear it in their voices and
I could see it in their eyes. I felt like Momzilla terrorizing my own
home and leaving chaos in my wake.

After one particularly difficult evening, I found myself alone in the
kitchen, hating who I had become. I was focusing all of my frustration,
attention, and energy into my children. I was micromanaging their lives
and completely ignoring my own with disastrous results. No one wanted
to be near me ... not even me! I had become a bitter, walking, talking,
self-absorbed neurotic. And then, like a sign from above, I heard
something from the other room.

It was George Costanza and I swear he was speaking directly to me. Ok.
Ok. He was on TV and he was talking about himself, but he could have
just as easily been describing me. That alone is not a pleasant
realization to have, but then again, I wasn't in a very pleasant state
of mind. The episode in question was one I knew almost by heart, but
never dreamed I could learn something from it. George is so disgusted
with himself and his pathetic life that he decides to take drastic
action. He figures that every choice he's made up to this point in his
life has been the wrong one, so he determines to change his decision
making process. He decides to do the opposite of every thought that
comes into his head. His rationale: he can't possibly do any worse.

Not a bad lesson ...

He ends up meeting a gorgeous woman and instead of putting on airs like
usual, he says to her in his droll manner, "Hi. My name is George. I am
rapidly balding. I am unemployed. And I live with my parents." She
looks him up and down, then coyly responds, "Would you like to go out
with me?"

If even George could turn things around simply by doing the opposite of
what seemed natural to him, why couldn't I? So, I decided to play the
old game of opposite day. When confronted with a situation that made me
anxious, I would do the opposite of what I thought I should do. Scary
proposition, to be sure. What would happen if I let go, even just a
little bit? I didn't even want to think about the possibilities, but
frankly, like George, I couldn't do any worse.

The next day, in all interactions with my children, I pretended that it
was opposite day. In the morning, I wanted to nag them about hurrying
up. Instead, I gave them hugs and remembered how their hair smelled
like rain. To my surprise, they were ready five minutes early. After
school, I wanted to rip open their bookbags and manage their homework.
Instead, I made snacks and remembered just how good cookies and milk
can be. Shockingly enough, after clearing away the crumbs, they both
got out their homework and finished in record time.

What in the world happened? Basically, I got out of their way and I
forced myself to be with them rather than over them or under them. With
that one realization, everything changed. I was able to see that my
kids weren't the problem after all. Quite the opposite, in fact. They
were the ones often acting more maturely than me. And in that moment, I
remembered how much I really like these incredibly smart, funny and
capable small people who share my DNA. It saddened me to think of how
many days had gone by where I hadn't even seen them. How many times had
I considered them simply another part of my "to do" list? It finally
hit me that in all of my efforts spent trying to teach other parents
how to be ScreamFree, I had forgotten how to be so myself.

Like George's experiment, mine had some unexpected results. My kids
picked up after themselves. They offered to help in the kitchen. They
even went to bed on time! But the best thing about my opposite day was
not in the ways that it changed them; the best thing about opposite day
is that it changed me. It made me want to slow down when I am at home,
think before I speak, and pay attention to the things that really
matter. Not at all what I thought would happen by taking advice from my
short, balding, unemployed TV friend. In fact, looking back, it was the
complete opposite of what I had expected.

Not a bad lesson from a short, balding, unemployed man who lives with
his parents.

Morning & Evening -- Jeremiah 31:3 and 1 Corinthians 2:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 29, 2008

MORNING:

"With lovingkindness have I drawn thee."
-- Jeremiah 31:3

The thunders of the law and the terrors of judgment are all used to
bring us to Christ; but the final victory is effected by
lovingkindness. The prodigal set out to his father's house from a sense
of need; but his father saw him a great way off, and ran to meet him;
so that the last steps he took towards his father's house were with the
kiss still warm upon his cheek, and the welcome still musical in his
ears.

"Law and terrors do but harden
All the while they work alone;
But a sense of blood-bought pardon
Will dissolve a heart of stone."

The Master came one night to the door, and knocked with the iron hand
of the law; the door shook and trembled upon its hinges; but the man
piled every piece of furniture which he could find against the door,
for he said, "I will not admit the man." The Master turned away, but
by-and-bye he came back, and with his own soft hand, using most that
part where the nail had penetrated, he knocked again-oh, so softly and
tenderly. This time the door did not shake, but, strange to say, it
opened, and there upon his knees the once unwilling host was found
rejoicing to receive his guest. "Come in, come in; thou hast so knocked
that my bowels are moved for thee. I could not think of thy pierced
hand leaving its blood-mark on my door, and of thy going away
houseless, 'Thy head filled with dew, and thy locks with the drops of
the night.' I yield, I yield, thy love has won my heart." So in every
case: lovingkindness wins the day. What Moses with the tablets of stone
could never do, Christ does with his pierced hand. Such is the doctrine
of effectual calling. Do I understand it experimentally? Can I say, "He
drew me, and I followed on, glad to confess the voice divine?" If so,
may he continue to draw me, till at last I shall sit down at the
marriage supper of the Lamb.

EVENING:

"Now we have received ... the spirit which is of God; that we
might know the things that are freely given to us of God."
-- 1 Corinthians 2:12

Dear reader, have you received the spirit which is of God, wrought by
the Holy Ghost in your soul? The necessity of the work of the Holy
Spirit in the heart may be clearly seen from this fact, that all which
has been done by God the Father, and by God the Son, must be
ineffectual to us, unless the Spirit shall reveal these things to our
souls. What effect does the doctrine of election have upon any man
until the Spirit of God enters into him? Election is a dead letter in
my consciousness until the Spirit of God calls me out of darkness into
marvellous light. Then through my calling, I see my election, and
knowing myself to be called of God, I know myself to have been chosen
in the eternal purpose. A covenant was made with the Lord Jesus Christ,
by his Father; but what avails that covenant to us until the Holy
Spirit brings us its blessings, and opens our hearts to receive them?
There hang the blessings on the nail-Christ Jesus; but being short of
stature, we cannot reach them; the Spirit of God takes them down and
hands them to us, and thus they become actually ours. Covenant
blessings in themselves are like the manna in the skies, far out of
mortal reach, but the Spirit of God opens the windows of heaven and
scatters the living bread around the camp of the spiritual Israel.
Christ's finished work is like wine stored in the wine-vat; through
unbelief we can neither draw nor drink. The Holy Spirit dips our vessel
into this precious wine, and then we drink; but without the Spirit we
are as truly dead in sin as though the Father never had elected, and
though the Son had never bought us with his blood. The Holy Spirit is
absolutely necessary to our well-being. Let us walk lovingly towards
him and tremble at the thought of grieving him.

My Utmost For His Highest : "What Do You Want The Lord To Do For You?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 29, 2008

WHAT DO YOU WANT THE LORD TO DO FOR YOU?

Lord, that I may receive my sight."

Luke 18:41

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=lu+18:41&sr=1

What is the thing that not only disturbs you but makes you a
disturbance? It is always some thing you cannot deal with yourself.
"They rebuked him that he should hold his peace...but he cried so
much the more." Persist in the disturbance until you get face to face
with the Lord Himself; do not deify common sense. When Jesus asks us
what we want Him to do for us in regard to the incredible thing with
which we are faced, remember that He does not work in common - sense
ways, but in supernatural ways.

Watch how we limit the Lord by remembering what we have allowed Him
to do for us in the past: I always failed there, and I always shall;
consequently we do not ask for what we want. "It is ridiculous to ask
God to do this." If it is an impossibility, it is the thing we have
to ask. If it is not an impossible thing, it is not a real
disturbance. God will do the absolutely impossible.

This man received his sight. The most impossible thing to you is that
you should be so identified with the Lord that there is nothing of
the old life left. He will do it if you ask Him. But you have to come
to the place where you be lieve Him to be Almighty. Faith is not in
what Jesus says but in Himself; if we only look at what He says we
shall never believe. When once we see Jesus, He does the impossible
thing as naturally as breathing. Our agony comes through the wilful
stupidity of our own heart. We won't believe, we won't cut the shore
line, we prefer to worry on.

Praying with Paul : "Walking in Love"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

WALKING IN LOVE

Romans 14:13-16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+14:13-16

Dear Father, to whom all will bow,

Help me not pass judgment on others or despise them. Let me look
to myself in view of the fact that I will have to give an account
for my own self.

You have said, "As I live every knee shall bow to me, and every
tongue shall give praise to God." Let me praise you now before the
day of your judgment. Let my praise be willing and not forced.

Help me never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of
a brother or sister in Christ, and especially of some young person.
Don't let me injure anyone by exercising my rights. Let me rather
walk in love toward. Don't let my right to do something cause the
ruin of one for whom Christ died. Do not let what is good to me be
evil spoken of.

In the name of Jesus I ask for the love and wisdom to so live.
Amen.

WJD! -- John Mark the Evangelist -- Mark Acts 15:36-39

John Mark the Evangelist

-- Mark Acts 15:36-39 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
It's leap day! So we're taking one day off from the Gospel of Mark, to
talk about the writer, John Mark. The John Mark in today's Scripture is
better known as Mark. He has traditionally been viewed as the
evangelist who is responsible for the Gospel of Mark. Mark accompanied
Paul and Barnabas on what is often called the first missionary journey.
When things got tough, however, Mark had deserted the work. When
getting ready to go back and visit these recently established churches
and do additional mission work, Paul refused to take Mark with them.
The great story we learn behind this horrible split in the great
mission team of Paul and Barnabas is that God continued to work in the
ministries of Paul and Barnabas. Instead of one mission team, there
were now two. Barnabas helped reclaim Mark and Paul involved another,
bright and passionate young man in ministry and missions. Toward the
end of Paul's life, Paul also asked for Mark to be with him. So God
worked in their lives and brought harmony as well as extra mission
power out of what would otherwise have been a human disaster. The
Gospel of Mark is the great reminder that we all need a second chance,
and in Jesus, we get it!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you for taking our petty messes and bringing something
good out of them. Help me be like Barnabas and reclaim those who are
discouraged and defeated. Help me be like Paul and welcome back those
who have proven themselves after failure and even those who are trying
to recover from failure. Give me the proper sense of balance and the
proper role you have called me to fulfill in your plan for your people.
In Jesus' name. Amen.

VERSE:
"Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your
servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation ..."
-- Luke 2:29-30

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Luke+2:29-30

THOUGHT:
Old Simeon uttered these words when he saw the Christ child.
This is our goal as well. While we cannot physically see Jesus who
is our salvation and hold him in our arms as Simeon did, we can see
him through Scripture, worship, ministry, evangelism, and the work
of the Holy Spirit. Let's make it our aim to honor God as the only
true God and to following Jesus as our Lord.

PRAYER:
Righteous Father, please help me to know Jesus better, to be
formed more perfectly into his image, and to live with his
character. Please, dear God, I want to be like Christ in my
character and conduct. I want to be a genuine disciple and become
more and more like my great Teacher everyday. It is in his name,
Jesus Christ, that I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Ordained Adversity

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Ordained Adversity
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Saul told his son Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. 1 Samuel 19:1 NIV

David was minding his own business one day, tending sheep, when God called him to be a king. He didn't ask to be king, but God said he was the one. He turned out to be a really good king. Imagine that? God made a good pick! David had a heart modeled after God's, according to the Bible.

So, since God had chosen to bless David in such a way, why do we find Saul trying to kill David? In fact, for some time, David is chased by Saul. David hides out, all alone, which is the setting we find him in during the writings of many of the Psalms. David was God's choice for king and yet he was placed in such awesome advesity.

What does this tell us? I think what it says to me is that sometimes God's will for us will find us in the middle of trials in life. More importantly, I am learning that I cannot determine whether I am in God's will based on whether or not my life is peaceful . Just because I have trials, doesn't mean I am not in God's will for my life.

Think about Abraham who faced the trial of leaving his homeland; Moses who wandered in the wilderness forty years; Joseph who was sold into slavery; Nehemiah who had to fight off naysayers; Daniel who was thrown into a lion's den. All of these great servants of God faced persecution, heartache, and trials beyond most of our imaginations. Yet, all them, during the adversity, were right where God wanted them to be; in the center of His will.

Yes, we would all like for life to be peaceful, and we can have inner peace in the middle of the storms of life, but God has not promised us a life free of problems. In fact, we can perfectly within His will and still be facing adverstity. It is part of the process God uses to make us more like Jesus.

Trust Him today, regardless of your circumstances!

right?" "That's right," said Grandpa. "And the Children of Israel beat
up the Philistines, right?" "That's, right." "And the Children of
Israel built the Temple, right?" "Again you're right," said Grandpa
Russ.

Christopher continued, "And the Children of Israel fought the
Egyptians, and the Children of Israel fought the Romans, and the
Children of Israel were always doing something important, right?" "All
that is right, too," agreed Grandpa Russ. "So what's your question?" he
asked. "Well Grandpa, What were all the grown-ups doing all that time?"

Hopefully you can chuckle at the above story, or at least smile about
it, because we understand that "The Children of Israel" was a
description of the Israelite nation. But, this little story sometimes
illustrates the level of questions we hear from adults also.

I never cease to be amazed at the areas of question that some folks
argue about. I believe that some of the folks I have come into contact
with in the past 40 years or so really like to argue more than search
for answers with an open heart.

The apostle Paul gave this instruction to the young preacher Timothy:

Don't let people waste time in endless speculation over myths and
spiritual pedigrees. For these things only cause arguments; they
don't help people live a life of faith in God (1 Timothy 1:4 NLT).

You have the ability to choose!

I would suggest that our time would be much better spent asking
questions that really matter, such as, "Where do I want to end up after
this life is over?" and "How do I get there?" or even, "What does God
expect of my life?" If we concentrate on those questions, the rest of
the important things in life will fall into place.

You have the ability to choose: "endless speculation" over things for
which there are no answers, or questions that really matter. I would
recommend that we pay heed to the old adage when it says, "Think twice;
ask once." You may prefer the more modern admonishment that says, "Put
brain in gear before engaging mouth."

You may be surrounded by many doubts and questions about things in your
life or things in our world, but are they really important? Are you
more interested in arguing or in searching? In the book of Acts, we
meet a jailer in the city of Philippi. He asks Paul and Barnabas THE
MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION any of us can ask: And he [the jailer] brought
them [Paul and Barnabas] out [of the prison], and said, "Sirs, what
must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30).

How about you, have you asked that question? Check out the answer the
jailer received and how he responded (Acts 16:31-34). That may be the
answer you are looking for in life.

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 62:5 and 1 Kings 17:16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, February 28, 2008

MORNING:

"My expectation is from him."
-- Psalms 62:5

It is the believer's privilege to use this language. If he is looking
for aught from the world, it is a poor "expectation" indeed. But if he
looks to God for the supply of his wants, whether in temporal or
spiritual blessings, his "expectation" will not be a vain one.
Constantly he may draw from the bank of faith, and get his need
supplied out of the riches of God's lovingkindness. This I know, I had
rather have God for my banker than all the Rothschilds. My Lord never
fails to honour his promises; and when we bring them to his throne, he
never sends them back unanswered. Therefore I will wait only at his
door, for he ever opens it with the hand of munificent grace. At this
hour I will try him anew. But we have "expectations" beyond this life.
We shall die soon; and then our "expectation is from him." Do we not
expect that when we lie upon the bed of sickness he will send angels to
carry us to his bosom? We believe that when the pulse is faint, and the
heart heaves heavily, some angelic messenger shall stand and look with
loving eyes upon us, and whisper, "Sister spirit, come away!" As we
approach the heavenly gate, we expect to hear the welcome invitation,
"Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you
from the foundation of the world." We are expecting harps of gold and
crowns of glory; we are hoping soon to be amongst the multitude of
shining ones before the throne; we are looking forward and longing for
the time when we shall be like our glorious Lord-for "We shall see him
as he is." Then if these be thine "expectations," O my soul, live for
God; live with the desire and resolve to glorify him from whom cometh
all thy supplies, and of whose grace in thy election, redemption, and
calling, it is that thou hast any "expectation" of coming glory.

EVENING:

"The barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil
fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by
Elijah."
-- 1 Kings 17:16

See the faithfulness of divine love. You observe that this woman had
daily necessities. She had herself and her son to feed in a time of
famine; and now, in addition, the prophet Elijah was to be fed too. But
though the need was threefold, yet the supply of meal wasted not, for
she had a constant supply. Each day she made calls upon the barrel, but
yet each day it remained the same. You, dear reader, have daily
necessities, and because they come so frequently, you are apt to fear
that the barrel of meal will one day be empty, and the cruse of oil
will fail you. Rest assured that, according to the Word of God, this
shall not be the case. Each day, though it bring its trouble, shall
bring its help; and though you should live to outnumber the years of
Methuselah, and though your needs should be as many as the sands of the
seashore, yet shall God's grace and mercy last through all your
necessities, and you shall never know a real lack. For three long
years, in this widow's days, the heavens never saw a cloud, and the
stars never wept a holy tear of dew upon the wicked earth: famine, and
desolation, and death, made the land a howling wilderness, but this
woman never was hungry, but always joyful in abundance. So shall it be
with you. You shall see the sinner's hope perish, for he trusts his
native strength; you shall see the proud Pharisee's confidence totter,
for he builds his hope upon the sand; you shall see even your own
schemes blasted and withered, but you yourself shall find that your
place of defence shall be the munition of rocks: "Your bread shall be
given you, and your water shall be sure." Better have God for your
guardian, than the Bank of England for your possession. You might spend
the wealth of the Indies, but the infinite riches of God you can never
exhaust.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Do Ye Now Believe?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 28, 2008

DO YE NOW BELIEVE?

By this we believe ... Jesus answered, Do ye now
believe?

John 16:30-31

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+16:30-31&sr=1

Now we believe. Jesus says - Do you? The time is coming when you will
leave Me alone. Many a Christian worker has left Jesus Christ alone
and gone into work from a sense of duty, or from a sense of need
arising out of his own particular discernment. The reason for this is
the absence of the resurrection life of Jesus. The soul has got out
of intimate contact with God by leaning to its own religious
understanding. There is no sin in it, and no punishment attached to
it; but when the soul realizes how he has hindered his understanding
of Jesus Christ, and produced for himself perplexities and sorrows
and difficulties, it is with shame and contrition he has to come
back.

We need to rely on the resurrection life of Jesus much deeper down
than we do, to get into the habit of steadily referring everything
back to Him; instead of this we make our common - sense decisions and
ask God to bless them. He cannot, it is not in His domain, it is
severed from reality. If we do a thing from a sense of duty, we are
putting up a standard in competition with Jesus Christ. We become a
"superior person," and say - "Now in this matter I must do this and
that." We have put our sense of duty on the throne instead of the
resurrection life of Jesus. We are not told to walk in the light of
conscience or of a sense of duty, but to walk in the light as God is
in the light. When we do anything from a sense of duty, we can back
it up by argument; when we do anything in obedience to the Lord,
there is no argument possible; that is why a saint can be easily
ridiculed.

Praying with Paul : "Mutual Acceptance"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

MUTUAL ACCEPTANCE

Romans 14:1-16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+14:1-16

Dear Father, foundation of all our lives,

Make me compassionate and generous toward my brothers and sisters
in Christ. Let us welcome each other, and not dispute over
opinions. May I never pass judgment on a brother or sister, for you
have welcomed them. They are your servants. It is before you that
they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for you are able to
make them stand.

Let us be fully convinced in our own minds about honoring certain
days, or about eating certain foods. Whether we honor a day or eat
a food, or whether we abstain, may we do it (or not do it) in
honor of you.

Thank you that none of us lives to self, and none dies to self.
Whether we live or die, we are yours! Thank you that Christ died to
this end: that he might be Lord both of those who have died and of
us who live. We know from what Jesus said: that all your saints are
alive to you.

In the name of Jesus, instill consideration for each other into
all of us. Amen.

WJD! -- Outsiders and Insiders -- Mark 4:12-13

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

Outsiders and Insiders

"I do this so that: 'They will look and look, but never
really see; they will listen and listen, but never
understand. If they saw and understood, they might change and
be forgiven.'" Then Jesus said to the followers, "Do you
understand this story? If you don't, then how will you
understand any story?

-- Mark 4:12-13 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Certain messages are appropriate for those who are inside the faith,
but make no sense to those outside the faith. These messages are not
going to be understandable to those who do not share our faith and our
world view that arises from our faith. For instance: Christians see the
story of the Cross as a story of great power; non-Christians see it as
something gross, gruesome, awful, ghastly, violent, appalling, or
horrific. Jesus is preparing his specially selected followers for their
ministries. He is focusing on giving them messages they can understand,
but those outside their group will not. This is a great reminder that
those who do not know Jesus will not understand many things we believe,
teach, and say. We shouldn't get discouraged; this has always been
true. Rather than becoming frustrated, we need to give thanks that God
has made these things known to us and then find effective ways to
introduce the people in our world to the grace of Jesus so that one day
each of them can share in Jesus' truth.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, I know that many people in the world do not understand many of
the things I dearly believe. Please give me patience and courage to
face their questions, attacks, and rejections. Use me to break down the
barriers that are erected between them and me so that they can come to
know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
